Got a Galaxy note today - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Hello,
I've used the Note and I like it very much, i'm not a big fan of stock roms but this one is okay. One question...how do I change my dock icons to custom icons please? I am very familiar with Android having owned a ZTE Blade and more recently a ZTE Skate so not sure why I can't change the dock icons on my Note thanks.

I want to install a theme, however I need to be rooted, can someone please post a easy version of what to download and instructions please? Come one people...help me out please!

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
^ I used that method for root.
I too just got my note today GREAT device! Hope this one is a keeper.

go to your apps drawer, tap the menu/settings capacitive button (cant remember what its really called), then tap edit. drag an icon out of the dock, then drag a new one in.

Thank you oh...when I meant icons...I meant custom icons, not the app icnos in the 'App tray', not to worry though

Just got mine today also!

[Q] Using different system fonts on Epic 4G?

As far as I understand, other Galaxy S phones have the ability to change the system fonts via the Settings -> Sound & Display menu.
Why is the Epic 4G left out with that menu?
I would really love to try other system fonts, especially some of the ones found in the Samsung Vibrant thread (as a newbie, I'm not able to post links here...)
I'm currently with the stock ROM, but will I be able to change my system fonts like the other Galaxy S phones if I flash a custom ROM? If so, which one?
I haven't found any info on this feature in any of the custom ROMs so far.
Geez, I didn't think I was the only one with this question...

We're missing a lot of features because we're using TouchWiz 2.5.
I was wondering the same thing. I had a Nexus before my Epic and had it themed with a Galaxy theme that had a great font. I wish I could change it.

Samsung Galaxy II update to increase the size of icons
Even if Samsung were stupid enough to actually do this (and they aren't), you could just use an alternative boot loader (which most of us do anyway).
If you're on this forum, and still using a stock Samsung firmware, then what's wrong with you?
Number of rows on the homescreen is not hard to change, i am sure there will be a mod out within days to change it.
There will also be alternative launchers, tw4.5 etc.

I like it. Shrug. Big icons is some of the reasons people use MIUI in the first place.
OMG! They are giving us the option to have larger icons!! How crazy is that? People with bad eyes shouldn't be using smartphones!!!!!!!!

I myself dont use Kies as to me its a big load of crap although sometimes I do like to try officially released firmwares just to see what they bring and then after a week flash back to XDA firmwares. What hacks me off is that things can get to this stage with the bull between companies.People that dont flash for what ever reason, and thats fine as no-one is forced to flash their phone, are gonna be screwed.Im pissed for them, not so much for myself but for the people that will be affected.I myself will be sticking to XDA as always but come on...

Maybe its a good thing cos my grandad needs a new phone anyway and the bigger icons will be just what he needs. Now i know what Im gonna get him for xmas
Optional or not. If disliked there are multiple launchers on the market to replace the factory one..beauty of Android.
LCD Density Changer and ADW Launcher is all you need.
Just change the DPI of your screen. 240 is WAYY too high for such a big beautiful screen. It's like running 800x600 on a 24" 1080P monitor. 190 is a lot nicer and more crisp. You can use Rom Toolbox from the market to achieve this. Root required.

My friend, I know you are new to the forums, but please take your time and use the Search Tool to find what you need. It's very simple...
Anyway, you can find everything you need in this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1171089

Cheers
PS: Remember to use the Search Tool and the Thanks button.
And if you're having problems, post in the thread in which you're using their software, or post in the Q & A section....someone will be along shortly to help you if you have problems.
Most importantly read read read.
I softbricked my Bionic 3 times the other day and spent the next 5 hours figuring out how to un brick it. Now I'm rooted/rommed and smiling.
Today I softbricked my Galaxy Tab twice... (Sprint/CMDA) but spent the next 3 hours reading reading reading and found the answers.
If you hit a snag, I can guarantee there is a fix already posted for your problem. You may not always find the right fix on the first try, but eventually you'll find it something that will work.
Don't forget
Backup your tablet with CWM or Titanium Backup. Also, look for the stock rom just in case you brick your device so you can go back and reload and try and start again. The first post in the developers section is an excellent resource when you start out trickin' your tab.

It will depend on wich are your preferences, and of course, your Tablet Model
Personally I use Overcome 10.1 Series, version 2.2.0... (you can find it in the Galaxy Tab 10.1 Android Development section)
This because it supports 3G and it also improved a lot the performance of my tablet.
If you want to overclock your device, I recommend you to use pershoot kernel. I overclocked mine and it worked fine, but I didn't see a huge difference, so I only overclock it when i play games.

I suggest you try not only just one Rom... since everyone has his own likes.
Try a few and then choose wich one you like more.
I agree with trying as many as you can. I'm wifi only and think u should flash galaxy task 10. It's based off 3.2 honeycomb and run adw launcher ex. Very smooth. Task11 that was just released has a few bugs still. Or you can try the cm9 kang.... its ICS but personally I don't feel it's stable enough for a daily driver.

I prefer Gtask10 to Overcome.
Wipe data, cache, davlik, then flash whatever next Rom you want to try.
Never try flashing one Rom over another w/out wiping. You'll just be asking for trouble.
The gtask 13 slim is silky smooth you might give that a try.

I go balls deep on the GalaxyTask rom. 13.1 is out and slimmed down. Flash the b00sted ICS theme after you allow the rom to boot fully and you will have one snappy device. Just remember to FOLLOW ALL DIRECTIONS IN THE OP. Seriously, it gets annoying reading his thread and seeing the same question over and over because no one read the instructions in his OP.

Two Questions

I'm on the fence with this device, I have a couple of questions about this one so if I could please get some help.
-Is there any ROMS out there that lets you either hide the nav bar, or change the size of it to get back some more screen size?
-With the 4.2.2 OTA update, supposedtly the LTE for T-Mobile is disbled but there is a work around for this to come back?
I appreciate the help. I'm coming from a Galaxy S2 by the way, so has anyone made this transition?
Yes to both questions...
Paranoid Rom! Or PACman both have options to hide the nav bar and use pre controls!
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I never did take the 4.2.2 OTA so can't help you there. But check out Paranoid Android who are the pioneers of Pie, which expands the desktop to hide the navbar completely. There are other popular ROMs (CM from what I hear) that have adopted this. As far as shrinking or resizing the navbar, any AOKP-derivative ROM or AOKP itself have that feature.
Just take a look around the dev forums, I'm sure you know most ROMs have their features listed on the 1st page. Welcome & have fun!
EDIT: "Pioneers Of Pie", haha
Thanks for the feedback.
I'm pretty sure the newer Nexus 4's come with 4.2.2 out of the box, so the work around for LTE will have to be done. I'll check out the ROMs to see the nav bar functions.

I want the one with the little bumps! I hardly ever put my GS2 on a hard surface directly, at work I always put my phone on a sticky note. So yea, if there is an "auto hide" function for the Nav bar, similar to hiding the Start menu in windows, I'm in.

A lot of roms, if not all have the navbar auto hide, and if you don't want the navbar there at all they have pie controls so you're covered there
If you can completely get rid of the nav bar (not auto hide), how do you go back or home? Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Well then forget navbar resizing and go straight for any ROM boasting Pie Controls. You get rid of the navbar and get a much slicker alternative--while I've personally been there done that & reverted to standard navbar, a lot of folks have tried Pie and never gone back
EDIT: Here's a nice huge example pic. Very aesthetically pleasing buttons that fade in with a simple thumb gesture & fade out.

few mods for stock rom

So yes, i,ve stated it in the title.
I'm using Frosty Jelly bean from past 2 weeks.
and trust me by far the BEST STOCK ROM ever you can even think of.
it is way toooooo quick and smooth.
After the first update, i,ve requested the dev to add few tweaks for the the update but Unfortunately, the dev thinks that no one, else than me and him using his rom.
And he has kinda abandoned the work.
So the reason why i am writing this post is to ask you guys that is there any way that i can add these few mods to that rom without an update from the dev's side.
1- enter instead of smiley face in keyboard
2- navigation bar customization
P.s i,ve already searched the forum :$ but couldn't find any thing similar to what i'm asking for here :$
Else trust me guys the ROM is way more quicker than the STOCK it self.

OK here's what you do buy swift key that will fix the keyboard to what you want
Search play store for nav bar customization it's for root phones and only cost. 99 cents but allows you to change size and things like that. No reason for the developer to add these things if you can with out any coding

I know installing applications will keep it stock but you know things implemented by default play safe role in the smoothness of the rom :/

1 - If I'm not mistaken the enter key is a .png inside /system/app/systemui.apk or /system/framework/framework-res.apk. Replace the png with whatever you want.
2 - Get frosty's source code, compile it and make sure it runs first. Next, get AOKP's github and cherry pick their navigation bar changes. Rebuilt, and see if it runs
Also, it's NOT A STOCK ROM anymore. It's still considered a custom rom. It DID NOT SHIP with the phone.
Well in this case it may be your only option as many of us just use the apps so we can have the option on all rom but at least the more you and I hat back and forth the longer this topic will be at the top I have stock non rooted but rooting it probably next week so I can flash an older base band and will be changing my nav bar with that app.
