is it possible to charge the tab by usb on computer?? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

hi, is there a possibility to charge the tab with an usb connected to my computer? maybe an app, or something?

Hi,
I do not know, if there is a certain app or tweak for that. But there are custom roms which support this feature. I've tested "GALAXY TASK 6.3" where charging with Usb is working. On the other hand it is not working with the overcome rom.
Best regards,
Bel.

i dont use custom rooms and dont want to, aint there any other possibiltys?

Pretty sure I remember seeing adapters you could "build" to get charging over usb working. It was in the Accessories section. Other than that, rooting and a custom rom (Tasks 6.3) allows it.

Well, you don't need to use a custom ROM to charge over USB, but you would need a custom kernel (pershoots). But I assume if you don't want to use a custom ROM then you probably don't want to use a custom kernel either.
Out of curiousity, if you don't want to use custom ROMs then why are you on XDA? It's sort of the central point of these forums...

Mine seams to charge over usb only if u turn the Tab off, which is not ideal but at least it is possible if u get stuck without a charger. I think the device requires too much current to run & charge at the same time, usb ports can only provide 500mA @ 5v

Yes it does. Just use one of Pershoot's kernels, and download the free script manager. And not to forget, the usb charge script txt file it self
Then it would run like a charm.

All PCs can charge the tab10.1 over usb.
On the tab display it shows that it isn't charging but if you leave the tab in standby and come back in 8 hours it will be charged, it just takes longer.
Some of the new motherboards have an option in the bios to enable charging of tablets which obviously ups the amperage on the usb ports and this also "fixes" the tab display to show charging and it also charges quicker.

[Q] Mod for Charging via Power Pack

OK.
I have read the Accessories Posts, but didnt found an Solution for this.
I own an 5000mah Power Bank with USB Connectors.
Output 1A.
So, as you Guys know, if i connect such Device via USB-Data Cable it is detected by Tab as "PC-connected" and the Tab does not charge. If Tab is off, it charges quick and i am able to charge it with one Power Bank Load 1 1/2 Time.
And with my Galaxy S it works also if the Phone is on.
So my Question.
Is there any Tweak, Trick or Mod to enable the Tab to Charge it this Way?
Is it possible to modify some System settings to bring it work?
Have you checked in settings, if the battery charge doesn't go up?
It will charge using any current (even 300mA) only slower. The icon on the battery just says "I'm not connected to my proper charger", not "I'm not charging".
On JM6 and JMA the icon is also a bit better and show's it's charging but not full speed But charge rate is same as before.

Yes.
I am also using Battery Pro that displays me an Icon with Battery Load in Percent.
But the Tab doesnt charge.
Load of Akku decreases.
Yes. (Having JMA) the Stock Icon displays that an Power source is connected but still doesnt charge at all.
My Hope was, that anyone with Programming/Coding Skills is able to bring the Charging to work.
I am not nearly able to do this
I find it absolutely bad, that Samsung has made this incision to the usability of the Tab.
On my Galaxy S i can change with the same Power Bank in Operation without any Problems.
Very Pity that the Tab does not

Hi Pbruck, which power pack are you using & what's the specification for it. can you provide me with the model no.? Thank you.
Hi,
i use this:
http://www.pearl.de/a-PX5398-5542.shtml
Sorry, but have only found it in this German Shop.
Maybe you can still use the provided Informations there.
Babelfish Translation:
http://de.babelfish.yahoo.com/trans...X5398-5542.shtml&lp=de_en&btnTrUrl=Übersetzen
It says "1A (2x usb)" so you need to use 2 ports to get to the 1A.
There is no programming or modding necessary, the tab charges from anything that is powerfull enough and your crappy cheap charger is not (im just teasing you cause i ordered things from pearl before and all they sell is junk).

[Q] CyanogenMod kernel with fast charge ?

Hello,
is there any kernel for CM with fastcharge enabled ? I cant charge while HDMI is enabled.
Maybe there are some good guides to create my own kernel ? I mean something like " add a function to kernel for dummies"
thx for help...
Maybe the problem is bad cable or charger. Try another.
Also I think that almost every kernel can change voltage.

Ive tried original and ipad charger. With original and a different USB cable. Iam pretty sure the problem is that my Adapter recognized as usb interface as its support HDMI and flashdrive.
Without the hdmiadapter all works fine.
Edit: tried more cables. This time with a current Meter APP. Iam pretty impressed that every cable ive tested gave different currentresults. But regardless oft cable, if iam pluggging the hdmiadapter between charger and phone from 1a max 460ma left.
Edit2:
Ive found a cable which is charging with 1.8a and fits into the adapter, but the same here. The phone only charges with 460mA. Its the same current when plugging into a notebook for example. So iam pretty sure the Phone lowers the drain to protect the usbdevice.
So i think fastcharge is the onlyoption i have. Or someone knows how to change this without fastcharge.

Charging issue

OK, my daughter has an Ideapad S6000, completely stock. It was running low on charge one day, so she plugged it into my Moonstone external battery. It would not charge at all. She plugged in her power adapter, and it wouldn't charge on that either. Tried turning it off, and it would charge while off. But it will not charge at all when booted up. Anybody have a suggestion? Many thanks in advance.
Check if USB port isn't damaged. Can you connect it to PC?

Haven't tried yet, since it charges normally when off I have been presuming that the port is OK.
Thanks for the quick response. XDA people are the best.
Ok, we connected it to my computer, my computer did not see the tablet. Tablet did not charge, no USB icon appeared in the upper left-hand corner. No indication that a connection was ever seen by the tablet or the computer.
Any more suggestions?
Thanks
Re-flash?
Thinking about the issue, it seems the the operating system has lost the ability to recognize the USB port, but the system can see it when the tablet is turned off. That would perhaps indicate that the solution would be to either re-flash the stock ROM to regain the capability or to root and flash a different ROM (CWM, AOSP?).
Any suggestions?
Thanks
No alternative ROMs out there that I know of. And I don't know where you'd get a stock ROM unless someone here has one and can post it online.
Probably what you'll have to do anyway is open the case (carefully) and check the USB port is still soldered onto the motherboard. I've attached the official hardware maintenance manual for your pleasure - it's a PDF inside a zip to follow xda's file upload limits.
Many thanks
Adrian

I am pretty sure the USB port works, since it does charge when turned off. If the USB port were not soldered to the motherboard, it wouldn't charge at all.
Thanks for the information though, that is much appreciated.
Great people here on XDA.

[Q] N9005 kernel 2A USB Charging

Hello there !
Got my Note 3 recently, been reading here and there.
Decided to screw Knox and went 0x1, only 6 month warranty left anyway, and I love flashing, tweaking to get the phone as I want !
Coming from a note 2, I had to try the Phoenix port on my N3, and pretty satisfied for now (heard it's risky to downgrade LL to KK so I'm waiting for now...)
On Note 2, I had a kernel allowing 2A rate charge from anywhere, AC, PC Usb, Car charger...
Things where checked using Galaxy Charging Current
On note 3, I saw the fast charging thing, but can't get what I want.
I tried CivZ and Ultimate kernel, both talk about this, and allow custom settings, but they both lock usb to 1A, under settings there is an option to remove security stuff to allow 2.1A anywhere, but it doesn't seem to work :
PC USB stuck at 1A
3m cable on AC gets 1A, and sometimes 1.8, need to plug/unplug for it to randomly select charging current..
USB3 original cable on AC 2.1A.
Car charger is working at 2.
I tried Stweaks/Synapse
Is there any kernel allowing such things ? bypass security and get max charge rate from anywhere ? (like I had on N2)
It's ok if it's LL rom only, I'll probably upgrade someday, tho I hope Xposed will be 100% stable soon.
If there is nothing, then I'm a bit disappointed, how could N2 have this things and we don't anymore, especially for the 3m cable, really, a must have !
(Bonus question, can QI charger really charge at 1.2A as Options suggests ? Would it charge through a TPU plastic case ?)
Thanks for help
Bump, anyone ?
Haven't seen any.
But try some kernel tweak apps.
For now I tried Synapse, S tweaks, Devil manager, but, don't options also come from the kernel itself before being possible in the app ?

Phone stops charging after Oreo Update. (On my second phone right now)

First of all I'm very sorry for posting on a developer Forum, I had lurked here for about a month looking for an answer and I can't find it. I wouldn't had made an account otherwise.
Here's my problem, my phone randomly stops charging (not notice neither) since the Oreo Update. I believe is because of the update because I return my old phone and bought a second phone and decided to leave it on Nougat, I decided to update it to Oreo because I missed notification badges and the day after I already had the same problem.
Things of Notice:
*Both phones where new and on the latest security patch.
*My phone does charge overnight when in wall socket but will stop charging when I used the USB on my car (my car has a USB adapter but if I charge it there, it will keep READING USB and repeating the cycle)
*Phone also stops charging when I use an extended battery. (I'm an avid Pokemon Go Player)
*Restating the phone a couple of times, fixes the issue.
Is there anything that I can do? everything else about the phone works perfectly (Facebook takes a long time to load but that's it). If there's an answer already please forward me to that post. Thanks again
Could it be because the update enabled quick charge, so now the phone requires a bigger energy output from the USB?
Does changing the cable help? If not, try doing a factory reset.

Since this is my first phone with USB type C I only have the one cable. I had notice the battery backup is charging so it seems like a problem with the car charger but I need to test it first. What charging output do I need to charge a modern phone like this?

Anywhere from 0.5A (laptop USB port) to 2.5A (tablet charger) should work. Can you test charging from a computer?

I'm sorry I answer this late, I was unable to log into the site from my phone. (forgot the pasword). I did some testing in the weekend and it did charge on my laptop, it charge extremely slow., Just 3% in like an hour. (with constant use).
I kept using it with my power bank it kept charging reliably as well as in my house. But it keeps having the some problem at the car, So here's what I'm wondering. If I use one of those 3.0 USB car chargers will it charge my phone? without a problem to my car? I don't know if this phone supports fast charging (the specs says yes but I never seen the fast charging message with the regular charging)

No worries. Yes, laptop charging is slow.
I'm not sure if the stock ROM supports fast charging but custom ones do, and it can't harm your device. I don't see why it would harm your car if it was made for it. Maybe your car's USB port broke.

I see, I'll buy one of those quick charge car chargers and if everything goes alright I'm keeping the phone. I really like the look and camera and my only annoyances with it come from Stock Android.

Thanks for posting your problem and the answer!
I have had the same reaction on one of my phones after updating to oreo.
Changing the charger from a 1A model to a 2,4A model solved the issue.
