Here is Saints Row 3rd working on xperia play through onlive using the xperia play joypads:....boom...
After about 5 hours worth of thinking and tinkering I just managed to get onlive to work with all the xperia play buttons (still not the analogue pads though, think we'll have to wait for it to be xplay optimized for that, unless someone can find a way in addition to this method). I've tested it on Dirt 3, batman Lego, and Saints row 3rd. You can hide the on-screen keyboard for games which have it too which makes for a REAL console experience.
Here's what you'll need:
Game keyboard - https://market.android.com/details?...wsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5sb2NuZXQuZ2FtZWtleWJvYXJkIl0.
Tasker - https://market.android.com/details?...EsIm5ldC5kaW5nbGlzY2guYW5kcm9pZC50YXNrZXJtIl0
Pretty expensive apps, but do a good job
Please note before setting it up, the gamekeyboard software as far as i know is not compatible with the analogue touch pads let me know if you find any difference.
Tutorial:
First things first, install both apps.
Then run GameKeyboard.

click the top tab and you will be taken to the keyboard settings, enable the GameKeyboard by ticking the box, then go into the GameKeyboard settings.
Then you need to scroll down to hard-key mappings, make sure that "re-map hardkey is ticked" and then click on "Hard keymappings".
what you then need to do, is map all your xperia play buttons to something that can be typed with a normal keyboard.
For example, select "mapping 1".
Press the X key on the play gamepad
Then scroll down to the letter A.
This now means whenever you push the X key, the letter A will be sent to the OS instead
I use this config:
x=a
[] = b
/\ = c
R1 = d
r2 = e
start = enter
select = esc
The d-pad should work with onlive.
Dont worry about it screwing with your normal games, this is why you bought tasker, to switch the gamekeyboard on and off when onlive is opened.
NOW!!!!
DONT GO DIVING IN JUST YET!
(technically you don't need to do the next step if you dont want to buy tasker, you can simply change the keyboard manually through the gamekeyboard app if you wish, I just find it easier to ask me to change it whenever I open onlive or close it)
So, Open tasker.
You should be greeted with a loada jargon... just click ok until you get this blank screen.
Now push the little plus icon, and a little pop up should open, type in onlive just to name the task... like this
click ok.
you should then be met with a list of things, just click the applications option.
Now you need to scroll down to your onlive app, select it, then click the tick.
Then click new task
and name your task ON.
You should then be faced with another screen
You then need to click to + icon
you will then get a screen with a load of options on, you need to click the input option, and then select "input method select".
Then once you get to the next screen don't type anything just click the tick, then you should see your new command.
then click the tick again.
then what you need to do before you close it, is click on the task you made ("ON") and a pop up should come up and you need to click "Add Exit Task", than another pop up will pop up.... and you need to click on the "ON" command you made earlier.... confusing i know
then to close the app, click the green arrow
Then when you open onlive... it should ask you if you want to change the keyboard... you click on the "GameKeyboard"... same when you exit the application, you select the "Android keyboard" or if like me you have Go keyboard select the go keyboard.
you get used to it!!
you then have to go into your games you've bought on onlive and change the keys from the in game menu.... most games allow you to do this... Here is a list of games I have gotten to work.
Saints row the third - works but cant change camera view... not enough buttons :/
Dirt 3 - Works but you have to use the onlive on screen pad to navigate the menu, but in game they work.
Lego batman - works but cant move camera.... camera is automatic though so no need really. works
above is a video of saints row the third....hope you enjoy. >_<
Once the game has started you can hide the on screen keyboard by clicking the top left button.
Should also mention that it was mostly my bro who figured this out. If anyone wants to add him on onlive his username is elementom88.
Tell me now that this phone wasn't worth the price?
also, forgot to mention, circle button isn't mappable, couldn't find a way around this, if anyone can figure it out or if I'm being stupid just let me know! =P
Awesome stuff! Great that you got it working and nice tutorial too! Thanks, will try this out
also forgot to check out if the volume buttons can be mappable...which they can so use as L2/R2 maybe??
heres it working on dirt 3, with a bit of lag, boo

You can remap the circle (O) button by using button remapper app to something other than back--afterwards the new assignment can be remapped with game keyboard. I think I mapped mine to [media play] to get it to work. In theory, you can map the other hard keys (menu, home, search) etc. on button remapper as well to something game keyboard recognizes. You can also use the button savior app to give you soft keys (menu, home, search, back) on the touch screen if you want to change the hard buttons to something else.
if you want use Onlive on your tablet and use the phone as remote control
Install DroidMote Server on tablet, DroidMote Clinet on phone.
in the server side change the /system/usr/keylayout/generic.kl with this remapping:
key 304 A
key 305 B
key 307 C
key 308 ENTER
key 309 ESCAPE
key 310 D
key 311 E
how work DroidMote:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1292627
i can't seem to run any game..
"Launching games is not supported on this platform.."
you need to download the full onlive app, that used to happen when trying to launch games from onlive viewer.
The camera on saints row is terrible all I can do is soot on the floor.
Nice app tho
Ok. I can say it out loud. Onlive for android work for the streaming part but for control the game is a ****.
i tested with a microsoft wireless xbox 360 controller for pc on the asus transformer (the site says it is supported), but not work.
I watched a bit the source code and I have to say the developers is not in the correct direction.
from android 3.0 and higher the joystick event can get from sdk and not from ndk.
in the Onlive Viewer there is a **** ndk management of the input devices.
to be clear the ndk is good, the management of the input devices in Onlive Viewer is a ****, it is a port of windows version written in c to android, regardless of how Android handles the input devices.

I agree Saints row is dire without camera control, this is a very good attempt though..Dirt 3 plays well, any one know how to change the keys in lego batman though...A big thanks for these instructions
I can't get the game keybaord because i haven't a creditcard can some one help me with it?
you need to make a note of the keys that batman uses, (the keyboard keys) then go back into gamekeyboard and change the mapped keys to the right ones you want, this shud work with all games aswell if you no the keys the game is listening for....
so in batman if left is "A" you then need to change it to "A" in gamekeyboard
Just to clarify, most of the work was done by basketcase. Looking promising though?? Anyone tried this against the 'onlive helper' app??

Search for test your touchpad post in the dev forum - it has links to sony manuals on the touchpad development. I was offering a bounty for a keyboard responding to the touchpad - i believe i posted some snapshots of what i had in mind on that thread too.

I'm curious if its possible to disable the align screen shortcut on the Wizard (Enter Button in center plus Messages Button) Its really annoying when playing Doom or an emulator in landscape and having that popup all the time. Does anyone know a fix for this?
Unfortunately i dont have an answer for you. but i do have aquestion that i hope youcan answer. I got myself a doom launcher. It works well, but the control setup is terrible on the wizard. If i play in portrait mode, the fire button is the left soft key. So i ahve to fire with the same finger that i use to move. That makes the game unplayable. What launcher are you using and where did you get it?
I haven't done any testing or trying yet, but here is my idea...
what if you rename the align screen app, just so it stops it from launching?

Its called GF Doom (I'm sorry but I don't remember where I got it or whom made it. Although if the creator see's this I would love for him/her to PM me as I also have some questions.) Anyway the launcher shouldn't control the Key Mapping, usually thats done in some sort of config file. With the program that I have the keys are mapped in the skin file's txt document.
Try this, unzip all contents into your storage card and run the launcher you should get Doom, Doom II, and Plutonia (sometimes called Ultimate Doom) as well as a 3rd party mod called Evilution. Keep the default skin, with that the keys I have mapped are:
The directional Buttons for Movement, Messages button for Fire and strafe(I would like to change strafe to volume up/down or Internet but have not been able to if you can figure this out let me know), and the softkeys for Select and Start.
The screen defaults to protrait with your choosen skin. To play in full landscape start the game in the options change the resolution to "low" and it will switch, Hope this helps
I can't seem to get the attachment to work here is the link ftp://[email protected]/Uploads/
the file is pocket doom.zip
A Flock of Seagulls are in my Wizard
It would be awesome to find a way to disable this. Is there maybe an entry in the registry that corresponds to what key combination turns on the align screen program. Maybe it could be changed to some combination of keys that is very unlikely to be executed simultaneously.
Until then, I'll continue to drink foo-foo drinks to calm myself while trying to play any action games.
GF Doom
Dragonedge:
What version of GF Doom do you have? Maybe I have an old version. When I enter full screen mode, the soft keys are shoot and strafe, while the message/IE buttons are menu and escape. I have to use the same hand to shoot as I do to move.
Thanks for the tip about full screen, I would never have figured that out. Now I'm not dissapointed with the program anymore.
Lol, funny posts. Is this still a problem? Does it need investigating?

Not sure what version it is. Check out the ftp I uploaded a zip file with everything I use. Also you can edit the skin files to remap the softkeys as well as the messaging and internet keys. All the information about remapping the buttons is in the skins folder in a txt file names Skin Specs.

Hi Guys,
I think it is absolutaley essential to have Softkey Buttons for Android instead of breaking our Hardware Keys by obsessively using Android.
A nice approach can be seen by the Xda Dev Fireslave who integrated this in his Wphone 7 Theme, which looks quite nice (look at the two Phone Pics on the right ):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=662034
There is a need for this, because there are already Users who complain of breaking their Hardware Buttons by heavy use of the HD2.
Therefore another Developer made this program for the HD2:

I wonder why nearly all outcoming Android Devices from HTC have no hardware buttons anymore?! I think it is for practical use and not only because its a trend in the smartphone developement.
I hope to see a ROM or a Mod for Android in the future...would be very useful!
I am not going to comment or do anything in this Thread as it should be taken as a push for this issue...so if you support this or you get any news about this you can leave something here...

Completely agree, I miss this feature in android over the WinMo. For every single app i have to use h/w keys. Though I am not in favour of completely removing h/w keys as they have their own use from time to time. But the softkeys are must to make it a fully touch screen experience.
hey, what about modifying the keyboard, or notification bar similar to cm6.1?
im not programmer, but on a UI perspective those would be the only places that would be nonintrusive to the rest of the systems UI and would not reduce active screen size.
+1...I'm in for it also.
It's a very good idea!!!!!!!
Isn't especially the HD2 predestinated for this becoz of its huge gorgeous sreen?!
some solution for now ...
A great cause to start an app development! Thumbs up!!!
I have been looking for some "easy to switch app" application, without touching the hardware buttons on my HD2. I saw and experienced the Desire HD rom on the HD2, but still it is far from a final state I stick to the "Mdeejay-6.11.2010-Froyo_sense_v2.3_Clean-kernel-15" which runs like native on my HD2.
So, on the Desire HD Rom there is an easy to "switch between apps" possibility, by tapping on the taskbar, then you have a view of recent apps ...
Some more functions, easy accessible like the software buttons would be cool (for the HD2)!
I had a look on the Android market for "program switcher" and found "smart taskbar". It places a transparent arrow on the right (or left side) of the screen. This arrow is the access to the switcher, you have inside a Home button, Exit button, Recent apps ... All apps access ... or whatever you customize! Or you can customize the access not through the arrow, but the taskbar.
This tiny arrow places itself above nearly all apps. You are able to switch between apps, or show Home screen by only tapping to the arrow.
I found the User Interface inside the app a bit uncomfortable, but there is enough room for improvement (more finger friendly, may be Softkey buttons on bottom?!) ...
This app reduces dramatically the use of the hardware buttons!
A specialized app with Softkeys would be awesome
Cheers and have fun!
yeah thanx,
good app...it is really an enrichment for android and will answer our purpose too...
i think android softkeys are kind a challenge for the developers Let us furthermore hope that it will come true...

Gestures on the HD2 would blow the imagination of usability, i guess! Great idea "clio94"!
We already have some gesture controls, as the pinch to zoom, applied to the desktop, it shows all 7 screens. I can imagine that a gesture would show the Home screen or functions as the Back key! Something like Exposé in Mac OS X
Apple is one of the leading developers in the field of gesture control of interfaces, they have some patents in this field:
http://www.sefranet.net/apple-patents-multitouch-gestures/
... but there is for shure room for imagination and workaround Do not get discouraged developers!
I do not know how the Screen touch sensors of the HD2 are capable of recognition of more than 2 fingers?! Is it all a software driven possibility, can a simple app be installed and the HD2 (or nearly every other android touchscreen phone, that allready has pinch to zoom) would have multi-gesture controlls?
A shame I am not a developer of apps, with some knowledge on that I would initiate something ...
Best regards!
Softkey Project- Android!
Hello
I have been the last night dreaming about those ideas of a Softkey app for HTC HD2 (or Android in general).
This morning I threw some ideas in Photoshop. It is a way how it could look like.
The principles are based on the "smart taskbar" app i mentioned earlier.
Description:
-four soft keys (home, menu, back, search)
-they place themselves over the user interface of a running app
-transparency, position, size can be adjusted over the apps interface
If some of you are developers themselves, you can ad some ideas too?!
It seems like a not too complex code behind, at least those keys would be only shortcuts to the hardware buttons.
I have no knowledge of how to develop Android apps, but would support if someone pics up the Idea (I can provide him/her with graphics etc.).
P.S.Does anyone have some insights about gesture controlling (multi-touch with more than two fingers)?
Cheers
Maybe someone will try to port the buttons from archos 70

Asus Weather Widget
I noticed the other day that if you have the Asus Weather widget on your home screen you can now make it bigger by holding your finger on it and dragging the border down. this will then give you the next 4 days forecasted weather underneath. I am pretty sure it didn't do this in HC.

That's one of the features of ICS, resizable widgets. The ICS launcher also supports scrolling for widgets. Features from custom launchers and ROMs that got added to the basic Android system.
As far as handy, fancy features go, have you tried the swipe to remove feature for notifications? Works just like stopping recent apps. It's nice to see feature consistency in Android.

I found a neat new setting... under "ASUS customized setting", you can reconfigure the Right Button and Middle Button actions on the keyboard dock trackpad or mouse (There is no Mid Button on trackpad). I immediately changed the right button to "Show Context Menu" from "Act as Back Key". I cant count the number of times I exited SpashTop from clicking the right button as I would normally do in Windows.
I don't know if this was part of honeycomb or new to ICS, but if you drag one icon on top of another it turns into a folder.

I saw that as well. The only problem I had with remapping the right click was that to show the context menu you still have to hold down the right click button same as you would the left click.
Also, when using rdp/vnc apps, ones they all registered the new right click as left click whereas before they registered them as normal right clicks in the windows environment being remoted to. It seems that these apps are programed to convert the "back" command to right-click.
Apart from that, it is a neat feature.
Anyone else notice the music control buttons on the lock screen? I had tried to get that working with an app before and failed, and gave up / got bored ;-)
I hope by the time I get my Transformer back it will be in working order and the ICS update is out for Australia I had to return it for repairs as the screen was moving inside the casing
I wonder how many new things I'll find on it over the ICS on my Galaxy S phone here's hoping for a lot of good things and hopefully things that wont break it. I don't think I could stand having it broken again only had it for probably 3 weeks

I've found it to be much faster than HC, where I would get quite laggy performance.
Also the updated file manager app looks spiffy.
FYI I've replaced the stock launcher with Nova launcher.

I don't know if this was part of honeycomb or new to ICS, but if you drag one icon on top of another it turns into a folder.

Lol, my 3 year old showed me how to do this today. I know for sure you can not do that on my ginger evo3d. I said to him where are my icons. He said I put them together because i like them like that.

I just notice while watching Netflix while connected to TV via HDMI, the Tablet screen goes black, leaving just the remote display playing. I don't know if this is a new ics feature, but on honeycomb, netflix would leave both screens active.
Plus, while typing text, if you tap and hold over any text area, a blue selection arrow appears. If you drag this arrow around, a magnifier window appears so you can finely place the text marker exactly at the word or letter you want. Double tap a word to quickly select it.

I thought I'd start this thread to consolidate all the info on the features of the Note 10.1 for those new to Android or tablets, those who are on the fence about buying this, or those who just haven't figured out all the cool features yet
Here's some off the top of my head:
Pinch the keyboard to get this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
You can then move the floating and split keyboards by pushing and holding with 2 fingers.
Press and hold the settings key on the keyboard and select the T icon to switch to handwriting recognition mode.
In the keyboard settings, select "continuous input" for Swype-like functionality.
Feel free to add anything else you might find useful!

Any clue how I could force the keyboard to appear ?
Background of my question is that "Logmein" desktop -version works nicely in stock browser, chrome and opera but I can' t call up he keyboard once I want to type on the remote pc .......
Just found this out: the screen turns on when you pull the pen out.

Had no idea of the swipe style option available on the keyboard...
Here's a video of tips and tricks I've just whipped up. -> http://youtu.be/tC7z5PCdGLE
This is what I've discovered so far: smart stay, motion gestures, keyboard layouts (displayed by OP), handwriting input, nav keys extra functions, S Pen button, mini apps, screenshot key alternate uses and a demonstration of power, four apps running at the same time all of them shown on the screen at once!
Seems the more I learn about this tablet the more I like it. I had removed all of the Sammyware, but now I've out a few things back. Great thread.
Nice feature: Lock screen can be shut off completely ......... very handy when You work with N10.1 the entire day
BTW: stil no one has a clue how to force the keyboard to pop up in browser ?

I am also wondering if it's possible to do this with the keyboard, if you find something, please keep us updated! Thanks
For a keyboard to pop up it needs to have an input field. it will be useless if you pop it up without anything listening to the keyboard.

Well I have this situation where I need to press F12 to change to another page, but no input field in the page by itself. I tried clicking on the address bar to open the keyboard, but since the focus is not at the right place, it's not working. So I have a situation where it is NOT useless.
I don't know what troed wants to accomplish though.

Didn't find where you can shut it off for the whole day. Info, please?
16:10 ratio movie will take up the entire screen in the stock video player - it'll hide the controlls and display edge to,edge.

I'm curious as well. I hate lock screens, they don't seem to have any use to me, especially on a tablet. This thing can't turn on in my pocket, I don't wear clown pants(assuming clown pants have giant clown pockets). I just installed the "No Lock" app which does the trick.

Anyone know if there is any way to go immediately to Google bookmarks in the stock browser instead of local?

"None" should be the very last option in the screen lock page.
Nice. Thanks. Yup, seems I need wipers for my contacts.
Here we go in German settings (see attachment)
Why I need the keyboard to be opened even if there is no "call it to screen" input field:
I use "logmein" now for a couple of years for only one reason: to check my patients data base in my clinic.
Once I'm logged in and the remote screen appears I can click the icons to start the program but once I want to type a name ton the remote PC he keyboard does not appear.
Of course there would be other solutions, but I tried Splashtop Remote and other similar apps which do not work since my provider protects my clinic from outside intrusion by a firewall and even after my provider opened the ports necessary to run Splashtop Remote it does not work. After testing a lot of apps in the last two years with my SGSII/III and Note LOGMEIN is the only procedure that works. Of course I could buy the Android app Logmein ignition but look at the rating of this app, the prize and comments that it works very poor if at all. And why should I buy an app when my magnificent Note10.1 can do the same with it's browser ?IF I COULD FORCE THE KEYBOARD TO APPEAR ON THE SCREEN TO TYPE ON MY REMOTE PC !!!!!!!!
In another thread, I nonchalantly posted that I was able to disable the capacitive buttons on my 8.4 and enable on-screen softkey menu buttons. This, surprisingly, has garnered a lot of PMs and requests for how I was able to achieve this, so I've decided to write up a quick guide on how I was able to do it.
*Root required*
1.) Download & install LMT launcher HERE. This allows you to use the PIE on-screen menu navigation softkeys. I love it even moreso than the stock Android softkeys. Here's what my 8.4 looks like with LMT enabled:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
(The PIE navigation only show up if you swipe your finger from the side of the screen)
2.) Configure LMT as you deem necessary. It works right off the bat, but you'll probably want to mess around with the settings to your taste preference.
Now to disabling your capacitive buttons:
3.) Download a file explorer/manager (I used Root Explorer)
4.) Using Root Explorer, navigate to System > usr > keylayout, and open Generic.kl in Text Editor. Say "Yes" when asked if you'd like to remount the file as read-write.
5.) Once the file has been opened, navigate to key 158 (back) and key 254 (app_switch), and put a "#" sign in front of each line. Save the file. After rebooting, your back and appswitch capacitive keys will no longer function. I personally left the home button enabled, but you can find the home button key in that same Generic.kl file and disable it if that's what you'd like to do.
6.) Next up is disabling the backlight on your capacitive keys, which was waayyy easier than I ever thought it would be. Simply navigate to Settings > Device > Display > Touch key light duration, and switch the setting to "Always off". Wah lah! Now your capacitive keys are disabled and their backlights no longer light up.
That's it! You are now all set to go with disabled capacitive buttons/backlights and have a handy on-screen PIE navigation menu. No more accidentally bumping the back button in the middle of a game. No more distracting backlights annoying you when you're trying to watch Netflix.
There's also a way to add the stock android style soft-menu buttons, but I was only able to make it work in portrait mode, not landscape. I prefer LMT anyways. However, if anyone wants to add the stock android soft-menu buttons, let me know. I can always add it to this guide.
Awesome
Thank you soo much for this thread!
I was looking on how to do it on this tablet safely
I messaged you :3
Thank you.
I will post my results
It did worked on my tab pro 8.4!
Thanks Op
How about stock launcher and the softkeys from android ?
Just found a way for the S4 here at xda.
I come from the LG G Pad, in all points the Pro 8.4 is much better, but ill missing alot the software buttons and the option to change them.
Thanks, nice
Hi for disable buttons and add soft key buttons try Gravity box work like a charm I use on note 3 and G.Tab pro 12,2"

It doesn't seem to be the same running CM 11. Key 158 is there, but 254 is missing. It goes straight from 224 to 256. No app_switch.

Some features work fine. Pie controls work well and it will disable home, back, and recent cap buttons. Enabling nav bar only works in portrait. I use the pie controls from gravity box on mine with system info disabled and have them set to bottom and left side activation as enabling right side interferes with multi window pull out set to 2 px activation. I use the capacitive button disable from this tutorial so that my home button will work.
I'm curious as to why one would want to disable the capacitve buttons?

I use a tablet almost exclusively in landscape mode, this causes me no end of accidental touches to back and recent capacitive buttons while I'm surfing the web or playing a game which after 3 or 300 times in a few minutes is enough to make baby Jebus cry. I used to think cap buttons were a good idea as well until I started using a tablet in landscape. God awful sir. God awful.

I don't have my tablet in front of me now but it was really simple. Just open the LMT software, go to the "PIE" tab, and customize the buttons as you'd like. This is all from memory though so I could be a bit off on where to find the settings, but they're easy enough to find.

Sorry I should have tried that. I thought those settings were to set up additional buttons on top of the base ones since the default action on all of the non-longpress ones were set to disable. I just chose the first 3 and set them to back, home, recent apps and it set it the way you had it.
Thanks.
While in landscape, accidentally triggering the capactive button is quite annoying, thanks for sharing, would like to disable it for my tab.

To add to that, disabling 158 doesn't change button behavior. And, yes, I am mounted r/w. Anyone know anything about this on CM?

Sorry, no idea how to change it on CM as I'm running stock. Maybe crpalmer would have an answer?
Worked like a charm on Galaxy Note Pro 12.2. I had Nova launcher already installed so I use the app Pie Control from Google Play store.
Everything working 100%.
Thanks.

Just FYI, you can run LMT launcher over an other launcher without issue. I'm using the Google Experience Launcher with LMT also installed.
I tried Pie Control and it truly pales in comparison to LMT.
Ok thanks. I will give a try.
