ICS to release on January 2012 for Xperia Phones - Xperia Play General

Great news for all Sony Ericsson Xperia phone owners, who have been eagerly waiting for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to run on their devices. A Sony employee has tweeted, rather optimistically, that ICS should be expected to arrive in the very first week of January next year for all 2011 Xperia handsets.
This is a bit of a contrast to the statement of Sony Ericsson Italy, who have said in a Facebook post, that the software update shouldn't be expected before March 2012.
Meanwhile, though, the Xperia arc and neo Ice Cream Sandwich firmware has been submitted for certification by the smartphone manufacturer. If it passes the thorough certification checks, we could indeed see ICS as soon as early next year.
This means that the Xperia active, arc, arc S, mini, mini pro, neo, neo V, Play, pro, Xperia ray and Live with Walkman are going to be one of the first amongst the vastness of Android smartphones to enjoy the new Android software.

I hope that Sony carries through with it. Otherwise, Galaxy Nexus here I come......!!
I would expect no change to previous indications from SE on future Android updates, in fact expect better support since Sony's intention is to focus on smartphones and drop other lines.
Also, Sony didn't buy Ericsson, Sony bought out Ericsson's share in the SE joint venture so that SE is now 100% owned by Sony as a subsidiary and will likely change names in the future to drop Ericsson from the name.

x10 not getting ice cream sandwich from sony

we wont get ice cream sandwich update coz is rolling out only for 2011 xperia smartphones
The first smartphones to get the upgrade are the Sony Ericsson Xperia arc S, Xperia neo V and the Xperia ray starting March end and April 2012. The Sony Ericsson Xperia arc, Xperia PLAY, Xperia neo, Xperia mini and mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia active and the Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman would get the update between April end and early May.
no x10
omg that's sooo shockiiiiiiiiing, Damn SE, let's give them helll
It cant be true, omg i already had pc companion ready, damn those bastards, time to spam their inboxes

ICS for 2011 Xperia series

Bad news guys. SE delayed the update for the phones. Now we have to wait another month or two.
Really sad and bad news for all 2011 Xperia owners.
Sony just confirmed that the update to Android 4.0 ICS will not start at end of March or early April for Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V and Xperia Ray and end of April or early May for Xperia Arc, Xperia Play, Xperia Neo, Xperia Mini, Xperia Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, Xperia active and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman.
It will now start from mid-April 2012 for Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V and Xperia Ray and from end of May or early June for Xperia Arc, Xperia Play, Xperia Neo, Xperia Mini, Xperia Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, Xperia active and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman.
For the new flagship Xperia S they didn’t even say a month, just that it’ll be updated “from the later part of the second quarter”.
That means the users might have to wait untill June 2011.
I thought about getting a Xperia S, but now I think I won’t. What do you guys thing about that late release for the Xperia S?
And as always the update will only be available via PC Companion and SEUS and not via OTA.
Sony only pushes out small Android updates like from 2.3.2 to 2.3.3 out via OTA.

Already 2 threads, most obviously is this one.

Sony is yet to decide which 2011 Xperia phones will get Jelly Bean

When a Sony spokesman let it slip that the company wouldn't update its 2011 Xperia Android smartphones to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, users got upset. Big time!
But now it's time to turn that frown upside down, for Sony has released an official statement that this information was given "in error". The company says it's still researching which of the devices will actually get to receive the tasty Jell Bean update.
We are actively investigating Android OS upgrades for all devices, but in the meantime, our Ice Cream Sandwich rollout for Xperia S and 2011 Xperia smartphones continues as planned.
This is great news for owners of 2011 Xperia devices like the Xperia Arc and Xperia Mini Pro. All there's left to do now is wait and believe in Sony, though at that rate, we wouldn't expect ay update earlier than the holiday season.
