Help please, asap!!! - Epic 4G General

I previously updated my phone with the update.zip. It worked for a while and then started giving me grief. I backed up the SD card and then tried the simple root. After a few tries, it appeared to be successful. I formatted my SD card and then replaced the backed up files. I then backed up my phone with Titanium backup.
Here is where the trouble lies: I powered down the phone and held the volume down/camera/power button until it booted into ClockworkMod Recovery. I selected "wipe data/factory reset" and pressed the home key. The screen went black but the led stayed on and the keys on the bottom stayed lit up. It stayed like that for at least 10 minutes. I tried pressing buttons, powering on/off, nothing. Finally I did a battery pull. After the battery pull it allows me to boot into ClockworkMod Recovery, but won't let me reboot or anything. Anytime I make a selection, it goes to a black screen.
Now what? I'm freaking out here!

This has got to be a troll right? You don't use the home key to make your selections. The home key MAKES the screen go black, that's what it does.
You should be using the camera button to make your selections.

No troll, I sincerely thought that you used the home screen to select. I'll try the camera button now. Thanks for the info!

my guess is he's on stock recovery... not clockwork

I was trying to do a factory wipe. It is my first time to root a phone and use CMW. The camera button did the trick. Thank you!

If memory serves me correctly you do use the home button to make a selection with stock settings.
OP you may want to just use the Samsung utility to flash back to Stock EB13. After that you can root or do whatever you like.
I also used the update.zip to start with, and even though I didn't have any of the serious bugs that we have seen. I went ahead and flashed it back stock anyways and noticed an improvement.
You should be able to find a link to the samsung tool here, I'm sure its still on a mirror.
If not let me know.

after rooting, cant enter recovery mode to nandroid backup

I have spent the last few hours searching. I flashed the recovery-ra-heroc and let it set for a few minutes, reboot recovery, and it just sits on the black screen with "HTC" I remove the battery, restart the phone while holding down the home button (yes, holding it down firmly, lol), and it just gives me the option to clear storage on my phone. I am really wanting to get a rom on my phone, speed it up. Yes, I used the search function on this forum. I really dont want to go back to the RUU and lose everything on my phone. If anyone has any suggestions, I would be extremely greatful!!!
I would try rooting it again and follow the process step by step. Sounds like something wasnt done in the process.

Sounds like you should try to reflash recovery. I think you are only getting into fast boot. You aren't holding any other key with Home are you?
That sometimes happens to me...i just click on the green/call button to cancel n when the htc screen comes up i push Home n End...n hold it down..sometimes let go of it n push them again and it'll work...not sure, but i think this just happens with the newer recovery image.
no, not holding any other keys. I rooted a while back with the chuckrhizco (or whatever?) method, and had no issues. went back to stock to get ota update. I still have the old recovery image, think I will just try to flash that one.
just had an issue withthe other recovery image. Flashed the 1.2.3. and it worked, nandroid backing up now!

Cannot boot to recovery from phone

I had the nandroid recovery rom working perfectly, then I flashed the Eris based 2.1 rom (did a backup with nandroid prior to it), however, when I went to flash Fresh 2.0b on top of that, I noticed that holding the home key whilst booting did not boot into the recovery rom. Currently the only way for me to get into it is with adb reboot recovery.
This problem still persists after doing a wipe of the Eris based, and a flash of Fresh 2.0b. It's not a huge deal (I only go into it when flashing, and that's when by a computer anyway) but just knowing I can't is somewhat irritating.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
this may be obvious, but you're not holding the HOME button after the screen turns on, are you?
you have to hold the home button WHILE the phone is still off and then press the power button, so basically press the home button before the power button.
if that is what you did, try reflashing your recovery image. 1.6.2 is out.
I think I tried it both ways, will try again. I hope it's not something as stupid as that, I'd feel like a tard
I did install the newest to see if that would make a difference.
Edit: Yeah, holding first worked. Could've sworn I did that. Maybe when I had the USB plugged in it didn't like that? Oh well, thanks and now I shall stay quiet for I feel stupid.

[Q] how to get into recovery mode on D2

I am trying to do an nandroid back up. The instructions say to power off, then hold the "Home Key" and the power button untill you see the triangle.
I am holding the picture of a house next to the menu key. Is that the correct key?
My unit just turns on normally even if I am holding mentioned key, which is the wrong key cause it should not have power until the phone is on and unlocked.
Thanks for help.

On the Droid 2 you have to go through a different way.
1. Make sure you have Koush's bootstrap app for the Droid 2.
2. Make sure you are bootstrapped via Koush's app.
3. Reboot to recovery through Koush's app.
You navigate menus with the volume buttons. You select with the camera button, and you go back with the power/lock button.
you can also utilize the keyboard arrows, use ok to select and delete to back up.

Ok, got it from the Market and it installed. I started it and did not know what to do, so I hit the first button, then the second button, then went to Backup/Restore and chose backup.
It is working as i type this.
Thank you so much
yes you would select backup. Once you do this it will backup to you backup folder on your sdcard. If you were to need to go back, you would utilize the restore option and select whichever backup you wanted to use.
if your phone is boot looping or anything to get into recovery:
-start up phone
-let the phone go to the bootscreen (the droid eye screen after the M logo)
-pull the battery out while in the bootscreen
-after a few seconds replace battery and boot up phone
-phone will boot into clockwork recovery

Good advice. I believe there is a flag that gets set when you shut down the phone, and it only gets reset when you successfully boot. That way, if you boot loop, when you try to boot again it goes to recovery.
This also manifests itself sometimes when you flash a rom. Everytime you boot, it first goes into clockwork recovery, which is annoying, but fixable. This problem occurs because you need to bootstrap again which allows the flag to get reset when the OS loads.
only bootlooping when connected USB
I dont know what happened I simply had my phone attached to my pc in USB mode (after transferring music to the sd card via "media sync") and when I switched to 'charge only' and attached my head phones, my phone went into a boot loop. i unplugged USB cord and bootloop stopped... anyone run into this at all? kinda frustrating since now i apparently can now longer attach to my pc.
any help would be greatly appreciated

32b, home button and menu button acting weird

First off, i would appreciate any help. I've had my girlfriends phone rooted and running gingeryoshi rc4 for the past few months. She dropped her phone from about a foot high and it turned off on her. When she turned it back on, it booted into recovery.
I'm running amon recovery on it. I've tried running a recent nandroid, and it say it completes, but when it restarts, it boots back into recovery... I've tried fresh installs of different roms, other nandroids, partitioning sd card, and clearing everything. All the installas say they work, but they boot back into recovery.
Now, what I notice that is weird, is that when you have to confirm your actions in amon recovery, and you have to press the home button to confirm, i dont have to press it, it does it automatically. But then, sometimes it doesn't do it automatically and pressing the home button doesn't confirm that action, but the menu button will confirm the action. Other times the menu button will do what is supposed to do, and abort its task.
Oh, and I was able to boot up once after a fresh install of gingeryoshi rc7. But the setup wizard crashed and there was never any launcher or home screen, but there was a status bar and lockscreen. Sometimes I think it boots straight into recovery because the home button is stuck? But it's actions don't make it seem stuck
Sorry for making it so long, any help would be greatly appreciated... thanks.

HELP PLEASE!! Messed up :(

I was in ROM Toolbox, went to 'Icon Changer', and installed a new battery icon. Now my Android system will not display any notification bar or soft buttons.
It backed up the files before I installed but I have no idea how to access that backup!
Please help. Very much appreciated!
If you have a recent nandroid back-up i'd restore that. Not really sure where RomToolbox stores it's backups tho.
Just realized my Nexus will not boot into recovery. I am in much more trouble than I thought I'd ever be. It gets stuck at the Google logo.

Connect it to a computer then from bootloader select recovery. If you're currently stuck at google screen press and hold power button as long as it takes to turn it off then press both volume buttons as it turns back on.

It only gets stuck when I try to enter recovery, If I turn off/on normally it's fine (without status bar or soft buttons). I'll try what you said though.
NOoooooooooo.... Factory reset did not restore the status bar and soft buttons. Now what?!?!
If factory reset didn't work and you can't access the recovery I imagine the next step would be to flash a stock image. Search for how to do that, I haven't done much research on the nexus phones
Sent from my mx2
Its a bit extreme but you could try restoring to a virgin image using Nexus Root Toolkit
Get the image here https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#nakasi
And the tool here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766475
Everything is working now. So relieved. Thanks so much. I was watching a YouTube video of how to do it the very long way (d/l'ing the sdk, etc), and this right here saved me much time.
THANK YOU!!!!!!:good:
Glad it saved you some time
