/osh directory - Atrix 4G General

Its 6.5GB in size FFS, can it be deleted?

the osh folder is the folder of webtop ^^

i do not own nor i plan to own a webtop so can it be deleted? And do i get anything with deletion of that folder? Its huge, 700+mb

The webtop can also be accessed via HDMI (hook up to a tv) with a little simple modification. Search for it on the forums. If you are sure you are never going to use it, yes you can delete it, I'm pretty sure it will not effect any other part of the system.

As far as I know it can't be deleted, but in any case if possible it will not increase your storage anyways. Different partition altogether.

Hm, how does work this HDMI thing? just hook it up in TV and run WebTop app from phone?

[Q] xoom sync to PC

I want to drag drop files, better yet, use SyncToy to keep the files on my PC current with files on the xoom. Since the xoom comes up as a "Portable Device" when plugged in via USB rather than a "Removable Disk", I am unable to use SyncToy. When I try and drag-drop files, it tells me the file may not work and asks me if I want to continue. I can select yes, but some files will not drag over.
Is there a way to make the xoom a "usb disk" like my droid x when using the USB between the it and my PC? My xoom is rooted, and is there any other options?
Thanks in advance!
Anybody?
This is annoying and a deal breaker for me on the Xoom, like the tablet but thinking about returning and going back to using Gtablet...atleast it could read my USB thumb.
No, honeycomb uses a different protocol so it doesn't need to unmount the sdcard partition everytime you transfer files. For music and video you can use windows media player or any number of programs to sync, for regular files you need to drag and drop I'm afraid.

Thanks for the reply!
That’s what I was afraid of. It stinks...I really like the tablet, but it’s not going to do what I need it to do.
I read that it would read a USB thumb drive if rooted (with the an extension cable) is this correct? If it would do that...I would be in good shape.

Yes, there is an older thread in the developers section about that.

Wifi Explorer is a good way to access and transfer files to and fro.

I went and looked in the developers section and believe I found the thread, seem involved and may be out of my league to attempt.

Thanks...I will check out Wifi Explorer and see if it will get the job done.
Can I ask, will this be the same for all honeycomb devices or just Xoom.....not being able to Sync is a HUGE deal breaker for me.

[Q] Rooting with Gingerbreak

I've read that rooting with Gingerbreak works with the latest update, but also might erase the internal storage. Exactly what part of the internal storage might be erased? EVERYTHING, or just installed apps, ringtones, music, etc...?
Anything on internal storage, if u click on app files and go to internal storage anything there, so if u don't put apps on sd ur fine but some of its files it saves will be gone

So... basically my best bet would be to make a copy of everything i can onto my computer before attempting the root?
Yes
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
And..... another question. Is a microSD card actually required for it, or no?
I never remove my sd so I am not sure
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
Yes an external SD card is required. You will be prompted to have one when you first install gingerbreak. I had to go out and buy one.
just copy su file in /osh/bin with some name. your root will be preserved.
Not gonna lie sam, what you said means absolutly nothing to me. Care to elaborate a little more for the special needs section of the class?

I come from the iphone world, we don't do command line anything. All the adb and stuff literally goes right over my head. Sorry brother.....

I would start getting familiar with ADB. If you know Linux/UNIX at all, you will feel right at home.

how to copy to the SDCARD

I have looked all over the place but i dont where this is. How do I get my PC to see the SDCARD from 'explorer'
I can see the built in card, but the computer can't see it. It shows it's mounted on the unit correctly and i can write to it, but the computer can't see it, which makes a bit difficult to copy stuff directly to it.
Hopefully this will be an easy question as so far in my 1 day of owning the iconia, im very impressed (had a xoom and returned it).
Unfortunately, as of now there is no way to see the sdcard on the PC... maybe someday they will provide an update to fix that. For now, you need to use a file manager or put the actually card into the PC.
they also need to making copying between internal and external sdcards easier. i know how to navigate to each one, but it would be nice to make it a little more convenient/faster.
ok, i hope this gets enabled soon. This tablet has potential..

Great, how are you able to copy files to the external micro SD wirelessly?
Thanks.
Please forgive me if this sounds dumb or not possible, but has anyone tried moving the external SD external folder to the main part of the tab? I guess that wouldbjust be the / and not the /mnt. I didn't want to try it cause I thought it might mess up everything, but astro will allow you to select the folder than edit and you can select move. I didn't do the move part. Again, forgive me if this isn't possible, I'm just a noob brainstorming.

Transferring files between micro SD/ otg cable and internal storage

I just picked up a xoom a couple days ago and am waiting on one of the OTG cables that were linked in the accessories page. I'm wondering how one goes about transferring files from a camera to internal storage? I noticed there isn't a built in file manager so maybe using something like ES file explorer? Being that I haven't received the cable yet, I can't just try it out.
And I did search, but the XDA app sucks. Search xoom and you get everything else...
Any help would be appreciated.

I use the HD File Manager app which works great. Have to admit I haven't tested importing pics from a camera yet.
Use Drive Mount to....well mount your camera so it's viewable in the file manager.

Please correct me if I've missed something, but I believe you have to be rooted with a custom kernel/rom that supports usb host mode to do what you want to do. If you do want to root, here's a guide you could use: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1249798
You may have to hunt down the most up to date kernels/roms for the last step, but that's easy.

what windows program can i use to browse phone files?

I need to extract some files from the phone itself (data for certain apps) but my screen is completely busted and I can only turn the phone on and connect via USB. Any windows program I can use to extract information ? My phone was/is rooted

Try to use hdmi on big TV with mouse. And install root explorer.
Then you will be able to see all things which you can't see in your broken screen.
Try.
