Siri? I laugh in the face of Siri! Ha ha ha ha! - Atrix 4G General

Hey guys!
Although Siri, in its essence, is no real innovation (google voice search has existed for a long time now) I do admit I enjoy how Siri presents information. Now I've tested quite a few Siri look alike apps (one of which, admittedly funny, is named Iris) and now I've come across one called Omega.
https://market.android.com/details?...t#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5hc3luYy5vbWVnYSJd
The only downside is that it costs quite a bit of dough for an app
Anyway, I thought I'd share this with you guys!
What do you think?

Siri isn't just Google voice search. It's much more innovative if you have used it much. The concept may not be new, but Siri definitely takes it much further than ever before.
Have you tried this app personally?
There are quite a few apps which claim to do the same as Siri, but in side by side tests which you can find on YouTube, they are all seriously lacking. It will take more than a couple of people creating apps to match Apple having a whole team of professionals work on something like Siri over an extended period of alpha and beta testing from concept through to release candidate.

there is no other apps that can claim the same voice as Siri's. the voice is priceless.

I asked Iris about "Wish you were here" she said it was "the 2001 single by singer Wyclef Jean". Uninstalled.

Google voice search might have been first, but Siri blows it away.

Thanks for my daily LOL!

Nice to see Android users giving Siri some praise. I've read some other forums and it's just a bunch of mindless Apple bashing. I tried Siri myself on my sisters iP4S and was pretty amazed at what it could do. Hopefully someone will be able to develop an app that gives a similar level of performance.

I used some voice commanding applications which are powered by google voice.
And it was not a pleasant experience.
If you have interested in this, try 'Speakit assistant' and 'Vlingo' at market.
It is free

My review of a Siri beater, it's free, customizable and unlike Siri, works outside the USA for finding locations business etc

Hmm, tried it on my Atrix and compared it side by side with Siri. While it's not terrible, it didn't seem to be quite as accurate and it wasn't nearly as fast as Siri is. Siri just looks so professional in comparison too. I'd be less reluctant to use Speaktoit if it didn't look like it was made for children.

On the customizable front you can remove the avatar and just have a mic there - just like Siri.
The beauty of Speaktoit is the fact that if you want you can make your assistant however you want it to look - its much more personnel than the faceless Siri.

f apple. hahaha.

Siri has some humour in it also which I haven't really seen in the Android apps.

Voice Actions Plus is the closest i've found to Siri. Yet it is not quite as good, it is getting close and does have some humour. Vlingo is rated half a star higher but i found it to be not as good.

Lets not put down Siri so fast. Siri was made independently and was originally planned by the developers for all devices but Apple bought them out and claimed it as "Apple's innovation".
Apple sucks in my opinion. Siri is pretty cool kudos to the developers too bad they sold out. Maybe the payday was worth it though. What a dream haha

Apple has made AWESOME products since day one. Laptops last forever. The iPhone is almost perfect. Its so well polished its nuts.
Apple does alot of low blows when claiming things or attacking other companies, but their products are amazing. I would have an iPhone right now, but I love big screen phones. Its so easy to use and everything around you is iPhone compatible. But then again, developers only have to worry about making an app that is only run on 2, maybe 3 different phones. Android developers have to factor in so many phones when making an app.
I've got love for both companies.

I actually tried Siri back when no one knew what it was and you could download it from the appstore. It wasn't anywhere close to as useful as it is now. I think Apple did a good thing by buying it and integrating it into the OS.

All his criticisms can be easily alleviated with downloading apps from the Market, but for average Joe who just wants to use the phone as he bought it, he is right I'm afraid.
Out-of-box experience for Samsung phones is still nowhere near HTC, let alone iPhone. A great majority of phone users aren't elite linux hackers. They just want to buy a damn phone and use the damn phone. Samsung has a lot of ways to go in this regard.

He must have been reviewing a different phone if he says it had great battery life!
Also all the things he slated about gingerbread that apparently sense can do can be fixed with apps if they're that important to him.
In all honesty do we really care about what the guardian or other mainstream media says? Anyone who does their own research will quickly work out how good this phone is..

yea i saw that review on my twitter feed this morn. Out of the box, the SGS2 is more functional than the sensation. 8hrs of battery life is pathetic in idle. LOL!
If you don't want to use the feature then don't and stop *****ing about it!

He is right about the keyboard and wrong about the battery, but only because he hasn't installed anything on it to customize the phone. The funny part was spending time complaining about how you have to pull down the notifications (he's bound to love that in ios5) to turn off wifi when to me this is an advantage - I can do it right now without leaving this text entry - how is that worse than having to go to a homescreen widget?

The only criticism I would make is that, as with the Google-driven Nexus S, the border around the edge where the screen fits in can rub your ear just that little bit annoyingly when you're making a phone call. The HTC Incredible S is better in that regard.

He can think what he likes. I do.
Charles Arthur is a renowned Apple fanboi, I've hard many posts deleted from comment sections for no reason at all (well, some were valid...).
The Guardian as a whole is ludicrously biased towards all things Apple. Some of their guff is plain advertising.
Also pretty sure that a SGS in the photo, not the SGS2....

And really it's true my GF loved my Desire, thinks it's much better than the iphone, but really can't figure out the SGS2 (she's an iphone user)
To be honest im not convinced the review is biased because he is generally comparing it to the Incredible S. It's just a bad review in my book. I can understand if he said great phone a few annoying niggles out of the box, and gave it 4 stars. But to not even mention that ALL the issues he reports can be fixed by apps is shocking.
If the S2 is a 3 star phone what would the likes of the ZTE blade or the Galaxy Apollo be. Phones that i know plenty are people really like but share the same issues with far inferior hardware? 1 star?
Actually, for the most part I do agree with the author (exception being the notification area for wifi on/off etc, which I think is great).
He's spot on with the keyboard, though. It's crap, Swype isn't much better, and you'll need to pay for anything. Currently using Swiftkey X, which is a good replacement, but doesn't work in the email app. WHY, SAMSUNG, WHY, WHEN IT WORKS IN EVERYTHING ELSE?

Android Speaktoit App Blows Away Apple's Siri

Android App Speaktoit Assistant Blows Away Siri...and available for 97.5% of ALL 190million Android out there (unlike the Siri junk which is only available for the iPhone4Sux - meaning 0%) [Video]
October 13, 2011, By Leo Xavier
http://www.devicemag.com/2011/10/13...nt-is-more-popular-than-iphone-4s-siri-video/
VIDEO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myE498nyfGw&feature=player_embedded
You will most probably agree with us when we say that Apple failed to deliver anything awesome at the unveiling ceremony of its iPhone 4S. Although the device comes with a lot of hardware upgrades, it didn’t amaze people like all the past products from the company.
One of the device’s features that the company was so excited to tell everyone about was the Siri technology that “lets you use your voice to send…” well, many of you already know the rest of that announcement.
That description about Siri is just too much of an introduction for something that is already available on the market and is much more popular than Siri. We are talking about the Speaktoit Assistant Android app.
The Speaktoit app may not have a sleek name as Siri, but it has more features and downloads of the app have vaulted into the tens of thousands in the past week.
According to a spokesperson for Speaktoit, downloads have grown “400% in seven days” and the app is “adding 3,000 users a day based (so far) only on word of mouth and rave reviews on the Android Market”.
The free Android app is already doing many of the things that Siri will start offering tomorrow onwards.
Similar to Siri, Speaktoit understands conversational context. You just have to tell the app what it should do. It can send emails, send texts, look up information, post to Twitter, update your Facebook, find news, look up traffic, look up weather, and do much more.
But in addition to all those features, Speaktoit also lets you choose a cartoon avatar to converse with. Therefore it’s much more personal and fun.
Better still, the app learns as it’s used, making it more helpful with time. For example, users wanted the app to play music, and the functionality is available today.
Just in case you are wondering, the iOS and BlackBerry versions of the Speaktoit app will be available in the very near future. We will let you know when that happens. For now, check out the video and you can place your comments below.
VIDEO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myE498nyfGw&feature=player_embedded
How can it be better than Siri when no one knows how good Siri will be? I guess true reviews can come out today since the devices go out.
Of course this is just and advertisement/press release.... and so we shouldn't beleive a word of it.
The video is impressive, but it appears to use Google Voice for recognition so recognition will only be that good. It's also very fast (like the apple commercials), which lead me to believe it's not real time and probably carefully scripted.

Yup quite true.
Although coming back to this app, I've tried it and it didn't go very well.
Apple bought Siri well over a year ago.
I'm at work right now, but I installed STI and it's kind of fun. I'm mostly typing into it. Things like "Get me to REI", "What's the closest Subway?" "Twitter" and everything is connecting to the right answer pretty quickly. I'm looking forward to testing it out later when I can talk into it.
Edit: I've gotten quite a few error messages now: "There was an unknown error. I'm telling my creators about it right now so they can fix it as soon as possible."
so i just installed this APP on my vibrant and it sucks balls. It lags like a MOFO. I asked all sorts of questions and only about 20% of the time it got it right.
I'm not a fan of this APP as of now.
Hopefully with updates and lag fixes will improve it.
"Thumbs down" for me. But good effort
I'm not knocking this app, this is just my personal experience.

I am an android user, I have both speaktoit and vlingo and use both quite often. I got the chance to.interact with Siri for a bit today. I will say the biggest difference between both of them and siri is the fact that siri has personality. Yes vlingo and speaktoit are quite resourceful, but you can't joke around with them! Ask siri where you can hide a body or tell it your horny! Ask it for a blowjob etc and the personality aspect of it comes into play! Im sorry to say but being able to interact with an application on that level and with the responses it.gives in my opinion make it more desirable to me! Yes android has had all the fundamentals for quite a long time, but apple took it to a whole new level with personality! I look forward to seeing what the android community and Google developers will.come up with in the personality aspect
please, lets look at facts and not be fanboys OP. I am an android user/programmer, and even I will admit, Siri is quite better than anything android really has now.
tried speak to it and my major problem with it, if it doesnt know how to reply to your query, it just says something like looking into it, and a lot of its responses are ambiguous. As far as i am concerned, speak to it is google voice given its lack of understanding for typically used phrases
Voice action app is really good. It will set your alarm and things like that by just saying " wake me up at 8 a.m." You can kinda have a conversation with it too.

I couldn't stop laughing at his ignorance that he was comparing SGS phones to Chinese replicas! Realized that he is just a small kid who never BOTHERED exploring the market to understand what he is going for. Thats what I call true iPhonetic!

For all you Android fanboys - stop trying to prove a point. Android is good for people who want control over their device and aren't afraid to tinker with stuff. iOS is good for people who don't care, and just want their phone to work straight out of the box.
Android is getting more intuitive with ICS, but its still not as intuitive for new users as iOS. Deal with it. I absolutely love my SGS2 and Android, but I'm not about to fool myself (or anyone else) that Android is right for everyone.

+1. Best comment on here. Stock galaxy s2 has nothing on a stock(not jail broken) ip4s. But im into tinkering thats why the iphone isnt for me.
looks like an iphone but powered by android baby!!!!
Iphone is the best smartphone in the world. Even the first iphone is much faster and smoother than the cheap plasticky SGSII. Glass is much more stronger even than titanium, and much costlier, that's why other manufacturers don't afford to use it.
Previous iphone had the 4G's, the Wi-Fis and sh!t and was cool, any fool can realize that the new iphone has 4Ses and not just 2 as the Galaxy, hence is twice as faster!
Android not good, it's only for rocket scientists.
Just to call someone you need to read "Android for Dummies, 3rd Edition" - chapter 10 "How can I make a phone call" and then read FAQ section: "How do I end a phone call".
Installing an app is covered in Chapter 45, Section 18 - screen by screen instructions with drawings.
iPhones are more of a status symbol than anything else. Apple give you a phone with pretty basic features and you will love it because it has a little badge on it. Samsung give you a phone with the capabilities of a mid-range PC. I'm not for or against both, I own a PC and a Mac, an S2 and an iPad. It's personal preference at the end of the day.
If anyone knows of a Winterboard equivalent for Android please let me know!

He's right..Android is not a phone....it's thousands of phones as opposed to the iphone is but 1. As far as quality, I have dropped my phone 4 times on the hard tile of Walmart (stupid memo app for shopping lists) and barely a mark on it. My buddy is on his 5th iphone from each drop it shattered and killed the screen...there is your quality. But Masaidjet is correct, you can't argue with iphone fanatics...they already proved their mental state in their choice of a phone made for children to use.

Pathetic iphone fan boy... you can't argue with those types. Just have pride YOU know what OS is better. =] as well as what phone is better... Its really pointless trying to talk a fanboy into thinking he's wrong...

Yeah, I'm starting to realize that...lol. Figure you guys would get a kick out of his responses though.
Here is a new one after I told him I was able to install third party apps out of the box...

"Never argue with a fool - they will drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience."
^ THAT!
Why did you post this? All it did was piss me off.
1. Samsung made the iPad3s "revolutionary" display. They even project to buy billions in parts from Samsung this year.
2. My friend has an iPhone 4S. And the retina display DOES NOT look better. It's far more washed out and far less saturated. You can not even compare the colors even at stock values.
3. The hardware IS pushing limits. The iPhone 4S' 800MHZ dual-core processor is outdated. And comparing it to the Atrix, which came out March of 2011, it is. Does Joe not know that the One X just came out with a ****ing 1.5GHZ quad-core processor? The screen sizes are much larger, have higher resolutions, deeper colors, curved displays, and lets not forget Gorilla glass. How are they going to release the iPad 3 with a dual-core processor and still charge that price?
4. How is Joe going to talk about the quality of the iPhone? That's absolute babel. Anyone in their right mind would know making a cell phone out of glass and an easily shatterable display makes paying $399.99 for anything not worth while. You drop that four hundred dollar POS? IT'S BROKEN! The back will shatter! The screen will crack! What the hell is innovative about that?! "All manufactures are trying to do is catch up to the quality and hardware" ***** please. Android abandoned that disgusting look and feel loooong ago. We ***** slapped you with no buttons, we ***** slapped you with better hardware, and we utterly raped you with what Android can do compared to primitive operating system. Ubuntu for Android is the perfect example.
5. He misused fragmentation and clearly put invocation where innovation should go. His grammar and punctuation is awful in some spots, and his use of words he doesn't really understand is consistent. And please bro, don't ever jump on us about bashing you for stealing functionality. Apple invented that. Apple invented and maintains backstabbing tactics, and has successfully set back technology years. Please, read this. Because it would take me too much time to explain why Apple is the devil and why Steve Jobs deserves to burn in hell for all eternity.
6. **** jailbreaking! How DARE he compare that to rooting?! How DARE he think that could be anything like it in any way? Android out of the box can install 3rd-party applications. And that seems to be the only thing he could say about that! Android being open-source should be enough to shut him up about that, but because he is clearly so stupid and doesn't know any technological terms outside of the tech blog he must read, he is oblivious the the capabilities of Android. This guy must think Steve Jobs was truly Jesus.
People like this are the blight of the world. The only thing I hate more than Apple are the people using their products. Especially the ones who know nothing about anything technological. Android is the best mobile operating system hands down. Not because it's disgustingly simple and "easy to use", but because it's capable of doing far more than iOS could ever hope to do. Android being open-source allows it to do ANYTHING. Any feature in existence and every feature to be invented can be and will be brought the the Android platform. "From a developers standpoint, there is no comparison in my eyes." Anyone who knows anything about actual development has dumped iOS. Because whether you know it or not, Android has taken over the mobile platform. People have left iOS for cheaper, more durable, more powerful, and all around better platform. So if you want to delude yourself into thinking that iOS and Android are still comparable. go ahead, but you're only kidding yourself.
That....is epic!!! Love it! Sorry for stirring the pot today, but did get some lulz! You guys rock! Good stuff.

And further to Darkie's rant; my buddy jailbroke 2 iPhones (4 and 4S) and both of them bricked. Had to pay Apple iGeeks a fortune to reload lousy OS. I can bring my phone back to Sprint and they don't give a flying rat's ass if its rooted or not.
Well, I hate to anger you guys further, but just got to my computer checking mail, FB, etc. And seen he commented again. I haven't been home for a while, so I have been yet to paste any of your responses there.
This is a long one too, but now I can cut and paste it.....
"It's always the same arguments. Citing 20 different phones, 100 different features, who has what first, etc.... It's the same on both sides of the argument. It all boils down to preference... Both sides will fight tooth and nail to make their points heard. But nobody can deny the fact that no matter what Android OS you're on, or what phone ( HTC, Samsung, Google, Motorola, etc ) they are never compared to each other or previous models, they are all compared to the iPhone. Since that is true, you gotta ask yourself, if Android is so much better regardless of manufacturer, then why? It's not apple or "iSheep" making these comparisons. It's rating companies, magazines, and media making these comparisons. The iDevices do, and always will stand alone. And every new phone will be compared to it. I don't think less of Android users... There is an argument to be made about anything. My personal preference is the iPhone ( being someone who as had and used both OSs and Android on several different platforms ). A lot of argument comes from people, and developers, who have never even owned an iPhone. Maybe just played with one in a store or tooled around on a friends. As iPhone users/developers/jailbreakers, we all agree that Apples restrictions to content is for the most part bull****. So to argue that one is better than the other from a downloadable content standpoint is valid. But I prefer the solid foundation that the iPhone provides. I think the OS is better implemented and that the hardware is superior to any competitor. Since I am able to jailbreak my device, I can install any software I choose, and again in my opinion is better than any content available in the Android Marketplace or on the stock Android OS. The rest is pure marketing. Are there pros and cons? Depends on what you need your device for. The simple fact is, Apples iOS is designed specifically for the iPhone. There are not 50 platforms. Android is open source so any manufacturer can add whatever feature sets they want to the OS. I think that's the biggest downfall, but that's how these companies sell their devices and try to set themselves apart from other manufactures. Android/Google don't care what features they add or what hardware manufactures install the OS on. The manufacturers pay to use the OS. Same with windows phones/computers. There is no quality control other than applications and software extensions have to meet minimum requirements to get licensing. All these manufactures have is themselves to compete with and usually offer up 1 "premium" model thats build to retail markup is ridiculous because for the most part, they use the cheapest commercially available hardware that meets spec sheet, not actual, performance standards. They put it all together in pretty cases with impressive looking feature sets then install a OS that was not designed to work on that particular hardware setup. Then they box it and ship it. That's why the UI is fragmented, but it's got a lot of appealing features that people gotta have. They tend to ignore the performance issues because they got all these bells and whistles on a 4 inch screen. Some features are useful innovations, but they come from developers outside of Google. Google buys software and implements it. Apple is not so open to outside development, but like Android, most of the innovative features were inspired from the developers in the jailbreak community and rewritten by Apple to work with the hardware. The point is, everything Apple is designed and implemented internally and each component is built by vendors to exacting specs. Much more quality control which produces a much more solid device. They have control over everything right down to the batteries and it is all designed with performance and durability in mind, they don't cut corners. The build to retail margins are much different... That's why they are more expensive and carriers are taking a hit selling them at contract prices even tho those prices are 2-4 times greater than Android based phones."

Apple fanboys never cease to amaze me

http://www.bgr.com/2012/06/12/apple-ios-6-features-android-opinion-criticism/
It's a fun read.
Skimmed the article, got a few chuckles out of the comments though. I very rarely venture over to BGR just because of how much of an Apple stench their journalists have.
Pretty sure android has all those features, and has had them for some time now

ROFLMAOSTFH! That was great! Haven't laughed that much lately! That was truly cringe worthy. *shudder*
Android is four steps behind iOS, is it? More like iOS is playing catch-up from being four furlongs behind.
I'm still chuckling!!

seems like BGR will be losing a lot of readers after this based on their comment section

Its slow going, but people ARE getting bored of Apple. All but one of my iOS owning friends has moved to something else, mostly Android, one Blackberry, even the fanboi Gadgets review sites are getting critical, slowly, the same old design is looking old, uninspiring and boring.
This article is pure fanboi drivel. Some people dont even try to hide it any more, its embarrassing for them, really, and its nice to see the vast majority of the comments are calling him out on it.
Well that article proves that IOS users are paying close attention to the insane growth of android, its OS and how IOS compares to it. Bgr is scared ****less.
Wow that was a pretty laughable article, I have both Android and iOS guess which I find myself using more daily...give ya a hint its a "Dairy Product" as a company liked to point out yesterday.

That's true, I hate offering hits to these websites to read their laughable and biased articles.
Still, judging by all the people in the comments section saying they're taking BGR off their news feeds, it seems like this article might have done more bad than good for their hits in the long run.
Looking at the new features just makes me think "wow was it really that limited before?"...
Lol

I guess that is a prime example of Cognitive Dissonance.
It can't be what should not be: Apple is a Copy+Paste company, which didn't came up with a single innovation for their new OS.

I don't know why but I get so worked-up when I read garbage like this. Ugh!!!
Frankly all these features they added are just basic essentials. Im half expecting them to say that the iPhone will finally be able to make calls in iOS7 (a new innovation no doubt!).
You thought that was bad... you should have seen the Cnet Prizefight with the Ipad 2 vs ASUS Transformer Prime... THAT was the most biased thing I have EVER seen...

Completely stunned at how ridiculous that article was. Just absolutely absurd. I seriously thought that it was some kind of joke. Hard to believe that there really are people that think that way. Maybe they just like living inside Apple's bubble because they aren't intelligent enough to think on their own.
Also those new nav buttons don't those look familiar hmm maybe stolen from the galaxy nexus. Bgr what a joke.
Cupcake edition of Android had most of those features lol. WOW these guys are true iPhone fanboys lol.
