[Q] Home button has stopped working after rooting - Nook Touch General

I rooted my NST this morning but decided it was not for me. I restored it back to factory and then upgraded the to the latest firmware. Now, my home button no longer brings up the menu.
The home button appears to still be alive. When the nook is asleep, it says Press the n button below to wake up your NOOK - pressing the button does wake up the nook. When the Nook is awake I can hit the home button 4 times and it puts it to sleep.
Here's what I've done today:
I rooted with noogie.img.gz originally, then I tried touchnooter
To restore I used n2T-Recovery_0.1 to restore to factory
I then upgraded the firmware to 1.1.0 by transferring the .zip from B&N via USB
Please help!
Edit: The home button was not functioning correctly before I updated the firmware. I upgraded to 1.1.0 with the hope that it'd fix it.

Not sure why it would not be for you - rooting does nothing but add extra functionality the original functionality remains,

First, noogie does not root your Nook - it is a bootable SD image that allows you to back it up - make sure to back up the whole physical drive not just a partition (learned that one the hard way).
Before trying to restore anything back it up now - then in case you really mess things up you will at least have an image with your serial and other device specific info.
Then since it is rooted you may try this application which allows you to map the N button to your choice :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1289894
That may let you reset it and you may find you like it rooted and keep it that way.
If that doesn't work try to restore the second n2T recovery image
failing that ask the owner of that thread for help.

Thanks for that response.
What I meant to say was that I used noogie to mount the Nook and then I replaced uRamdisk (and I first made sure to make an image of the Nook so that I could always restore it).
Since my original post, I reset the Nook using the L+R buttons and it has restored all functionality of the home button. Once again I have a fully functional Nook, albeit an unrooted one. I'll try rooting again soon because I'd still love the use of the Kindle app.

Help please, asap!!!

I previously updated my phone with the update.zip. It worked for a while and then started giving me grief. I backed up the SD card and then tried the simple root. After a few tries, it appeared to be successful. I formatted my SD card and then replaced the backed up files. I then backed up my phone with Titanium backup.
Here is where the trouble lies: I powered down the phone and held the volume down/camera/power button until it booted into ClockworkMod Recovery. I selected "wipe data/factory reset" and pressed the home key. The screen went black but the led stayed on and the keys on the bottom stayed lit up. It stayed like that for at least 10 minutes. I tried pressing buttons, powering on/off, nothing. Finally I did a battery pull. After the battery pull it allows me to boot into ClockworkMod Recovery, but won't let me reboot or anything. Anytime I make a selection, it goes to a black screen.
Now what? I'm freaking out here!
This has got to be a troll right? You don't use the home key to make your selections. The home key MAKES the screen go black, that's what it does.
You should be using the camera button to make your selections.
No troll, I sincerely thought that you used the home screen to select. I'll try the camera button now. Thanks for the info!
my guess is he's on stock recovery... not clockwork
I was trying to do a factory wipe. It is my first time to root a phone and use CMW. The camera button did the trick. Thank you!
If memory serves me correctly you do use the home button to make a selection with stock settings.
OP you may want to just use the Samsung utility to flash back to Stock EB13. After that you can root or do whatever you like.
I also used the update.zip to start with, and even though I didn't have any of the serious bugs that we have seen. I went ahead and flashed it back stock anyways and noticed an improvement.
You should be able to find a link to the samsung tool here, I'm sure its still on a mirror.
If not let me know.
Nate

HELP PLEASE!! Messed up :(

I was in ROM Toolbox, went to 'Icon Changer', and installed a new battery icon. Now my Android system will not display any notification bar or soft buttons.
It backed up the files before I installed but I have no idea how to access that backup!
Please help. Very much appreciated!
If you have a recent nandroid back-up i'd restore that. Not really sure where RomToolbox stores it's backups tho.
Just realized my Nexus will not boot into recovery. I am in much more trouble than I thought I'd ever be. It gets stuck at the Google logo.

Connect it to a computer then from bootloader select recovery. If you're currently stuck at google screen press and hold power button as long as it takes to turn it off then press both volume buttons as it turns back on.

It only gets stuck when I try to enter recovery, If I turn off/on normally it's fine (without status bar or soft buttons). I'll try what you said though.
NOoooooooooo.... Factory reset did not restore the status bar and soft buttons. Now what?!?!
If factory reset didn't work and you can't access the recovery I imagine the next step would be to flash a stock image. Search for how to do that, I haven't done much research on the nexus phones

Its a bit extreme but you could try restoring to a virgin image using Nexus Root Toolkit
Get the image here https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#nakasi
And the tool here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766475
Everything is working now. So relieved. Thanks so much. I was watching a YouTube video of how to do it the very long way (d/l'ing the sdk, etc), and this right here saved me much time.
THANK YOU!!!!!!:good:
Glad it saved you some time

[Q] Nook Simple Touch - Bricked!?

Instead of studying for my exams, I decided to try to root my new Nook Simple Touch.
Not very cleverly, I use a guide from the site lifehacker. Since that moment, my ereader has been blocked on the initial page : "read forever your nook is starting up" for about an half hour.
Panic-strucken, I went all around the web looking desperately for a solution.
Finally I tried a guide that can brought me to factory data (THIS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1475613)
It worked and brought me the initial configuration. I logged in and... "Sorry we're having trouble setting up your nook. please shutdown the device and try again"
I don't know what to do.
Now I am paralized and desperate.
I'm so sorry, but I was not able to find anything on this site. Please, help me
Edit: Now it says
Restart required :
Your Nook encountered a problem that requires a system restart .
I restart system again and again but not solved problem;
Did you first make a backup before attempting to root?
What firmware version did you have on your nook before rooting?
Since your nook is new it is likely that you had FW 1.2
For FW 1.2 only tinynoot or NookManager can be used to root.
Have you tried a factory reset:
Power off the nook - hold down the power button (rear of nook)
When you have the msg 'your nook is off', then power on,
Quickly place the nook on a flat surface and press and hold the two lower page turn buttons.
Keep pressing...do not release....your fingers will be sore by now...
A msg will eventually come that asks if you want to do a factory reset
You can let go of the two page turn buttons, and press the 'n' button
Another msg asking to confirm, again press the 'n' button.
It will now attempt to restore your nook.

[Q] K1 power button not working in Rceovery mode (only) after ransomware attack

I just returned my phone to stock, everything passed but I fell into a bootloop. So did the usual and go into recovery to do a factory wipe and try again but the power button you use to select factory wipe doesn't work. The physical button actually works cause I can power on my phone...

I have exactly the same problem with my Lenovo K1. I updated it a year ago to ICS ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1798856 ) . It was rooted and worked wonderfully! Yesterday I caught the ransomware 'Android Defender' which disabled all and any functionality. I booted into recovery mode but the power button does NOT react as 'select' button although it works just fine for power on and off. I select a function and press [power] an the first line becomes the selected. pushing it again just flashed the screen. But pressing it long turns the K1 off.
I updated some time ago to JB. To clean things up I loaded K1_CM10_JB_Starter_v2.zip ( http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/articles/374282/20120816/lenovo-ideapad-k1-jellybean-jro03h-cm10-rom.htm ) onto the machine and it installed nicely. I needed recovery to install google play and problem consists. I used the nvflash method to get back to stock (rooted) so that I could go from there ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1560441 ). And all is back to 2011 -well, except that I now can't go directly into recovery but when I do I have the exact same problem.
So, whatever it is (and I'd like to blame the ransomware since it misbehaves since then), it intercepts the short power push in recovery, but does NOT affect normal Android functionality while in the OS nor the long push in recovery mode.
I am -needless to say- desperate since I can have Jelly Beans without google play (needed the recovery console to load the zip) or stock 3.2.1.
None of the options are good options.
Can you help?

Did you ever find a solution to this?

Tab 4 SM T230NU Question

Hi to everyone, great forum love reading all the different Threads. I need some help trying to make a decision. I just recently bought a used rooted T230NU from a reseller that claimed that the Physical Home and Volume Buttons have been disabled by testers so they loaded an app or soft keys to give me use of those buttons. The unit is rooted I did check with root checker and Dom's Diagnostics, it currently has Super SU and Busy Box on it. The Volume up key was disabled physically because someone modified the toggle so it couldn't depress the switch which I have now resolved so toggle is good. When in diagnostics and checking keys I do get response from all buttons. Return registers as return, Volume up and Volume down register as up and down but the Recent key, Power button and Home all register as UNKNOWN thus they are all physically working. The unit also doesn't go into sleep mode after the allotted time it just shuts down if there is no interaction with the Tablet and the Power button does not bring it out, you have to hold power til it boots again. Hopefully this is enough info for my next question. I want to restore it back to the factory Rom because my wife is going to use it, will flashing it remap the keys to their original settings provided I can get it into Download mode for Odin or do you think my flashing it could potentially Brick the unit. Any advise would be grateful.
Thanks
John

Flashing the stock firmware with Odin should remap the keys to their original settings, although I can't guarantee it
