Desire HD has GLONASS-support! - Desire HD General

Since last week the GLONASS-network has worldwide coverage.
This is good news, as we now have another positioning network next to the GPS-network.
But even better news:
Yesterday Qualcomm revealed that (amongst others) the Desire HD has built-in support for the GLONASS-network, according to this page of Qualcomm's site:
Today we’re announcing wider support for GPS and GLONASS. Any device with a Snapdragon ™ S2 or S3 processor is capable of accessing both satellite networks.

(For those not in the know, the DHD has an S2-processor).
When using GLONASS together with GPS one gets a more precise location, an accuracy of 2 meters instead of 10 meters.
Also one gets a faster fix on one's location and of course there's a higher reliability, with twice as many satellites to lock on to.
All-in-all good news

the processor might have support, but does the firmware/rom/whatever need updating to get the new information?

Probably.
I'm not sure HTC will release an update (but who knows), but the ROM-cooks could probably get some stuff done?

desire hd owner bumping for intrest

I do wonder what they mean with 'Today we’re announcing wider support'?
Does it mean they're releasing some kind of drivers?

Any news?
I've just read this article http://www.electronista.com/articles/11/12/16/chips.will.leverage.both.us.and.russian.satellites/ where Qualcomm confirms presence of Glonass in S2 chips. MSM8255 is a S2 chip. So is it in use or not?

Does Android itself support different location sources than GPS?

Android can even not know about glonass or GPS. Chip driver sends coordinates to OS API.
But I'd to know does the chip use both systems or just GPS?

High End Device
After reading the OP post i can say that i'm kind of touched by the news. If we can realy taste the GLONASS technology, that means that we realy have a High End device. This means that can pass another year untill something realy new (I refer to technology build in) will make the difference between outdated and actuality.
PS: I will stick with my DHD just in case that something new about it will get revealed.

can someone tell me what is GLONASS?? i really dont know :$

radio-based satellite navigation system operated for the Russian government by the Russian Space Forces. It both complements and provides an alternative to the United States' Global Positioning System (GPS), the Chinese Compass navigation system and the planned Galileo positioning system of the European Union.

This sounds awesome to me, now if i can truely find a better battery then i cant see me needing to upgrade my phone for a good while.

GLONASS is a Russian acronym for Globalnaya navigatsionnaya sputnikovaya sistema or Global Navigation Satellite System. The satellites are operated by the Russian Space Forces.
http://goo.gl/DjF1I

Samsung already released a Glonass enabler application for Windows Phone Mango phones.
http://www.mobiletechworld.com/2011...ication-for-its-windows-phone-mango-handsets/

Anyone got anymore info on this? The Note sounds awesome at gettin GPS lock using glonass.

This is really good news but how do I know if it uses these satellites? Having support for it doesn't say it is really going to use it.

Which programs can use both navigation systems?

Afaik all.
Calculations are done by the chipset and it will also decide if/when activate Glonass or not.
Problem here seems we first need an "activation" of the feature by HTC....I also asked them on Facebook with no answer
Sony did it. Samsung did it. Come on.....Htc.....just tell right people what to do to have it enabled.....

Is there any way to get it ported across from something else?

^^ GPS ( Global Positioning System ) is a satellite constellation maintained by the US DoD for military and commercial use.. ( military users ofc have more rapid locks and more precision ,around 2,3 meters )
GLONASS on the other hand is its RUSSIAN rival , gps being american was more 'in' commercially while glonass lagged behind .. only recently has the russian govt made this tech available to comm users
comparing the two, GPS has better precision overall ( but GLONASS is catching up )
other countries are also deploying their own systems , like china's COMPASS ( in progress ) , EU's GALILEO ...
i wont be surprised if in the near future one has options to lock onto GPS,glonass and compass !!!

back to topic,
hows it possible that one DHD fone can acquire fix frm both GPS and GLONASS ?

Latest News and picture of Shift ! No GPS and Phone for sure out the of Box !

Hi guys, there are more news on the HTC shift, it has been official presented on the 28th in Taiwan by HTC. This is the official retail package and it's 100% what you will get in retail store.
Here is a link for some picture: http://www.mobile01.com/topicdetail.php?f=224&t=508252&last=4825702
For those people who can't see the picture, see my attachment of how to show the picture.
My HTC contact was there and he has tested the device, i specific ask him to test on phone and gps function, he report back saying that there is 100% no phone and GPS inside the Shift.
I know a lot of people will say they seen photo of GPS or phone, but that me remind you this, this is the latest official retail version, all device before are prototype. Yes, i have also seen the picture on FCC website showing there is GPS inside, that's the reason I asked my friend to test it! And let me say this again, there will be no GPS or Phone out of the box.
Our hope will be for the developers here in XDA to crack the function to enable full windows mobile, phone, and GPS.
p.s. Another news i got from my friend, HTC is saying the SD slot will only support up to 2GB.
can you getem?
Hi Wu, how are you doing, just wondering like you got me my Dopod, can you get hold of a shift for me? Thanks Dude

Hi Faisal, i am fine thank you. I hope you are doing well too.
Yes i can get the Shift for you, it's currently on pre-order and the device will be available on the 4th of Feb. Price is a bit lower then anywhere else and you will get bonus with it such as GPS and extra battery....etc.
If you are interesting in getting one, please PM me and we can discuss more there !
Hmm.. i´m ordered a sample from our german distributor but now i´m thinking about to cancel the order. We thinking long time ago about a integration of the shift in our company network for our VIP customers. But without gps, without Mobile and without LAN (or can i install Windows over netboot over WLAN??) i should search better for a other solution. there is not really a innovation inside. maybe the better solution with same features is a Toshiba Portégé R400 Series laptop..
but we will see the next on cebit i hope. maybe a other manufactor. we support htc from scratch with their first devices. after over 7000 devices and the problems within it´s time to test a other manufacor i think. maybe asus, samsung
Pre-Order all gone
Please do not ask me any more for HTC Shift, all the 200 unit for pre-order is gone already, first shipment will be on the 4th of Feb, if there is any more stock available, i will let you all know asap.

weird comment .. I don't see any device being a half of what the Shift is ... and even without GPS, without Phone, without LAN and without full WM6 .. the shift is still the best device on the market for my needs.
WLAN will replace LAN over the time.. so I don't think it is a big mistake, but it could have been great
GPS "should" be in the SHIFT but not in WM6 (GPS in Vista).. but the choice is not perfect (who whant a GPS that is working only 2 hours..)
The Shift is not the perfect device, for everyone, but we have to see the real potential of the shift before crying for any lack of feature.
HTC has announced a "shift" like device with 5" .. maybe it will have GPS, Phone, etc.. we will see
weird - yes of course.. ;-)
i´m think it´s a new strategy of HTC to make devices without completly knows features.
maybe, LAN is only for Enterprise Customers like us with over 200tsd Users worldwide interesting, (automatic Software distribution) but Phone Functionality is interesting some more users. Is not really practicable with a 7" Device, but with BT Headset and Speak Control - why not. GPS is only a nice Addon for freaks like me, they travel around the world.
But overall: you´re need really a device like this? (i call that "the innovation factor" inside ;-)
But it´s really needed? Sometimes i think about Asus EEE PC, there a many Websites with modding this mini laptop, it´s crazy. when i have a look to this modding sites I see one:
they have much fun with modding her cheap Asus EEE Laptop.
But after 6 Years with HTC devices in all colors I ask me sometimes:
where is the fun - as i start with it..
;-)

Well well well .. yeah I really need a device like this. I hate laptop (it's almost like bringing my desktop tower ...) because it's too big for me (even 11" ones). The shift has the perfect size for being a good laptop to use everywhere (including when travelling, when being on the bed, ...).
A laptot is not silent at all... mine is making too much noise.. almost the same as my desktop ! And it's warm.. warm... too warm ! I can't keep it on my knees more than 10 minutes ... WAW ! Totally useless to have a laptop.
The shift is quite, cold (not warm I mean ) and I can put it in my pocket (yeah I can... really ... I can ! .. have I tried... not yet.. but I have look the size and it fits well in my pocket... yeah.. really !).
I have bought an HTC Touch to work without any computer with me ... and .. ouch.. impossible to work with the Touch ! No real application on Windows Mobile .... Mobile Office? NOOOO it's too horrible ! On the shift I can use Windows Vista to work .. mmh so nice !
And what about the size .. 40Go is enough to work everywhere I want .. i can plug a VGA cable to my TFT to have a real screen .. and I can do this in so many room (I'm a student, so believe me... I do see a lot of monitor that just want to put their VGA cable in something !).
The only thing that can be bad was the keyboard, but I have tried it.. and WAW it worked well ! Not as well as my own Logitech Media Keyboard with about 80 words per minute... but I can type about 60 words per minute... enough when I'm not @ home.
I do believe the shift is the only solution for me right now, and I'm waiting a little to see all the real features available on the "retail" shift.. but I have great hopes in it !
Supposedly the Shift has the Qualcomm MSM 7200 chipset in it which has voice and gps built in. I can not see them "removing" that from the chipset. It's just a matter of time before this device get's "unlocked" to it's fullest potential.
I still do not see the marketing strategy of HTC leaving these features "out"... You would think that every device you release you would want to sell the hell out of it no? Are they that cocky that they believe they will be around forever to keep selling up their products to us?
i.e. Model Shift II including GPS!!! More money!!!

hard to know... but it's sure that the strategy seems completely wrong .... maybe they want us to buy a Phone and a GPS ... but it's not the right choice.... many people will not buy a HTC device because of it...
It is an odd strategy but not the first time they've done this stuff. Still I think most people who are inclined to buy Windows Mobile devices usually research them. A WinMo device is alot more advanced than your cpl hundred dollar nokias, I think when people are spending over $500 on a phone they are pretty inclined to do some research.
With that said im pretty sure HTC know if they release a shift w/o GPS or phone enabled, good people here can hack it and enable (remember the P3600) and then its on the users onus if things mess up. Actually sounds like a good strategy when you think about it, they only have to meet target "X" in terms of standards for "X" features. If end users decide to try activating features "Y" then they do so at their own risk...

FM transmiter/reciver

It been reported thru several teardowns that the n1 has a fm transmiter/reciver inside. Is there anyway to to access this hardware (where would it be located /sys/device/ ect) would be nice to know if we can interface with this hardware.
nexusoneblog.com/blog/2010/1/6/nexus-one-dissected-reveals-80211n-wifi-and-fm-transmitter.htm
It would be awesome to actually have that funtionality. I've seen a few crappy flip phones with FM transmitters built in.
a google employee on this forum (swetland) said there is an fm transmitter/reciever, but google is not developing or working on an app for that yet, that's why they did not advertise it.
My nexus one is rooted and I have a console program just trying to figure out if this hardware would be listed in the /sys/devices/ area anywhere. Im new to android not sure of how the google api's work but would be intrested into trying to get a small app or script to run just to initalize the hardware and fool around with it. any ideas?
i know cliq users have a FM radio built in too, but they don't have an app to use it. see this here http://www.modmymoto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=526775

does that mean it can transmit fm signals to car radio so we can listen to music?!

there should not be anything on the phone that you can find that mentions the existence of an fm reciever/transmitter... the phone has one but there is no functionality of it because there is no driver or app support for it... from what i have gathered getting the thing to work is going to be quit a project because the community would have to create a driver for the device as well as an application that calls on that driver as well as utilizes the capabilities of the chip itself... i dont know what experience you have with creating a driver to work for a complex piece of hardware that you have no idea how it works, its more/less going to be like blindly threading a needle unless google/htc would be so kind as to give one of our lovely coders some groundwork...

potentially... if this thing gets coded to work, receiving signals will prolly be the easier thing to figure out first...
other HTC devices, such as the HTC Touch Pro2, have a built in FM receiver. HTC actually writes an app for this and I use it on my TP2, but I don't know if one exists for the N1. You can search xda-developers for the win-mo version for the TP2, but my point is, if they did it for winmo, they can do it for android!

lol clearly you did not read get my point... "they" are not making anything, else they would have marketed it from the get go... it is up to the android community more specifically the nexus one community to come up with a driver that makes the chip functional... the chip in the other devices may be different as well, aka different driver needed...
What about htc tattoo? It has a fm receiver and an app...
The nexus one uses the broadcom BCM4329 Chipset. I need to find something to work with for this chip to even understand the funconatly of the chip itself I will look thru broadcoms site later see if they have any kind of driver or any information at all on this chipset. Reading other posts on other phones that had a similar chipset people were able to get the reciver on the chip activated but were unable to get the sound routed to the phone. They were able to however to get the the radio to tune to certain frequanceys and I think get the RDS information from the chipset. If anyone finds any relevant information post it here
Nycro
This tree was just added to the android source on the 12th of Jan looks to be mostley for the WLAN/Bluetooth features of the chipset

Have a look at.

Looks like an fm radio app for android using a qualcomm chip.
Im talking with the devolper of the driver for the wifi portion of the chip. At this time he is as well intrested in getting the Radio part of the chipset working but does not know much about it himself. Hopefully something will arise out of this conversation with him and maybe we will get a nice start to getting this portion of the chip working!
Im new with programing for android so I probley will need some help in the end lol.. allthough im pretty adaptive with c++ and some java im not no expert (Bacholers in network secuirty)

Clearly, you didn't get my point. For the TP2, not only was the Radio app not marketed, it was also not made available by HTC, but is now available on this forum. Secondly, I didn't contest that Google is not going to develop a Radio app - I simply said that HTC HAS made one. Hopefully, that clears things up
I have been talking with the guy from broadcom tongiht i will quote some of what was said here. Im not sure if he wants to be know to the comunity or not.
He had included the link to a video I have seen on this fourm will link below.
"I'll let you know when I figure something out. What other HTC phone uses the 4329 chip with Android? I wasn't aware of one. The HTC HD2 WM6.5 phone uses 4329, but I don't know if FM is enabled on that either.
There is an Android FM radio app for the BCM4325 chip, I saw a YouTube video of it running on a BeagleBoard: ww.youtube.com/watch?v=v6wdTOHrwQw This is using an AzureWave module, which has the 4325 in it.
The FM RX portion on the 4329 should be the same or nearly the same. I believe the FM is conrolled by special commands in the BT HCI interface, so some Android framework/JNI work might have to be done to the BT stack."
Thanks to Mr H ^^
I will do more work on this tommorow and see how far I can get
Thanks for everyones intrest and help!
An FM APP to unlock the FM Radio functions of my Nexus is something that I am willing to pay for!!!!
Some of the senior developers here are aces so I will keep my fingers crossed.
I just want to express my interest in a FM radio for Nexus One.
I think people (including me) will be happy to pay for an app that enables the FM reciever on the phone.
Good luck to whoever is trying to get this to work!
As I am not a developer all I can do to help is surf the web to see what I can find.
I found this link tp://www.9to5mac.com/broadcom-BCM4329-iphone-802.11n-FM
That states the iPhone has the BCM4329 chip in it. Now I have not found an apple app nor do I know if this helps any of the aces out there.
So just take a look.

SGS2 as SatNav

I wonder if anyone can share their experience of using SGS2 as satnav with any of third-party software, which does not depends on mobile connection.
I've used it as a SatNav with Sygic and Navigon. Both works extremely well for me including fast lock time and also fast rerouting when I use other route instead.
So far, I say it is better than TomTom on the iPhone I use to have though it tends to use a little bit more battery than iPhone. With a charger, it will still drain the battery but at a very slow pace.
For the next few days CoPilot live new version is half price via the Android market .

Thanks a lot for the responses. Copilot offer looks interesting.
Is it ok to use a satnav app and listen to some music on teh phone simultaneously? What about answering calls while driving? Does it interrupt navigation?
Lets face it folks, android will never be up to the par of iphone until we get tomtom app. It really is that simple. TomTom is so much better than anything else available at the minute.
You can also use TeleNav for free on the SGS2 by following the instructions in this thread. It functions without cell towers which makes it better than Google Maps in certain situations. (Note: I didn't check international support)

Matter of opinion really mate , can i ask why you rate tomtom so far ahead of others?? i admit the ui is simple and easy to use but co-pilot for example is a great piece of software .
When i had an iphone4 i went for co-pilot and not tomtom , i just think tomtom is over-priced compared to others
Its good for sure but so are the others avalible . Its all personal preference really but i doubt i would buy tomtom for android

I just used it for a 900-mile trip from Georgia to Iowa, using CoPilot Live 8, and it worked very well. For the money, CPL is the best navigation solution, at least in North America where the maps are pretty current. Google Navigation is pretty good too, although it's dependent on having a data connection to download maps, which can be an issue if you're driving in less-populated areas.
I downloaded the new CoPilot Premium USA package (CPL9) last night & used it on a short local trip this morning; the new version works at least as well as the old version.
As far as listening to music or handling phone calls while navigating, I didn't get a chance to test that on this trip. On previous trips, I've done both while navigating -- however, that was with CoPilot 8 on a WinMo phone. I suspect the phone's OS has a lot to do with this capability, and I haven't used Android long enough to know if it's up to the task; I suspect it will be, especially once the OS takes multi-cores into account.
If tomtom don't want to program their app for android, given the popularity of the platform, then its their loss TBH.
Going to Cyprus in a month or so and was wondering about SatNav as I'm hiring a car while we're there...
I was going to buy a 'block' of international data roaming that you can buy when on hols for the times when needing Internet access...but are there any cheaper short-term alternatives I shoulkd be thinking of?
Co-Pilot or Google Maps....??
Edit: CoPilot nor GM not coming up with any guidance for Cyprus!! This suprises me with the amount of people that head over to these type of holiday destinations, they could really be missing out on some serious revenue.... :-(
Don't forget that Google Maps is going offline soon!
engadget.com/2011/06/08/google-maps-navigation-to-go-offline-this-summer-garmin-and-tom I CANNOT POST LINKS YET
Quote "Dutch tech site All About Phones claims that Google Maps Navigation will get a true offline mode later this summer. In December the Android app received an update that cached routes and the surrounding areas, but without a data connection you still couldn't enter a new destination. A source inside the Dutch telco industry said that Goog would removing the requirement for coverage -- an obvious next step for the nav tool, especially with Ovi Maps bringing its turn-by-turn prowess to WP7. The move is also bound to be another thorn in the side of standalone GPS makers like Garmin and TomTom. After all, it's tough to compete with free."

Yeh, it coudl put off some people from buying satnav apps or devices. However, I think it is more about functionality and paid apps could provide some more worth paying for.
Wanted to take up this CoPilot offer yesterday evening but was put off by poor reviews. People were complaining about the new version being not as good as the previous, problems with regestering and downloading maps. Still probably buy it over the weekend.
I have been using Sygic Aura for a while now, and the previous version since my Nokia 5800. The Aura version is a real eye-candy, super fast, 3D buildings, but the routing - at least in Brussels - can be a bit weird but it will get you there.
I installed Copilot Live Premium for Europe - the UI is not as nice as Sygic, but the routing seems more normal (for Brussels) - no better or worse than Google Navigation.
I Would like to see Garmin on my S2..
I Am using copilot on my S2 and it works very well....
TomTom - Dont go there!

Got it yesterday, but only because of price reduction (EU 29 £)
The good:
Registration ... no problem
Download 4 GB maps ... no problem
Basic navigation ... no problem
The bad:
Missing integration with Contact (invoke navigation from within Contact Apps) ... embarrassing!
Facebook/Twitter crap ... annoying
POI import impossible (bug) ... annoying Edit: should be corrected http://getsatisfaction.com/copilotlive/topics/can_no_longer_add_pois_with_v9
Streetname text too small ... annoying
Hi must say that I am hoping that TomTom will come to Android. I use Co-Pilot and/or Google Navigation at the moment, and find that sometimes junctions get confusing, because the app doesn't zoom in sufficiently.
When I used to use TomTom on my old Windows Mobile Xperia X1, the program would zoom right in on junctions, making it easier to see where I need to go.
A few times on Co-Pilot/Google Navigation, I have got in a pickle on a Roundabout, meaning I have to around it twice to get the correct exit.
Does anyone else have this problem, and is anyone aware of a SatNav app that is as good as TomTom in this regard?
Cheers
Bcfaigg
TomTom is coming for Android
TomTom's Corrinne Vigreux (MD) says a TomTom app for Android is coming soon.
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/We-Meet-TomToms-MD-Corinne-Vigreux-Before-Break-Free-Event-8910.php
HOWEVER she may be confusing it with Route66 which is coming for Android soon and is using TomTom maps (aka Tele-Atlas). As everyone knows - this is VERY far from the same thing. So lets hope she is not making such a crucial mistake.

Do not miss any steps follow close and pause video if needed
heres the link
A play store fix is provided which is helpful but installation of it is not properly stated in video and caused me to fail first time
corrections are stated below:
download es file manager, once downloaded remember to mount system as writable at bottom in settings of application
also download s3market files provided, i have never used other file provided for calender etc it has no use in mtk6575 versions of the device
store s3market on root of sdcard
copy files within one by one, not together to system location shown
install the com.android.vending-3.5.16.apk file provided in s3market.
fix permissions in properties of files shown
then reboot device
what i have corrected in the procedure will fix the stopped unexpectedly error 100% if done correctly in mtk6575 phones of this device
I'm curious, how do these phones compare to the real thing? I gave up on clone phones after receiving a very bad quality ciphone 09..
Visually Stunning, Functionally a failure...
Be Warned, the HDC Galaxy S3 especially from fastcardtech are not worth the money and mental anguish to get the thing rooted. They come with Gingerbread, and Locked, and full of Chinese Apps. Once you free of that, the Google Sync is limited, so you cannot get your mail, calender, etc synced. Then there is Colonel Zap which is mysteriously the only person in the world prone to be able to root these devices, but be warned again. Only unless you specifically know your Chipset in your phone, MT6577 or 6575, good luck with that, you should be wary of rooting per Col Zap, as in my case, there process bricked one of my two phones from FastCardTech. And don't get me going on FastCardTech, they are complete B.S., takes over a month to accomplish anything, then they send you the lesser model than you pay for. Doesn't matter all the FREE CRAP you will be offered with this phone, doesn't make up for the fact that is is just a great looking shell with poor electronics inside.
Look these phones are from CHINA, the specs offered online are fiction, and are burnt into the kernel of the phone,so it only appears that you are getting what it states online. you are only getting a phone capable of meager performance, NO 4g, 3g, but at lower speeds if your are lucky enough to fit the Mobile Frequency Spectrum the phone runs in, being their made in China, not a U.S. friendly phone in that aspect. Wi-fi is spotty, and the software is crap, bottom line you get what you pay for, and not many resources to get you through the hard times. Good Luck.....!! At least it looks like the real thing you can show off to your friends while they laugh at you.....
Specs do not match and support is very poor
I bought the "Ultimate pro" version from FastcardTech.com (as a new member i am not allowed to post the link) and it does not meet the specs given by them. The GPS took about 2 hours outside to determine my position. After a factory defaults reset i could not find the strength to do this again
The CPU is not the 6577, but the slower 6575. The camera quality is very poor. The wifi signal is very, very weak. (i have a very good and strong router) The sound quality of a phone call is poor. The 'gsm sound' disturbes the conversation all the time, as if you are to close to a speaker. When you complain to FCT, don't expect any customer support. They give to most strange answers and can give no specific support what so ever. After some time, they say i can return the phone, but it's allmost impossible to meet their requirements, so i am pretty sure that when the have it back, i will never hear from them again. (just read the customer feedback on any honest site)
Including tax, shipping and insurance, i paid about 250 euo's for this phone.
If i had known this all on time, i would not have bought it.
But on the other hand, the responsiveness and quality of the screen is good. Gaming goes smooth and after countless factory defaults, i have managed to turn off most Chinise apps, without losing the nice 'Samsung startscreen'.
All together is not such a bad phone after all, but its not what i counted on in the first place.
Now i am curious about if there will be any tweaks possible. Rooting, custom firmware etc...
I am willing to help if possible.
Kind regards,
Coupedevil

Anyway, thanks for sharing your experience. It's disappointing to read how unprofessional some of these shops are It's one thing when they mess up the specs on pre-release products but this shouldn't happen with a phone that has been available for so long. Looks to me like they simply sent the wrong phone to begin with. Their lack of knowledge of even FCE-level English makes it so much worse
I'm looking at chinastore-online to get the Jiayu G2+. The shop at least claims some customer-friendly terms, but so far I've yet to hear from anyone who made a purchase there.
So hang on you've bought an obvious Chinese knock off and your surprised to find its crap? If your interested I can do you a great price on some magic beans (cash or bank transfer only).

A clone in looks, but without the Samsung SOC. So chances of getting a ROM off here that'll run are less than zero, sorry.

I have this galaxy s3 mt6575 clone, same as in the pictures in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1921178
I also had troubles getting the gps to work and started to think it didnt work at all.
But lately I have managed to get some gps signal to work.
I did flash the cwm recovery and have now installed the Lewa rom for it.
google "LeWa For Samsung Galaxy S3 MTK6575" to find the rom if you want to try.
Not sure if it was that rom that made the gps work or not, because I also did install an app named GPS Booster, as well as the u-center gps test app, and the GPS Test app.
Now I get enaugh signal to get my position. But the antenna is weak I think, so I need to be outdoor and have clear weather and clear view to the sky to get it to work. I did not test it in the car yet, but I think it might be to weak to work reliably inside the car.
i just bought the MTK6577 (s3 mimic)
and i want to change his rom (its already rooted)
what rom will work at this device?

None of these roms will work nor will you find one that will here. XDA doesnt support clone knock off devices.

Same Products MT6575
I have the software to update another model, which is not mentioned, but with the same processor.
I have also to update the software, it would be possible to modify intalando software programs and extract and place in another of the same model, but modified?
So manufactures improve their imperfections.

GPS - Galileo will be available?

Note 7 could connect to Galileo satellites, but what about S7? Is possible (technically) to connect to the new EU satellites? May Samsung will give us sw update?
I want to know that too
It is certainly possible on the S7/S7E with Snapdragon/Qualcomm chipset version (US) (But perhaps only a after a firmware upgrade - I don't have one to test).
What I'd like to know is about the S7/S7E version with the Exynos chipset. Found nothing about it and am starting to think it won't be supported (which would be ironic as it is the model sold in the EU, there Galileo originated).
I have an Exynos and it does not seem able to see any Galileo satellite, although it hasn't had any update lately.
Note 7 has (or had...) Exynos 8890 chip and Galileo support. S7 edge has Exynos 8890 too so in theory Galileo should work in S7 edge but most likely requires sw update.
Hi everyone.
Galileo started offering Early Operational Capability (EOC) on 15 December 2016 and is expected to reach Full Operational Capability (FOC) in 2019

So while the S7 has the ability to connect, that doesnt mean you will be able use it straight away. I would expect your ability to use it to be very random over the next 3 years as they continue to scale up the system.

What would improve?
Firstly, i want to distinguish between different systems. Whilst we (the public) say GPS to refer to all the systems as a whole, GPS is really the American NAVSTAR GPS system. For this post, GPS will refer to the American system.
The first improvement will be precision. The resolution is alot better. GPS is 5m whereas Galileo is 1m (note: GPS can do 1m precision but this is restricted to the US military)
Second improvement is reliability. GPS has been running since 1974 and so the satellites are going to start failing. Whilst they are likely to be replaced, priority is always given to the US military and third party use can be cut at anytime (just ask the Indians in 1999!)
Lastly is the nature of the system. As mentioned, GPS is a US military system and therefore use could be denied (war for example). The Galileo system however is primarily designed for emergencies such as search and rescue and natural disasters. Whilst politics of the EU could disrupt access, its more likely Donald Trump will cut access of GPS unless you pay for it than the EU doing so!

Hi, news about Galileo and Galaxy S7/S7 edge (EU version-Exynos) with Android 7 ?
Can Galaxy S7 operate with Galileo?
If Note 7 is/was confirmed to support Galileo, then it would, in theory, be possible for Dev's to create a MOD to enable it on S7/S7 Edge with Exynos 8890; is it?
