Is it just me, or is the volume slider WAY out of calibration? Seems like the majority of the Δ is up at the top 15-20%.
Perhaps this is one of the things they "fixed" with 6.2, haven't gotten whacked with it yet.

I've noticed this as well. The volume (and brightness) seems to have minute difference 'till it's at the latter part of the slider. It doesn't seem like a linear increase >.>.
And turning down the volume to the lowest setting, notifications still make a sound.

There's a separate notifications-only sound bar (separate from system sounds), which you can access via the settings.
I just wish i could get a sound boost... so quiet when watching netflix.

You can try one of the volume boosters in the market. Use at your own risk though. Don't set the DAC level too high or you'll blow out the speakers.
volume slider isn't suppose to be linear, since decibel isn't linear. ...I think this one actually coreaponds to how volume sliders should actually work instead of how we think it should work.

Should work? I know we're all geeks here but I think for usability's sake volume should be at 25% when the slider's a quarter of the way through its travel, no?
Perhaps I'm missing something.

I agree, for usability it should be a linear scale. No one here's debating whether or not dB is linear (it's not; it's logarithmic iirc).

Unlike all the other volume related posts I've found, I seem to have the opposite problem LOL
When working, or late at night when everything else is dead quiet, I've been using my HD to listen to radio / youtube (ok, not strictly working then ), but I'm finding that even on the lowest setting, the volume is actually very loud.
One more down click on the volume buttons turns the volume off, but one click up from silent is too loud for background noise.
I know I could adjust it via the on-screen volume slider app, but that's just a faff!
Is there any way to adjust the volume control buttons so that it takes (say) 10 or 20 clicks to get from off to max, rather than just 3 or 4 as it does now?
Or perhaps I'm just getting old ("turn that racket down son" as my Dad used to tell me...)
Stupid thing is that with the Diamond you could also adjust the volume in the same way (taking steps of 3 bars in the volume overview) but when touching the screen you could increment/decrement with 1 bar accuracy, allowing much better volume control. When I try this on the HD, it skips 3 bars as well...
Argh why remove this feature??
dunno - but it's begining to do my head in...
I've resorted to digging out an old set of headphones which have a volume dial on them
Just tested the mp3 player and found the same problem, very annoying. Be good if someone could make a fix
If you're using Coreplayer, you could assign the volume button to control the volume up and volume down. In addition, in the setting you could choose whether to change the volume in 1% or 10% increments. I always use this option to get the EXACT volume that I want. This is very important when I listen to music before going to bed. With the 10% increment default, it is too loud for me to fall asleep even at 10% loudness, hence I always use this feature in Coreplayer.
Nice on eaglesteve, cheers
I wasn't using it, but at least I know now that I could

That works OK for me, can adjust to the single bar you click on with more resolution than the buttons - I also need to do this to get a low enough headphone level.
Does anyone know if its possible to change the increment value for volume up/down? It seems to increase/decrease the volume by 20 each time the buttons are pressed. Would love to be able to adjust this to 10 or 25 instead.
I would like to know this too.
I'd like each time I press the side VOL UP or DOWN that the slider only moves 1 notch rather than 3 at a time. Sometimes when I'm in my bed listening to MP3's - 3 notches is too much!!!
I have same problem n asked a few days ago
I didnt find the best solution but found a solution none the less ..

Same problem for me.
This subject is talked in many threads here and in other forums but without any solution.
Any one can help please.
Thx
Yep - this really bugs me too when listening to music in a relatively quiet environment.
you can try using HD tweak to limit the max volume, i found that in doing this it decreased the amount of volume change per bar, of course this also limits the max volume to can ever have so its your call but setting it to its lowest seems plenty loud enough for me.
Its not perfect or even a solution but its a start.
whats really enoying is the alarm, you simply cant get windows basic alarm to be quiet, its either off or too loud, G-Alarm takes care of this however.
any leads on this? im assuming it is set somewhere in the registry? ideas guys??
cheers]
Mat
Nothing new about that ?
You can set the max music volume indipendantly to system volume. I have music volume set to 25% which makes is listenable across the whole range of system volumes.
I use Julien Schapmen's excellent Advanced Config Tool to set music volume, it's under the HTC Audio Manager section.

some here!
anyone please?
i guess there should be a reg value for this
Thank you
I'm guessing a software volume controller
and using a button mapper
could get around this
NOTE! This lowers ALL volumes if you leave it on! Even alarms and notifications so remember to turn it off when you are done!
I would not recommend using this method at high volumes for extended periods of time. Obligatory "I'm not responsible for broken speakers, this is just my workaround method. I didn't develop the app, it was just recommended to me."
This may sound odd to some, but the speakers for the HTC ONE have always been too loud for me. They are certainly great speakers but I've never really needed them at max volume for anything. I use my ONE at night and in public a lot where the volume shouldn't be loud so I don't disrupt anyone. It took me a while to find any sort of answer of how to lower the volume since even on 1/15 it's still too loud compared to all my other phones and gaming devices. Note that I have the 30 step volume mod, InsertCoin Rom, and BulletProof Kernel, but I don't think it makes a difference for this.
Guide:
Leave Beats Audio On because it's awesome
Lower your volume to its lowest setting for the time being
Go to the Google Play Store and install the free app "Music Volume EQ'
Open it and tap 'EQ' at the bottom of the popup
Make sure it's set to 'ON' at the top left
Now change the sliders:
60Hz raised to +5
230HZ lowered to -5
910HZ lowered to -15
3kHZ lowered to -15
14 kHZ lowered to -15
Your volume should be significantly lower and I believe this is the safest setting to use with any volume level.
For even LOWER volume, set the Bass Boost to its lowest value(knob turned to the lower left) and turn it ON
Set the Virtualizer to its lowest value and set that to ON
This increases the bass even more though so it could damage your speakers over time if you use it on high volumes.
Now you can navigate away from the app by either hitting the power button at the top right of the app or by hitting BACK twice and try playing music or games to make sure it sounds right to you, if not then try adjusting those settings above. You can lower all the sliders to -15 if you'd like, but the sound quality starts to deteriorate in my opinion.
When you are done with your quiet session you can simply tap on the Music Volume EQ notification from the drop down menu and turn it off with the button at the top left!
With this I am able to play my games around others without disturbing anyone
If anyone has any corrections to this, safety warnings, or links(like if this type of guide exists and I'm just blind) please let me know. I have gained so much from this community and haven't contributed much other than "thanks" buttons.
THANK YOU! I've been looking for how to do this! The volume on this thing is just way too loud, even on the lowest sometimes!
Thank you very much for this. Now to find something similar for screen brightness. All the apps for brightness just add an overlay which makes the whole screen muddy looking.

You're looking for Lux Lite on the Play Store. It will lower your brightness to pitch black if you want, it's one of the most recommended brightness apps for any droid.
when I try to run this app I get this error..."htc one dm stopped working" ....Anybody else?
Was looking for a way to lower the volume for listening music on speaker mode. Came across this thread and it works perfectly. Many thanks!

^ Exactly what he said.
Many Thanks for sharing this! I have been watching movies on my HTC One at night and like you said, even the lowest 1/15 volume setting is way too loud. My earphones are broken so i can only use the loudspeakers on the phone itself. I just installed XVolume which is an Xposed mod but it is in Beta 5 and the mod doesn't work for HTC One. I wanted to leave feedback in its development thread but the latter is apparently abandoned since the thread is closed. Anyway, i will try your method right now.
Just a note to everyone (and maybe this info should be added to the main post for security) there are 2 softwares with the same name in the store but i think K&K is the right one since it has millions of downloads.
Update: Your method works! And i have found another software which claims to do the same thing but it's paid and only available as trial in the google play store: Fine Volume Control V2
I got my OP2 4 days back and it has been quite a disappointment switching from the OnePlus One in terms of sound quality and volume levels.
The volume level is horrendous, both for ringtones/notifications and media. I'm sure this will eventually be solved by a kernel or a OS update but as of now, even if I am with a group of friends and the phone is in my pocket, I can't hear the ringtone. Moreover, there is no option to unlink ringtone and notifications.
Before anyone suggests, my volume levels are highest.
J.
It is true. Volume is too low. For me it is not a problem because I'm almost always on silent mode. Anyway there is one volume thing which is also broken...
When playing games it does not make a visible difference if the volume is on the highest lvl or almost muted. There is a difference, but IMO speaker is to loud when You set it's level as lowest as possible -_- (but not entirely, not to mute)
You think the same ?
It is a problem for me as I go to crowded places often.
I don't play games but I listen to a lot of music and apart from the volume levels, the sound quality is also very bad. Spotify sounds like a radio channel being broadcast from a garage.
I don't have the issue of speaker being too loud like you have. But OnePlus needs to up their game. Maybe they should concentrate on these issues instead of creating hype around an invite system.

Can someone post the mixer_paths.xml? I'm waiting for my OPT to ship, but it'd be interesting to see if we could modify the mixer_paths.xml to work like the OPO speaker mods.
I did modify it and there is a little difference. Still, not as good as the OPO.

could you highlight which lines has been changed?
That's funny because I found the volume was way too loud on my OnePlus Two, even at the lowest setting. I disabled Audio Effects and I can now set the volume to a more appropriate level.

Go into the app Audio Tuner and toggle it off. You can also toggle it off directly when playing media on the speaker, just press either of the volume buttons and look for the "AudioEffects" toggle.
No kidding. I got mine yesterday and it's so quiet that I'm concerned whether the alarms will wake me up; I'm a very heavy sleeper. I was just trying to listen to something on TuneIn which was quite audible on my OPO and I was straining to hear.
Go into audio tuner> turn the preset to "flat".. turn maxxbass off... turn maxxspace off...
Just done what omegablaze said but increased max dialog to max and my volume went up through headphones but not really seeing a difference though the phone. I was wondering if the are any custom flashes out there like extreme beats + viper4android that I have just seen on YouTube. U see I'm new to flashing and root etc so any help would be great because it's very hard to hear any calls that come though

well as per what i have researched there are many people who are facing this issue. Furthermore i have 2 other phones lumia 1520 and a motox and they both are very loud compared to one plus two. i have compared the same notification tones on all three phones and the lumia 1520 is the loudest whereas one plus is the quitest. In a noisy environment you dont come to know that it is ringing especially while riding a thumping motorbike.
My advice based on what I'm currently doing is to buy some nice headphones. The ones I'm using are Sony MDR-10RC they really compliment each other in looks and if you play with the audio settings it equals very nice sound. But if it's a case of you are not hearing you phone when its ringing just download zedge and search (loud ring tone). Yes I'm not a fan of oneplus 2 stock speakers but I hope this helps you out.

I also have problem with ringtones i work in factory on cnc and i can't heare phone ring tone and notification particularly
Guys, what about increase the volume of the headset or the headphones for listen to music louder? I saw the file, but I couldn't guess which value to change.
Same problem. Too low during Call, and loudspeaker during call. Notifications and ring tones too low too.
Headphones are fine though.

I guess something needs to be done, I also find volume very low
Is there any way to adjust the ring/notification volume besides having to go into settings/sound? The volume rock only adjusts media volume.

Completely agree on it being annoying. I'v very surprised that Google chose to make this the standard for Android Pie. I don't understand the logic at all.
I completely agree, it makes no sense at all. The old system worked perfectly and made more sense - you only need to adjust media volume WHEN MEDIA IS PLAYING. The rest of the time the rocker should adjust ringer/notification volume.
I made a thread about this very thing a few weeks ago and was told by most people that I'm the one with the problem because why would I ever need to adjust my ringer volume on a regular basis. I guess some people don't want louder volume during the day and quieter at night.
