First screenshots of ICS and TouchWiz 5.0? - Galaxy S II General

Saw this on the Samsung Mobile USA Facebook page. The screenshots don't resemble the current version of TouchWiz, is this our first look at ICS on the GS2? If so, I'm not impressed...
The footer does say screen images simulated, so I'm not sure.
Whats your opinion on this?
Source: Can't post until I have 8 posts...
PS: Please don't flame me if this is already known or just plain noob, I am new here. Just sharing what I found, as it may have some relevance.

ICS are blue themed, this is green!

Agreed - could be true that it is touchwiz 5 though to stop anymore lawsuits but def. not ICS.

all thing that we saw from ICS 4 was pics from galaxy nexus.May be the ICS for SGS 2 can be with some changes..

Both screenshots on the GS2 are rather different, so I'm not sure what it is...

Looks more like a custom launcher to me. Not very Samsung-ish or Google-ish

there are 2 different SGSII models, one with 4.2 inch and the other with 4.5 inch display.
each is designed for a different operator in us so the operator might asked for a different customization of the os.
the weather widgets are the same...
Is TW4

Looks like a PR screwup in the graphics department. This happens all the time.

It's possible I guess.. either way the shots are interesting. This was on samsung USA mobile?

I couldn't agree more. I want as close to stock ICS as possible (since I think ICS is pretty close to touchwiz 4.0). I really hope Samsung add the wifi/bluetooth/gps etc to the notification bar again, I love that feature.

I don't think that the look of the upcoming ICS Rom will have a lot of similarities with the Google ICS look.
They'll stay on TouchWiz and it will look like TouchWiz.
Samsung created TouchWiz to give the Phone a specific look and feel and to be different/better to their competitors. They'll not jump into another direction now.
A BMW is still looking like a BMW, a Mercedes like a Mercedes. Even if you remove the Logos.
Actually ICS is to much hyped. Everyone is expecting to much.

I agree. We're starting to sound like Apple Fanboys
I posted my thoughts here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1371870

Sorry, it was on the Samsung Mobile Facebook page, not the website. Silly error on my part.
It's feeling more and more like its just a mockup, not anything that Sammy will release. But we'll see.

Lmao definetely not TW5 or Ice Cream Sandwich.

Freakin' hideous!

hell no that looks ugly

The statusbar is kinda remiscent of HTC's sense. The icons are just ugly. Take away message of these ads is, one can customize an Android phone (skin) to the point of it being unrecognizable (as well as unusable?).
Touchwiz is just a luncher, icons and a blue bar. The blue bar I now like, the launcher and icons are easily changable even without rooting.

Obviously a marketing guy pulled random screenshots off the internet. The second shot is showing an HTC Sense wallpaper, so stop worrying that this is Samsung's rendition of ICS. Look at the Galaxy Tabs with Honeycomb if you want to get an idea what TouchWiz on ICS will look like.

Use launcher pro for the time being.

The "theme" is as light as it could be for a complete overhaul. You need to look elsewhere for the reasons why your phone is choppy, it's certainly not TW overall (maybe the widgets, some of them are extremely laggy).
Do the lag fix. World of difference

@ OP: Eugene's ROM is probably the fastest and most stable out right now. Besides, why wouldn't you have just downloaded ADW by now? Isn't that the stock Launcher on all CM ROMS now-a-days??? I would suggest following some devs on twitter too, you'll see that things are coming around nicely.

Yea, I dont get the hate....
The only thing that is really overly slow, is the cold boot-up process (media scanning, especially). Other than that, I find TouchWiz to be my favorite of all Android skins. There is a noticeable lag when launching an app for the first time (two seconds or so), but I'm willing to deal with that, even if there is room for improvement.
Not having some of the TouchWiz customizations is what keeps me from jumping to another Android phone. I couldn't live without these iPhone-like Calendar and Clock apps.
But you think TouchWiz is bad? Christ, go try scrolling around the home screens of the Droid X or the EVO. Those phones feel so antiquated, to me. Though, I'd like to see if 2.2 makes them usable...
In other news: GPS and Compass are still completely broken, with no word from Samsung.

Really? I thought that had more to do with the I/O performance. Stock Android is going to be snappier for sure but there is no reason why the Vibrant can't handle TouchWiz, which a good portion of is just different colors. My eyes are bleeding after looking at stock Android on the Vibrant. I know some prefer it but I can't tell you how many people think TW is just the "iPhone launcher"

That's not what I was saying at all, and I won't. Simply put.
I'm sure most people wouldn't mind it if it wasn't so damn colorful and a blatant copy of iOS. Besides the vibrant already looks very similar to an iPhone no need in making it look like you are using a knockoff.
To be fair TW has some very nice additions but at a price of ugly.
Wow, I thought having a verity would be nice... If you up tight, please don't use anything I post.. There is no point in being high and mighty...
Some don't like tw, some do... Some like plain jane.. I like both so I don't care, but have source we can work from? Well, we'll never have tw source so be grateful anyone is working on stuff from source.

Well, I am skeptical about these pictures.
On Google IO a "state of the art" UI was promised, but all I can see is the same look Gingerbread had, but with blue elements.
If I recall right, on IO the Google-Representative said they are "AIMING for a Q4 release", not "it WILL BE RELEASED Q4".
I don't think ICS is anywhere close to release at this moment. And even if it will be released Q4, which I highly doubt, then only on the Nexus Prime, the rest of the Nexus family, not to speak of non-Nexus phones, will follow in 2012.
I expect to get ICS on my GS2 around april to may 2012.
Dammit Google just because you made the statusbar icons blue doesnt mean u should make all the icons blue! !

Looks like the leaked photos from same guy.
Fake.
Truly hideous.
Clearly fake.
I hope they are fake (though the sites claims they are 100%) legit. Hardly looks like the total UI overhaul they promised.
Why is this under galaxy s 2? And this won't be on gs2, If it is, it will mainly be TouchGay, no AOSP. This is the picture of a nexus s...and they said it would be gingerbread and honeycomb, it is. Looks like all the themselves for sensation, nothings changed, just coloring and looks more confusing.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G
Cant be ice cream sandwich. Pretty much the same as gingerbread.
If it is though,,... I and many would be greatly disappointed.
Touchwiz is cool stop being mean.
For those commenting, you do realise that even the leaker stated this is a very early build. Obviously it looks like GB, it makes sense that ICS would be built upon the GB platform, therefore early builds will clearly look like a tweaked GB rom.
Firstly I know the guy who provided us with the photos and he is the same guy who gave us screenshots of Gingerbread before it's release and they turned out to be 100% real.
Secondly ICS is not going to look that different from Gingerbread, but it will act differently.
You can see already that the notifications bar has changed a bit, the market has now changed (and available to all) music app has changed (available to all) and in the screenshot you can see the new widget page which is similar to honeycomb and the app switcher on the home screen again similar to honeycomb. The rest of the UI will look roughly the same as we expect as it works well on a phone.
One thing that will change is the way the UI and apps respond when the phone is in landscape. It will act more like a tablet when in landscape and more like a phone when in portrait.
Just wait for more information to come out and you will see that although it looks similar it will in-fact work completely differently.
well damn it google. they should have make a more beautiful AOSP theme rather than having themers making lot more work than them, which is beautifully done. for out the box UI, Android actually failed that. Sense is the most customized ones, though every version looks the same. I love how the updates from google make things work differently, but please~~ the UI~~ not everyone can customize and have the creativity, so make a beautiful one damn it google.

Touchwiz appreciation thread.

Is it just me, or is touchwiz on a tablet actually really nice :L
i know it slows the tab down, but the widgets icons and notification bar r really minimalist and generally not bad looking!
And the fact that stock touchwiz hc roms come with polaris office and a pen memo means that i dont really mind the occasional lag it has :L
Im also looking forward to the ics touchwiz build aswell.
Does anyone agree with me?

I don't really see it. I have been using touching HC 3.2 for as long as I have the tablet. I just recently installed touchwiz-less ICS and now never want to go back to touching. I do not miss polarised office at all since it doesn't work with swiftkey tablet x, and ihave replaced pen memo with quill, which was only 20 cents. But I guess tastes are different...

Well, there are a few things I didn't like about TW:
1. Bright settings menu. The whole tab felt that it should have a dark theme and in most places it did. But then there was the settings menu that feels out of place.
2. The statusbar is annoying. I don't know how often I accidentally made a Screenshot when I didn't want to. Or brought up the pop up bar which contains alps I never use.

Honeycomb is a very good concept but a "beta version" software: slow, laggy, unstable and incomplete in several ways... I got my G.Tab 10.1 in January and 2 weeks later I flashed (and kept updated ever since) ICS KANG and loving it.
That said, I do like the added Samsung apps and functionality (on both my Note and my G.Tab 10.1) so as soon as it comes out I will flash Samsung's ICS update.
The Note is already great as it is on the latest LB1 Gingerbread ROM so I don't mind waiting a little more for ICS BUT I really can't wait to get Samsung's ICS ROM for the Tab 10.1 and pretty pissed off that they can't seem to be able to give a less vague date.
I hope they make it up to me by adding the split screen funcionality shown off on the Note 10.1 and a revamped note app which syncs across my Note's S Memo app and Outlook notes..
I think touchwiz on 3.X is amazing, really improves the experience. I cringe whenever I see the stock notification bar (I have to open it, hit settings and then hit settings again to actually open the settings compared to open it and hit settings once in touchwiz).
If touchwiz is that amazing, what's HTC sense? Sense is great on both phones and tabs. Look at the HTC jetstream, HTC did a much better job then Samsung.
I don't mind Touchwiz. I like some of the little extras, etc. Stock Honeycomb is still fugly so TW helps a tad, but since it's so light, not much. ICS is a huge improvement on phones, but not so much in tablets. It's bascially what Honeycomb should have been in the first place.
I'd rather have HTC Sense, but since HTC never had any good wifi tablets last year, it just wasn't in the cards. I will say, the GT 10.1 has been a good tablet and does everything I need it to do, but I won't be buying anymore Samsung products like.... um.... Ever. My next tab will be W8 and probably from Asus or something.
I have never liked HTC Sense at all, Touchwiz is a great compromise between adding functionality and staying as close as possible at the "Android experience" (which keeps on getting better and better). Ideally I would like to have a consistent experience across all Android devices with, at best, "touches" added by the different makers and design and hardware to differentiate among them. Sense goes totally against this.

pure ICS on galaxy s3?

mod edit: i don't like the touch wiz UI
Lol at least give it a chance before making such a claim. Use it when it comes out then we can say if it is shyte... There are other launchers like apex and etc..
ok good point, i like the concepts though like if you are messaging then put to your ear and it calls, but im talking about the pure visual aspect of it, the icons look like they come from a 2001 nokia colour phone
Icons are always customisable though with root access. I always wonder why people complain about a UI or skin when it can always be changed or removed.
Ive never used any of the previous versions of touchwiz for more than a few minutes at a time on friends' phones but have always preferred it over the other mfr UIs ive tried. Its actually one of the things im looking forward to with this.

why would you use a feature`less software like stock ics? i had galaxy nexus and it was boring ... tw may have bloat but it has nice features ... if you want stock buy google phone if you want sense buy htc ... simple...
plus if you look in the app drawer is ics stock like
It's a matter of preference. look at the stock ICS E-mail, Contacts and messaging apps. a combination of a Beautiful, modern design with the maximum possible functionality. It just looks, feels and works so well, exactly how a modern UI should. Google really hit the ball out of the park with holo.
Now look at the TW ones - they're basically the same FroYo ones used in the previous galaxies - they don't have that stremlined, modern look of stock ICS. They look dated and ancient and do not feel like ICS at all. The messaging app especially. Black background with grey borders and ugly buttons - and yellow and cyan chat bubbles.. seriously samsung?
having said that, TW does have a very, very good launcher - very smooth and very flexible - i have no issues with that. The TW UX launcher is even better in that regard. it's the core apps that piss me off because they look ugly and dated.

exact same as sgs3, as samsung technical support told me them self over phone,
no point in porting it any more, =)
It's not an OS, it's a skin. And "WILL WE BE ABLE TO PORT IT?" isn't enough to justify posting it in the GT-I9100 section
