I can't figure out how to reset an app's data on the nook touch. On a standard android device, going to Manage Applications and selecting any app gives you the optiosn for clearing defaults, cache, and clearing data. Clearing the data is essentially the same as uninstalling the app and reinstalling it fresh.
On the nook simple touch, there is no option for clearing the app data. When you go to the app, there are options for uninstalling, clearing cache, clearing defaults, and force stopping, but it is as though B&N specifically removed the ability to clear out the data.
Does anyone know of a way to clear out the data manually? It would be nice to be able to do it on the nook itself, but I'm fine with adb.
In the end, I could always uninstall and reinstall, but that is a hassle, and I would have to back up the apk beforehand or re-download it.
You need NookColorTools for that.
I might be wrong tho as I don't currently have it installed
I do have the NookColorTools app installed. That's how I got to the manage applications menu in the first place. But the particular option for resetting the data is missing. Other than that, the screen looks exactly the same as a standard android screen for managing an app.
Could it be missing because nook touch is running android 2.1 and that feature was added on 2.2? I only have 2.2 and 2.3 with which to compare.
Ah oh well, I take that back then
The app data can be found in /data/data so you can accomplish what you want quite easily with adb.
Thanks, I figured it had to be something simple like a directory or a file.
I could probably clear out the directory using es file explorer; no need to involve the desktop.

I notice this happens alot of custom roms other than stock deodexed roms.
I started reinstalling my apps one by one because TB was only resintalling half my apps. So after reinstalling about 30 or so apps, the market stops installing apps for me. I'm currently running "WORKING NETFLIX! NEW! [AllianceROM][r7.2] HybriD 3D[Sense 2.1 OTA][Themed]"but this has happened on Calkuns roms too. Its even happening with updates to apps that are already installed. So I uninstalled the apps and tried installing them as fresh apps and that still doesn't work.
Any ideas?
Clear your market data and cache. For whatever reason when you install a bunch of apps from the market at the same time this happens.
If the above doesn't work you may have to wipe your .android_secure folder on your SD card as well.

Future reference, to clear the data and cache of any app, go into settings>applications>manage applications>app your trying to clear data for.
OK I performed the install per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1165998 and have read every single post as of about 5 minutes prior to writing this.
Everything went perfectly fine. Installing over a stock 3.1, except for rooting. I'm not completely new to this... not a master either. I've rooted my Atrix with every official update, and rooted my dad's Verizon Incredible, I think that's the name, and installed Cyanogenmod 7.
MY problem is I can't open any "links." In either gmail or e-mail clicking on a good URL and get it to open in the stock browser, Opera or Firefox (it prompted me before the update). The screen just dims and nothing. I tap the screen and the screen "undims." This also happens when I download a pdf in Firefox and try to open it. If I use Astaro File manager I can open the pdf with out any issues. It appears to be related to the browsers only so far.
I've already performed a restore missing apps and system data with Titanium Backup Root.
Do I need to clean Dalvik cache? Do a factory wipe? Hopefully something less drastic...
Any help or pointer to resources I missed are appreciated.
P.S. I did try posting on the developer thread, and I can't post. Since I'm not experienced enough to be of much help and I prefer researching and learning without asking questions previously asked and answered.
Checked Defaults...
I just tried settings--->applications--->manage applications---->pick your app and clear defaults? No default set for the Browser, Firefox, Gmail or Opera.
CWM Cache Partition Wipe
Sorry for multiple posts I'm trying to troubleshoot my problem...
The problem still exists after clearing the cache partition with CWM.
Removed Opera
No change except I've noticed it is faster since I cleared the cache.
Removed Firefox
Now the builtin browser works!
Reinstalled Opera
Initially the same issue... and then the option to select between the Browser or Opera!
Second try the selection box appeared quickly!
Restored Opera data via Titanium Backup and all still appeared well.
Rebooted same issue... Uninstalled and reinstalled again. No change.
Rebooting...
Redo
Uninstalled Opera.
Used CWM to clear the cache partition.
Reinstall Opera.
Reinstall Firefox.
And I'll post this before my session times out. I hop this may help someone else someday.

You must have missed a post on this topic --default app picker--and someone's solution. I think I saw it in the development section. The solution was to make sure that auto rotate was set to on, and then make the screen redraw the grayed out app default picker screen by rotating the Xoom. They said to do it for each app that was causing a problem. Sounds crazy, but it seemed to work. Look for the post, or just try it. It can't hurt.
Working... Why
Working now and survived a reboot without breaking.
I haven't restored any data. :-(
Anyone know why or where I can look to try and figure out why. How about if I can recover some of the application data selectively?

Check out post #3 on this thread.
Aha
Thank you!
Good news that works great.
Better news I learned a few new things.
A good day if I do say so myself.
P.S. Note to self App Picker not file associations for Android
So I've already been able to successfully install apps from the android market place. But for some reason I can no longer download any apps. Whenever I try to, it stays at "downloading" and makes no progress. I've already cleared the app data, cleared cache, and forced quit. Any suggestions?
no suggestions...
You could try reinstalling the market apk, try removing your Google account and adding it back in, or trying restoring to a backup if you have one available when it worked.
The last one is a little extreme IMO but its an option.
Didn't seem to work. Any other suggestions?

sent from the greezal's fire
Hi all,
I am running CM9 20120720 nightly on I19100. A few days ago when I was running CM9 RC1, I noticed thee was an extra Music app in the app drawer. So I decided to uninstall it (hold down on icon and drag to uninstall). Shortly afterwards, almost every app and service (eg., Browser, Dropbox, ES File Explorer, Superuser) started to randomly crash. So I tried rebooting, same problem. I cleared the cache, and dalvik cache, and fixed permissions in CWM, and this didn't help. So I tried flashing a new nightly, cleared cache etc... and that didn't work. Even flashing RC2 didn't help.
So basically the only thing I haven't tried is wiping data and starting from scratch. Obviously I would rather fix this than have to reinstall everything, so I have attached a couple of logcats. It looks like it has something to do with /data not being readable by apps, or something. They can't access their sqlite databases and apparently that makes everything crash.
I also checked from an adb shell, /data has 300MB of free space.
I just realized it sometimes can't connect to wifi.
I have no idea what is really going on here, so any help would be appreciated.
EDIT: OK I just had to resort to a full wipe. It is fixed for now
Open root explorer. Go to /data/dalvik cache. Select all files in the folder and delete them. Reboot immediately. Stuff will get very unstable till you do.
This will re optimize the system after all the changes you have been making.

Similar to this, is thr a way to clear cache partition without recovery mode?
What is the purpose of doing this? Will this clear my settings or default programs?
Adversely, I have one default program I would like to clear but it does not show up on the default app list... can I clear this one manually? Namely I want to switch back to using Svoice vs Google Voice and no matter what i do I can switch it back. Turning on Svoice under settings does nothing.
Thanks for the great info
Thanks for the helpful tidbit.
question here
if i clear my dalvik cache( with not the intentions to install new rom...just cleaning junks) will my personal data be saved?
why just don't use one of app : https://play.google.com/store/searc...sp=CAFiDQoLY2xlYXIgY2FjaGV6AhgAigECCAE=&hl=en
So cache partition stores all these settings which can be deleted from settings->apps? or it's maybe something like temp in Windows?
Whether will be deleted apps settings after wiping cache partition?
edit. I found.
None settings deleted. It just support's faster lauching of most used apps. After wiping, few lauching of the app restores previous condition of executing. May fix errors during opening some app, due to some overloads of this memory.
Because dalvik cache stores fragments of compiled code of an installed apps, and can be just deleted for restore some performance of system (it is restored after reboot).
Especially these wiping these two - dalvik and partition cache, is sometimes practised after installing lots of apps, to improve performance, maybe some errors.
Correct me if something's wrong.
