Someone got ICS on another Tegra2 device - Atrix 4G General

Some developer got Ice Cream Sandwich running on the Hannspree Hannspad, a device I've never heard of before but looking it up, it has tegra 2. From my understanding the lack of Tegra 2 support was the major roadblock for the Atrix, so perhaps this could help?

Correction: check Turl's github, he created a new branch for ICS a while back. I can't elaborate on this any further since I'm not fluent in any type of code, but it's pretty clear from the keywords in his history that work is being done on 4.0.

Yep Turl's did have something useful there: https://github.com/turl/kernel-moto-atrix4g/commits/CM_kernel_ics
looks like he's working on a kernel.

i just read on Engadget that Motorola Defy is getting ICS ASOP, and that phone is way underpower than Atrix, so my guess is Atrix should definitely get update soon (not from Motorola, of course, rather from our beloved dev team)

I can here by say ics is working fine on a tegra device. As this comment is being typed from my acer iconia a500 running ics one of our devs has been working on it. He has both 2d and 3d hw accerleration working and omg is it amazing. This thing is so so so so fast. Cant wait for it on the atrix. If anyone has any questions ill answer to the best of my ability

Tegra2 ICS
Well, I for one would like to know where I can sync the tegra2 drivers from..

Good news from the LG camp. They are updating their Optimus 2X to ICS so even if Motorola doesn't update the Atrix, the drivers for Tegra will be available through the LG's ROM.
Let's hope we get the chance of having ICS on this fantastic ROM.
Cheers

Only thing holding up development is the lack of dev's. Nothing else. The few we have that work together did great with CM7, so maybe they can too get ICS going for us.

I don't know if HTC will officially support Ice Cream for our Evo's. I just remember the issues that the devs ran into prior to the official release of GB. I hope I'm wrong because it would be great to have. I also wonder if our hardware even meets the system requirements.

If this (http://androidandme.com/2011/08/news/13-things-we-might-see-with-the-release-of-android-4-0-in-q4/) is correct, any phone running 2.3 should be able to handle ICS.

It's interesting at least that we may start getting hints as to what lies ahead for both Android phones and tablets. I'm sure the CM folks will end up porting, so we'll likely see it on the EVO 4G at some point.
Looks like it's mostly UI changes though. Wish they'd posted a screenie of the Gmail app changes; I love the app but the look of it is plain and ugly.
I honestly doubt the Evo will get ICS, we barely got GB, and its not like that OTA was welcomed with open arms.

Honeycomb was designed for tablets and plus the source was never released to prevent more fragmentation. Icecream is supposed to bridge the gap between gingerbread and honeycomb.
Looks like it will be coming out around the holidays for the Samsung phones

Seeking devs for work on ICS port

Now that cm7 seems close, which means a working AOSP kernel seems closer, any devs wanna work with me to try to port ICS?
All the "real" dev's aren't gonna go anything until ics source comes out. Noone wants ics...because as soon as ics is ported, people are gonna whine about not having cm9.
At the rate our cm7 is going we might actually be part of the cm9 release. Of course this is wishful thinking

We should work more on getting CM7 support official.
ICS is supposed to be similar to Gingerbread API, so if it's official then support should be adopted with the move to CM9.

^ this. You've got to look beyond. I totally agree here, we're so close with Deca's work on CM7 Kang to have it official, that the resources available to us should be embraced. Once Gingerbread is available, getting CM7 official should be everyone's goal, that is, if you want a fully working ICS rom for our epic in the future, and not a half-assed ICS SDK Port. Yeah, the Nexus SDK Port is a super-nice preview of ICS, but really, they already have official GB, so the port from ICS was much more realistic for them. Not to mention their port didn't have to worry about the Touchwiz Framework or whatever. Anyway, not to be a downer, if you guys round people up, then go for it, best of luck. Just know that if you prioritize what's much more important right now, it will lead to what you want in the end anyway.

Well that's really good to hear. CM7 development should be almost done by now...I'm kind of shocked that we haven't had video recording and video playback fully working after 3 weeks of having source.

CM9 (ICS) coming to 10.1...any hope ?

Steve Kondik said this on G+ on Monday November 21th : https://plus.google.com/100275307499530023476/posts/hVw7ykmsvrx
So the 10.1 will have its official CM9 support as expected...it's good news anyway but it's not to say we'll get ICS that easily.
Our options are two :
- the CM team offers official support to the 10.1v as well. Don't hesitate to mention our device in the G+ post I've linked to.
- we'll get ports from the 10.1 CM9 ROM.
Our device just can't die software so soon...
finger crossed
In fact, we've got this time the kernel of ICS. So the dev doesn't need to build a rom from scratch, like previous.
As you an see on XDA is that there "plenty" of New ICS rom, for example i've got one on mu SGS...
We just need a dev. And the lib for the 8mpx camera.
So cross fingers

Same here. Brazil, ZTA... not even an announcement for a far away release of ICS.
I hope Samsung hasn't hidden any secrets away from the released source code (like code to very specific drivers). If they have, having the sources won't suffice for a properly working ICS Galaxy S 2.
on the other hand, this may be an indication that Samsung hasn't been able to correct bugs still present in their pseudo-official ICS release, and this is their last resort: release the code so that the developers community can fix bugs Samsung hasn't be able to fix. Not that Samsung didn't have to make such release - they should and it is high time they do so.
