Just Got off Kindle Fire Chat Support - Kindle Fire General

I am an existing Amazon Prime member and I purchased a Kindle Fire which comes with one free month of Amazon Prime and 5GB cloud storage
I did a chat support to ask if there was a way to combine my accounts and get 10GB of storage, the answer was NO
I asked if there was away to run two accounts on one device, the answer was NO
So if anyone has been wondering, the answer is NO!
Now if only someone could come up with an app that could either combine accounts or easily switch between them... or does one exist?

Why?
Sorry, but why would you need to manage two accounts from one device? There may be a good reason, I just can't think of one.

Simply for the extra Cloud Storage. 6GB doesn't seem to be enough for people. PUT IT ON A CLOUD!

Ok- so no to two accounts for reason of combining cloud storage etc- but what about this scenario.. I just ordered one for the wife- who has her own amazon acct.. I have an amazon acct also and on my Droid Incredible I've been d/l'ing the amazon free app of the day pretty much everyday. Will I be able to use my acct to install those apps on here kindle, then log her back into her acct?

No!

and you wont be able to side load them as the amazon apps from thier store, including the free apps, check amazons servers to see if you purchased them. If they are not on your account, you wont be able to use them. You can install them, but they wont work

with that logic, i'll just open up 10 accounts and get 50GB for freeeeeeeeee!

or you could pay a measly $20 for a years worth of 20gb? It's not horrible and we all knew going into it cloud was part of the plan.

Not to beat a dead horse, but this is how the Kindle's have worked since the eReader. That is why the wife and I buy all of our stuff on one shared account and email. That way we can share the apps.
Here is a tip (at least it worked last I checked):
- Go to AmazonMP3.com and buy any 99cent album and BAM, free upgrade to 20GB for a year.

I use AppSaver application on my Nexus S to save downloaded apps from Android Market and transfer to my Kindle Fire. There are some cool games and such that don't show up on the Amazon or Android markets, but do show up for my phone and work perfectly well with the Fire.

Owning multiple Android devices

Silly question but here goes...
I currently have a Nexus One and I'm planning on buying a XOOM next month (wifi only)
question is: can I log into my XOOM with my current google account (used by my N1) and choose what apps to sync etc.. or will I have to create a new google account entirely, just for the XOOM?
Basically, can you be on 2 android devices at once with the same username from google, or not? Cuz I know if you change phones, you just login and it will re-download apps, bookmarks, settings etc.... but will it recognize the fact that you're on a tablet and sorta create 2 profiles?
You only need one Google account. All of your purchased applications will transfer over and you will have the ability to pick and choose what you'd like to install on either device. From my experience, the auto restore for apps and the rest of your data only occurs when you are using the same device, but I could be wrong. For reference, I'm using an LG Optimus for work and a Nexus S for my personal device.
You only need one account. I'm using my N1 and i have a rogers captivate for work and i can sync everything on both phones. It's great to only have to pay once for my apps and use them on a different phone.
You can definitely do that. I have 3 phones synced to my Google account right now.
The web based Android market seems enabled for just this. It will differentiate devices and you can "send" an app to your specific device.
My guess is its not a problem as Android tablets have been around for months now.
Purchased apps can be used on my phone and tablet. The auto restore seems to be device type specific because when I got a loaner MyTouch 4g, it installed everything that was on my N1 automagically (a little surprising).
On the tablet, purchased apps showed up as purchased, but nothing auto downloaded.
My tablet is Archos so it is not official market supported like the Xoom so it would be interesting to find out about the auto restore but I doubt it will.
Market seems to be pretty good about device type identification.

The other thing that seems to impact whether or not apps are restored automatically is when you put in your Google account during the activation process. It seems that all of my devices will restore my apps if I put it in immediately after flashing a new ROM or doing a full wipe, but if I skip that process and add it later, the apps are not restored.
Either way, the device will recognize what you've purchased and will automatically sync contacts, calendar, etc. if you choose it to.
We should ask in the xoom section... I just ordered one too and am kinda interested in how this works.

It's not a 'real' tablet experience, per se, but I just activated a second android device on my account. I've been using CM7 on my N1. I loaded a CM7 ROM onto a Nook Color yesterday, and almost all of my market apps came down when I signed in, many of them with settings intact. Both devices are displayed on the My Account -> Settings page on the web market.
I've been managing the app loads on each device separately. So far I have not noticed any cross-contamination of apps or settings from one device to the other. Contacts have remained synced up the whole time.

when I setup my Xoom yesterday i used the same account as on my mesmerize and it synced
Things like contacts from gmail, emails, and calendar, pretty much the usual google apps.. As far as the other apps, they did not sync in three slightest. The apps which I've paid for show up in my apps so i can download them but they do not do it automatically and I've had to manually download each one and set whether it auto updates or not. As for the other apps
Not a single one even showed as having been on my phone. I guess the rule of thumb is if its a paid app, it will be possible to manually install it from my apps but free apps do not at all carry over.
this is my experience and certainly there is room for improvement... There are apps out there that can do this for us, market quick links is one of those I think. It backs up links for the installed apps so they can be quickly installed on an(other) device...

Most apps will sync in both places. I had trouble with docs 2 go. Would only register on the device it was first installed (licensing issues). They offered to reassign to the new device but then it wouldn't work on the first one.

I noticed when I was purchasing docs to go that it said it would only work on one device at a time, but i think that unless otherwise specified in the apps tos that it should work for all apps but that some companies want to force a second buy for each device even though I can only user one at a time... Greedy aorta sorta and makes me not wanna use apps like that to discourage devs from taking such actions..

I just wanted to make sure... because it would suck to have alllllllllll the apps from my N1 on my XOOM .. I wanna pick which ones. and by picking which ones to keep on XOOM, I didn't want it to "sync" with my N1 and delete them there too!
If they are truly treated as 2 different objects, then perfect!
On a side note, I can't wait for the damn WIFI-only version to come out already!!!
I can confirm that they are all treated differently.
I currently have 3 devices on the go at once and all from the same Google account.
I have the nexus one, nexus s and galaxy tab and I have access to all of my purchased apps on each device without having to install them all......its great!

I bought mine at retail for full price, and do not plan on using any net other than my home wifi and tethered wifi from my sgs mez if on the go. No breed for a 2nd monthly bill. I would encourage you to purchase it from other than vzw. According to vzw they cannot Add device insurance unless its got a phone no... crappy huh?
How much cheaper do you think wifi only will be and when will it be out?

I have an N1 and just got a viewsonic g tab. None of my apps automatically installed on the tab using the same google account, but I can confirm that my purchased apps were in the list. If you have a ton of free apps and don't want to dig through the market for them all, you can use a backup app to back them up on your N1 and then copy them over to the tab and restore the ones you want. This saved me a lot of time.
Jon
actually, I didn't want ANY apps to sync at all I want both my devices to be unique, but use the same google account. Looks like I'll be ok!
Thanks for all the responses guys!
As long as my N1 and future XOOM sync contacts/calendar/etc... but not all apps, I'm happy

might be off topic, but whats the cheapest cloud storage service

I have drop box right now and really like it, but would like to get more than 100 gb, preferably cheaper. Anyone have any recomensations?
A home server would be cheaper then a cloud service at that level.

This is what I use too. Very handy for pictures and docs, and I bet that I'll be able to use this $80 when Google releases Google Music cloud storage as well.
Amazon S3 is hands down the cheapest, fastest and best option, BUT, it lacks a dedicated app :-(

you could try mozy or carbonite...
just looked at amazon s3 pricing. Confusing price structure but it appears to be much pricier than google's $20/yr for 80gb.
The one thing that does attract me to sticking with google cloud is the way they arr integrating online services with honeycomb.
How well is Google's storage intergrated with android? I would like to have access on all my devices. Also, is there an app for Google storage or something like it
Anyone know about the intergration.
It's pretty limited to applications that sync with Docs. But your storage space is broadcast across all Google Apps - Gmail, Picasa, Docs, and probably Music when it hits.
"Docs" is where you would actually store what ever you needed to. You can upload any file type to your docs account.

Can you advise as to any good home server software + apps. I'm already aware of Plex and Subsonic.
Im using a plain old WD NAS with cifs on netstorage. There is a web interface to access the data from anywhere. Are you cloud storing for anywhere access of for disaster recovery...wouldnt make much since to back up to a net drive at yoru home if its for disaster recovery.

I haven't been able to test the video playback (since I'm not on a wifi network and don't want to wait over 3G) but there is a newly released Google Docs app that lets you access all of your files you have uploaded (that also uses up whatever online storage space you upgrade to).
I currently use Amazon Cloud for my music (bought a $5 album for an extra 15 GB of space for the year), Plex for movies on my desktop at home, and Google Docs for photos and videos (I paid $5 for the 20 GB for the year in addition to the free 7.5 GB of Gmail space).

Oh yeah, that's right. You can use soRAMi (or however they spell it) to upload/download files.
The only problem is you're limited to 50 mb file sizes.
I went with the $20 / year 80 gig from google as well. The integration with all things google is definitely very handy. I've uploaded tons of home movies to Picasa and shared with my extended family.

Business calendar free

Just heads up in case you want it free. Its the amazon free app of the day. Save the 5 dollars dont ya know.
Sent from my HTC Incredible using XDA app.
Every time I go to download one of the free apps of the day it wants me to enter my credit card information and then cancels the download, even tho it is saved on my amazon account already. When my sister downloads any apps using the amazon app store she does not get this pop up and is allowed to download the apps even tho she has no credit card associated with her account. I don't get it.
That sucks a$$. You could try removing the CC and add it back to see if it works... ORRR, go buy you one of those Gift (burn) CC's with a small amount on it just to get all the free apps from Amazon.
I've been waiting/hoping the Business Calendar would hit the Amazon Market so I could have a calendar widget again... Ya know... ADW Launcher not compat with the OG calendar widget and all.
20 free apps/games and counting... waiting for midnight to see what gift is coming next.
I got that one... but I still like Jorte a little better. I like that Jorte syncs with google Tasks and it has GREAT widgets.

Amazon App question

Is there any way to have two Amazon Apps or two Amazon accounts on one Iconia 500? Both my wife and I have separate Amazon accounts and sometimes share the tablet.
cant you log out and then use the other email address to log in. I am not sure why you would need two accounts thou
I though about logging off, but apparently I would have to de-register the tablet with my Amazon account.
As for why we have two accounts, we read very different books and each have our own spending money, so it makes more sense for us to have separate Amazon accounts.

After i replied to you post i tried logging out of my Amazon account. You are correct does not work.I would give Amazon a call they do take tech support calls. As we have done so once a while back. There is a number on your amazon account.
there is a app called switch me. That allows multi users on the tab But IM Guessing it will not help with this as i think the amazon account if fixed in the d/load link.
Good luck

So, isn't this what the OP wanted to do?

I haven't tried it yet , but I would think the SwitchMe app would do the trick..
I have tried it for my kids and me, so that they can have a tablet full of games and I can have a clean slate for my stuff. Each instance is like a new desktop. Worth a shot.
For the sake of clarity, I have tried the app and still use it.. I have not tried it for the purpose that the OP is asking.
Edit: I Should have read everything, Erica already mentioned the app. i don't have 2 Amazon Accounts to try.

Youtube purchases?

logged into youtube for the first time since using my Nexus 4, and it shows that i have 3 new purchases today. I have not made these purchases and can not find any charges on my credit card (that i use for online stuff) or my Wallet account. anyone else see this?
I know this is a stab in the dark, but worth a shot.
well, i found them, loks like my phone automatically snagged them in an update somewhere...
odd but free.
found in the play store order info screen along with some books and music...
Looks like they're doing what they did with the N7 I guess. N7 owners got transformers and some other junk like that for free.
I don't like the idea that the phone can do things like that without my permission. I mean if it can make purcases (that are free) what's to keep the same thing from happening for items that are not free?

Dude, they're just gifts from Google. Items that are automatically added to your account when you register a new Nexus device. The device didn't make any "purchases"--it didn't go out into the store and press buttons behind your back--these are just things that Google gifted into your account, and that's just how these gifts show up in your account, as so-called free "purchases" (they gotta show up somehow, right?).

How did you access your purchases on your nexus 4 in the youtube app ?
The way I did it was on the computer access the purchases then move those purchases to Favorites, then in the app, click on your profile then it should be there but only thing is that it says unsupported playback or something. What can I do to watch them on my phone?
