I checked the other wifi threads, and I think my problem is different.
I can use my Verizon xv6800 at work, with WPA2 wireless access. As soon as I go home and turn on the wireless switch, the wifi crashes and i have to reboot my whole phone. I even tried this at my mom's house, and had no problem connecting. It seems to only be at home.
Could there be an issue where there are too many access points broadcasting?
Is there a 3rd party wireless manager I should/could use?
Anyone experience that when charging,
the screen suddenly turns on?
I see it happens a few times during charging. Any solutions? Thanks.
Yeah, been happening to me too.
I noticed if u power off then start up again then put it to sleep, it does not wake up.
I think it might be something to do with market for some reason.

the América happening here. It's happening also when it's not charging. I don't know any solution anyway.
I have the same problem on the first day using but it went away by itself.
mine has been doing that too. at random times, the screen wakes up. perhaps the proximity sensor is too sensitive? i *think* that it only happens when i'm just a few feet away from it.
Mine has been doing it as well. I ended up doing a factory reset. So far it has not done it again. Mine was happening while not charging. Not sure if it was while charging.

OK after my factory reset it has started doing it again. Hopefully a fix will be available soon.
Adressing the problem
ADRESSING THE PROBLEM:
I have this 'bug' so now and then...... and I have found the 'problem' : it's the wifi connection between the accesspoint and the tab! I can replicate the 'problem'.
1) on my work no problem. Iconia stays asleep. Router/accesspoint : Thomson
2) at home, downstairs..... problems. Randomly it wakes up. Router/accesspoint : D-Link
3) at home, 2nd floor no problem. Device stays asleep. Accesspoint : Sitecom
So I have adressed the problem to the D-link router. Then I tried different wireless settings in the wifi setup (b/g/n connections, wpa/wpa2/no sec) no luck. The search continues.
It's a first direction. Don't search in apps or something else because I can adress the problem to the router (type).
=> please confirm

I am going to check this theory out. My main access point is a dlink. My alternative point is my older linksys. I'll post a confirmation shortly.

Unfortunately I don't think this is the issue as I have a linksys router.
I believe the issue has something to do with syncing/wifi activity as it does not happen when wifi is off.
OK after testing the two different routers I have had no issues on my linksys. The dlink was causing issues. However I am not sure it is necessarily the router as much as it may be the type of security. My linksys is set for WEP while my dlink is setup for WPA & WPA2. This could be a cause. My tab is working normal now on the WEP secured linksys. I am too lazy to change my router's security settings to verify further since it now works.

I also have a Dlink DIR 655 router and was having the same issue when my acer was connected through N mode. Switching it to use B/G fixed the screen from randomly turning on and off. Hopefully someone has a fix for this.

I will write a little app that will close down wifi when the screen is turned off and will activate it again when the screen is turned on. Maybe this will work as a temporary work around till Acer fixed the problem.

There's a setting under Wifi that allows you to have wifi turn off when the screen turns off, never when charging or never at all. When your screen comes on, so will wifi. The disadvantage of course is that you lose all notification abilities of the tablet when the screen is off as it won't get emails/ims/etc.

Ahh, ok. Sorry I haven't read where anyone has tried that.
GL then.
I too am having the same issue. I use a cisco valet router and notice yesterday that while my tab was sitting on my table the screen would radomly come on. Not exactly sure if it's an issue related to a router, and I am using just wirelss N. I wonder if there is a way to get some sort of dmesg or log or what ever the hell its called to see what the system is detecting at the time the issue arises. If there is a dev to point us in the right direction I would gladly post a log of some sort if I new how to pull it in the first place.
I think this is caused by various programs wanting to synchronize data / mail at different times while it is sleeping. My tab does this when the screen is off; if I quickly push the sleep button when it first comes up it seems to stop it for quite a while. If I have wifi off, it does not do it at all.
Bob
Since the update, WiFi fails to connect to the Router after several starts (sleeps).
Upon entering the WiFi control panel, you notice it's stuck at "Obtaining IP Address" indefinitely.
The only way to resolve the problem seems to be to manually shutdown the WiFi and restart it again.
The problem reappears after several sleeps.
i have the same problem... whenever I wake my tf up I have to shut off then turn on the wifi. Annoying!
I always leave the wifi on as a result. Normally if I pull the power on my router, it'll fix it.
I had this initially at work when I first acquired the unit, but my Froyo phone couldn't get an IP either so I figured it was work related. Every day since then it has worked seamlessly everywhere.
Got the same issue, have to switch Wifi off and back on to fix it. Still running 3.0.1 though, hopefully this gets fixed. What versions are the previous posters using?
Not seeing an issue on mine. Running 3.1.
I had this issue too ever since flashing PRIME 1.4 and going from 3.0 to 3.1 but as time passed this happened less frequently and now it happens once in a long while. I believe (not sure though) that the update downgrades the wifi (drivers or whatever) version as some other things (gps too i think). maybe that causes the issue.
I've seen this also with my stock 3.1 16GB. Doesn't happen all the time, but enough to be annoying.
So I find it's best not to leave the tablet attached to the dock because of the dock battery draining issue, and now maybe it's best not to use the wifi power savings mode because of this problem.
I have been experiencing weird issues with the network I built at my own business. I have 4 pc's, a NAS and a printer connected to my router. Previously I had 2 pc's via direct connections into the router along with the NAS and printer and the other 2 pc's and my Galaxy S phone connected via wireless. The minute I introduced the Transformer to the network (after discovering the Transformer couldn't see channel 13 and having to change my router to a lower channel) I have had issues.
Everything would work fine until I used the Transformer on the network and then the wireless would go down within a matter of hours and be unresponsive until I rebooted. I eventually connected all pc's to the router via a powerline socket network and only had the phone and transformer via wireless as I needed the pc's connected reliably.
I have eventually found that the only way to have the wireless working fine is to either not use the Transformer at all with it or (the option I am using now) to have the router only use B & G ranges and to turn of N. I wonder if there is issues with the drivers for the wifi regarding the N standard (could be a stupid question but I know zero about network standards / drivers).

Ive had this issue when I first got my TF with 3.0. It was still there after updating to 3.1. Someone here mention to set your wifi to static ip. I did and the problem is gone now.
So I've been using my Kindle Fire for a couple of weeks now, and I've found a problem that's been hindering my use.
When I am (decently) far from my router, my Wifi on the Kindle Fire keeps dropping and then it reconnects. The connection is still at around 2 bars whenever it does it. I don't understand, because with my smaller phone (HTC Sensation 4G), my Wifi does not do this...
Is this a firmware issue (I am not rooted) or is it unique to my device? I have updated the firmware and everything...
Thanks.
I've been running into this exact problem (non-rooted KF). For the first few weeks, I had zero issues.
Now suddenly, I can't seem to stay connected for more than a few minutes at a time.
Even standing literally next to the router produces the same results.
I use plenty of other wireless devices in the house and I've never ran into any of these problems.
I'm using a Netgear WNDR4500; not a cheap router by any means.
I did a little research the other day, this seems to be a somewhat well-documented problem. Doesn't seem like any solutions have been found yet, though. I noticed the problem only seems to happen when the Kindle has been on standby for a few days. A restart seems to stop all the disconnects, at least for a few days.
maybe cleaning up saved networks helps
to do this:
disable wifi
open /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf and delete everything exempt the first two lines:
Code:
ctrl_interface=tiwlan0
update_config=1
save the file (beware the permissions rw-rw----)
enable wifi
you start with a wifi configuration like out of the box

don't really know cause mine is rooted - you can try it with es file explorer or any other which reaches the file - if you can't safe it then you need root - but i don't think so cause it has write permissions to the user group
KF's WiFi does seem to be a bit wonky... I've had trouble associating with networks a few times, required a reboot/toggling WiFi on and off.
Does anybody have this problem with a custom rom? If not, it could be Amazon trying to do something funky with powersaving. On my dm1z, if I set my WiFi adapter to "max power saving mode", I see very similar behavior...
The wifi on the kindle is great....it probably has to do with interference in your network. Try changing the channel you use for your network.
So, I compared another kindle fire to mine and it did not have the problem...I guess I will be calling amazon for a new one.

There's no 2.4ghz network within about 1500 feet of my home (and I know what channel that network is on), so I really doubt that's the problem.
As I stated above, as soon as I restart the KF, the wifi works perfectly for a while. It's only happens after the KF has been on standby for about 4-5 days; that's when the connectivity issues start.
The only reason I'm here (over the amazon forums) is because people here actually know what they are talking about. Everyone over there has the generic "it's your network" response. I manage networks for a living, something is most definitely not working correctly on the KF. When the parents came over, I had them test their KF (I made sure it was on standby for at least a few days); I had no problem staying connected.
I have the same issue and I'm running CM7. I'm constantly having to disable and then re-enable wifi to jump start it. Phones never have this issue on my home network and this is the only network that my Kindle has ever connected to.

my wifi on my fire is stronger than on my infuse
Wifi strength isn't the issue for me, it's plenty strong.
The issue is that it cuts out in the middle of me using it, which leads to me turning wifi off and then back on.
Mine does this after it's been on standby for awhile, The wifi won't turn on and i have to do a reboot to get it working. had the problem with KF 6.2.1 And CyanogenMod7, seems to be the hardware.

only a possibillity:
do you use manual ip-settings on the kf ? - it don't seem to like that
and if you switch wifi off and on again instead of rebooting - does it work again ?
seems to be a common problem ...
I don't use manual ip settings.
Turning Wifi off and then back on works for me but it's kind of annoying.
I too have had this happen twice since I got my fire 12/23. There is no problem with anything else connected to the network. Turning the network on and off does not help nor does rebooting the kindle. I have run wifi analytics and it does not see my network. The only solution is to reboot the router. I have not rooted mine yet either.
If this is a known problem with the fire hardware I will need to contact CS. Hopefully I will not need to go to the hastle of returning it.
i have this problem too - very rare but have it also - reboot the router and everything is ok again - every other device connects flawlessly - seems like a problem of the router (linksys 160nl)
Hi I've got problem with my N7 and maybe anyone else experienced it and have some solutions to this ?
After not using my N7 for little longer when I try to wake it up it doesn't connect to wi-fi automatically. I mean the wi-fi icon is there and wi-fi is ON but the icon is grey. I have to turn the wi-fi off and on in settings then icon in right upper corner of the screen gets blue again and I can browse internet etc.
It's not really a big deal but it can be frustrating sometimes, especially when you wait ages for page to load and then you realize that wi-fi is dead again.
I've got my N7 only two days but this already happened like 5 times.
Got other devices that connect to the same router and they are all working fine. HTC HD7, Nitendo 3DS, Acer Laptop, PS3.
Using D-Link router with WPA-Personal WPA-2 Only security settings.
Any idea how to fix this ?

No problem here with Linksys WRT54GS running OpenWRT firmware and also my phone's hotspot. It's probably the crappy firmware in your Dlink access point router. Try a newer version from Dlink or try an alternative from OpenWRT, Tomato, etc.
I've got latest firmware on my router.
Tried to change settings in my N7 with static IP but that didn't helped either.
same issue here
I have the same problem on my N7. It's the same whether I'm using it on my Airport Extreme or wrt54g.
Wake from sleep, see WiFi status icon all gray, no internet access. Turn WiFi off then on, reconnects and I'm on my way. Very annoying after the 50th+ time.
Mine wakes up in airplane mode and I have to press the power button to turn airplane mode off.
When the wifi icon is grey, it just mean that you´re not connected to Google Servers, but you can still use the internet.
When it connect to google servers the icon turns blue.
And i think that when the screen goes off it disconnect from google servers, and then it try to connect again when the device is waked up.
I did not know that. I learned something new today!
Bit ot, what about the bluetooth icon? Most of the time it is gray connected with tablet talk. Sometimes blue? Really thought the icons just did not refresh right away.
