Hi guys, does anyone else in the UK have an issue watching channel 4 (4OD) programmes via the YouTube app on our Acer A500? I keep getting the following message: "Not available in your country" and "Not available on mobile". The 4OD YouTube channel is part of my subscriptions and I get updates about new programmes being available via my Gmail. My country setting has always been UK and I've tried everything just to correct the said issue.Could anyone suggest a solution? Thanks

I have the same issue via t-mobile , conect ok via usb pc, who is your 3g service provider
I know in the UK, t-mobile class youtube as adult content. And by default the adult content lock is in place on everyones data service. If you phone t-mobile customer services they can remove this lock for you
I know that vodafone class practically ANY site as potential adult content and you have to get the lock taken off. Perhaps this is the case here too as suggested above? hope it's that simple mate.
Thanks for your help guys..
But I am in switzerland and I use my WiFi connection at home to connect.
Even then the youtube player gives an error.
My HD is not under any contract so I guess no one has locked any stuff on the phone.
The surprising thing is it logs on to my youtube account when I use account manager to sign in.
I have been playing aorund trying to find out the problem but success has eluded me till now..lets see if I find the problem I will post it here..
I have the same problem, am on a good wi-fi connection that works when I use Opera for browsing, but I get connection error with the default Youtube player. I have tried soft reset and removed last installed programs, no luck!
Anyone have a solution
Have you edited your proxy settings in Comms Manager so that you do *not* use a proxy to connect?
I had to do this so that i could use the youtube app on T-mobile.
Petrov.
Same problem on Orange UK, regardless of how I connect. It's been like that since I got it.

Thanks for your quick respond!
I have tried to delete all my connections and then set them up again (with no proxy), but still have the same problem. The strange thing is that everything worked when I got the phone.
Is there any connection settings in the Youtube application? I haven`t found any my self....
Petter
Hi,
install another youtube player. you can find another player here in the forum. it works.
I don´t have so much knowledge about this, but I had the same problem on my own. I think it is realated to the Flashplayer. So soon if i installed another youtube player, everthing from youtube works fine.

I had the same problem, tried several solutions with no luck. Started to use the other Youtube player, but as you say it`s not that good. The solution for me was to hard reset the device, and now everything works fine!
I am not sure, but I think maybe the problem was that I had installed several media players (TCMP, DivX, CP) and it became a conflict or something, after the hard reset I only have Core Player as media-software installed (+WMP) and all the other software as before the problem.
Good luck!
Petter
Thanx hard reset worker. my voice recorder software works now too thanx for the quick reply

confirmed, i spoke to a fairly knowledgable person in t-mobile support after i was having issues (he didnt even tell me to sod off when i said i wasnt using their firmware)
turns out on t-mobile they have switched to using a transparent proxy but the connection setup on the htc still puts one in, its enough to untick the proxy and youtube/windows live/activesync among other things start working. I havent managed to get skype going yet but i expected that to be blocked
default youtube player connection failed error message
I am having the same problems with my orange mobile contract. It worked for 2 weeks and im not sure what i did but its now giving me a connection failed error message. I cant seem to find any settings in the player or in comms manager. Im going to ring orange and see what they say.
Tronec, Did you get reply from Orange? I have same issue - Opera fine on WiFi and on "phone" but Youtube "Connection Failed"
I tried everything, never got past the error. Flashing a new rom fixed it, along with a whole load of other things.
Have the same problem. The hard reset didn't work for me. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
I have recently got my first windows phone on contract from T Mobile, it's a HTC HD2 and i cannot get it to stream anything ie.YouTube, BBC i-player. Is there anything i can do? Please explain simply as i am a newbie.
You will not be able to stream BBC iplayer due to the T-mobile servers being in Germany.
Copy right restricts this, because iplayer thinks you are based in Germany.

You need to turn off their proxy server.
Settings > Wireless controls > Menu > Connections > Manage existing connections > Proxy Settings (tab) > uncheck 'This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet'
Credit to ian_uk1975 for the above, tried to link to it but can't as I'm a 'new user' of only 3.5 years

Is this correct ?
it's correct that turning off the proxy will help your connection... as to the germany bit, that probably won't be a problem without the proxy set.
Hi there,
I have the same problem where I cannot use BBC's iPlayer on my HTC HD2. I'm on a T-Mobile contract and have unchecked the proxy box as suggested above but still doesn't work for me.
My HTC HD2 has Dutty's latest ROM (posted yesterday). Any other options available?
Thanks in advance.
does the proxy thing only effect a wifi connection or 3g/mobile connection too?
you need to login to your account page on tmobiles website and turn off the content filtering, this will fix it
hi
Forgot to mention that bit.
Yes, works fine with WiFi but not at all over T-Mobile 3G.
In fact the BBC website throws up this message:
"Sorry, that didn't work
Please switch to a Wi-Fi connection to play the programme.
Streaming BBC iPlayer programmes on a 3G connection is currently only available to users on the 3 netowrk and contract users on the Vodafone network."
Funnily enough it worked on a 1.66 ROM I installed a few days ago, so I am figuring that I can set it to work by changing an entry in the registry.
What I have done so far includes:
1. Unchecked proxy box as suggested above.
2. Changed the registry setting so that it looks like an HTC Touch HD etc instead of an HTC HD2
3. Tried Opera, Internet Explorer, SkyFire
Thanks in advance ...
Thanks. Just tried removing content filtering but still doesn't work :-(
Keep the suggestions flowing ... TIA
Incidently, YouTube works perfectly (both 3G and WiFi) ... Just iPlayer doesn't :-(
try the coreplayer / myplayer combo. that bypasses the no 3g checks. works really well over hsdpa
Hi,
Thanks for the suggestion. Can you clarify? What exactly will I need to install. Both coreplayer and mplayer? I can't seem to find the CAB files elsewhere on xda-developer ... thanks in advance ...
by the way, noticed some interesting registries under:
\HKLM\Software\Opera\Prefs\Trusted Protocols
mms 1,0,
rtsp 1,0,
vnd.youtube 0,0,\Windows\YouTube.exe
Any chance something needs to be added/changed in here?
I only ask this since YouTube works fine but iPlayer doesn't (a noob clutching at straws :-(

To make a long story brief, does anyone know of a hack that would fool a region protected app?
I downloaded the APK for the BBC I Player from mediafire and I opened it via Astro whilst connected to my UK proxy and also used a location spoofer app. When I tried to play content a message pops up saying it's only available in the UK. I then tried using my VPN account and got the same result.
Does anyone know of any way to make that app think i'm in the UK or is it impossible?
I did search XDA and as far as I can see is still an unresolved issue.
My 7.7 cannot load the following web page using WI-FI at home:
WWW.TVCatchup.com (when I type it into the address bar and press return)
I've also tried linking to the page froma the result of a google search but that doesn't work either.
I've tried several browsers but it always says "web page not available"
I can load the page using my laptop or Note so nothing wrong with my Internet connection.
I think this problem is related to my TVCatchup app not working for I also cannot load the iphone.tvcatchup.com page either.
I'm really stumped on this problem and would be grateful for any ideas
I have downloaded the Ping & DNS app from the Google Play store and used that to test TVCatchup.com and it could not Ping it and I've done a route trace to show where it failed.
I also Pinged Google.com and I attach my 7.7 screen shots to show the results.
So it seems my 7.7 is ok but there is a problem reaching TVCatchup
I would be grateful for any ideas where to go now.
Where in the world are you?
I believe Tvcatchup is UK only. Whne I first ran it , it identified my ISP (Virgin) and confirmed the service was available. Then went on to flawlessly stream to my wifi only Tab.

I live in the UK and I can use TVCatchup on my Note.
I attach the traces from my failed 7.7 and successful Note.
It does look like the trace fails when it reaches UK servers.
So my 7.7 not only cannot get the TVCatchup app from the Play store to work, but as can be seen from the attached pictures it cannot even access the TVCatchup website.
SUCCESS
I changed the router and that fixed the fault. It is strange that the original router worked with my laptop and Note but not the 7.7.
