Hey guys, apologies in advance if I'm in the wrong place.
My gf is just about to upgrade her device and wants to go to a droid phone but doesn't want the extra cost to get a galaxy S, but she's determined to stay with a samsung device.
So, we checked out her options, and one offered by t-mo uk is the galaxy apollo. Now, I've never heard of that device, and its not listed here or wikipedia, but there are some reviews that say its running eclair and the model number i5801, which led me to this forum, thinking its a spicia variant(like how the galaxy s has the fascinate and so on)
So yeah, is the apollo an updated spicia or a cut down galaxy S or what ? And how comes no-one seems to be talking about the device. The reviews seem to indicate that it would have launched in the past couple of months but apparently to no great interest.
So yes... I figure that someone here will know what this device actually is and if there is anyone developing for it, or if its just a flash in the pan that isn't worth investing in.
Cheers guys, sorry for rambling!

well it's better than the spica that it has a radio,
and lesser than the spica that it has a very less resolution, and the processor is slower.
a friend of mine just bought it and after using the spica i was not impressed with the screen clarity when compared to the spica, but a good value for money phone, considering it costs around 12,000 INR.
also it has the samsung's touchwiz which i personally hate ...
I would suggest the Acer Liquid, one hell of a phone if the budget permits, with a lot of devs working on the liquid.

Ah, so its definitely not actually a Spicia device then... Anyone know if it is developed for at all ?
Don't get me started on exactly why she HAS to stay with a samsung device and HAS to stay on her current network. If I could get her a Spicia (i think they call it Portal here) then I would, but alas the choice is between Jet, Wave and Apollo. Since Jet and Wave are basically feature phones with pretensions, at least the Apollo gives her the app store, proper email and internet and well... all the reasons why droid is a good thing .
^ As of now I have not seen any development on the Apollo.
i have Sony X10, Galaxy S, and I5700
Please get Galaxy S, you won't regret it.
it's got one of the best touch screen (sesitivity and accuracy)
I got i5700 as a backup android for my GalaxyS and I can't stand the small screen and screen inacuracy,
worst is Sonyericsson X10.
it's a total garbage.
Hi Folks,
I was just wondering. Has anyone here got a Galaxy Tab 10.1? I have VegaComb 8.1 installed on my Vega and let me tell you I am very happy with it. However, having used this for a few weeks now, I’m finding myself using it more than my Laptop. I’m even beginning to look at some serious software i.e Office type apps, handwriting because I think it’s proving to be very valuable. But, here lies my dilemma. Do I invest in Galaxy Tab 10.1 so that all the shortcoming of the Vega (compared to the Galaxy Tab 10.1) can be addressed? You know, the poor screen viewing angle, weight and screen size. I’ve investigated quite a bit about the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and it seems that everything the Vega can do, the Galaxy Tab can do (and dare I say… sometimes even better!).
The VegaComb devs have done a fantastic job and I really appreciate their time and effort. Without them I think I may have parted with my Vega a few months ago.
Anyway, I thought I’d see what other Vega users think. Do I go for it or not?
Thanks.
This is purely my opinion but I believe if you are going to rely on the tablet heavily and wanting to invest in apps and do you work on it, its better to purchase something more reliable. I am not saying Vega is not good ( I have Vega replica and I am very happy with it ) but personally I would get something more sturdy and well built if that device is going to be the primary.
Before I get this replica I had Asus Transformer and it was totally fantastic. Unfortunately I had to sell it due to needing the money. But If I get a chance I would look into something like that or Galaxy tab.
But bear in mind there no such a thing as "perfect" device. All of their own pro and cons!
Hope this helps
I agree with "bennz"!
I think you can't compare a 1/2 cheaper Vega/clone with a Galaxy Tab 10.1, it's like trying to compare HTC Wildfire with double priced SGS2/iPhone4. You just can't!

I don't think price is anything to do with it, I bought the original Tab (FroYo) for £400 and it's not a patch on the Vega
The Vega has been an excellent device to tinker with: fairly innovative as an Android tablet, inexpensive, very good value for money and well supported by the devs. By now, the market is far more mature, and there are better offers, more reliable as bennz said, and better adjusted in price. No more Toshiba Folios and original Galaxy Tabs (as in, overpriced "top brand" pieces of crap) are in sight, so to say, unless Sony majorly screws up their new tablet series, and there's a much bigger variety to pick your tab from: I'd take 7 inches for my next tablet.

My Review-
I have seen many people try to claim that Galaxy Fit, Galaxy Y and other in this range are better than this phone. Well, I don't really agree with this. Yes, they are officially Gingerbread supported phones and have a good Graphic Driver but it lacks something which is more important. Development! Yes, We don't have huge development for these phones. Some don't have their own forum either. Heck, even Ace doesn't have it's forum on main page. The development for this phone is huge, great and consist of very helpful users. You can't have luxury of using various Custom ROM's, tweaks, Themes, Kernel and every other development you will see in other High range phones. Before going to start discussion than this phone doesn't have Gingerbread or a good Graphic driver. Hold on, and look on development forum.
The developers here are very best and experienced in almost every field. We have ported CM7 ROM, OpenFIMG Driver and custom ROM's which makes the phone fast and fills every field which which it lacked before. Tools like Chainfire, modified flash player makes this phone more than worth at this cost and even comparable to some Higher range phones. Thanks to our developers, I am happy that I have this phone. If you are looking for high development but want a cheap phone than this is for you. If you want to keep it all stock, then you can go for any other like Galaxy Fit.
Less devlopament because they are new...
Galaxy 3 is of of course better then galaxy y
But we can't say for galaxy fit for now...
It may get own devs by time...
I agree that we have so much devlopament...
(thanks to devs)
Because the other phones are newer, we can't compare them...
And I think, g3 and apollo is not available as a new piece, people who want to take a new phone, should buy a new phone...
News is Galaxy y will get his siblings that may have front camera with low price...
But still a cheap I think...
Conclusion is,
Our phone is best by our side...
Newer phones may get their devs slowly...
People who want to buy a new phone should buy a high range of phone which ever suits their budget...
If phone is of too low range, may not give a good android experience...
Finally, samsung always gives a **** plastic feel in all range of phones
Giving a review about this phone is hopeless because its dead. I mean you can't find it in the market. Phone like fit and pop are good but our cells beats them in dev. In spec they beat us cause we don't have a good gpu. If we had that we could kick the a$$ easily. If you are looking for a midrange Samsung, go for ace or spend some more and get a galaxy s.

G3 Good as a Mid-Range Android
G3 is really good.
This is my First Android Phone and really happy with it.
My love letter to the G3
i went in the shop looking for an entry android phone and bought my g3 because they had mispriced it at £14.00 instead of £140.00. i bought three and gave one to my bro and one to my mum. I walked out of the shop feeling pretty pleased with my bargain phone and it hasn't stopped impressing me since.
Ive played with the galaxy y and other lower end samsung models and they dont seem to have the same heart as the G3. sure its a bit plastic and the screen is small and when its laid flat it cant decide if its in portrait or landscape mode, but it has something unique, an Xfactor... you. All of you! from the skilled devs to the noobs like me, this phone is loved and cherished and is being pushed well beyond its means by this community.
i know one day i will have to get a new phone (probably when i hardbrick this one!) but i doubt il ever love another handset in the same way, if i could hit all of your thanks buttons at once i would because its this community that drives my love of our humble, glitchy galaxy 3

So is he implying that Samsung will start new line of mobiles not called Galaxy S with the new ‘so much anticipated’ device by Samsung? Find out and judge reading whole article.

IMHO that is what he is implying . new line of devices, maybe highest/exclusive/vip shelf - very expensive, superb design. strong metal casing like in wave not that plastic crap from galaxy s series, latest tech specs latest gorilla and so on. and ofc as leaks shows galaxy series will still be developed but as a mid class of mobiles with crappier plastic casing and not so high tech spec and design.
I think this guy has no clue but decided that selling more Notes is a good thing anyway.
Galaxy note is just S2 on steroids. It is not a successor.

At the rate samsung pops out phones... most of the devices are nothing but successors... so dont expect much... even if there is S3 there will be another S3+ after that... making the previous device obsolete within weeks to month..

They are not absolute successors. I think Samsung has a motto, a phone for every need. And that is what they have been doing. And quite surprisingly ask if their phones sell very well.
Definitely there will be a S3+, but not so soon. There has not been a solid S2+ it anything and it has been an year since the phone launched. And all these phones well not interfere with their flagship device as they will be priced much lesser with inferior features.

keep also in mind that this guy is vp for uk and ireland... yet
i still stand my ground with opinion that the device that is so much anticipated will be launched before olympics and iphone and might be inderpendent and new line of products with some exclusive smooth and solid (ceramic metal) design and latest exynos 4core creating something like exclusive top shelf phones with all them low budget like galaxy ace 2, mid range like sgs 2,g note and the new device creating the bleeding edge expensive samsung phone
we will see
after galaxy note you will buy any Samsung mobile phone?
Seeing how the note is my third Sammy, probably. Not.a fan of Samsung's plastic choices but hardware wise, I like them.
depends on whats available at the time
My last Samsung here. The updates are so slow. It is like running Gingerbread back from the 1920s. There is no excitement with my device. I know some of you are iPhone haters but at least they can update and release new features in one day. Google need to smack Samsung down a little.
Yes I will - Note II / Note Plus
Samsung has always managed to appeal to my design sense and build pretty neat hardware into their phones. I've had a D900, U600, (LG KU990 in between here) Omnia II, SGS and now the Note. The D900 was a fantastic looking, robust little phone which I still have, and the U600 was pretty much the same but with a redesign and a spec bump so I had that as well. Omnia II was my first taste of smartphones and I loved it. Once Android took off in a big way, I hopped on and haven't been disappointed since.
The Note is great. Beautiful screen, massive battery and runs like butter. The new HTC OneX looks cool and comes pretty close to ticking all my boxes but the S-Pen was the clincher. I scribble faster than I can type and I have a screen of S-Memos to remind me about everything from shopping lists to memos to breathing in and out.
The delays on ICS have been a downer but GB still runs great and as a device, still goes on well. Samsung is making up for it by giving us a premium suite of features which weren't even on the radar when I bought the device so I'm not going to complain. So... Note 2? Yes please.

Hehe, and most things apples patches do is stop jailbreak..
Not to big things in the small ones they send out, and 4s still have crappy battery even if they say they working on it..
Not a iPhone hater here tho, gf have one and even my daughter as they are very simple and child friendly..

Samsung is great compared to Dell. The Note has only been out 5-6 months. Took Dell over a year to update the Streak5 from 1.5 to 1.6 (Froyo). I don't think there has been a GB update for Dell Streak5. If Sammy is faster than a year, they're doing great! Which other Android manufacturer updates more quickly?
Besides, GB is working quite well IMHO. And the Note is well made and everything seems to work! I'm in for the next round.

Of course this is your personal opinion and it´s absolutely okay to think like this...but people have to face the fact, that ICS isn´t THE invention of the century, it is more like a small update that makes it possible to install the apex launcher (and some small more stuff ). And beside this, I do not know any manufacturer that provides faster updates to their users (ignoring apple for a moment).
The Note as well as the S2 are two MONSTERS of devices! An incredible camera, snappy/fast/smooth, resistant and even with GB they are still the headliners on the market. Ignoring some apps, there´s nothing to miss atm, it is more about nerdy minds to always be on the newest trip. And: We bought a GB device, so they don´t owe us anything.
BTW: Just check the S2 user com...e.g. the quality of the cam got worse with ICS...and as a matter of fact I do not know ANY smartphone with ICS that beats the S2/Note cam quality atm. I want a device that is WORKING and that delivers some functions which I can really USE within the day. And that´s exactely what samsung delivers imao...
So in my case: Yes, i will stay with samsung...
after my current note, next one will be maybe galaxy s3, if it wont give me satisfaction, will be waiting for note 2 : )
Samsung are making good handsets lately, but I have learnt one important lesson here with my first Samsung Phone ever:Get your bread direct from the Bakery !!.
Meaning,it is always a wise decision to get your phone from a dedicated manufavturer, not from some company who beeing busy in making washing machines,TVs cameras etc..have no time left to support certain devices.
last three devices are all samsung. I have htc work phone which i hate.
I want a phone that works and will last long enough for me to sell on fleabay. I couldnt care less regarding the operating system i.e GB and ics, aint the end of the world at all,
Take a look at Asus and the transformer, they update faster than anyone great huh, hmmm shame about the hardware. As they say you can polish a turd but its still a turd.
Give me solid hardware at a good price, and thats what samsung nail every time
Bring on note2... Can't wait til October... Bring it...

And whats wrong with HD2,I have been using it for the last 3 years now and is still working like a Swiss watch,I have flashed at different times many OSs on it,just changed back to WM from Miui's ICS,sorry if I offend anyone here but being a 78 years old veteran I bear a special affection at my heart for the WM.
Damn,my wife's Galaxy Tab 10.1 3G is still on Honeycomb 3,1 while my son's have been updated to 3,2 months ago!! and when side by side you can easily observe how inferior the former is in comparison.
I had a couple of Htc smartphones, then an S2, and now the Note. Hated the Htc's, loved the S2, and like the Note even more. So my next phone will probably be the Note 2, unless somebody comes up with something like the Note but better.
Sent from my GT-N7000
Meh...maybe...
The thing is, the Note is a beautiful phone and i would have bought it no matter what company made it. This is my first sammy phone and it could be the first of many or the last one. As long as the community on xda is strong and the phone itself is amazing i couldn't care less about the company. I have to say though, Samsung has come pretty dam far in the last few years, its unbelievable.
For me, it really depends on how Samsung handles this whole broken-kernels-that-destroy-eMMC fiasco.
If Samsung remains silent on the issue, the Note will likely be my last Samsung device. If another broken kernel manages to get through testing and is officially released (see the SHW-M250S/K/L sources), the Note is guaranteed to be my last Samsung device.
While I don't like their hardware design, nor do I like their historical track record, Sony's recent history of developer support has been highly commendable, and if Samsung keeps blowing it with regards to their total noncooperation with developers, I'll be making the jump with my next device.
Yes, and to be more specific, i will wait for Note 2. I was a HTC fan but, lately, it did not impress me. HTC ONE x , because it uses tegra 3, it is a flop, in my opinion, inefficent and power hungry CPU, no were near Exinox refinament. Samsung offers something witch is crucial for me.. good low light video camera (no ghosting) and USB OTG.
Samsung make good phones overall. Nobody makes a perfect device. Just levels of tolerances that one accepts. I have had 2 other Samsung phones and they were excellent, really excellent. Tbh whilst I want ICS I couldn't care that much since ginger bread is stable. And I prefer stable over everything else.
I probably won't be getting another phone until my Note dies - I love it that much. If Sammy are still top of the heap by then I will probably go the Sammy route again.
I also don't really understand the whole 'Samsung lied to us stuff'. I've struggled to find anything from Samsung that said they'd deliver ICS on the Note by the end of Q1 2012, everything I've found is hearsay or relating to Samsung devices generally (i.e. We'll start rolling out ICS updates in Q1.)
Well they haven't lied. The SGS2, the phone with the largest user-base was updated first... And the phone with all the extra complications of a screen approx four times the size and with a stylus, etc has been delayed. Not a surprise to me - only to those who bought a device with one OS version thinking it would have another IMMEDIATELY!
Its not even like ICS is much better... I flashed ICS Stunner and within a week I was back on stock GB. ICS offers a few good touches (bookmark sync, slightly better UI performance, data usage limits, face unlock (which p***ed me off mo end), etc) but basically its still Android and we've already got that.
