Connecting to MS Exchange - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

I get a warning that my IMEI and other data will be send to Samsung and shared if I use the app to connect to Exchange. Would you do it?

Just select manual configuration you won't get this warning, this is what I did and it worked for me

Cannot connect with current connection

When I try to sync I keep getting the message "Cannot connect with current connection settings" But it allows me on the internet. What settings (if any) should I use?

are your settings correct??
(we need to know which ROM you sue aswell as your exchange provider)
Rom is Dutty's WM 6 medium
Settings I double checked
Exchange provider is 4smartphone
restart your device...
as in a soft reset...
There is a list of ActiveSync error codes/messages on the MS web site and the ones that relate to your error message are:
0x85020006 - Cannot connect with current connection settings.
To change your connection setting, tap Settings. This error code is typically caused by not having a valid network or modem connection set up. Check your connection settings, and then try to synchronize again.

Go to Start | Programs | ActiveSync, then when Activesync loads, go to Menu | Options and you'll see the Exchange Server sync details - tap on Settings | Next, then the Advanced button and you'll see what connection the server is configured to use....it should be "Internet". If it's not, then you probably need to re-configure the whole Exchange Activesync set up.
EDIT: ....assuming Walshieau's suggestion of a soft reset doesn't sort it
HTH,
Mark.
I did a soft reset as walshieau suggested, it didn't fix it.
Double checked the stetting to make sure it is on "internet" as Mark Crouch suggested, it didn't fix it.
i found after about 20 hours, this started happening to me too. only outlook though. IE worked fine.
quitting activesync then rechecking my email fixed it.
even though that isn't what this thread stated, it gave me the idea thanks Mark Crouch
Any more follow up with this? I've been having the same issue, with no resolution yet.
I just gave up and am now using opera for the internet. It bugs me though that I can't just figure it out.
Got it...
First make sure the settings are correct for your device.
The connection that must be used is "the internet" not your 3G connection.

If you receive the error messege "Cannot connect with current connection" disconnect your USB cable. For me the error was caused by active sync

He might mean, go to:

T-mobile internet settings

Does anyone know the internet settings for T-mobile, phone is working OK
(internet, email etc) but I need to manually enter settings into my TomTom
I've tried T-mobile direct but they only send settings direct to phone via text link.

If your internet settings are working look at your own configuration under
settings - connections - connections - manage existing connections.
But I never had to enter those settings into Tomtom. It works as it is. I use T-Mobile in Germany.
Thanks for reply. I've tried looking in manage existing connections but the password is shown as **********. I've got Traffic services on my Tomtom that requires internet access via phone. Everything worked OK until I updated to mobile 6.5, entering old settings does'nt work

at least here in germany the following account has to be used:
User: internet
Password: t-d1
if it doesn´t work you might have a different password in your country.
Try to google for it ;-) I´ve done it as well
Hard reset phone three times and reset Tomtom back to factory defaults and its working. Thanks for taking the time to help

Unable to send attachments via SMS

Hi all,
Got my HD2 yesterday and have been busy doing the various tweaks, regedits etc and so far so good.
However ive run into my first real problem. I cannot bluetooth data to my wifes phone and i also cannot send sms with audio or video attachments.
I get a dialling connection popping up advising that its trying to dial from "mobile" and i have an option to "dismiss" but the message keeps popping up until i finally get a message saying that the original sms failed to send.
I can send normal sms and emails fine. Just sms with file attachments fail me.
Any ideas?
BTW im with o2!
Sms with file attachment, do you mean maybe MMS?

LMAO yeah sorry!
Not got my brain engaged today!
its probably something to do with the MMS settings. check with your network make sure they're correct. Its rare, but sometimes a network will change settings and HTCs defaults will be out of date.
As for bluetooth, try pairing the devices using a simple 4 numerical password, complex passwords can be incompatible with some devices. Also try reversing which device is host/visible....I hate bluetooth sometimes
Think i have the settings from another site.
Now ive no idea where to go on my hd2 to input all the settings?
Anyone give me a pointer as to where i configure the mms?
Tut tut, no-one ever reads the manual anymore
One trick you could try (assuming you can connect to the internet over the phone) is update the database of settings on the phone. Scroll over to the settings menu > Wireless Controls > Data Connection, Make sure you have the correct country and network selected already. If so click Menu > Update Database> Update Database. Reboot your phone and see if it works.
Ok assuming that didn't work and you still having MMS problems you can check your MMS settings by scrolling over to the SMS/MMS menu > All Messages>Menu>Settings>Options>Menu>MMS Server. Select the server you want to use or make a new server, you can input your MMS settings in there.
I have the following config in my mms settings for o2:
Server name: 02 active MMS
IP address: 193.113.200.195
Port No: 8080
Server address: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
Connect via; o2 active
Send limit: 300KB
WAP Version: WAP 2.0
When i try and send an mms the following happens:
Popup box saying:
Cannot connect
Dialed:
Cannot connect for an unknown reason (then loads of other txt)
and then 2 options at the bottom a blue "settings" link and a "dismiss" option.
When i click on settings it takes me to a connections menu where i the following options:
My work network:
Add a modem connection
Add a new vpn server connection
setup my proxy server
Manage existing connections
and then 2 tabs at the bottom for tasks and advanced.

I've got exactly the same settings as you, and it just worked for me. Check with O2 - they may have a problem at their end, or something switched off for you.
Well ive got a 16gb card coming this week so once i get that im going to do a hard reset and set everything up properly (just been messing so far) and then see what happens. If not then ill phone o2.
I forgot to mention that i inputted those settings but in the "connect via:" drop down menu i have no option for "o2 active"
I just have work network, mms network, home network etc.

I don't really know what to say. I just followed his instructions word for word, and it worked fine for me. Where are you having trouble? At the first instruction, or part way through? How far do you get before you get something you can't do?
When i click on data connection i get the same error msg pop up saying "cannot connect"
then options to dismiss or a blue settings link
Ok now sorted. I deleted all my mms settings, went to data connection under wireless controls, made sure it was set to UK and o2 post pay and then made sure auto configuration was selected.
It updated my settings, just rebooted and tried an mms and all working fine!

Okay, this sounds like it's a data connection issue, rather than an MMS issue, as clicking "Data connection" will simply try to turn it on (if it's off).
Try this and let me know how you get on...
Go to settings tab, click Menu, All Settings, Connections, Connection Setup.
Make sure that the correct country and O2 are selected and click OK.
See if you still have the same problem.
If you do, I suspect that you can't do this next step, but it's worth a try.
Go to settings tab, click Menu, All Settings, Connections, Connection Setup, Menu, Update Database, Update Database, Yes.
It should either tell you that your settings have been updated, or that you already have the most updated settings.
If it said they've been updated, go back to the country and provider screen, make sure it's the right selections and click OK.

Go to settings tab, click Menu, All Settings, Connections, Connection Setup, Menu, Update Database, Update Database, Yes.
I dont have that option under the menu. I just get:

Exit

Very strange - I don't know why that would be. It's a way to ensure that you have the latest settings for your provider, and obviously quite useful when you have connection issues.
Never heard of it not being available though. At least you got the problem sorted without needing it!

USB tethering

I did a search but got no definitive answer. I have a friend with a stock incredible and wants to know if he can use USB tethering and if so how?
Thanks
Either by pdanet, which is a free software that needs to be downloaded for the phone and pc, or mobile broadband connect, which is $20 a month for 2gb of data. It is a vzw service that can be found when you plug the usb in the computer. I would choose pdanet.
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
Thanks for the quick response...I assume you can use pdanet with a stock (non rooted) phone?

Yes. Nothing is required as far as mods to the phone is concerned. The "hardest" (which isnt that hard) part of pdanet is installing it on the pc. It takes some knowledge of computers but not much. It should take 10 min, if that.
The only other option for free tethering is root and installing wifo tether, which is not uab tether.

I don't remember the process for doing it, but you can edit the DUN settings in your phone to use your normal phone's 3g connection instead of the separate username/pass for broadband connect. In effect, this lets you USB tether using the mobile broadband feature, but using your existing unlimited data plan rather than an additional $20 one
edit: searched it for ya.
Step 1: reprogramming your phone
from your phone, dial ##pst
enter security code 000000
click "edit mode"
scroll down to Security
change the "S.IP DUN User Name" to "<your phone number>@vzw3g.com"
hit back
scroll down to "M.IP Default Profile"
change "DUN NAI" to "<your phone number>@vzw3g.com"
press menu, choose "Commit Modifications."
The phone will power cycle.
Step 2: Computer setup
Drivers: download and install VZ Access Manager from http ://www .vzam .net
don't run the program, you only want it for the drivers.
Next, plug your phone in to the computer. Let windows take care of the driver installation.
Per your version of windows, you'll need to set up a manual dial-up networking connection. Settings you'll need:
Phone Number: #777
Username: "<your phone number>@vzw3g.com"
Password: vzw
Step 3:
browse the internet.

I would suggest rooting and using the patched android-wired-tether app attached to the first post of this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=706602
It is patched to work with some of the newer HTC devices like the Incredible, EVO, Hero, Eris. I use it and it works well. I run a hydra kernel, but I believe it will work with the stock kernel.
before i got rooted i used easytether.. it was really simple. download it from the market to your phone and then it instructs you what software to download to your comp..and you are good to go!
move to general?

Again I appreciate your quick response. I will have him download and install pdanet and if needed I can help him install on pc.
Thanks again!!
Forgot to mention: my method doesn't require a rooted phone. All settings can be edited from stock. PDANet is nice, but it's not free (after the trial, all https sites become unavailable) and requires an additional service to run on the phone... I feel like the native tethering uses less resources and produces a more stable link. *shrugs*

You DO NOT need root to use that method. I used this method about two weeks before root was acquired. It works flawlessly and it just tags onto your normal data activity so you can't be charged for it.
I would advise using this method below rather than downloading a restricting app that disallows certain things (such as ssl or https) or paying for something like the "premium" pdanet that you can do yourself for free.
