Rooting after Verizon's new update - Fascinate General

has anyone been able to root their phones after the new update just pushed by verizon..When they pushed it, it bricked my phone so I used the "guide" to put it back to ed05... then allowed it to update, and then used the "Guide" to root again it it bricked it again.... so going back to ed05, let it update again, but now want to root again but the question is how????
Thanks guys and gals...

odin eh03 gb then root it. no need for ed05 or ota update...follow section 4 then section 5 of my guide.

is there anything good about the update??? what was new with it??? minus messing up rooting??

Stock eh03 gingerbread is alot faster than stock ed05 Froyo imo...cant comment on anything else because I have not ran stock eh03 longer than 20min, that was just to see If I could flash cm7 from it.

ok thank you

I used odin to root my phone after verizons update.

Just Odin the stock EH03 package and then flash SuperClean v3.05 in cwm and you'll have all the rooted, deodexed, debinged and debloated Gingerbread glory that you can stand! It has caused me to fall in love with my Fascinate all over again!

Can someone please tell me where to download the ROM's other than Multiupload.
Download time there for me says it is over 3 hours.
Looks like I got the OTA during the night and my Fascinate is stuck in recovery now.
Since I am hosed anyway I want to finally make the jump and start flashing some ROM's.
If I can ever get a download link that works
Thanks,

Look in the development section. Here is a link to Superclean to get you started.
Also multi upload is just a list of links where to download.

I did the EH03 flash in ODIN and the phone works again but now it wont connect to usb to use odin again to root. I have tried numerous factory cables and pcs but nothing works. surely someone else has had this problem? is there another way to root it?

[Q] An update.zip to go from DK28 to DI18?

(sorry if this has been covered in other threads, I searched and couldn't find it)
I found it on androidforums listed as a modified update.zip to bring DK28 phones back to DI18, but I'm not sure what it actually does. It's only 5mb, not ~100mb like the DK28 update.zip
Does anyone have an experience with it?

The only DI18 update.zip file is for going from DI07 -> DI18 (hence why it is only 5mb)

I believe the first link on there, you can attempt to try renaming it update.zip. Im not sure if it works without clockwork tho.. Give it a shot the worst thing that can happen is it will say aborted and wont mess up anything.
I'll give it a shot. Does it completely wipe the phone like Odin, or just change the firmware?

I think it just changes the firmware, i dont think it wipes anything, ive been flashing around roms on 2.1 and flash back to stock a lot and i never lose my data even when i wipe it..
Alternatively, is there a way to get Clockworkmod Recovery onto my DK28 phone?

besides the one click root, with clockwork, i dont think so, besides the long adb commands, which i dont know where that post is at but thats a lot of work.... But if you put clockwork on you can take it off with a simple flash of the samsung recovery zip also in the link above.
Thanks for the info.
Why is it so much more complicated to roll back than it is to go forward to a new version?

Well, not really complicated, just a few things you have flash to remove all the rooted stuff, if you use odin its still a lot of steps and more risky of bricking, i constantly see, new threads of people using odin by not following all the instructions and bricking there devices.
That's why I'm really hoping I can avoid having to use Odin to go to DI18 to get the official OTA update next week.

Dude, just look for the stock DI18 rom, rename it to update.zip, boot into recovery and flash it. That's all. I've done this several times before (although i'm now on a solid 2.2 Froyo rom).
It's a full rom, not a 5MB whatever..
It's that easy, and I don't clockwork recovery or anything?
Why does anyone bother with Odin then?
I think I have the DI18 rom, is 158,159,706 bytes the right file size?
You'll still need to odin in the di18 modem. Cwm can't flash a modem

Ofcourse you lose everything. Re-install them back. What i like to do is take screenshots of all my home screens (i'm anal about which apps go on what home screens ) so i know easily what to reinstall.

Help Get Me To Stock

Hey guys I need some help/direction here. I got my phone from best buy and bricked it a few days later. Then I ued odin and flashed goddamn dg27. I was not aware that was NOT the current build. I am on dk28 or froyo right now but I do not like how slow and crappy it is just for those little extra features so I would like some kind of odin or update zip that I can use to get it back to normal or to a state that I can update to di18 or w.e. it is. E.g stock that I can get ota updates also.

The stickied wiki on this forum has directions.
DI18 i believe is the last official update that we got from sprint
here's a link to it

just use it in odin
@Kitteh298 (Misleading Brother): Why don't you ever state what exactly you want, I could have gotten you back to DI18 all along. I thought you wanted to get back to DG27 with all your settings, in which case your backup in Clockworkmod would have worked.
@Everyone else: I'm sorry he wasted your time that could have been used to help someone that actually needs help.
You always have to do this.

The Froyo OTA and you what you need to know..

OK I will put this out there for everyone so we don't have a million threads going on this subject.
1 If your on DI18 stock and rooted with a simple root method you will get the OTA, you will lose root. Also having CWM installed will not break the OTA but you will lose CWM due to the stock recovery being flashed.
2 If your on a DI18 rom that you have flashed with CWM you will get the OTA but it will fail due to the rom not being stock the OTA zip will check for this and if your not on the stock rom the OTA will fail to install.
3 If you have a stock rom with any bloatware removed the OTA will also fail to install the OTA zip file will check your system to make sure its stock.
4 If you running a leaked Froyo build like DK28 or DK17 or any rom made from those leaks you will probably not get the OTA notification at all you will have to reflash back to stock DI18 to get the OTA.
The best thing to do if your running a rom is to wait on someone to make a flashable zip to convert from DI18 to EB13 or a zip to flash from a DK28 rom to EB13 it might take a day or two to get it converted but it will happen after all this time waiting for it another day or two shouldn't kill anyone.
I have stock DI18, rooted, and do have CWM installed (but never ever flashed any ROMs at all), will I be able to OTA? Sorry I'm still new at this.
Good idea to post this. I doubt it will prevent the morons from creating new threads though, there are already 3 or 4 scattered about on this board. Should probably throw something in there about being able to d/l it over Wifi as I've seen that one asked a lot recently, too.

So my question is, I have stock DI18 (Odined back from dk28 last night) and rooted using oneclick root with CWM 2.5.whatever(not CWM3). I have read that if you are rooted and want to receive the OTA update you must not have deleted any stock applications. Oneclick root deleted the stupid asphalt 5 game demo and I am wondering if this is considered a stock app that may affect the result of downloading the update.
edit: just saw the post above mine after i finished writing this one!

+1 ^^^
Seems to be a conflict of criteria...is asphalt demo not considered a "stock" app? If it is, then by the OPs criteria even havin root would break the OTA since one-click removes asphalt...
A little clarification please?

I think the main point is everyone should just wait until a cooked up rom is released....who cares if you get the OTA? Ultimately, aren't you just going to put a custom rom/kernel on your phone anyway?

I'm gonna say this one more time. SOME of us just want to have the littlest, simple satisfaction of receiving the cool little feature of an Over-The-Air upgrade. Because really, how many times does it happen? Its like I want to go outside when there's a comet passing by. Yes, I could just pop in a DVD about comets with nice high-def imagery and commentary by Morgan Freeman, but I didn't actlly DO it.
So do not deny nor judge this opportunity for us. If you cant , then don't post here. The thread isn't titled "why the hell would you retards do an ota just wait for some warezzzzzzzzz! Lolzzzzzzzz!" So contribute if you can, otherwise don't.
Plus....SOME of us have been on a 2006 winmo powered brick for the past 5 years and we got to miss out on this fancy little thing called a firmware upgrade...over the air! OVER THE AIR!

What should someone do to prepare for the OTA
Well as someone said above, not every one has gone through a OTA update (I came to the EPIC from a true PALM when the software was really worth something) and some guidance may keep us from having major problems.
The only thing I could think of was to backup my EPIC. I used MyBackup Pro and backup to both my card and online. Anything else I should do????
George
Thanks for the detailed informed post. We need more like them.
I figure this is the best place to ask this.
I am stock and rooted with one click. I am not running any custom roms. Will there be a stock/rooted release that I can dl from this site or am I going to need to odin back to complete stock and take the OTA update. The majority of what I have been reading is to let your rom maker create a new one. Since I don't want a custom Rom yet, will I be able to get the stock/rooted update.
Thanks!

So thanks to QBking, I Odin'ed back to EC05 stock, and about an hour and a half later I was prompted to install Gingerbread. I'm now running 2.3.5 EI22 Gingerbread.
How can I help Devs? I'm on Stock.

I don't intend to be a jerk, but you could have saved some time by reading the other threads first - that would help tremendously. Everything else you *might* have been able to help with, has already been done (see those threads I mentioned). Your enthusiasm is appreciated, but there isn't anything more you can offer at this point.
But since you're on full stock, check out the how-to guides on rooting - it's slightly more complicated now, you'll need odin to get cwm because there isn't a known exploit to root, and you'll need a custom kernel to prevent the loss of cwm (the full stock kernel reportedly contains a script that will reinstall stock recovery on every boot)
Hopefully that helps you

Successfully updated to EB01! .. in a funny way!

I was having a very difficult time trying to update my stock DL09 to EB01. First problem I encountered was CWM. If you root your phone and install CWM, make sure to install the 2.x or 4.x version instead of 3.x. It seems like once installing 3.0.0.8 (to be specific) it won't allow you to flash certain Roms.
The awkward part happens here... Because I had 3.x in the beginning, once I go into Rom Manager -> reboot phone to CWM -> it goes to 3.x and it shows me this error
"amend script(update-script) is no longer supported
amend scripting was depreceated by google and android 1.5
it was neccacery to remove it when upgrading to clockwork mod 3.0 gingerbread based recovery.
please switch to Edify scripting (updater-script and update-binary) to create working update zip packages.
installation aborted."
However, after installing another CWM version through Odin, after I reboot my phone manually instead of going through Rom Manger, it takes it to CWM Voodoo Lagfix Recovery v.2.5.1.x (-_-
Now because i was in this, I was able to download EB01 with the help of this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948722
Another awkward part is that I didn't wipe data/factory reset when installing. Phone rebooted, it was updated WITH Root. How did this happen? I have no idea. But for sure it is updated to Froyo 2.2.1 and everything works fine.

That's like me saying, "I finally upgraded to Windows 95! It was very challenging, but, in the end, I finally left Windows 3.1 behind!"
Seriously, though, you know that there are many newer Gingerbread builds, and even newer Froyo ROMs right? Why not give one of them a try?
Has anyone seen John Connor?
Agreed, you are running something months old and also kind of ****ty. EB01 is a leaked build that was not very good. Were I you, I would upgrade to one of our gingerbread ROMs like TSM Resurrection..
