Hi developers...I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right section, and forgive me if I am...as you know the kindle Fire system dump has been out... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1295928&page=3 . It has been ported to the Samsung galaxy tablet ... http://gigaom.com/mobile/so-i-turned-my-galaxy-tab-into-a-kindle-fire/ ... I was wondering if this can be done on our nook colors ...If a developer can do this...it would be awesome...I would try if I knew how to.. thank you in advance..and once again I'm sorry if I posted in the wrong section

Not really a big job considering its based on the AOSP source. In all reality its just porting the main launcher onto the code. You can use all the proprietaries from cm.

why not, just cause you dont want to have it doesnt mean others will, its all about choices when it comes to android and the more choices we have the better our experience will be
I'd do it...if only to show the flexibility of the NC. Still have no interest in actually BUYING a Kindle Fire though. Still enjoying CM7
I'm gonna try and port it through android kitchen (no guarantees though), this sounds like a great idea to me. Someone with more experience dev'ing should try it as well.
Any luck guys...the launcher on cm7 force closes for me

A bit off topic, but If your launcher is FCing, try launcher pro instead. It works for me on CM7 sd install, and rooted stock.
You could also try an older cm7 install.
As for the fire, I would play with it out of curiosity, but I like the rooted stock for everyday use.

I see, sorry. I was wondering how that would work.
Not knowing much about the system, would you need it to sync to the cloud? If yes, authentication could be a serious issue.
Does it allow non market installs, and can it go to the market?
I am not sure I would be interested if it cannot do these two things. If it could, it may be amusing, but it would have to be silky smooth for me to consider it a prime OS. Since the hardware is significantly slower on the nook, I am betting it is a no go, but that is just conjecture.

The work done actually looks like a port of the apks. The fires UI runs on top of the galaxies UI so CPU and all that doesn't matter. It's just implementing the framework that's the problem.

Capone is right on the money. It's one of the most popular ROMs out there for any phone that dev teams can get it on. Lots of great features, nightlies with small tweaks released frequently, and just overall pure Android goodness.
I just flashed it today for the first time and, despite no fingerprint scanner, it's worth it.
With that said, I cannot figure out CM7 team's fascination with ADW launcher. Go Launcher Ex is a better and faster launcher imho.

It helps that ADW Launcher is open source and has never had to contend with (likely overblown) privacy concerns as has Go. I'm partial to Zeam Launcher myself; it's minimalist, perhaps to a fault, but it is snappy and perfect for low memory devices.

Out of curiosity, what do you mean about Go? I've been using Go for several months now, but when I put CM7 on I decided to give it a whirl. I've decided that Go is just a better launcher all around, but I haven't heard of any privacy concerns.
Also, is CM7 not allowed to just use the stock UI from Google?

Yeah, you could use Launcher2. But I was told it's memory hungry, and overall lacks many important features (like resizing widets)

A while back, before I was really on the Android scene, there some some chatter about Go Launcher requiring internet permissions from Android and sending the phone's IMEI to their servers. I said "unfounded" because lots of apps do that, especially pay apps.
As if there weren't enough threads about it? Didn't u have to make an account to post here? Did u watch the video? Search function and Google are your friends. Good luck all, happy flashing.

I would really like to get a good reason to replace my nook color with a kindle fire, and i've noticed that the kindle fire has already seen tastes of CM7 and ICS (WITHIN A MONTH! ), but the one that would push it over the top would be the MIUI rom. Is there a developer that could work on this?

What ROMs do you guys want? I ported MIUI to epic and am working on other stuff there. I can probably port MIUI ICS when we get CM9. What do you guys want though? HTC's Tablet Sense?
EDIT: I have the WiFi version btw, so if anyone wants carrier specific versions of ROMs, tell me what to change or just take my WiFi Roms and add support for your carrier.
No idea, i would love a source built ICS ROM but I hear CM9 is on the horizon and to my knowledge no Tegra 2 device has a GPU accelerated ICS ROM????

I can't quite build from source yet. Don't have the skills or the computer requirements (if my pc tried to build ics, it'd probably take days, weeks, months, or even years). I have a netbook and ics takes several hours to build with 16gb of ram so I can't imagine it with only 1 gb.

Sorry but I don't have the skill or knowledge for cm9, but we're in good hands: pershoot and cyanogen (you know, the guy who started cyanogenmod and the namesake of it). We'll have good builds soon, but apparently theres a non technical issue for all tegra 2 devices.
I can do miui once we get a good cm9 build and I will, but I need for other tablets to be supported because otherwise the resolution will be qhd at best. Either that or I need to find a way to make things support our resolution.

Wait, you meant an actual Sense ROM? Oh there's most likely no way in hell you'll pull that off, that's like 95% impossible. If you actually manage to pull it off though, I'll be amazed. No HTC device has the Galaxy Tab resolution, chip set, GPU, CPU, so some hard care porting is needed. Still, I'll be super impressed if you could get a Sense ROM booting, even if almost nothing worked.

If you can take another ROM honestly, I'd like a CM7 ROM. There is nothing about Honeycomb that I think is significantly better than Gingerbread especially with the CM7 features.
Or does it have to be another Tablet ROM like something from the Motorola Xoom or Acer Iconia?
I don't know if this is even possible but I love the UI on gridOS
Its android based but I do no of that's enough
If you don't know what it is look it up on YouTube or something

Sockmonk3y's Sticky guide in the development section tells you exactly what to do. I like how he added a section right into the guide saying, if you want a custom ROM, now is the time. Sure helps know when to do it.
Personally, I like go launcher hd, which is just out of beta and the options to customize and theme it are almost non-existing so far, so I can't say its the best. I like go launcher ex a lot with So many themes and stuff to customize it rocks. But if you decide to go with go launcher hd later its a pain to start over.

I would suggest you root your tab immediately and if you are not too concerned with the Camera you should install ICS Kang from AOKP. But other wise best HC choice is GalaxyTask 14.
Galaxytask14 has some lag but the ICS roms are literally flawless and has amazing mods and one of the biggest secrets behind the ICS speed is that they do not have Samsung's bloat-ware.
So if you are one of those people who loves flawless experience at the expense of camera (until Samsung releases a rom with the Camera driver) ICS would be your best friend and believe me I have come from IOS too so I was always after total smoothness that I have found in ICS.
Hope this helps .................
For the first time in owning an android device I'm asking this question. When I got my Captivate, Samsung and AT&T were jerking us around with our Froyo update, and it was about 4 months outdated already, so I rooted to put Froyo on, and later I put CM7 on it, as well as a million other roms lol. My Flyer I rooted so I could put faster roms, and ICS as it was on honeycomb and laggy, and my Vivid I rooted because sense made ICS look like gingerbread way too much and I wanted to tweak with the UI so Sense wasn't so intrusive.
But the Nexus had only one thing I didn't like, and that was the phone launcher, and I was able to fix that by just installing Apex. Now its pretty much perfect. No stupid Sense or Touchwiz skins ruining it, no bloatware, and its completley up to date at 4.1.1. So can someone give me a good reason to root? Not a bad problem to have lol,

You seem to be confusing rooting with custom recovery/system/kernel. Rooting has many benefits giving you greater system access and root apps. I won't go into detail because a Google search can tell you more.

Any reason to ask this question in a new thread? You've already answered your own question.
I had the exact same feelings as you...after 7 Android devices, this is the first time I had no desire to unlock/root/flash my new toy.
Feeling that the N7 was set up beautifully, the ONLY reason I had to root was for the REAL TABLET UI. Using a custom launcher with rotate enabled is not true tablet mode. I figured I'd try it, since my N7 would be rooted eventually anyway.
So that's a good reason...true tablet mode.
Yeah I actually kind of like the hybrid mode, I kept bumping the virtual buttons with my fingers on the Flyer while I was typing or gaming.
But I just was curious as to why people were rooting, made the thread for suggestions more than anything lol

also, if keeping the stock rom/launcher, you need root to edit the build.prop file so that you can have autorotate on the home screen.
