So I've already been able to successfully install apps from the android market place. But for some reason I can no longer download any apps. Whenever I try to, it stays at "downloading" and makes no progress. I've already cleared the app data, cleared cache, and forced quit. Any suggestions?
no suggestions...
You could try reinstalling the market apk, try removing your Google account and adding it back in, or trying restoring to a backup if you have one available when it worked.
The last one is a little extreme IMO but its an option.
Didn't seem to work. Any other suggestions?
maybe this one:

There are several threads here dealing with the market download unsuccessful error. Unfortunately, none of the solutions have helped me to this point. I am currently on the AOSP ish JK2 1.1 ROM, but two days ago I was on one of the sombionix ROMs and I was having the same problem. In fact, this "download unsuccessful" error was one of the reasons I wanted to try a different ROM. Bottom line is, I don't think it is ROM related.
So, I am getting the download unsuccessful error for most apps that I try to get from the market. Funny thing is, some apps work fine and install fine. I have tried clearing the cache/data for the market app and the download manager app from settings->applications->manage applications and going to market and download manager. I have seen tips that suggested uninstalling the market??? but I couldn't figure out how, since it the option to uninstall was grayed out. Is download manager even needed? I have seen some people that say they freeze it with titanium to conserve battery. I have seen where some people that have this problem use Astro after getting the error and then browse to the apk and install it manually. The problem is, I can't install astro because... wait for it... I get the download unsuccessful error. I adb shell'ed and looked for the market download folder, but I couldn't find it. Where is it, anyway?
It's not just download unsuccessful errors that I am getting. I also have times where the download never starts. Sometimes I have to cancel and restart the download several times before it will actually download (sometimes ending with a download unsuccessful error after it reaches 100%).
In summary, the questions are:
1. Is uninstalling an re-installing the market an option? How do I do this?
2. Is freezing download manager a good idea?
3. Where is the market download folder?
4. Any other suggestions for getting past these errors and having a market that actually works most of the time?
I have issues with unsuccessful downloads as well. Latest one was LauncherPro and Google Voice. LauncherPro I download from the developers website and Google Voice I managed to resolve by going in and deleting the Marketing cache.
As for the question of deleting the market you would have to use something like Titanium Backup. But make sure to find a Froyo compatible Market APK first.
Well, I don't know why it would help, but I froze com.sec.android.providers.downloads in titanium and it seems that I can now download some of the apps that before I could not.
I would still really appreciate it if someone could take a stab at the other questions I have asked in the OP.
Anyone? Please?
Downgraded & rooted couple of days ago, removed some bloat, all ok.
Uninstalled a little more bloat today... but...
1. Can't remember what I uninstalled exactly.
2. Market launches ok, but whenever I click on an item within the market i get an instant force close every time.
Ideas? Help?
Thanks all.
Edit: I remember uninstalling download manager. Could that be it?
It's not here though, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1036249, anyone have the apk?
Can you provide a logcat of the issue?
Not currently as I don't have a logcat app installed.
However, I'm sure it's related to the download manager I uninstalled using root Uninstaller.
Market is force closing on download links & anything I attempt to download using the browser throws up an empty zip folder.
I could really use the download manager apk to avoid having to reflash.
Thanks for any help.
Install a logcat app, run the error and paste the output here. It will help by debugging the issue.
I'm not too sure it has to do with the "download manager" app, since that is mainly related to the web browser. Market downloads follow their own route, as they are stored in the cache partition while they're being installed.
Ok, I'll get transfer a logcat app to my phone when i get back to my pc later.
Just type in "adb logcat" into adb do you want a copy of my download provider dazza??

Thanks for that, just reinstalled & I'm now able to access market links without fc.
However, downloads are not working properly.
No fc but the download icon only briefly flashes up in taskbar but doesn't download.
I'm guessing that this is because I have setinstalllocation2.
Moved to phone via manage apps but still no joy.
When i get home I'll go back to setinstalllocation0 & reinstall so that they go to sys & I'll bet a penny to a pound that problem will be solved!
Ok, so, didn't work.
MArket is now not force closing but, as before any downloads started just result in a very brief flash of the download taskbar arrow then nothing.
Uninstalled updates to market, no luck, upgraded to new version market, no luck, however, i do now get an error downloading file notification.
Please delete post
Erm... Use pastebin.com, with Java notation. It's WAY more readable. For example: http://pastebin.com/02jK09Yr
Can't paste to it from browser so, once again, will have to later.
Did manage to install alogcat from an apk and pulled this just now.
Ok, so here's a couple of logs i took just now & submitted to pastebin.
Decided to flash.
MODS, PLEASE DELETE THREAD.
My Nook Color's running CM7.2. I have that dreaded "your device is not compatible" message from the marketplace. I've tried every solution out there, changing the screen density, fixing permissions then wiping the cache etc. but nothing works.
Well, I said screw and it just decided to sideload the app instead. However even that doesn't work. I download it with my phone, back it up with Astro, then transfer the APK to my Nook. When trying to open it, it says there's an error parsing the file. If I open it with Astro it says can't open as APK.
What can I do? I've sideloaded other apps before but they were downloaded from the internet, not my own backups.
This is the app in question: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ellevsoft.socialframefree
Edit: Just re-read the description, seems I need 3.0 or greater. D'oh!
I had this problem last week. I decided to wipe data, system and cache in recovery and reload my rom. Now the market works and I am able to download stuff that the market said was incompatible (and I knew it wasn't).

Is anyone else able to install the latest update to Google Keyboard from the Market? I am unable to. I think I broke my Razr at some point, sadly. I manually updated to the new keyboard before they put it in the market (way back when). I have been able to get it to update in the past, but now, something is wrong, and it won't update...it keeps either telling me my certificate isn't correct, or it is already installed.
Things I have tried:
Making sure the following were the stock versions, and then removing all of them:
in /system/app:
Latin.apk, LatinIME.apk, LatinImeDictionaryPack.apk
in /system/lib:
libjni_latin.so, libjni_latinime.so
in /data/data:
com.google.android.inputmethod.latin
com.google.android.inputmethod.latin.dictionarypack
com.motorola.android.inputmethod.latin
I have tried wiping davlik-cache and cache, tried rebooting. Tried installing from market, and downloaded apk, using adb and pm install. It seems to either, if all the files are present, tell me that it can't install, as it is a different version of the certificate OR if I delete them all, it tries to install and reports the app is already installed.
Any suggestions?
Just to help anyone else find this post, some of the error messages I encountered that would help them find this in searching:
From the pm install, errors: INSTALL_PARSE_FAILED_INCONSISTENT_CERTIFICATES and INSTALL_FAILED_ALREADY_EXISTS
and from the dialogs in Android, when trying to do it from the market:
Application already exists, and Package file was not signed correctly.
Are you rooted? If so, have you tried uninstalling the keyboard with titanium backup, rebooting, then installing the new one from the play store?
Yep, I'm rooted, I should have mentioned that. I tried uninstalling with Titanium Backup, no luck. There must be some other thing that is colliding with the keyboard, something that I need to delete or clear, no idea. I am sure it is an odd problem to me, cause I got the keyboard manually before it came to market, but darned if I can figure this out. It really stinks, cause now I have only one choice, Swype. I really like and miss the Google Keyboard.
Only other thing that I can think of is if you are running a custom rom, do a dirty flash and then flash gapps. Otherwise you might have to do a complete wipe and start over.

If your problem is in somewhere in data then a factory data reset is an option. But before you try that my restore thread allows you to try 3 different systems (stock, stock deodexed-debloat & if your are unlocked: a Telstra deodexed-debloat) and keep your data. They all need to be done is a series to keep data.

I managed to get this installed...I'm not sure exactly what I did to get it to work, and I still think I am somewhat broken, unfortunately. I removed the data directory, left all the .so and .apk files from stock, EXCEPT I took the Google Keyboard apk and manually stuck it into /system/app. I THEN did a pm install -r googlekeyboard.apk and it managed to install on top. I think I also (although not sure it helped) removed a rename line in /data/system/packages.xml about the package.
I don't have it linked in the market (in spite of trying with TB) and I don't have the Google Keyboard Settings app showing in my app tray, but the keyboard is there, selectable and seems to be working.
Cheers

I am unable to install any version of google keyboard in my rooted Micromax A177.
Guys, I got a WhatsApp+ update notification, I downloaded the new Apk and tried to install it over the old version, howeverthe phone sat on the installing screen with the loading bar for about 2 minutes and then finished with a message saying X Application not installed
I made a titanium backup of the app, uninstalled and tried to install again, the same problem arose, then, I tried to use the play store to install the default app, resulting in a Package file is invalid message after trying to install for a while, I tried to restore my Ti Backup however, when the app was being installed, I got the app not installed message once more, after trying with different versions, of the app it always resulted in the same, cleaning everything I could with SD maid didn't help.
Manually deleting everything seemingly related to the app didn't help.
The last thing I tried was using pm install appname.apk to install it but I get the following message "FAILURE [INSTALL_FAILED_INVALID_URI]"
I absolutely need this app but I do not want to factory reset, what else can I do to install the app?
Thanks.
(Clearing the play store cache doesn't work either)
