Screen brightness trick.. - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Ok, I don't know how well known this is but I've just discovered it by accident and i'm sure there are other nubile note owners like me.
If you bring down the notification bar just a little so that just the first little bit appears, you can slide your finger along it to adjust screen brightness, or just bring it down with your finger on the amount of brightness you want.. i.e finger right to the left for dimmest or to the right for brightest...or anywhere inbetween!
I image this is well known amongst the android community but for me it's a revelation that I thought was worth sharing, as, and for, a first time android owner.

I didn't know that
thanx

To bad did not work for me.

It only works if DON'T HAVE AUTOBRIGHTNESS ON.

I didn't know that either! Works lik a charm, thanks!

Cool. Didn't know that.

Do like! Thanks op

Thanks bro! Discovering more useful tricks too

This feature has been on the original galaxy S as well. Make sure that auto brightness setting is disabled in the display settings otherwise the slide notification bar trick wont work.

You don't actually have to slide down at all, just touch and hold, then slide left or right. I discovered this from reading the fantastic Galaxy note review on AndroidNZ: http://www.androidnz.net/2011/12/samsung-galaxy-note-complete-review.html

Haha.. me too!! Also where I learnt about sliding left or right on a contact to choose to send SMS or call them

SWEET! Nice find!!
This also explains why on a few occasions my brightness was inexplicably lowered. I was doing this and wasn't even aware of it...ha!

Thank you.
I didn't know. Nice tip and very useful.

Great tip :-D

Theres a really nice thread in the sgs2 forums that I cant find at the moment. But this might help find some other little tips that carried over from the sgs2

It helps at times to read the manual. I

Yes, well the hand swipe thing was featured in the advertising videos so we all know about the obvious ones. And, what man reads the manual? surely that takes half the fun out of any gadget and leaves nothing more to discover! although my wife has pointed out that you could be a woman so that would explain the manual thing

(firmly with tongue in cheek)

anyone know if you can make the screen go less bright the minimum brightness is still a bit intense when your using in the dark, say in the morning or at night in bed?

A new way to control screen brightness??

One day I was sitting in my class just looking at my screen. I randomly was just dragging my finger across my phone and I notice my Brightness changed. It you hold your finger between the top of the screen and phone the screen brightness will change. Anybody else come across this?

That is old news.
Yes, I have, there is a small line right under the notifications bar that you can open and slide.
And it never hurts to put helpful tips in for new comers, it would be difficult to search for something you don't know!!!!!!!!!
And new tips beat old complaints!!!!!!!!!!
LOL... holy Smoly... I knew that messing with the notification bar messes with your brightness.. but I didn't know you could control it like THAT! IF you drag it to the LEft it dims, Drag to the Right it gets brighter.. nice find. more things to show off to my friends..
Its quite a cool f3eauture of touchwiz,

not necessarily in that order i do think the note addresses allot of issues with current smartphone. Then takes the best of a 5.3 " screen and adds some nice features plus they make it very pocketable given the extra screen estate and battery life gained from the note. Love it. I would have however asked for the screen to be amoled plus as its slightly sharper and the s pens button should be a textured kind and an additional button further up making it easier to find when needed. Just like a normal pen with soft rubber textured grip.
Any thoughts opinions or questions just ask. Also sorry if the lightings really that bad but it was 3 in the morning with energy saving dark bulbs since they certainly don't light much.
Cheers Kenny

Thanks for taking the trouble to produce such informative clips of the Note which highlight the many brilliant features. You show how the Note can become the one device to replace a phone and tablet which is what I am going to do.
Thanks guys appreciate the feedback. If there's anything else you want to see or know let me know

Thanks drgopoos for the pics those are fantastic. Always good when you want to see everything about this device.
One thing i was asked over at phandroid was if this will get scratched up like the shinny plastic on the s2 hopefully from the high res pics you will see there is no shinny plastic on this whixb is lovely also the metal plastic bezel on the side goes from front to back so the battery cover sits against it and it finishes just before the screen starts so the device feels quality
and the speaker has a little bump in the plastic that covers it so its not completely flat when on a table which is nice if you use speakerphone or listen to music
Ok this is the camera test since i was asked how the cam was on the note.
these are pics taken in complete darkness as was the 1080p vid just to show how good this thing is even in pitch black conditions
Il try get some outdoors ones at some point as well. The led is very bright on this phone and works brilliantly

Unfortunate Dark Side of Screen :(

I have used the Note for a few days, but it became obvious that the screen at the right side is a bit darker than the rest of the screen... (see attached picture) (its my own picture, no gradients in the original)
I went back to the store in Den Haag, Netherlands where I bought it, hoping to get an exchange, but no Now its in repair )
When the screen is at its brightest, it not really shows, but if its at half brightness its pretty obvious...
So, I am back to my iny tiny S2 again, fortunately I didn't sell it yet...

And just to prove it:
This is simply done in MSPaint. Ive taken a sample of colour from the left of the screen and the right of the screen and put them side by side to show even the hard of sight that the right side is definitely darker than the left.

I don't see anything.
We need a more standardized test though.
If you run the facebook applications, is the right side darker?
The blue banners, or the white background? Mine looks fine, and I keep my screen pretty dim to save battery.

Anything.
Good that yours is ok.
It is very possible. My S2 exhibits noticable brightness difference when brightness is set to too high and this difference is only detectable when viewing all white web pages. But for normal use, the lowest brightness settable is too high for me and hence I use app called "Screen Filter". I set it down to as much low as 20% during night or when bed lamp is on. The scariest part I saw one night is a faint unmistakable circle of around 1.5cm diameter only visible in white background while "screen filter" is dimming it further by 50% to 20%.
I tried to capture with my DSLR but couldn't get anything better than I've attached. To naked eye, this circle is distinctly visible. If you do not see circle in the attached image, please ignore coz I frankly couldn't capture better.
Hint: the circle is on the top left of the picture.

Left/Right statusbar and notification bar

Hello there,
I just got Nexus 4 and played around with different Roms... and my hand hurts from Nexus 4 size. I found ParanoidAndroid's tablet UI being convient, but it's still too inconvenient. Pie works alright... but having it appear and disappear is annoying (to me). So what I like to know if there is a method to have the status+notification bar on the left/right side? Seems more convenient that way for one hand use. Anyways, I just like to know if there's a MOD or customization.
Thanks for taking your time reading.

Really? It just seems so much easier to have the thumb access everything and have a firm grip on the phone instead of it resting on your pinky and have your thumb in the middle of the screen. Maybe because I have small hand and been used to HTC sensation :c

Ubuntu touch may have that feature since it launches from the left.
It did if memory serves.
Though , it's not stable enough to be used as a daily driver.
Nexus 4 is of average size. It's actually smaller than most phones. My 4.3" Optimus 3D was actually a little bit taller than my nexus 4.

review of the xiaomi mi 6 screen

I have been using the phone for 2 weeks now and just finish travel.. I have to say the screen is amazing. My background is in home theaters hobby so I know how an accurate screen looks like.
Xiaomi mi 6 screen is so good that I was watching Netflix throughout my plane journey and my Uber ride at midnight. The lighting 4000+ levels of adjustment is perfectly tuned and had great auto brightness throughout. It's a real joy to look at the screen. The feeling is similar to my nexus 5.
Having the full rgb matrix helps everything be sharp.
Colors so accurate yet vivid!
The back light is very even and uniform
The white point accuracy is near 6500k which is near perfect grey point (colors on standard mode)
Sunlight view is so convenient at 600nits +
Touch response.. Well not one plus 5 fast but similar to nexus 5 after some comparison
10/10 for the screen.. The best 1080p panel I've ever seen on a phone
Not only does it look so good... The feel is sooooo smooth and so fast, it's like gliding.
It's beautiful.
B4 this Mi6 I had a OPX wich had a awsome AMOLED screen. And when I bought this Phone I was afraid to get unhappy with the screen but no! It is very good Indeed! I still feel the differnce when things get darker, ofc.

I noticed that if you put your phone on a pillow or on the bed and then use touch screen test app you can notice that if you try putting more than 3 or 4 fingers it doesn't register them very well and it's hard for the phone to keep track of them but when you hold the phone in your hand everything works fine.

Thats fully normal. Modern touchscreens, are capacitive rather than resistive, so that means that you should be able to interact with it as long as you can bring a small current to the screen where you want to touch. So hold it with your hand and the circuit is closed, otherwise the touches will not be registered properly.
But it doesn't happen with other phones.
I also have the LG g3 and xiaomi redmi note 4 and they don't have this problem.

Loving the phone.
The battery is astonishing, the sound is excellent, the camera is good and the screen is super smooth!
What is NOT pretty is the micro scratches.
I have the Blue Ceramic and even though I've been Ultra careful, there are tiny scratches appearing on the back.
I've NEVER used cases and this phone feels so good in the hand BUT I'm Going to have to start using one here.... And I can't stand it.
