I tried using Google maps yesterday with only GPS for location ( i have cell triangulation turned off) It searched and searched but never got a lock. I thought i read somewhere that CM7 sometimes has a GPS issue and that there's a fix, but after searching and googling, i can't find the damn posting. Can someone help me out?
Thanks!

Just applied this to my phone. We'll see what happens when i get outside later this evening. Office high rises just aren't conducive to GPS signals.
Thanks for the tip!!

Hi all,
Im new to the g1 and am having a problem.
I cant get my gps to locate any satellites, I am using a rooted and unlocked g1 with no data plan and just want to use gps and not agps. I know there are satellites around as I can find them with my other cell (lg incite using just the gps and not agps). I thought it might be the rom so I flashed 3 different ones with no luck on either and Ive been searching the net and on here but cant really find any help. Does anyone have a solution?
Thanks in advance
It has taken up to 10 minutes for my phone to find satellites without the data connection to assist. How long did you wait for connection?

Yikes! Have you tried in a different app? I don't really think it would make a huge difference, but weirder things have happened.
Ive tried 3 different ones with no luck. Allthough I did use google sky maps but I dont know if that was using the gps or not.

What ROM are you runnning? Radio? Rooted? Can you capture a logcat (alogcat from the market makes log capturing easy)?

Its rooted and running 2.1 but Ive flashed 4 different roms from 1.5 to 2.1 and none of them can pick up the gps signal. I will try the alogcat and post back.
I am having this problem too. Without data the G1 seems useless for GPS. Rarely it would get GPS lock. I had to put back on data and now gps lock is quick and reliable.
On Google Navigation, GPS Essentials, GPS Status, it can never get a fix. Everything needed is enabled, tried multiple reboots, etc, still not working. Left it there for like a hour and after still no fix. GPS Essentials doesn't even see any satellites while trying to get a fix.
Any fixes for me or is this just a hardware issue?
Are you testing in a big open area? That's where I would test first. Is your 3G data working? With 3G data, it locks significantly faster than without it.
Tested in both outdoors and indoors by a window, doesn't even see 1 satellite.
3G data is enabled.
Might be a HW thing. Try flashing stock 2.3.4.
Hi , i had this problem but after several weeks and many searches this thread helped me to solve:

hope to help you too
Hmm, what exactly did you do? I've already cleared the Gps cache multiple times.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
everything has expressed there...
Can you explain what you did step by step? In the other thread you just said how it just worked after a month...
Thanks,

it's definitely a hardware issue, have the same problems.
SNR values stay below 30! Insufficient to get a good fix.
Tested many gps fix apps, all not able to solve.
Fixed my problem by using an external Bluetooth GPS Antenna (old Nokia) and GPS Bluetooth app from the Market. Now GPS fix in seconds, SNR values above 40.. constant fix never looses signal etcetc...
Antenna on device is to weak!

Or, it might need the connectors for the gps aerial bending slightly, as they are made of a weak metal, and get pressed in over time in. There are several threads about it.
I did the fix on mine, and the gps works brilliantly now!
Hope this helps
Mike
I have flashed Kyrillos V10, but my gps didnt work My Gps see allot of satelites and connect also to them but it did not get a fix. Maybe because i put maps with data back with titanium backup. I dont know...
I know now that i get it fixed now
I install a app called GPS Status than i go to tools and A-GPS- status... , than klik Reset. That did the job for my GPS.
I hope it works for you to

what kernel do you use?
I use CM7_kernel_OC_1.4. I believe it came with the latest ROM. Yes, GPS works but it takes a while. When I had Kyrillos v9.5 installed the GPS lock was faster though.
Hello! I have the same problem. But I found a strange thing.
In the past when I used Froyo, GPS found my location with several satellites in use (more then 3). But now I see that it may found my location without any satellites in use. It's seems that something is broken because it's needed minimum 3 satellites to find the location.

If GPS finds your location without any satellites the only explenation is that the phone uses internet connection to find your location. Maybe that is the case.

When your wifi is on (even if you're not connected to any network) your location can be determined to about 50m about
the networks near your location. At least in Germany. I think it's maybe through the google cars which also check the wifi networks when they took pictures for street view.

Thank you very much. GPS status helped me. Now I can get a fix with cold start in around 30s and with GPS on in just a view seconds. Great!

Are you in flight-mode while using GPS, connected to Wifi or to mobile networks (2G,3G)?
I use GPS mostly in flight-mode, and it still takes some minutes (5-10) to get a fix. Even with updated AGPS-data, but with no internet connection (afterwards, waiting for the fix).
Maybe you can show me your gps.conf from the /etc/ folder?
I think it's maybe through the google cars which also check the wifi networks when they took pictures for street view.

There is a thread or two about GPS already that has some suggestions that might help you. Or, at least it won't hurt for you to try. You can use the forum's "search" function in this forum or the "general" forum to find the threads. Good luck.
I saw the topics you are talking about
I've tried to turn on/off remove the battery etc before create this new one

Try installing this GPS status & Tool Box. That might help.

I'm not sure what you searched for or what you saw, but if you searched for "GPS" in the "General" forum, this is one of the threads that should have come up.

And it has the tips within this thread that I said might help your situation.

I'll take a look thanks dude.
I think I have a serious problem because my gps can't find my location it searches forever until time out.
It might sound obvious, have you turn on "Use GPS satellites" ? in the Location services.

If I switch off wireless networks and only use gps satellites it wont find

If GPS status and toolbox isn't showing you locking onto any satellites and you have GPS enabled, I think you might have a hardware issue.
You might also try installing other apps (such as radarNow) from the play store and see if they can successfully use the GPS or not.
I guess it is a hardware issue, tried everything. The only option left is factory restore. ****!
Thanks for the help guys.
