hi!
in order to test something, i need to replace the build.prop in root/system with a modified one. but trying to delete this file with astro manager displays an error message, and just copying the modified build.prop over the old one doesn't work too (nothing happens).
so my question is: how do you replace such a file?
thanks in advance for your help
are you serious!?!?!?
If the build.prop is located on the Android folder IT HAS TO BE A SYSTEM FILE !!!
if you mod the system files you could break android or the system just won't let you do it, you will need R and W privileges to do that.
edit the system files from your PC or just boot up in to windows mobile.
use some common scene next time.
hope it helps!

Do you use a cyanogen build?
yes and there is already a cyanogen rom posted with the proper build.prop fixed, so you won't have to edit anything, just search for it.

mmmh actually cyanogen made things easy to replace a system file, just copy your file into sdcard/android/root/system and reboot.
thanks for your help / posts. but unfortunately they're not helpful.
yes, i am serious! and yes, of course it's a system file. i know as well that modification might brick android.
there are reasons for modifying this file. some people seem to be able to, e.g. for chaning screen point density or modify the data passthrough.
so, please tell me, how can i edit/modify a system file from pc or windows mobile when its within the data.img-file?
thanks for any tips / hints on this.
use root explorer

Thank you VERY much for your help - I finally got it to work by listening your instructions. It is simply different if you have HD2 and plus CM mod. That figures why it was going back all the time to 180 instead of changing it - because it runs from sd card and that's where it needs to be replaced as well ...

First of all, do not get too excited, you will still need a binary dictionary file (main.dict) to implement in the keyboard.
If you do not know how to get this, I cannot help you as I am pretty sure all the ones I know off are copyrighted.
If you on the other hand know how to find one, it is dead easy implementing the dictionary file in this keyboard.
I used the Gingerbread keyboard from LeeDroid where the & symbol has been fixed (with thanks to -snq).
Using 7-Zip or WinRAR, navigate to /system/app and open LatinIME.apk (still in 7-Zip or WinRAR)
Navigate to res/raw and replace the main.dict with your custom one.
Close up and flash the zip in recovery after making nandroid and toggling verification.
Remember that I am not responsible for any damage you may encounter flashing edited apks!
I have only tested this with Danish, but it should in theory work with any language.
If anyone know of any binary dictionaries that are free to use, you are welcome to post them in this thread.
If you want to contribute making one yourself, then follow the guidelines from google code:
http://code.google.com/p/softkeyboard/wiki/BinaryDictionaries
You are very welcome to post them in this thread afterwards.
Just a quick thought:
Might it be possible to use the word databae from the Hunspell project (http://hunspell.sourceforge.net/)? They are opensource. We would have to think how to transfer the data to google's format. I am very bad in scripting, but I will spend some thoughts on this.

Hi. I am also looking for a danish spell-check (for CM7 on Legend)
What is the purpose in opening the file you have uploaded and navigate to the LatinIME.apk file? When I open it, it wants to install it.
Another noob question, where to find "res/raw" directory?
Thanks in advance.
Hi all:
I was reading the response of skeevy420 in order to fix the PAPREFERENCES problem when you try to select TABLET UI workspace in Paranoid 2.14 for my Defy, but when i was trying this fix, i find another little problem, my properties.conf file is readable only and y can't change the owner by the chown command, so i can't change the permissions. I try this through Terminal Emulator following the intructions but doesn't work. Anybody can tell me how to change the owner & permissions of this file otherwise?
I appreciate a response, sorry for my bad english.
Regards.-
I found a solution for this. ES File Explorer in order to change the permissions of the file, after this, through sshdroid change the owner, select TABLET UI and restart phone. Done.
If anyone have a question, please feel free to ask.
Regards!
Hello i was wondering if anyone would be able to help me enable spell checker on the s5. (not autocorrect or predictive text on the keyboard).
I know other people have been able to do it on previous versions of the galaxy and also on the note, By editing Secsettings.apk & framework2.jar, such as in this following link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34856343
Now i am not sure if it would be as simple as this, but i am sure someone on here would be able to enable the spell checker on our s5. If this is all it involves i am able to compile and decompile these two things and edit them myself, but i am pretty sure these files have changed due to the new 4.4.2 touchwiz on the s5.
If it was possible to create a flashable zip file that would edit the certain files or apps needed, that would be helpful and lot easier for a lot of people out there. But i am not sure if that's possible.
I am sure im not the only out there that would like this feature on our new s5, so you would be helping a few of us out.
anyone that would be able to give me some insight or would be able to do this, it would be much appreciated. cheers.
[SOLVED]
With this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2543967&page=4 and this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2251719 I modified framework2.jar (in system/framework folder)
SecSettings.apk is in system/priv-app for S5.
Do not forget to set the correct permissions of files after copy in system memory.
Menu was enabled, but no RED UNDERLINE appear for errors (with google keyboard installed and all options checked).
The Mod is in this way useless!
It fully run only in ART runtime. (Why??)

Hello everyone,
This is my first post given that I just signed up to this great and helpful website.
I have got a Samsung Galaxy A3 [Android version 5.0.2].
I added new input languages from the list. I downloaded them and also removed them by selecting and deleting them.
But, I tried to delete the "first" language, the language the mobile phone came with, and a message came up saying Cannot delete preloaded languages.
What do I need to do in order to delete permanently pre-loaded input languages?
Should I root it? If so, could you share in this thread a link to root my mobile phone?
Or could you explain it to me in words? I DO know anyway I need to first backup my files and download some programs.
Help me out please.
Thank you in advance,
~Francis

I know maybe, Samsung Galaxy A3's haven't yet got deodex ROM.
But, in order to have it, I need first to download "recovery-TWRP" and Lollipop or Kitkat ....is that true?
I know nothing about it.
Help me please, thank you.
Simply put, you cannot access anything system related without root, so it's a must.
I personally just delete them through either TWRP or after the first boot, i use a File Explorer with root support to remove unwanted apps in "/preload/", "system/app" and "/system/priv-app/".
However, i highly recommend you to use Titanium Backup to freeze apps, that way you can avoid removing stuff you have no idea about.
I tried to download Titanium Backup but only the PRO version [I have to pay] allows you to freeze the apps.
Anyway, I installed ES File Explorer and managed to get into the folder you wrote
I found the folders you wrote
"system/app"
and
"/system/priv-app/"
and
"/preload/".
I also found the folder 'Fonts' with the ttf files but I think its got nothing do given that the folder is about the fonts, not the keyboard languages! Isn't it?!
Anyway, now where do I have to go in order to remove the pre-loaded languages?
Thank you

Glad you went for the delete, you may suffer from loss in the future by deleting things you didnt mean to, but you'll learn from it .
Many of the languages are on the system/app , and have something like FontnameKor, with Kor being Korean i.e., however, im not sure if that removes the keyboard layouts. For that, flash the S6 keyboard, looks better too.
There are loads of Debloating (this is what we are doing here) threads for other Lollipop Samsung phones, many of their tips work for our device too.
Yes, I have got a Samsung Galaxy A3.
I went for the delete but didn't yet delete anything since I do not know what to delete.
What are the files that I can delete in order to delete a keyboard language?
I'll look up for what you told me and I'll answer you, later.
Answer....
I went to the folder 'Fonts' as you said and found a lot of tiles as you said with the language for example Kor [=Korean].
Well, there are a lot of languages and also ROBOTO files which I don't know what they are.
Anyway, there are not the usual languages such as English, French, Spanish, Italian and such ....there are only Armenian, Georgian, Chinese, Korean etc.
I want to delete the Italian language given that my phone came with the Italian language pre-installed.
Another path I followed is
"system > tts"
I found two sub-folders "lang_SMT" and "lang_SVOXP"
In the first folder I found some files referring to Italian
"smt_it_IT_f00.am"
"smt_it_IT_f00.cfg"
"smt_it_IT_f00.dt"
"smt_it_IT_f00.qs"
"smt_it_IT.lng"
I guess the one I should delete is the file with the format .lng
I don't even know whether this is the right path or not but I believe I am right, isn't it?!
Anyway, I can't delete anything since a message comes up saying "Operation failed". I suppose it's because I didn't root my phone yet.
Anyway what do I have to delete in order to delete the keyboard input language?
Thank you.
Are your phones rooted already?

You'll need root for sure. Also, since you use ES File Explorer, you have to switch the Root option, and also click on it to enable Read/Write on /system/, or else it'll fail again with the same output.
PS, i have not deleted anything at that level, tbh never bothered to. Check priv-app as well for languages, just recalled to have seen a few there.
