Maybe this is something people already knew, but I just found out by accident! Open the video player, start playing a movie and hit the Power/Lock button. Up to this point I assumed the lock symbol referred to the screen lock that happens when you power back on - NOPE, it's so you don't goof and screw up the movie you're watching!
Ironic thing is, I spent about 20 minutes early tonight looking for just this feature before giving up! This phone just keeps getting better and better!

Thanks man, that is helpful for when I show people my screen with avatar, they always **** it up lol
It also works when you have your camera going, like if you are recording video or something. Found that out on accident
Thats pretty cool thanks for the tip.
I was watching a video and the controls stooped working. I thought it was a bug like in a YouTube app on Hd2, but then saw the lock symbol a d decided to press power button, very neat! Lol

Lock
I noticed that when watching a review on Android Central. Don't watch many movies but helps with long videos on YouTube.
it also allows you to not have the screen go to sleep while watching a movie if you have to pause for more than your screen timeout alloted time
Nice, just added this to the sticky... can't believe I did not discover this !
accidentally discovered this feature this morning too!
Thanks for the tip!
I also found this with the camera, but had no idea what it was for. Nice to know!!!
Not sure if this has already been addressed? I am looking for a App or some sort of control on my tablet, so that when I am watching videos it locks out the screen. My daughter is almost 1 year old, and likes to watch Mickey Mouse on my tablet. The issue is, she likes to hold my tablet, and ends up turning off Mickey. I wanted to be able to disable the touch screen, or have a certain area to activate the touch screen again. Not sure if there is a app like this? Thanks for any help!

I'm pretty sure mx player has an option on screen that allows you to lock it down while playing, I also find it to be a very nice, straight forward player that runs all my files nicely.

More than that I've been searching for an app that turns off the display completely while hooked up over hdmi. That plus Ps3 controller = replacing the wii in my bedroom. Ha
Is this real life?
Hi,
My screen turns off after about 30 seconds when I watch Youtube or a Plex video. Do you know how I can fix this problem? Thank you.
David
I am curious i have a hp extreme slate 7, I plugged in the hdmi cable to watch movies on my tv and it works flawlessly however i am wondering if there is a way to shut off the tablet screen playing video while watching a movie on the tv? I thought it would be a good idea if it could do that but upon thinking about it more I dont think that it will because you have to shut down the touch screen. Please let me know if there is anything already on this subject or ideas. I have a usb keyboard and gamepads to actually navigate the websites and stuff if the screen is off just havent found anything on it yet. Thank You
There's an app called second screen which has an option to turn the backlight off, the touchscreen still works but it's a lot less distracting.
I have noticed an issue with the new 2019 Fire HD 10 tablet when using the Youtube app. While watching a video the screen randomly goes black like the screen timed out but the sound continues. Also if you use the power button to lock the screen while watching a Youtube video, the screen turns off but the sound continues. I've tried this on two different 2019 HD 10 tablets with the same result. My old Fire HD 8 2017 does not show this issue. Has anyone else noticed this issue or have a solution?
I've already contacted support about the issue with no fix. This is actually the reason I've tested it with a second device.
The screen timeout is set for 2 minutes but it randomly turns off in 2 minutes or longer, or sometimes doesn't turn off and works normally. It seems like most of the time it doesn't recognize a video is playing at some point and turns the screen off while leaving the video playing and you hear the sound.

I'm sure I could turn screen timeout off in order to force the screen to stay on but that's not a fix. I would be more likely to damage the screen by forgetting to manually turn it off at times. Also, that wouldn't fix the issue with when I want to lock the screen using the power button and the video continues to play.

Yes it seems to not have the issue. I did have to turn background play off to avoid the power button lock, continued play. It's strange because that could be the issue with the original Youtube app but it shouldn't have background play since its not a premium account. Nor do I see an option to turn background play off in the original app if it was on, only the Pip on/off option.
The other issue is getting the Youtube Vance to show in my kids Freetime profile. I havent found a simple way besides a folder app which shows all apps.
