how to copy to the SDCARD - Acer Iconia A500

I have looked all over the place but i dont where this is. How do I get my PC to see the SDCARD from 'explorer'
I can see the built in card, but the computer can't see it. It shows it's mounted on the unit correctly and i can write to it, but the computer can't see it, which makes a bit difficult to copy stuff directly to it.
Hopefully this will be an easy question as so far in my 1 day of owning the iconia, im very impressed (had a xoom and returned it).

Unfortunately, as of now there is no way to see the sdcard on the PC... maybe someday they will provide an update to fix that. For now, you need to use a file manager or put the actually card into the PC.

they also need to making copying between internal and external sdcards easier. i know how to navigate to each one, but it would be nice to make it a little more convenient/faster.

ok, i hope this gets enabled soon. This tablet has potential..

Great, how are you able to copy files to the external micro SD wirelessly?
Thanks.

Please forgive me if this sounds dumb or not possible, but has anyone tried moving the external SD external folder to the main part of the tab? I guess that wouldbjust be the / and not the /mnt. I didn't want to try it cause I thought it might mess up everything, but astro will allow you to select the folder than edit and you can select move. I didn't do the move part. Again, forgive me if this isn't possible, I'm just a noob brainstorming.

[Q] xoom sync to PC

I want to drag drop files, better yet, use SyncToy to keep the files on my PC current with files on the xoom. Since the xoom comes up as a "Portable Device" when plugged in via USB rather than a "Removable Disk", I am unable to use SyncToy. When I try and drag-drop files, it tells me the file may not work and asks me if I want to continue. I can select yes, but some files will not drag over.
Is there a way to make the xoom a "usb disk" like my droid x when using the USB between the it and my PC? My xoom is rooted, and is there any other options?
Thanks in advance!
Anybody?
This is annoying and a deal breaker for me on the Xoom, like the tablet but thinking about returning and going back to using Gtablet...atleast it could read my USB thumb.
No, honeycomb uses a different protocol so it doesn't need to unmount the sdcard partition everytime you transfer files. For music and video you can use windows media player or any number of programs to sync, for regular files you need to drag and drop I'm afraid.

Thanks for the reply!
That’s what I was afraid of. It stinks...I really like the tablet, but it’s not going to do what I need it to do.
I read that it would read a USB thumb drive if rooted (with the an extension cable) is this correct? If it would do that...I would be in good shape.

Thanks...I will check out Wifi Explorer and see if it will get the job done.
Can I ask, will this be the same for all honeycomb devices or just Xoom.....not being able to Sync is a HUGE deal breaker for me.

Better than nothing. It's the only way for me to send files back and forth between my phone and tablet.
Broadcast an ad hoc network and transfer over LAN.
Why can't we browse the phone? I really need that. Phone is 2.3.5 and tab is 3.2 Any help would be great
it all depends on the rom you are using. Taboonay 2.2 recognizes my phone as a hdd just fine.
Posted from my a500 oc @ 3ghz ddr3 speed 17% boost. Taboonay 2.2 Honeyvillan 2.4+ custom with ntegra fixes. 17890 cf-bench, 9000 antutu. Custom named n-Game OS v 1.2.3b.
just remove the micro sd from your phone and stick it in the acer and copy the movie to your tabs internal memory.

Far too easy!
Couldn't you also use file manager to navigate to USB/phone and copy-paste the video? I do it with things I've downloaded to my a500 going to my phone.
i posted this question in the General board and am looking for that answer. Since I can see my 16GB memory stick and a 500GB hard drive, I know that there is something different with my phone (My Touch Slide 4G) keeping it from being seen on the tab as USB STORAGE. The "folder" is there in both Astro File Manager and Root Explorer but I have no access. From what I have gathered on these forums, the Acer needs to be rooted to have access to the phone.
I just got my Acer last night and let it upgrade twice up to 3.2 and that is not rootable at this time.
I was really hoping that I could be able to off load some pictures from the phone to the 32GB tablet with a 32GB card in it when I go on vacation next month.
I am using tab 2.2 with rich 3.7 kernel. Maybe i am looking in the wrong place. Can some tell me the proper folder map. I am starting to think my usb port is shot.

Question

Hello!
I really need an advice. How can I move some apps on Motorola Xoom to SD card? I've rooted the device but anyway, can't find that option in the Settings.
Please, can somebody help me?

To be honest I have never had a reason to try. My xoom has plenty of internal memory space for apps. I only put data and backup on the SD card. I just know that there are several similar apps that claim to be able to move apps to SD.

Transferring files between micro SD/ otg cable and internal storage

I just picked up a xoom a couple days ago and am waiting on one of the OTG cables that were linked in the accessories page. I'm wondering how one goes about transferring files from a camera to internal storage? I noticed there isn't a built in file manager so maybe using something like ES file explorer? Being that I haven't received the cable yet, I can't just try it out.
And I did search, but the XDA app sucks. Search xoom and you get everything else...
Any help would be appreciated.

I use the HD File Manager app which works great. Have to admit I haven't tested importing pics from a camera yet.
Use Drive Mount to....well mount your camera so it's viewable in the file manager.

Please correct me if I've missed something, but I believe you have to be rooted with a custom kernel/rom that supports usb host mode to do what you want to do. If you do want to root, here's a guide you could use: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1249798
You may have to hunt down the most up to date kernels/roms for the last step, but that's easy.

For now (till we get root) use the "My Files" built in app if you need to write to the SD card. It's about the only app that seems to work consistently.

have you tried DOING anything with your 128 card? some of the stock apps will play nice, but even deleting a picture will give you a "sorry KitKrap doesn't allow sd card access". when I finish a video and go to delete it "sorry KitKrap doesn't allow it", when I use Google Drive and move a doc over to another folder or file "sorry KitKrap; nope!".. I've always been extremely well organized, and I've put a lot of time into organizing my SD card with any files or folders I'll need or use for work, and KitKrap won't allow any of it.. it's actually the exact same thing as when the "LOCK" switch is switched when you plug a standard SD card into a computer, except you can never turn it off.

Actually i discovered that the stock photo browser app only hides images, doesn't delete them. It may just be me, but after taking a string of shots of my daughter and trying to delete all but one, the gallery app said they were deleted, but when i plugged my phone into my computer they were all on the sdcard. Curious if others have the same issue?
Gonna be fixed in Lollipop. Long live sdcards!

Mostly I have all my pictures saved to it. I also transfer movies and tv shows to it on a daily basis. (Download a tv show to my laptop and transfer it to sd card via usb) On average, I have about 5GBs of free space left on my card.
Only ran into an issue once. I tried to delete a folder (season 5 of the show"24") and it claims that the card was "Write Protected" So I went into the folder and deleted the episodes . Folder still remains but its empty. Other than that its been working fine.
BTW I'm using the SanDisk Ultra 128 GB micro SD

I noticed the stock apps dont refresh and also keep a massive cache. I moved a pic folder and it remained in the stock pic app as cache, including full sized images. when I moved my music folder it did the exact same thing.. there's no refresh option. I cleared data and cache from the app, but it must be using some other means to cache, because nothing is actually better afterwards.

Assuming Android team leaves the option intact for the public release. Notice still no sd slot on the Nexus devices in spite of card writes "apparently" being part of the framework now Never doubt Android's hatred for sd cards. Were it not for Apple buyers scarfing up almost all the flash supply allocations for the iPhone launch, the G1 would have had 2GB of flash and no sd slot.
We can truly thank Apple for why Android devices have sd slots in the first place. :victory:

The issue is non stock apps can't write to the card. Of course you will have no issues if use no apps that need to.

You don't understand the issue. Kitkat took away the app's ability to write/delete any where on the SD card, it only allows full access to the app's own folder on the SD card. I.E. sandboxing it. Apps are still able to read the whole SD card though.
