G1 data has to be wiped to power on. Every-time - G1 General

my brothers G1 has to be wiped in order to be booted in to the rom.
And this happens in all the roms. I re-flashed radio SPL but still if we switch it off and turn it on again its stuck at the g1 logo.
and to get around we have to wipe all data and re-flash the rom. Sometimes a data wipe will fix the issue and bootup but the data and apps haven't been effected. Every time we have to do this in order to use it
Anyone have any idea on this? I searched but couldn't find anything like this.
Any comment is highly appreciated .Thanks

There are probably extraneous files/data that are not being wiped and interfering with your installs.
Try this (warning: this will require a reflash, so back up any stuff you want to keep).
Boot into fastboot (power-camera for G1 or power-back for MT3G):
fastboot erase system -w
Click to collapse
Then shut down, boot into recovery and do a super-wipe.
Now, reformat the sdcard.
Then do:
mount -a
Click to collapse
from adb to make sure that the sdcard is mounted.
Then push the rom and other necessary extras to the sdcard and install.
I'm pretty sure that should clear things up, if you want to be REALLY sure that everything is fine, you can re-flash recovery right after the fastboot erase.

Can't wipe Dalvik-cache from Recovery?

It gives me an error "Run 'wipe dalvik' via ADB.
Should I be able to run it from the recovery? I suspect my recovery ROM copied incorrectly. Is there any way I can reflash the ROM without doing a factory reset and re-rooting.
If not, then will doing a factory reset via Recovery work? And will the phone need to be reprogrammed to work on Sprint with my number, etc?
Thanks!

Go download the 1.5.2 recovery ROM, flash it the same way you did the original instructions are there. If you still have the issue, post back.
I have had simaler problems in the past and sometimes I was able to just reboot the system and use the fresh kitchen go to create nandroid backup in the kitchen it used adb to reboot into recovery and then everything worked fine after that.
on the other hand there have been a couple times where I just had to bite the bullet RUU and reroot then flash a backup.
hope this helps a little

HAHA Refresh every hour or so lol.
But I was reposting to say that you should try to wipe from the pre kitchen and see what happens there.
I re-pushed and flashed 1.5.2 recovery. I still get the "run wipe davilk from ADB" error when trying to wipe it from within the recovery rom.
What do you mean wipe it from pre-kitchen? Could someone please post some instructions.
Is there a command to run it via CMD?

I get force closes on any update I do. I thought clearing the cache fixes this problem?
If not can someone point me to instructions on starting from scratch? I would like to factory reset it but I need to know if I'll have to re-activate the phone to work on Sprint, or if it just works?
They are talking about on the Fresh Pre Kitchen 0.2 . Also if you do a wipe you will not have to activate the phone it will just reinstall the OS. I actually clearfed rteh cache using the pre-kitchen and it works fine now

Oh, so I did a factory reset, re-rooted the phone, and installed Modaco's newest custom ROM.
I'm still getting force closes.
If I clear the cache will it fix the errors?
it depends if you just used the wipe data/factory reset in the recovery menue or if you actually used the RUU to reflash back to stock. if you used the RUU then yes you will have to reroot if you just used the recovery menue then no you will not have to.

I have some problems.
I can not wipe cache and after install ROM I've got 'Force Close' apps.
How can I resolve that issues? I install again ROM and still ocurs errors.
Pls give me instructions what I must do.
Thanks
Why was I referred to this as a fix? For one, the command isn't even posted. Is their a command to wipe the dalvik-cache? If yes, what is the command that I would run?
I notice two options:
-w
Wipe the data partition
-d
Flash the data partition
Well if you don't use a2sd, this is the fix
That's a known "issue", the wipe script gives an error because it tries to wipe the dalvik-cache from the ext partition after it erased the dalvik-cache from /data. Since you don't have an ext partition it will exit and throw the error.
Don't worry about it, your dalvik-cache IS WIPED, even when you see the error.
Thanks regaw_leinad,
I kept attempting it with the latest fresh-toast rom but it would continue rebooting. It's the only rom that wouldn't have a successful dalvik wipe. I gave up and went back to damageless's SprintUpdate2.zip.
Thanks,
Zac

Can't wipe or make any changes. Reverts on reboot!

I cant make any changes to my phone. Every time I reboot it reverts back to the state it was this morning. I'm on CM7.
My phone was crashing today, so I decided to do a wipe, however on reboot everything reverts back to the state it was this morning.
I tried doing a nandroid restore using TWRP. Restore completed successfully, but everything reverts back to today's state on reboot.
I tried wiping everything in TWRP, but on reboot everything is reverted as if i had not done anything
Thinking TWRP was the problem i installed clockworkmod and did multiple wipes, but on reboot everything reverted
I have tried doing a Format system, data, etc and no matter what everything reverts back on reboot
I tried re-installing CM7, but again everything reverts back
I tried installing CM9 and it would not boot at all. I then re-installed CM7 and when i rebooted everything reverted to today's state.
Even if i uninstall an app, remove widgets, or anything, on reboot everything reverts back
When I try to wipe using system settings, I get the following error message "Invalid Path: null"
At this point I'm out of ideas. I want to do a full wipe and do a fresh rom flash. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
One more detail. I set the alarm on the phone for 7:00am last night, however the alarm went off at 6:30am which was the time I set it to the night before. I assume the phone rebooted on its own during the night and set the alarm back to what it was the day before. Thanks in advance if anyone has some insight.
No idea what the hell is going on with the phone.
Full wipe and flash the official factory images onto your phone with fastboot. They are here. https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images

I actually just did the wipe via fast boot then installed the rom via clockwork. I performed the fastboot -w command.
I also just flashed Twrp again. Mounted the SD card, deleted all files on the SD card. SD card showed full capacity. I then unmounted and remounted and all files returned. I dont get any errors in clockwork or twrp yet they are unable to do anything and have it stick.
Within the rom i mounted The SD card and deleted all my files in windows. I took about 15 seconds and everything looked clear. I then unmounted and mounted again and all files appear. Its almost like i don't have write access to the phone, but there are zero error messages during deletes and wipes
Only thing left to try is stock screwing around with a ROM / cmw etc and flash factory images with fastboot.
Sounds like it may not work but try it. Was your device encrypted?
Can try a fastboot OEM lock and unlock and flash back all factory images. If that don't work you're Sol I suppose. Could try odin but if fastboot flash factory images dont work I don't see that working either.
It sounds like the sd card becomes read-only

Encryption unlocked & rooted?

I've been reading something that interested me.
https://www.reddit.com/r/MotoX/comments/2kx2lv/how_do_you_encrypt_a_rooted_moto_x/
Specifically.
I had the same issue today. Booted into safe mode, then I was able to encrypt.
Press power button to get power off popup menu. Press and hold power off. You will get another popup offering to reboot in safe mode.
Safe mode worked. This uncomplicates my process of rooting, unrooting, encrypting, and having issues rerooting after encryption. This is also a crazy easy single step process for an issue that has given me months of headaches.
You shall be the first person ever that I have given gold to.

What are your guys thoughts on encryptimg a unlocked and rooted phone?

Um I haven't had a problem and I've encrypted the software many times as I have installed many rooms and I always encrypt after setting everything up post root so it should just work without issue. Maybe they just weren't being patient and it can take a bit of time

What about unencrypting? To say to flash a new kernel or rom?
Well that's an interesting question. I am testing twrp builds from hashbang to try and get encryption fully supported for this device in twrp. Until that time you can actually still flash zips via adb sideload no problem

Ohh. Cool. I'll have to learn adb.
@timde9
I've got twrp installed.
To get to recovrry mode, do I go into recovery mode in twrp and then the recovery button in twrp to install packages m zips from adb?
to install packages via adb is pretty simple really you just open twrp go to advanced menu and open "adb sideload" from there. Then connect your device to your computer install adb and sideload an app with this syntax
"adb sideload ***.zip"
That is radical. Ty for this.
Encryption went like a breeze.
took no more than 20 min. I feel safe now.

Just found out after encrypting twrp fails to mount data to backup. I might restore without encryption. That way I have access to backups on my phone too.
So I am having a problem restoring a backup. Since I cannot decrypt, to get rid of data from being locked down, do I flash with a rom? I am stuck.
Ok I have to do a factory reset. But not sure if this exists and works through twrp. Or if I have to do a factory reset some otherway.
Ok I skipped trying to reinstall rom and did a little searching.
This guy but with a 6P had exact issue.
For me to wipe data I need to
Code:
fastboot format userdata

Upon reading this again, just to be safe, you might want to start with just a fastboot erase. I think format does the same thing, but I have never used it.
Since you would be specifying the partition with both commands, I do not think you are in risk of completely blowing up your user partition if you choose to use fastboot format, but once again, I have always just used fastboot erase.

5. How To Install A ROM with TWRP Recovery
Prerequisites: unlocked bootloader, TWRP recovery.
Installing a ROM is a pretty straight forward and easy process. Before you install anything you should make a nandroid backup (instructions above).
Download a ROM and appropriate Gapps package and place on your device.
Boot into your custom recovery.
Perform a full wipe.
Select the wipe option from the TWRP home screen.
Select advanced wipe.
Check the system, data, cache, and dalvik cache options.
Swipe to wipe.
Install the ROM.
Select the install option from the TWRP home screen.
Navigate to where you have the ROM zip stored on your sd card and select it.
Swipe to install.
Most ROMs will run an installer script at this point but some ROMs have what is called an Aroma Installer which allow you to choose some install options before the script runs.
You will also need to install the appropriate gapps package directly after installing the ROM.
Once you've installed all necessary zips you'll have an option to wipe cache/dalvik and an option to reboot system. Wipe the cache/dalvik, hit the back button, and hit the reboot system button.

[URGENT] Any way to recover my data after flashing a rom?

Dear all
My Nexus 6p was hard bricked yesterday and keep bootloop. I did flash twrp and a stock image by adb but the phone still could not turn on.
I try to use the hair dryer to heat my phone like this way (youtube.com/watch?v=fVghgGWoWa4) (sorry that I am a new user and I cant post the link)
And then my phone can be booted into the system but all of my data lost since I did flash the stock rom.
So may I ask that is there any way for me to recover back my data in this case? ( especially app data and my photo since there are some extremely important data for me......)
Thanks so much and appreciate for your help!!!

Hello,
How did you flash a stock ROM with ADB? adb sideload? Full OTA? Shouldn't have wiped internal storage.
Or you flashed a factory image from bootloader with flash-all script? Or fastboot flash?
If you used flash-all or you fastboot flashed userdata.img, i think your datas are lost.
Good luck...

Hello,
You should likely have thought about it before flashing a factory image...
Maybe there are professional forensic tools that could work. But unfortunately i don't know their names or where to find them.

I have never thought that I can save it with a hair dryer I brought my phone to the mobile fixing shop and they did say the phone could not be fixed therefore i just flashed the image and try.
Thanks anyway
If there are any way to save the data, please let me know!!

Looks like fail to flash a ROM because forgot to unlocked bootloader or wipe data in recovery mode, while the ROM you flashed is a stock one, no a custom one. If you have unlocked bootloader, you can see a lock appear in the boot screen.
You can go to the recovery mode and try to fix your brick phone by wipe data and cache partition, maybe you can boot you phone successfully after doing these.
You data is not really gone, in fact, you can recover the data by using some tool.

Hey,
This tool seems designed for a phone that bootloop. Not a device which userdata partition has been wiped and overwritten afaik...
Cheers...
I know it's too late.
I normally edit the flash_all to *NOT* wipe the phone and only do an update.
You can have your photos if Google sync is on, but your App data is gone.
Yeah the flash-all script includes a -w wipe command. You could of removed it before flashing to keep data. But after that it's bye bye baby. The only way is probably some type of software forensics tool. But keep searching cause I don't everything and maybe you can tell the FBI there info on it about terrorist and they can brute force in. Then you got your pics back.

HELP with resetting wifi config on V11.0.0.IN11BA

hey guys, i really need your help urgently.
i just finished setting up my OP8Pro to my needs and then i restored wifi networks from my Titanium Backup from Android 8, i booted and it won't boot anymore.
i get a FATAL EXCEPTION IN SYSTEM PROCESS: WifiHandlerThread...
so now i need to reset these settings via stock recovery and i already modified my recovery to enable ADB but i can't access /data
anyone has a hint for me how to access /data and where to find the wifi config on Android 11?
it's not stored in /data/misc/wifi anymore :/
thanks a lot in advance!
You can reset WiFi within WiFi settings in settings.
But I would probably just clear data on the app you restored either in settings/apps or simply via titanium.
If it still fails then boot to recovery and wipe system.
Your storage will remain unaffected.
You could also try safe mode, power off and hold vol up and down as soon as you see the bootloader warning
Fyi I wouldn't bother restoring WiFi passwords like that, there's other ways of doing it.
Google can back these up for you for example, there are apps which can do it like swift (I think can do it)

You'd have to grab one of the fastboot ROMs then flash.
Why can't you open recovery? Isn't your pin / password being accepted?
If it's not and fastboot installation can't be done then honestly I'd just MSM your current firmware..it's easier than fastboot tbh.
You'd need to bootloader unlock after but this is going to wipe everything anyway.

I don't get you mate??
I'm saying that if you use the MSM tool it will lock your bootloader so you'll need to unlock it again.
In regards to your recovery if you can get to it then choose English, then wipe, then system, then wipe system.
That will get you back like I said in my previous post.
If it's not asking for your pin/password (there is no pattern)
Then you're fine
I've not used that recovery but I don't see a point in using it

sorry i haven't used MSM yet so i didn't know it'll relock the bootloader but i'm more familiar with fastboot flashing so i'd like to stick with that also because i read of problems with the fingerprint reader when relocking the bootloader.
i thought i could delete reset the faulty wifi config via adb by using the adb-enabled stock recovery but i wasn't able to mount /data with it since it's encrypted and it's not asking for my pattern to decrypt it.
neither the stock recovery is asking for it now...
i don't want to lose my data hence i'm looking for a way to get it back running without completely reinstalling.
do you think it could work by only flashing system partition via fastboot?
thanks man!

Use the thanks button buddy
I think you've certainly got a shot at it and what's the worst that can happen?
Did you actually try to wipe system in recovery? That would be my way to go.
MSM is extremely easy but I understand not wanting to lose storage.
That being said if you're correct about decryption then it won't matter anyway

You're very welcome mate, I've done the same a few times..it's not that much of a loss really, a lot of apps pick up where they left off and if you do have titanium then your back ups are retained.
Glad you're sorted.
PS: this would have had the same effect that installing system would have had, only this time you get a clean slate
