CM7 - Atrix 4G General

Ok, I'm not really new to this forum but I have a question, what exactly is CM7? I see threads on it with people saying that they would rather use that than ics.

Capone is right on the money. It's one of the most popular ROMs out there for any phone that dev teams can get it on. Lots of great features, nightlies with small tweaks released frequently, and just overall pure Android goodness.

I just flashed it today for the first time and, despite no fingerprint scanner, it's worth it.
With that said, I cannot figure out CM7 team's fascination with ADW launcher. Go Launcher Ex is a better and faster launcher imho.

Maybe the team has some stake in the app. Might even be made by one of the devs. Personally I like ADW but you're right, there are better launchers out there.

It helps that ADW Launcher is open source and has never had to contend with (likely overblown) privacy concerns as has Go. I'm partial to Zeam Launcher myself; it's minimalist, perhaps to a fault, but it is snappy and perfect for low memory devices.

Out of curiosity, what do you mean about Go? I've been using Go for several months now, but when I put CM7 on I decided to give it a whirl. I've decided that Go is just a better launcher all around, but I haven't heard of any privacy concerns.
Also, is CM7 not allowed to just use the stock UI from Google?

Yeah, you could use Launcher2. But I was told it's memory hungry, and overall lacks many important features (like resizing widets)

A while back, before I was really on the Android scene, there some some chatter about Go Launcher requiring internet permissions from Android and sending the phone's IMEI to their servers. I said "unfounded" because lots of apps do that, especially pay apps.

As if there weren't enough threads about it? Didn't u have to make an account to post here? Did u watch the video? Search function and Google are your friends. Good luck all, happy flashing.

Most vanilla AOSP rom?

I tried CM7. I disliked ADW and the rom felt overly bloated. It also had significant lag waking up to the lock screen.
I'm looking for the most basic barebones AOSP rom out there. What should I look for?
I always just ran CM7 with Launcherpro and it wsa the fastest I've seen. I think there are a few out there without the optimizations that the CM team adds but I don't know that they would be any faster.
most stock would be omfg or evervolv. recommend trying salvagemod 1.2.1 though

Adwex rules. If you want to dump the lag from adw, just change the drawer background setting to black.

Check out evodeck
I'd say omfg is about barebones as you can get, be decks is a great one to use too.
I'm curious, what is bloated about CM7? I keep hearing this bloated statement in all the alternative AOSP ROM threads but what is this bloat?
OMGB is great, I love it. That's the rom I use when I'm craving some vanilla
Decks is also just as good. Both are basically as pure as you can get!!
And my battery life on both of these roms... excellent.

+1 on this. Decks rom is awesome. I still use version 1.0... It has been nothing but good for me. I went from flashing every other day or so, to at least 3 weeks now with this rom. I also use Tiamats 3.3.7 kernel. Awesome Battery life...(at least on my phone)
Thanks for the suggestions guys.

It just feels very heavy. It has settings and processes and customizations out the wazoo. Everywhere I looked in the rom it felt like there was special CM stuff. Which isn't that big of a deal, but the lockscreen lag made me want to throw my phone out the window sometimes.

Yeah, i know what you are saying about the bloated feeling of CM7. I also couldn't stand the lockscreen lag. That's the main reason I went back to Myn's Warm. I just started using Deck's rom a few days ago, and it is freaking awesome. Fast as hell, and feels so clean.

Yeah, I understand. I have yet to try Miui though. I heard it dosen't have a app drawer. I don't know how I feel about that.

True... but doesn't this defeat a large part of the point of MIUI?
Although, I admittedly don't know as much about MIUI because I lack interest - didn't care for it on my friend's evo... are there other benefits to it that other roms don't have?

Kindle Fire on Nook Color

Hi developers...I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right section, and forgive me if I am...as you know the kindle Fire system dump has been out... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1295928&page=3 . It has been ported to the Samsung galaxy tablet ... http://gigaom.com/mobile/so-i-turned-my-galaxy-tab-into-a-kindle-fire/ ... I was wondering if this can be done on our nook colors ...If a developer can do this...it would be awesome...I would try if I knew how to.. thank you in advance..and once again I'm sorry if I posted in the wrong section

Not really a big job considering its based on the AOSP source. In all reality its just porting the main launcher onto the code. You can use all the proprietaries from cm.

why not, just cause you dont want to have it doesnt mean others will, its all about choices when it comes to android and the more choices we have the better our experience will be
I'd do it...if only to show the flexibility of the NC. Still have no interest in actually BUYING a Kindle Fire though. Still enjoying CM7
I'm gonna try and port it through android kitchen (no guarantees though), this sounds like a great idea to me. Someone with more experience dev'ing should try it as well.
Any luck guys...the launcher on cm7 force closes for me

A bit off topic, but If your launcher is FCing, try launcher pro instead. It works for me on CM7 sd install, and rooted stock.
You could also try an older cm7 install.
As for the fire, I would play with it out of curiosity, but I like the rooted stock for everyday use.

I see, sorry. I was wondering how that would work.
Not knowing much about the system, would you need it to sync to the cloud? If yes, authentication could be a serious issue.
Does it allow non market installs, and can it go to the market?
I am not sure I would be interested if it cannot do these two things. If it could, it may be amusing, but it would have to be silky smooth for me to consider it a prime OS. Since the hardware is significantly slower on the nook, I am betting it is a no go, but that is just conjecture.

The work done actually looks like a port of the apks. The fires UI runs on top of the galaxies UI so CPU and all that doesn't matter. It's just implementing the framework that's the problem.

Afternoon all,
just bought a galaxy tab 10.1 but not entirely impressed. Feels a bit laggy to me. I have an ipad2 too which hardly lags and works flawlessly.
Galaxy feels and looks better but what would i need to do to reduce the lag? whats the best rom available
I notice the lag alot when i swipe.
Install ADW Ex launcher if you want to stay stock, or flash the ICS ROM, and kiss the lag goodbye.
You are truly not seeing the potential with tab with the stock touch wiz.

Sockmonk3y's Sticky guide in the development section tells you exactly what to do. I like how he added a section right into the guide saying, if you want a custom ROM, now is the time. Sure helps know when to do it.
Personally, I like go launcher hd, which is just out of beta and the options to customize and theme it are almost non-existing so far, so I can't say its the best. I like go launcher ex a lot with So many themes and stuff to customize it rocks. But if you decide to go with go launcher hd later its a pain to start over.

I would suggest you root your tab immediately and if you are not too concerned with the Camera you should install ICS Kang from AOKP. But other wise best HC choice is GalaxyTask 14.
Galaxytask14 has some lag but the ICS roms are literally flawless and has amazing mods and one of the biggest secrets behind the ICS speed is that they do not have Samsung's bloat-ware.
So if you are one of those people who loves flawless experience at the expense of camera (until Samsung releases a rom with the Camera driver) ICS would be your best friend and believe me I have come from IOS too so I was always after total smoothness that I have found in ICS.
Hope this helps .................

[Q] Seriously...which one is Better?

Hey folks! My buddy just got the Galaxy Note and I was telling him about the awesome Developer custom firmware and mods...BUT then he told me, nothing beats the Official Firmware aka GingerBread with, in my opinion the Horrible TouchWiz UI. So I wanted to know your thoughts?
Am I wrong about TouchWiz being a bad representation of the Beauty of Android and not being Optimized for the Note...or am I biased?
All responses are welcome
Obviously it depends on what you prefer but i definitely prefer custom roms cause a) they usually are a lot smoother and b) they look better. And of course there's couple features you don't have on stock. Have a try?

I love ICS to death, but the lack of toggles in the notification bar really put a damper on things. I would recommend a Custom ICS ROM like CM9, or the sorts. Just look through the threads to see which was has the least amount of problems, or suits you best.

TOTALLY agree with you.
my perfect ROM is 100% AOSP experience(no more touchwiz please) with FULL S-Pen functionality.
this would be perfect.
I'm still on stock GB, as I have a custom ICS ROM on my tablet and don't see the new features as enough of a reason to void my warranty having played with it for a while - and I'd like to get premium suite when it comes out too.
I did like TW when I first got the Note, especially the list display of the apps menu, but having tried various launchers (inc. sPB shell) I keep ending up back with ADW Ex which I love the tweakability of. It takes a while to learn what the different settings do but you can get a great UI experience from it once you've got it set up just right. I think TW would be so much better if you could tweak it a bit more to your own preferences.
I probably will root my Note and install a lean, custom ROM once my year's warranty is up, just for the performance benefits and lack of bloatware, but for now I'm happy with GB.
