Aarrrgghhh!! - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I am ready to throw my HD2 in the bin !
Took the big step to try and flash Android and been running into one brick wall after another. The latest.....
These are the steps I've taken:
Updated Radio to 2.15.50.14
Flashed HSPL 2.08
Flashed Magldr 1.11
USB Flasher option in Magldr and flashed DAF
When I do a long hold on the reset, I see 'NAND Kernal open Failed' error. It then goes into the Magldr options where I'm trying to go into Services->BootSettings->AD SD Dir to run my Data2SD folder from root of the SD card and then go into CWM choosing Boot AD SD but here it freezes at GO GO GO !
Please help - I am losing all faith in doing this :-(

Go to the NRG android build forum and follow the steps he provides. It went really smooth for me. You might have to flash back to stock WINMO first.

What is NRG Android ?
Is there a link to the article you refer to ?

Thanks again in advance

Look in the hd2 android development forum for the NRG ROM thread. I'm not sure how to post the link from this software (I'm on my Dell Streak right now). The process is described in the third or fourth post.
You flash back to WINMO by simply flashing a released ROM from the hd2 windows development forum.

Thanks Steve I found the thread eventually and followed it. I get the NRG Energize boot screen but it doesn't go further - feels like its locked in a continual loop cos I have to take the battery out to reset.
I've tried re-flashing it through AD Recovery but still same prob.
Can you explain what this means:
'For the SDEXT version, you need a CWM layout of 5/200/5. If your phone doesn't boot, try a higher than 200 partition.'
What is SDEXT and is there a download link?
Your help appreciated.

'SDEXT' just refers to an EXT 2, 3 or 4 partition on your SD card on which you can store apps. You can partition your SD card from CWM for this, and of course you will also have to flash the correct system partition for the ROM in order for it to work

How long did it stay on the boot screen? Mine took many minutes to boot the first time (it is also somewhat slow to boot even after the ROM is installed).
EDIT: I'd say leave it for 20 minutes. If it doesn't complete, then there is something wrong. Also, start with a full battery.

WoooHooo It's working !!
I used the Toolkit and (think) did 5/200/5 layout, flashed it and ran the zip with the ROM. Left it for 20-odd minutes and it sprang into life.
Had a quick play and is far smoother than my old crappy WinMo 6.5 but my batteries dying so will have a proper play tomorrow.
Thanks a bunch

Download the Battery Calibration app from the Market and follow the instructions it provides - you need to recalibrate the battery after a flash.
Also, check the settings; I believe the standard settings are for performance rather than energy efficiency.
EDIT: That is for the NRG ROM; I don't know which one you flashed.

Well had a good play with my new NRG Android ROM and love it.
However, I noticed that if I swithch the WiFi off, switch Mobile Network on and try and browse the web it comes up with web page not found errors.
Is there a fix for this or is there some other setting I need to make ?

Dude r u new to android?
Well to get pocket data( mobile data service) u have to set name and apn in wireless settings. Then enable it. Then reboot. The name and apn are carrier specific. So call them to know it.

I did the following:
Installed HSPL 2.08
Installed MAGLDR
Use the DAF.exe with MAGLDR on the phone
Then I went to AD Recovery and wipe full data and Dalvik
Then I installed ROM via SD card.
I did the following:
Ran task29.exe
Installed Radio Leo 2.15.50.14
Installed MAGLDR
DAF.exe
Then I installed ROM via SD card in CWM.
Im sorry but it sounds right, what you did. all i can advice you to try ist start ALL over, first by rooting (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953)
and then just follow the instructions given on the coredroid download, they are very detailed and unless you miss a step by accident (which was what i did) it should work.
and dont forget to give the first boot some time, it may take up to 15 minutes (sometimes even longer) but dont worry its just the first one!
good luck, and if you try please post the results, hd2 has left me down woth a few rooms a couple of times but in the end it always worked, even if it took many reflashes!!

$20 to walk me through Android REinstall

I had someone install Android direct to the phone (NAND), and wipe out Windows altogether. I'm trying to reprogram because after working fine for 5 months, the signal goes in and (totally) out randomly.
Sooooo, I've got root, aMAGLDR V1.3, Kernel 2.6.32.15, and I'm running ROM Manager...but I don't know what the hell I'm doing, really. Oh, and I downloaded some ROMs to my microSD.
And there's a catch. My USB port is totally loose now, so we need to do this without plugging in.
Is it possible?
If I boot into aMAGLDR, and I choose
1. Boot WPH, I get: WPH not installed
2. Boot AD SD, I get: SD Kernal Open Failed
3. Boot AD NAND, starts my old crappy ROM
4, 5, and 6 are USB (non)options
7. AD Hardreset: Do you want to erase all data? No, I don't.
8. AD Recovery: Invalid boot image header
9 Tetris: Press Enter to start, and then it doesn't start, and then I get sad.
If someone walks me through this (here, pm, Skype, Google Talk, Facebook, phone, whatever) I'll Paypal ya $20. If a bunch of people post the right answer, I'll split it, but don't fight over it. This is meant to be a fun little challenge, and a way for me to learn a little.
So, the race is on. Or is it?
You got magdlr installe. Do you have the recovery installed too? that would be the next thing you would have to flash and not to need a cable. the rest is easy and dont need a cable but you do need your sdcard. Being that you havent stated whether your phone is a eu model or a us model I will take the chance and say its the us model, next question is do you plan to use a ext partition of the sdcard? If you are then you need tpartition the sdcard from the recovery partition (CWR) after you have then you can copy the rom of your choice to the sdcard on your computer, then insert the sdcard into the phone and then flash the rom. if you dont plan to use an ext card, then skip that step and just copy thre rom onto the sdcard, flash and reboot.
A loose usb means nothing as long as it work thats all that matters, plus if the usb is loose then you have a bigger problem, how do you plan to recharge the phone?
U have milion solutions on forum for ur problems but if u really need help pm me i will give u skype or gtalk and I will most likely solve that for you cause i played a lot with my HD2

I use an external charger to recharge the batteries.
Can't use rom manager with magldr, if you run it it will break the cwm instal, and I suspect you already did hence "8 ad recovery" not working.
Rom manager now works with magldr hd2. U can flash recovery. And in turn flash rom to nand.

It covers clk, recovery everything. No usb needed.
The only thing is once you boot into recovery go to mounts and format all that has a format option. After you format everything, power down remover sd card and transfer your rom onto it. Then power back on and boot into recovery again and flash rom, reboot and enjoy !

Not only does this appear to be a rather rude response (don't know if that's what you intended) but this is also a rather pointless thread. There are countless guides on how to install NAND Android (my favourite being this one) and if you had done any research you would have known beforehand that ROM Manager and MAGLDR don't work well together. I really don't know what showlyshah means when he says that ROM Manager now supports MAGLDR because as far as I know it isn't true and there would be loads of threads about it.
It's not a rude at all. I've done tons of research on these forums.
The problem lies in the fact that those of us who are not programmers don't have a base level of knowledge that is assumed in these forums. Couple that with all the acronyms that are new to us, and it's a puzzle to figure this stuff out.
Every time I program a new device I say, AHHHH! That was sooooo easy...once I knew the steps. Until then, it's impossible.
Have u do it or not ?
Here's where I'm at. I followed that guide. THANK YOU so much-I hadn't seen that one before.
I tried to install a ROM after I installed clk, and got stuck in a loop. At least I'm gettting a different result.
I've started over, and I've got CLK on the phone now. Now, Which ROM should I install?
Thanks for your help.
Updated update.
The rom I tried to install is HyperDroid-CM7-Licking-Lobster-v5.6.0-cLK-signed
When I started my phone, it just goes back and forth between a screen with an "H" on a twirling cube, and that splashing into the Android dude...and splashing back. Left it for 45 minutes.
Now, clk says it installs, but when I start, I'm back to the Android/H loop.
Like I said, I need someone to walk me through this.
Reinstalled. Same loop. Trying the Nexus Rom.
If I try to boot through HBoot to NAND I get:
Normal boot ...
ERROR: Invalid boot image heador
R u using the correct model(EU or tmobile)?

t mobile USA cut their own deal with HTC, to make a hd2 with double internal rom and a little more ram. (And in teh process gave their customers a device with an insta-kill switch, which they no doubt regretted when thousands were returned bricked in teh first few months of release)
if your hd2 has red+green end+send keys, and says 't mobile' beneath the earpiece, its a 'tmous' (T MObile US) which is slightly different to teh rest of teh worlds hd2's.
If you have white keys, you have a regular hd2.

[Q] Slow/laggy/freezing Dandiest rom

I apologize if there actually is a thread explaining what I am talking about. But I have searched all over. And I just can not figure it out.
I have the Dandiest ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881937
I am using v4.31.44.12
It's my first rom flash, everything went fine and all.
The problem is that everything goes much too slow. Booting isn't an issue. but Everything regarding apps and calls and such just goes really slow.
When I get called, I can pick up. but I can't hang up because the phone just freezes.
Every app I install (which always takes roughly 3-5 minutes per app, after download) I have to constantly wipe the screen to keep it awake, if the screen sleeps during install, the phone completely freezes and I have to pull out the battery.
I wonder what is causing this, and if anyone has/had this problem before on a different ROM?
I have ext4 on my SD, shared storage or whatever it is called.
I have read some stuff about speeding that up or something, but I don't understand it.
I'm thinking it has to do with that. I installed/done everything following tutorials, so I should've done everything right.

Have you dont the following ? its in his main post . it seems like what you are experiencing is common .
1.. DON'T expect it will work out of box.
2. DON'T expect it will be as light and fast as Gingerbread.
3. DON'T expect that some legacy problem will disappear
4. Reboot your phone at lease twice after flashing or installing, after 1st boot into setting screen, long press the right button to recall the boot menu, reboot. Can not use /Update_DL method to install app before 3rd reboot.
5. For this version, due to the base has been changed throughly, can not use previous data.img or ext4, remove existing data.img and set data_img=1 to let system generate one for you, or set format_ext4=1 to format your ext4 if you are using ext4
6. DON'T set any config for 1st installation except data_img=1(for data.img) or format_ext4=1(for ext4 user). if your have tmous phone, no need the config.txt.
7. For SD or magldr, if 1st installation failed, must delete the system.ext2 file under /Desire_DL to let system convert it again.
8. Use Windows notepad create a file named config.txt, save it under /Desire_DL, only need to put the necessary config inside it, say:
data_img=1

If you have cLK boot loader, you can.
Just wipe all via recovery.
Then boot to cLK by long pressing back button and power. You will find the option there.
BTW, this should have been posted in the General or Q&A section, not development.

Yes, why do you prefer MAGLDR if you run android?
It's not that I prefer it its just that's what's on the phone.... Don't I need a computer to change to clk? Or am I totally off track?
My situation is this I have my tmob HTC hd2 with magldr, i'm in the middle of nowhere with just my phone I'm not programming noob but, I haven't been flashing my hd2 more than once... Actually twice i tried a pacman 4.1.2 rom as it only needed 145mb sys part, I'm actually running it now.... But it's lagging quite a bit no disrespect intended.... Probably my installation at fault... So I read that the evohd2 4.0.4 rom was supposed to be quite fast... But it needs at least 200mb syspart...
So if you say I can use clk to repartition, how can I get it on my phone without a computer just give me a link if you know where I should start looking.... I've Google and searched.... But all leads to the hd2 toolkit which I sadly can't use
there u r mate
the attached file is clk with touch recovery included.
rename the file with leoimg.nbh then put it on root of yr sd card and flash it
you dont need a pc to make repartition yr nand u can use it with inbuilt repartition option with this great tool
credit goes to the kokotas and their team.
You mean flash it like flashing a new power up splash screen? Volume down plus power button?

Thx a bunch
sSo thought I'd just update...
I managed to wipe and clean all partitions and install the NexusHD2 ics rom and it's running like the wind only problem is that takes up to ten times to reboot to get it to load the touch recovery... So I got a little scared I'd bricked it.
. But it's ok now thanks a bunch
great u managed it in the middle of jungle right
actually clk is great tool. the only prob with clk is it doesnt support rmnet network it supports only ppp
hope soon devs gonna fix this
sorry i was away so late response
oh yes forgot to tell u clk recovery takes a while but let it be on very first boot its ok approx 10 mins(yeah i kno its too much)

I dont know how but i removed the app menu option from the screen from my ga;axy y. I have installed the nexus Me v5 Rom in it. Can you please tell, how to get it back???
I know that factory restore is an option but i want to first look for any other option rather than reseting my phone

I was also facing the same problem. You are not installing the kernel properly. Download kernel from http://www.mediafire.com/download/s32dnj9g9g44h31/Percy_G2_CyanogenMod2_2+.zip
Then download ROM from either xda developers or from http://goo.im/devs/YashRastogi/Galaxy Y Android Development/NexFit/NexusFit_v0.1_CM7_YOUNG.zip
Copy all the files to your SD card. And then follow the following video. Please leave a thanks & tell me if it works. [first time booting takes time]
