How to root Huawei U8800 Pro - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

Because I couldn't find step by step procedure how to root and install recovery console on Huawei U8800 Pro, I decided to write it myself.
This procedure was tested on Windows 7 64bit and Android 2.2.2 Froyo.
Installing USB drivers
1. Download USB drivers from here http://www.mediafire.com/?5z6i5cv8l6br292
2. Connect your phone to USB on your computer
3. Follow these steps to install USB driver http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html#Win7
Rooting
4. Download SuperOneClick v2.2 from here ftp://shortfuse.org/SuperOneClick/Packages/SuperOneClickv2.2-ShortFuse.zip
5. Extract ZIP content
6. Right click SuperOneClick.exe and select "Run as administrator". This is very important!!!
7. Wait till it says that your phone is rooted
Installing unofficial Clockwork Mod Recovery 5.0.2.7
8. Download and install Root explorer from here http://getandroidstuff.com/download-root-explorer-android-v23/
9. Follow these instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1343276
With this procedure I successfully rotted my phone and installed recovery 5.0.2.7. With this recovery console u will be able to install whatever ROM u like. Just remember to create backup of your official ROM first!!! I needed it badly when I discovered that new MIUI for U8800 Pro is not working as expected.
Backup can be a life saver!!!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the SuperOneClick method does not work on Gingerbread. I've rooted mine by replacing the boot.img with the one in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1326525

All credits to Arise - from this forums , use this method to root SGS on 2.3 :
- flash with Odin Lastufo's Ultimate kernel - 4_8_1 worked for me
- after flash enter directly to CWM (trying to boot wont work) and install from there root (superuser + busybox)
- after that reboot in download mode and flash with Odin Gingerbread kernel
Afther flashing the Gingerbread kernel reboot and you will have your phone rooted
I cannot post here the Gingerbread kernel , since i dont have rights maybe someone can post it
Once again the credits goes to Arise for sharing this method !!!
LE: it seems that i can add attchments after all - in the attachement is the Gingerbread kernel

Hi sorry friend but my method is only to revert back to previous roms not for rotting 2.3. Sorry for the confusion!
Rooting is already now possible using CF-Root. You must flash package via 3e recovery. Link to post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9920908&postcount=3
Good luck. I am going to wait for custom rom dev's to work on this before using it again. Am very happy with essential rom tweaked how I like it.

Thanks for helping you 2!
is any kind of rooting fine or do i HAVE to use to root method(link) that you provided me?
there are 2 main popular methods for rooting, the gfree method, which is what he posted, and the root.sh method, which is what i used below. i dont know which is better/worse but i found the root.sh method to be a little easier
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858021
Yes definitely try the root.sh method first, if that doesn't work try the gfree method...just make sure u read up on adb first.

Step one ) First thing you need to do is read, study and understand 100% what rooting ones phone truly is and how it's done. And what can happen if you are not careful.
Step Two ) repeat step one
Step Three ) See Step One
Step Four ) get ADB up and running ( see my signature )
Step Five ) See Step one
Step Six ) decide if you want to risk it [ see This Thread ]
Step Seven ) Root your phone (see my signature )
Step eight ) make sure you have the engineering screen installed along with rooting the phone
step nine ) install the recovery image via hBoot
Step ten ) download > wipe > flash the ROM.
Thanks for all your help. Im installing it now and it seems to going fine. Thanks :d:ddd:d:d:d:d:d:d:d:d:d

Can't install CWM recovery

Hello, I've been trying to install CWM recovery, I have been able to do so previously, but recently I've gone back to stock 2.2, to get the 2.2 kernel, and since then nothing works. I've replace the recovery.img in the system/bin manually through a file manager, through adb too, but when I reboot to recovery, its still the default one. Any help is appreciated.
You should be installing recovery.img through the "pink recovery screen". Are you doing that? Make sure you're installing CWM 5.0.2.6. The instructions in that thread are great (follow the "new install" method).
recovery.img should be in "/cust_backup/image/" directory..
Yeah, worked now. My bad for not reading the instructions.

there is nothing different between 522 and 526 but added power control to notifications bar.
try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457490&page=5
and would you plz tell me what is the version of your recovery?
mine is "3e", it,s quiet old and there is no enough options.
I have to be sure everything in my phone is normal as others.
r.e
that's very easy to change recovery.only use root explore, copy the new recovery.img to /.cust_backup/image/ folder, and cover it.of course you have root it before!

In sdk manager select android platform tools and asus drivers and install them once thats done open command prompt and go to the directory containing adb for me it was c:/android-sdk/platform-tools
Ensure debbuging mode and asus sync are turned on on your tf101 plug it up and the run the command
adb devices
this will tell if adb sees your device. If it does then run the command
adb shell
then just follow rest of instructions under method 3 in wolf post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622628

I just tried this after installing the new 9.2.1.24 (downloaded from Asus), and it seems to work. I followed Wolf's method 3 without any modifications. I have a TF101, US model.

What BLOB file did you use
well yes, through CWM one can install su-binary then.
but through CWM you will loose OTA-updates!
just look at the time between .21 and now .24... it is quite comfortable as it is.
why can't we use such a "file linking trick" to mount /system and install su-bin directly?
You can't write to /system as it's mounted read only.
What you can do is keep a copy of mmcblk0p4 before writing the new recovery, then flash it back after rooting. That way you keep your ability to upgrade next time around.
good idea!
I'm still a bit unsure about this RECOVERYBLOB flashing,
but if nothing else comes up I can resort to this.

Do you have CWM (ClockWorkMod) Recovery installed? If not, you have to go into pink screen, connect the phone to the computer, and replace the recovery.img with cwm recovery.img. CWM can be downloaded from the Android Development section of u8800.
