Ok I have a droid x. I loved it at first but it did the automatic OS upgrade about a month ago now it's the biggest piece of sheet in the world. It is SOOOO slow, it constantly reboots and randomly shuts off when i'm using the media player in the gym, camera doesn't save half the pics, tons of issues. I'm familiar with putting new ROM"s on windows phone but what do you guys recommend for my droid x so I don't throw this thing thru the wall. Thanks for any help you all can offer me.
I'd suggest SBF'ing and giving GB another shot.

YES..
Berating is so much more helpful instead of offing a helpful suggestion.
Ok did the liberty v2 last night and love it so far. I think I downloaded too much stuff though. I have Rom toolbox, Rom manager, root browser, Titanium backup, Bootstrad for droid2. Ok what all do I need to keep?
what to keep
i would keep the Titanium backup and the ROM manager and the droid 2 bootstrap recovery out of the bunch you mentioned..............
just based on my experience with flashing ROMS, etc.
I am not an expert like some of the folks on here..........but I have learned much from reading, flashing ROMS, bricking the phone(s), SBFing to start over....etc.
Does it matter what stock firmware my Droid X has if I want to SBF? and also is that what you recommend if I want to put Liberty rom on it?
I would get gumy jar rom

Ok so I'm new to customizing Android. I had a droid Eris but i never did anything other than changing launchers and such, now i have the Droid 2 Global (in white ) and im feelin up for customizing it.
Just to give some history on myself i had an HTC Touch Pro and did alot of romming and stuff on it so im not a total noob. However, android is quite different from WM from what ive gathered.
So here's what i get... I've got it rooted using the z4root program and i have bootstrap recovery for it. From my understanding, to rom an android device you go to this custom recovery and (after savin a rom's .zip file to your sdcard) you flash the zip to the phone, bam new rom. (QUESTION 1) Now is there anything else i need to know about flashing a rom, like anything else i should do other than just flash the zip. i keep hearing things about wipe this and that and nandroid backups and such but dont fully understand all that so help there would be appreciated.
Now to more device specific questions (QUESTION 2) i keep hearing the term "sbf". from what i've gathered it has something to do with the stock rom (right?) and for the D2G we dont have this yet (also right?) and if i want to play it safe for now as i am indeed a newbie to this, i should wait until there is a D2G sbf to flash a custom rom just in case something goes wrong i can go back to it(also also right?)
(QUESTION 3) Also, i see a few roms floating around in the D2 forums, but only one (Droid 2 Global Stock, deodexed, busybox blah blah) actually says its for the D2G. Should i stray away from flashing any of the others because they might brick/not work with my phone? Also what does "deodexed" and "busybox" and terms like that mean? Are there similar terms i should familiarize myself with?
If you had the patience to read all that, i thank you. If you have the kindness to answer any or all of my questions, i thank you again! Any help you guys got is much appreciated
Short answer. No roms are available for the D2G as yet. I know someone who tried the fission rom with success but had a few bugs with it. For now, root works so you can remove all the junk motorola included(well I like them).
SBF is said to enable you to return your phone back to factory if it's messed up or I guess brick. Without this file, no devs are willing to brick their $500+ device right now.
And so the wait continues.
*Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong..
alright, that makes sense, i wouldnt want to either lol. you say you can remove junk by being rooted...how so? all ive been able to do rooted that i couldnt do unrooted is wireless tether and adblock lol.

download titanium back up and remove what you don't want better yet just freeze it instead..also be careful..some apps are not met to be removed.
No one has posted it yet so here it is released by p3droid on teamblackhat http://bit.ly/4588r

It's been posted many times....just hasn't been put in a new thread
Why everyone is going bananas over this is beyond me. It's virtually identical to the leak of a couple weeks ago. Still has bugs.
Anyone having problems with titanium backup? Its not working for me

I agree, so far the original rooted GB leak is working great for me. I see no reason to update at all. Looking at the thread over at mydroidworld it sounds like lots of people are having problems and going back to Froyo or the original GB leak. In fact it sounds like there's more issues with .588 than there are wtih .573.
how do i get the droid 2 bootstrap on the droid x?

Exactly the same as you got the Droid x bootstrap. Download it and install.
For those asking why everyone is switching and why you should switch, all the devs are making roms for the new one and not the old one. So unless you're happy with stock and blur, you may want to switch

Ahh yes, very good point. For now though I'm satisfied with stock & blur. Just happy to have everything working and plan on leaving it alone for a bit.
I have some questions and comments on the rooted 2.3.3
First off, I'm still new both to android and the droid x, the community has been amazing at help and knowledge.
I was able to update to the new 2.3.3 rooted version after a bit of trial and error with sbf, droid 2 bootstrap and droid x bootstrap, and everything else too. The only thing I did right the first time was download the needed files.
I bootlooped many times.
I finally got it right by taking my current setup (2.2.1 rooted, running apex 1.4.1), sbf' ing to stock, rooting and replacing my droid x bootstrap backup, installing droid 2 bootstrap and making another backup, deleting and un installing droid x backup, making a titanium back up, then wiping data cache, flashing all 3 zips from tbh then restoring data and apps.
I think.
I think that's the right way, took me many tries to get it right. Like I said I'm new.
I do know older roms wouldn't work, like my apex 1.4.1 - it just put me in a boot loop. So did trying to restore a droid x bootstrap backup using droid 2 bootstrap. No good. Think phone hung up on extract in cwm recovery that time. It was a mess trying to get it right.
I learned a bit though.
What I'm wondering now is how long before a blur rom with no bloat but blur media functionality?
And why drop box and root explorer keep force closing, hell adw launcher has force closed too.
Any ideas or suggestions are welcome, I could do without any judgments or criticisms though. Heh.
thank you droid x community

That's one of the few problems I didn't have. I had put the new 2.3.3 on then the next day had to start over for the rooted one.

I've done trashed my wife's phone twice tonight. I've managed to get it back to normal again both times. I'm done messing with it. I need some direction please?
Right now, it has the latest ROM from the OTA updates from Verizon.
Everything I try to put on it seems to brick it
Do I need to update the radio?
Do I need to install the lag fix?
Which ROMs are current for this thing?
I just need something clean. A slimmed down stock ROM would work well, too. She just wants better battery life, and for the damned stuttering to go away.
Any help is sincerely appreciated.
Thanks!
wrong section
download a new launcher, either go launcer ex or launcher pro plus. that should get rid of the stuttering (i'm assuming she meant stuttering from navigating the home screen and such)
do the typical things to reduce battery usage
-turn off wifi
-turn off data when not being used
-lower brightness
-properly calibrate battery by letting it empty and charging, while turned off, to full a couple of times before using.
Okay. Wrong section. Can we move it please?
And from Japots suggestions, should I take that as, don't root and put a new ROM on it?

Not if you don't know what you're doing. Do his suggestions first then read up some guides on here, Android central and rootzwiki to learn what you are doing first.

I'd like to think I know what I'm doing. I've rooted my Tbolt and flashed it more times than I can count.
I rooted the Fascinate two months ago and flashed a new ROM (can't remember which). It was acting funny so I wanted to put another ROM on it. I tried flashing Espresso and something went horribly awry.
Is there not a simple way to update the ROM on the Fascinate like there is on the Tbolt using something like Clockwork?

Exactly which roms did you flash, if you went from Stock, and then went to espresso that might be your problem, since Espresso needs Clockwork version 4 or higher.
It was Community ROM TSM I think?
Here's what I need. A basic, ROM. Even the stock tweaked and stripped down. That would be just fine. Any suggestions?

I want to flash a custom ROM onto my DX, but I'm pretty new to the game. I've rooted, and have installed ROM Manager, and Titanium backup, etc, but am a bit gun-shy about going the custom ROM route, mostly due to inexperience.
I see that CMx and Liberty are the popular ROMs for DX, but I'm not sure which is the better one to go with. It seems that CMx is feature-packed, but has battery issues. Is this true? Is there a stock Android ROM for DX out there?
Also, it seems like in some cases, like with CMx, that you have to downgrade to an earlier firmware version first. Is this still the case with DX, and is it common for flashing any DX custom ROM?
Thanks,
Mike
Check my sig sir. I recommend using that guide.
And CM7 or MIUI (Use wizards defy 2 build.)
Jubakuba, your sig link isn't working

Rom flashing is a completely safe and reversible process. Before you begin flashing roms though, familiarize yourself with the SBFing process.
Cm7 doesn't necessarily have battery issues, it just doesn't get as much batter life as roms such as Vortex and Liberty. Cm7 is probably as close to AOSP as you will want to get.
You DO NOT have to downgrade for Cm7. You can, but it is not recommended unless you want to run the official nightlies (which aren't as good as the unofficial nightlies).
When you begin your foray in to rom flashing remember to always use Droid 2 Bootstrapper and never use Droid X Bootstrapper.
Sorry, I have no Idea why that darn thing isn't accepting BB code...
But either way, copy and paste will work. Or here's the link.

It may seem slightly daunting...
But if you're anything like me...
Just jumping on in really does make it easier.
I promise you if you follow my tutorial...It isn't like most tutorials.
Remember doing the very basic PB&J tutorial in school?
Where you had to say every single step...
Get bread.
Open jar.
Dip knife in jar...blablabla.
That's how I based my tut.
It's very easy to follow!
Roms
I have tried MIUI So on and so forth. Im privy to using liquid smooth roms. For the X. http://liquidsmoothroms.com/node/1
Quick follow on question, I noticed there's a Droid X bootstrap recovery app in addition to the droid 2 one. Should I still stick with the droid 2 ones according to the guide?
Thanks again,
Mike
Whoops, sorry just reread the earlier comment about avoiding the DX bootstrap. Never mind...
So, I installed Liberty 3.0, and have been very happy. More stable, faster, longer battery life. Wish I did this months ago. Went from hating my DX on a daily basis to loving it again. It's like a new phone.
The only problem now is that Verizon's pushing out their latest update, and I don't want it. Last thing I want to see is Blur on my phone again. Is there a way to disable this update?
Don't know if Liberty take OTA verizon update, would think it would be disabled. But on stock ROM freeze updater in titanium would prevent the OTA. I just did it last week as I didn't want the latest OTA reminder continuously popping up until I know how it panned out.

It's just listed as "updater 2.3.3", right? Just want to make sure I freeze the right thing.

I just got root back after taken the 621 update months ago. I use the Magic MD5 Root 2.3.4 for D2, R2D2, D2G, DX (no milestone SBF) and 2.3.5 for DX2
worked great, very easy to get rooted. Now I am looking to go back to a custom rom. I was using liberty before updated. Any suggestions on which is the best rom. I have put titanium back up on, rom manager and liberty tool box. Going to make a nandroid backup and back up apps.
I want a fast and smooth rom.
looking for rom that stays on 621

I a really looking for something that stays on 621, which roms will work with out sbfing. If I need to I will sbf to later build. Also can I now sbf back to what ever I like since I am rooted.
Thanks
guess there are no Dx users left

Do your reading. Root has nothing to do with your ability to sbf. Once you're on 621, you're on it for life. There is no going back. Only the choice between 621 and 604 Milestone. This information has been out for months.
Your post is bad. Go back and watch the You Are A Noob on XDA Developers. You aren't looking for advice, you want someone to cater to you so you don't have to do it yourself. Check your attitude.
I've only needed to make 10 posts in the nearly two years that I've come to this forum for information. I had to recover my account password to tell you how annoying you are.

This is correct. Once on 621 you cannot go back to any previous versions. Probably the best ROM out there is Wiz's MIUI. Everything works and battery life is stellar.
