Any Hack For Region Protected Apps? - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

To make a long story brief, does anyone know of a hack that would fool a region protected app?
I downloaded the APK for the BBC I Player from mediafire and I opened it via Astro whilst connected to my UK proxy and also used a location spoofer app. When I tried to play content a message pops up saying it's only available in the UK. I then tried using my VPN account and got the same result.
Does anyone know of any way to make that app think i'm in the UK or is it impossible?
I did search XDA and as far as I can see is still an unresolved issue.

Youtube problem

Hi,
I live in Turkey and unfortunatelly youtube is banned by the government. (and yes it is a shame for us) We can only enter youtube by changing dns settings or by using some certain sites such as ktunnel.com. Therefore, i am not able to enter youtube through youtube application on my hd. Is there any way to do that? I mean may be if i change some settings, i will be able to use youtube app. Any luck?
Thanks.

What I did when I was on vacation in China (where youtube is also blocked), was to use a VPN on my computer that connected to my workplace back here in Canada and connected my HD using ad-hoc wifi. You could also use activesync.
But these options all require the use of a host computer.
If you are using your carrier's data connection, perhaps the only way is to use some anonymous proxy like youhide.com to access m.youtube.com in Opera or IE and manually download the videos to view in TCPMP/Coreplayer.
Ideally, it would be best if you could connect to a foreign VPN directly through your HD. I'm not sure if there's any apps.. but this guy seems to have it going on WM5:

Anyways, good luck and hope that helps!
i solved the problem thank you very much!!
How did you solve the problem? Share it pls...

Purchase paid app without root

There are two ways to do it without root. Both of them require US (or other paid-app-available area) VPN.
Solution 1:
1) Remove your Google account from your tab.
2) Connect to VPN on your tab.
3) Re-add the Google Account under VPN connecting.
4) Open the Market (if it's running, stop it first) and you'll be able to purchase paid app.
Solution 2:
This solution requires one wired and one wireless network adapter on you computer.
1) Set a hosted wireless network on your computer. This makes your computer as a WiFi hotspot. It's easy to do this on Windows 7, you will find tutorial on Google. Your will see a virtual WiFi adapter after setup done.
2) Setup VPN connection on your computer. Share it with the virtual WiFi adapter.
3) Connect to VPN on your computer.
4) Connect your tab to the wireless network hosted by your computer.
5) Open the Market (if it's running, stop it first) and you'll be able to purchase paid app.
The main idea is to make sure your tab sends out the very first byte of your Google account information with a US IP. That's how Google identify your location. Your won't do that if just simply connect yo VPN on your tab because a US IP always comes after your tab communicate with Google server.
Hi karlarso,
Forgive the newbie question - but is there an issue with Samsung Tab's installing purchased apps via android app store? I haven't come across this. I know Samsung has their own (lame) app store...is Samsung forcing people to use the Samsung App Store instead? Can you use Android app store or Amazon android app store if you wanted, without having to root?

No, the Android market is completely open and available to Tab users, rooted or unrooted. Samsung does not force anything.
I have absolutely no idea what the OP is about or why anyone would ever need to use that procedure. Maybe it's something to do with non-US devices; its impossible to tell from the post.

Yes, it would have been nice if the OP elaborated on what it was for... I believe it's for those who imported the Tab and live in a country where access to paid apps is not available from the Market.

For example, China.
Great hint
Thank you so much, this worked perfectly!
I am an American living in China and I have not been able to get to many apps that were blocked and have not been able to pay for any app even if it did happen to show up in the Market. I had researched and tried many different things. For others that may be following in my footsteps, it seemed that an app called Market Enabler was specifically designed for this but it does not work on wifi only devices.
I tried what the original poster suggested (Option 1) and have now been able to see some apps that I could not before and have already purchased some that I could not.
Thank you very much.
Another work around
You can view paid apps in the market once you add a credit card to your Google checkout account. (the same Google account you are using on your phone).
I happened to make a payment through Google checkout and the next time I went to the android market on my phone it was showing me paid apps.
Hope this helps!
There are two other (similar) scenarios where you need this:
1) You want to buy a movie/book from google (service is only enabled for US)
2) You want to watch movies on Hulu/netflix
Further more for option two, I do think that an US socks proxy would do (or a spam sling - proxy with all ports open).
I don't think that it's transparent for the Xoom on the PC AP in which way the PC makes the connection to US.

[Q] Google Play and widgets won't runing with company proxies

Hi, I like the title, the company's wifi bind, the appropriate version of the opera to the Internet can be accessed using a proxy. But, unable to establish a wifi connection with Google Play or widgwets. Could you share the solution if there is?
thanks...
Use proxydroid. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.proxydroid&hl=en
doesn't work
Hi, this program doesn't work properly and i learned how to using ics with proxy but it doesn't work too. (in wifi menu, press wifi and manuel conf.) it's connecting AP but google play, ics default browser and WIDGETS don't runings. it doesn't ask me for proxy user name and password.
Do not nobody that can use this way?
A similar situation to try those behind the proxy, please?
thanks,
any solutions or idea?
Read my post. It works for me. This is how I do it at my work. Market and everything works.

Set default browser

Hi, when trying to connect to free wifi, one frequently has to enter info on a website. However, in many of those cases my NSTG redirects me automatically using the built-in browser rather than my Opera mobile. Sometimes that causes issues (unresponsive browser etc). How can I define what browser is being used when my nook redirects to a website for connecting to the Internet?
Thanks!
Sent from my NOOK using xda premium
You can always just delete Browser.apk.
That works fine for me.
I forget if it redirects automatically.
Still, just go to Google or something in your favorite browser and it will display the "Accept" screen.
Deleting browser.apk seems to make things worse. Again, when I am redirected to a login page (NST does this automatically when in Settings/wireless for some providers) it fails....because it does not find browser.apk anymore.
I tried to rename the opera mobile apk to browser.apk, but I could not find the opera mobile apk in the system/app folder....
Sent from my NOOK using xda premium
You wouldn't find Opera Mobile in /system/app, it's not a system app.
You'd find it in /data/app, because it's a regular user app.
Not that renaming anything would help, that's not how Android finds things.
I don't have a login access point here to check anything out,
although it seems to work fine when I visit locations with logins.
I looked into how this works.
The Nook tries to access http://amifree.barnesandnoble.com/bnhello.html
That URL should just echo back "You have successfully reached the internet!"
It uses the built-in WebKit functionality.
This seems a waste for a number of reasons, including that you might have your Nook connected to a WiFi but not the internet.
In any case, I still don't understand what happens to you when you click on an Access point to connect.
If you have to, you enter the password for the WPA or whatever.
Then you open your browser of choice, go to any site and if you are going to be directed, you'll be redirected then.
Reminder to self: Patch or get rid of the B&N web access.
Thanks Renate. So that is how it works:
Since there is no user accessible browser on non rooted NST devices, the device connects and immediately checks the website you list below (saying "testing..." while checking).
If the receiver requires a redirect (for instance to accept certain terms), the hidden browser will be
invoked. Unfortunately that fails if browser.apk is deleted or the browser cannot handle the content on that site and one cannot connect to the internet
Best would be to disable the check so that can be done manually on the browser of choice for rooted devices.
Sent from my Dell Venue using xda app-developers app
Yes, it would fail at displaying the redirect page.
Are you saying that at that point it actually disconnects the WiFi?
Does the little signal thingie on the status bar disappear?
What happens when you just go to your regular browser and go to any website?
On mine, at that point I get the redirect screen I would have gotten originally.
Yes, the signal bars disappear (and I am no longer connected)...
Sent from my Dell Venue using xda app-developers app
Well, in that case, I'd patch Settings.apk to not do the online check.
In any case, I'm still at a loss to understand, because WebKit is part of the core, not an application and the login page will always be displayed in Settings.
How can I patch Settings.apk?
>> login page will always be displayed in Settings
The page is being displayed, but in some cases the browser used (browser.apk) cannot handle the content of the redirected website and I cannot login (not sure if that answers your questions though....).

[Q] Sideloading OpenVPN - can't add certificate or import a configuration

I am a PIA (Private Internet Access) subscriber and I'm trying to configure OpenVPN for Android on my Nexus Player. I had no problems configuring it on my Nexus 5 but when I open the app on the player and go through creating a profile, when I try to click the button to "select" a certificate OR if I try to import an OpenVPN configuration I get a brief message from android that it doesn't have an app to do that.
My guess is that something is lacking on my device - particularly the "open from" dialog that appears when you're trying to add/select a file from your sdcard or cloud drive.
Has anyone else seen this and have a solution? I'm so close to getting this nailed down and I don't want to use the PIA app since I can't access my local network resources when it's connected.

**no root required, im on 5.1.1**
I got it working but it doesnt rotate but it works and all you need to do is input your info and hit connect.
Here is a VPN client that PIA made for there servers:
HTML:
http://download.apks.org/?server=11&apkid=com.privateinternetaccess.android&ver=1.1.7
install that like this:
adb install /path/to/com.privateinternetaccess.android&ver=1.1.7
Open up SideLoad Launcher and Launch VPN, fill out your info and tick save and hit connect. I confirmed working with Chrome at whatsmyip
Cheers,
DFL
Unfortunately it's not working on mine. When I click on "connect" I get a system dialog asking me if I want to enable VPN access - whatever you push after it doesent connet to the VPN.
Has anyone gotten this working 'better'? I've talked with PIA support and asked them why their app is considered "incompatible" and to please change that status in Google Play if there is indeed no issue. DroidVPN, VyperVPN, etc are in there so it's obviously possible I assume
