Best longterm ROM? - GT540 Optimus General

Hello together,
well I have a new phone now (MOTO Defy). I want to give the GT540 to my brohter. He isn't that interested in technical stuff and it will be his first Android phone. So I want to ask you what you think is the best Rom for him?
He don't need that much features, but a stable running rom, with good battery and not that much preinstalled apps. Also it would be very good, if there is not that much on the todo-list of this rom, because I think he don't like to update the Rom "every week".
At the moment I'm really looking forward to airbus360's Froyo Optimum v7.0. I think it should be very stable, has a easy to use UI (Tochwiz looking Launcher) and seems to be nearly final.
What to you think or suggest?

airbus's froyo optimum will be the best choice for that ;D

Well, I too am waiting for froyo optimum, but honestly.I recommend Eleganceswift or Greendroid 2.1 is just the most fastest, stable and lasting os(for now) on our devices oh and great choiche taking the Defy that fathermucker will last

Okay, now after Froyo Optimum v7.0 has not been released and also finding some bugs in current version I tried EleganceSwift 5.0. And this ROM really rocks! Look great, is very fast and the UI is easy to use.
I think NoDze is right about suggesting 2.1 Roms for this purpose.

Finding the right Rom

hi there,
Does someone has an advice for me concerning a good rom?
Here are my most important wishes:
1. 100% stable
2. Good battery life
3. Sense (would be good but no must hav)
4. Gingerbread would be great but froyo works as well
My device: htc hd2 leo eu 512mb
It would be awesome if some of you could help me out. There are just too much roms out there. And I cannot Decide wich to chose.
Your experience would really help me out.
Thanks a lot

My choiсe is TyphooN CyanogenMod 7.
This ROM is really fast and stable.
Battery usage in quiescence is about 4 mA.
But no Sence... For me this isn't problem, becouse I use Spb Shell 3D.
its all about personal preference, some will recommend sense roms some wont
you will not find a gingerbread fully working rom with sense yet, it is still in the developement stages, it is normally best to test out a few different roms and go with your own choices, personally i cant stand none sense roms due to the keyboard
I recommend you to start trying any from the SD. I have started testing americanandroid and I'm very pleased, too stable.
i prefer this rom:

try pongster build CWM7 2.3.4 gingerbread heady honey badger build search it here, follow the video, its easy some other builds are confusing and no support at all, he has also online support, i got tmobile, all mms works, fast and good battery life. good luck.

[Q] Best Roms and Kernels?

Hello,
I just purchased a used white sim unlocked X10i that should hopefully arrive this Friday. I have been reading through the forums for about a week now and I would like to get the opinions of knowledgeable individuals as to which rom, kernel, optimizations, tweaks, tools and any other useful additions that you believe would be best regarding the X10. I need the 1700Mhz band functional. I am currently running an HTC mytouch slide overclocked with CM7.1 and S2E, which I will eBay as soon as I am up to speed on the X10i and have it running smoothly. I have looked through the “Q & A” and also the “All-in-one Consolidated” threads and found much info. The seller wasn’t sure if the phone has the latest, but I plan on making sure the phone has the latest official OS update for firmware (2.3.3?). The rooting & recovery I believe I have handled http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1196808&highlight=rooting+how+to I would like to run S2E or something like it.http://forum.xdadevelopers.com/showthread.php?t=1271284 Also, is it true that the X10 should only be overclocked to about 1,150Mhz?
Thank you all in advance.
Max overclock is 1.228ghz i think but it varies as not every X10 can handle it. You can test my ROM haha, its stock 2.3.3 with Tweaks, new Features, some 2.3.4 apps from new Xperia Arc S and its alot lighter then stock too but doesnt loose any funtionality, but alot nice ROMs are around here, Miui, CM and alot stock based ROMs, im sure you can find anything for your like.

I think Wolfbreaks ROM is a veery good ROM, and you should definitely try that ROM first.
Then feel free to try my MIUI rom haha.

Hero users, what ROM are you on?

Please, no discussion on what's better..

I'm just curious, aren't you?.. is a poll..
I think it's interesting, waiting for more people to vote
Currently on Speedmachine v4 because I need a little stronger battery compared to GB roms, so voted for other. Otherwise it would be DeckedX.
The main problem here is that you can't change your vote, so when I flash a new rom i can't update :/

Anyway, it seems that this survey failed as long as I could not provide those "other" ROMs .. sorry
Very interesting thread.
I've currently hoped from Ligux 2.3.7 to heroine 2.1 sense.. The pure speed of this Rom is phenominal, I mean just when pulling down the status bar for example you really feel the smoothness.. and its actually in real time, so doesn't come down 5 seconds later. But yeah I've figured that I don't need android 2.3 or 2.2, all the upgrades are really unecessary for me personally. All I need is calls, text and whatsapp. If I needed games or web truthfully this phone would have been long gone by now.
I use the official CyanogenMod 6.1 release, with Flykernel 13 @264-576. Stable, battery life of 2-4 days, decent speed, vanilla Froyo.
Eclair wasn't really an option, I think it's quite behind the newer versions, I hate Sense and Gingerbread never run smoothly enough on Hero, so vanilla Froyo was the best compromise for me.
Why didn't I go with one of the local ROMs? Not to offend anyone, but most of the CM6 ROMs here are butchered, full of ugly themes and unnecessary changes. Show me one that runs better than my configuration and I'll be happy to change to it.
I'm using CyanogenMod 7 but i think i'll revert to some 2.2 rom like FroydVillain ot CM6, not sure yet
why don't have Elelinux-7.1-Hero-v3.6 Android 2.3.7 it is one of the best roms
Decked x ligux
Sent from my Hero using xda premium
I think if you looking at performance and stable Elelinux-7.1-Hero-v3.6 and cyanogenmod are the best choice for Htc Hero
Elelinux, last one (7.1 v3.6), not the light or the Custom version, just the standar one with the default kernel

Getting My Desire HD

Hi, i should have my Desire HD soon and am very excited.
I recently sold a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 (was rooted) and was wondering whether or not i should root my new phone and why...
The reason i rooted my previous smartphone was to make it faster but this one has three times the RAM etc. So would it be worth it now?
Also, does Juice Defender require root? It really helped my battery life with my Xperia X10...
Thank in advance!
I have one myself I have it rooted and installed with a custom rom called "Android Revolution HD™ 7.0.0" Great custom rom, would be a shame to not install ;D
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840040
Why not go for an ICS version? The IceColdSandwich is really nice, have a look at the android development forum of DHD.
While you are still waiting for your brand new DHD, why not prepare yourself with AAHK (advanced ace hack kit) and some good custom ROM. I would recomend you to try Android Revolution HD 6.3.2 (official base with Sense 3.0) or newer 7.0.0 (Sensation XL base with Sense 3.5).
Just don't wait too long to just rooted your phone and install custom ROM, cause once you have grip with good custom ROM like those cooked by mike1986 or JSLEnterprise you will never wanna go back to stock ROM with their bloated app.
I would second IceColdSandwich. Lord did a fantastic job and it has really made me appreciate my phone. When I got my Inspire (same difference as a dhd) it was really only because I needed a phone, this was free with ATT and I couldn't afford one of the "fancier" ones. Since going with an pics from, however, it feels like my phone is top of the line. Does everything I need it to do and now I can really care less if I have the newest released phone. There are still a few bugs, but Lord has been updating like mad recently so its only a matter of time before they get sorted out

Hey dude. Certainly yes to rooting it
As for Roms to use, a can recommend RCMIX3D Roms and Android Revolution Roms.
My experience of ICS Roms is not good.
But then I use my camera and camcorder loads, and they are the things that are not yet fully operational in any ICS rom.
ICS is coming to the DHD soon anyway, so properly cooked ICS Roms are not far away.
Best of luck dude.
Greg.

If you really need the root privileges then go for it otherwise you could wait a couple of months since ICS updates with sense 3.5 are going to be rolling for the DHD later this year. If you don't care about that update then get Ace hack kit, root it and I would recommend LeeDroid 5.1.1.
Good Luck!

Expert Recommendations... ("keeper" ROM... if any)

first and foremost I would like to say hi to all my fellow xda members... I am really glad to see how immortal the HD2 is, luckily that mine is still alive and kicking up to this point. now, I recently got the Nexus 7 and been enjoying it.
I've been away for quite some time and been struggling of which android ROM to flash on my HD2. been reading a lot of thread and with so many ROM available here its kinda confusing of which one to flash, the most stable and would be great on everyday usage without any severe issues. In that way I can avoid flashing and testing every ROM now and then.
This is where I need your expert advice based on real life experience on the ROM that you have used and served you well. I know that some of you will say that what the thread is for but the thing is... it will take me forever to read all the thread upon each and every ROM out here.
I would like some recommendations and straight forward advises on which ROM to flash. close to stock as possible.
Thanks and Best Regards,
MykeChester

In short, he's asking for the best ROM.
There is no best ROM, you can give tytung's ROMs a shot, they are the most popular.
In terms of stability, I'd rate GB as first, ICS second and 3rd as Jelly Bean.
I do know the fact that is no best ROM out there ... thanks for the advice . would like to know are there any ROM that can be a keeper out here?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
No one can tell you that. Or to be specific, we won't agree on a single ROM, but rather everyone is going to tell you that his rom is the best and a keeper (For instance, I am using tytung's ICS, you can find it in my sig).
It all depends on your personal preference, your use and your requirements.
For example, ICS and JB have Hardware Acceleration, i.e. games and apps run faster. But I wouldn't vouch for them in terms of stability. Most Gingerbread ROMs lack HWA, which means apps won't run very fast, but on the other hand, it is stable and fluid throughout the system. MIUI has some eye candy and it's kind of fast, sense is also eye candy but is slow. So if you prefer eye candy over performance, you'd go with sense.
See? I can't just tell you a ROM that is a keeper, because basically all ROMs are good.

I've had my HD2 for a couple of months now and was lucky enough to use NexusHD2-ICS-4.0.4-CM9-HWA V2.8 from the very start
No glitches, no crashes, perfect for everyday use.
Only problem I have found was with playback fof streams from tvcatchup.com, but all other supported video on YouTube etc seems to be working fine.
