Galaxy Note 2.3.5 high Android OS Battery Use - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

My galaxy note is constantly displaying Android OS use between 50-70%.
Anyone else experiencing this issue?

Flash a Custom Kernel based on 2.6.35.14 (2 are available). This solves the problem.

thanx for the suggestion.
But i'd rather keep the stock firmware, for now, as this is my first android..don't wanna risk a brick.
From other threads i've read, there's a newer firmware 2.3.6 available for the germany galaxy notes. Any idea if it fixes this bug...its really annoying..i've already done factory resets thinking it may fix it .

I bought my note in st Louis USA . It had european charger and strange language that I don't recognize . it came as KJ4 build . So I don't know from what european country my note came but I downloaded and flashed Hong Kong rom 2.3.6 and its pretty good with battery , wifi , etc . I am just really disappointed with camera . My battery usage for android OS = 8% and Android system 7% . This link might help you . http://leemn.wordpress.com/2011/11/13/rooting-and-installing-cwm-for-the-samsung-galaxy-note/

It definitely fixes it on the German Note... at least mine

I had/have the same issue. I flashed the latest KKA ROM which flahes the KK5 modem. I deodexed it and turned off some unwanted system apps. Running the CF-Root KKA kernel and Android OS spikes to about 30-40% at times. I don't think it really has much affect on battery life. From what I understand and have read, it has to do with wifi Scanning repeatedly. You can adjust your wifi sleep policy to help this.

If it's keeping your phone 'awake' then you should install BetterBatteryStats which monitors Wakelocks. It'll tell you what OS services are going nuts.
It's happened to me a few times with rogue programs and USB host going crazy when I don't unmount correctly.

Same thing happening to me? Do you experience heavier drain on wifi than 3g?

Any misbehaving program either got their settings adjusted (stuff like sync frequency) or uninstalled. The USB host issue was, I think, because I unplugged the USB host cable without unmounting first. I just rebooted my phone in that case.

Well after countless number of hard resets....Android OS use in now around 11 %...
the difference i think was because of some apps....i'm not really sure...but this time i didn't install skype, winamp and viber...cuz every time i installed em...Android OS would be like upto 90%...

I currently have 2.6.35.7 with the KK1
would it be safe to update to the 2.6.35.14?
high OS battery is my only real problem.

I have the same kernel but with kk3....dunno if 2.6.35.14 will help with Android OS battery usage...my note still has no update available....
The only thing i can suggest for now its most definitely an app you installed which is causing high android OS usage...read my previous post....i hard reset my note installed all apps i had before but not winamp, skype and viber....i've kinda narrowed it down to these 3 after many hard-resets...
When i had them installed....my phone lost about 2% battery per hour on standby....But now it loses 1-2% in 8 hours on standby...

I'm having the same this with the high OS battery drain and have skype installed. Going to remove it and see if I get the same result. I didn't have the other two.
I've got the 2.3.6 KKA firmware installed but the drain just suddenly started one time (not when I installed it). I figured it can't have been the firmware itself, but much more likely an application I had installed or had updated.
Doesn't ICS have a better breakdown of service usage etc? Should be perfect if they have done this. Just have to wait and wait and wait for the ICS version.
Surely there is an app out there that can tell you what in the "Android OS" is causing the problem?
As an indication of how bad mine is at the moment, I was 100% at 9am this morning, 11:30am now and its down to 84%.. That's really awful!
I want to reset the battery stats as it could simply be that, but don't have CWM installed on this firmware. I'm rooted though.
[update] I've removed the battery stats file and restarted to see if that will help too.

Yea...let us know if removing skype helps....
oh and i installed Asphalt 6 from the samsung apps store.....its not available in the market....i had also installed it before hard resetting my note.......and guess what....high Android OS usage again.....damn....removed it....and i think its back to normal....but still have to see if removing fixes it for sure......

I guess the battery manager will count power used by all hidden processes and services as Android OS...

I had exactly the same experience with Asphalt 6 too. Good game, but why it sucked so much power when not even in use, hell knows!
Skype not made a big difference that I could tell, but resetting the battery stats made an immediate difference. 2 hours since charged and only down to 98%. Usually it would be 90-92% by now.

How do you reset battery stats

Hii,
Following are my stats
Android OS at 35% (Awake Time 1 hr 36 mins)
Display at 25% (on for 3 hrs @ 12% brightness)
Voice Calls at 13% (34 mins)
I don't know if the Android OS is a bit of a drain. Feels so. I think the Wifi Sharing and Wifi always remain on. So does Social Hub - use it to sync FB pictures to contacts as Social Hub offers great quality pictures unlike FB app or Friendcaster.
I do have Skype installed, but its never been initialised, never logged into.
I use GO Launcher, with 9 home screens. TouchWiz has been rendered empty (no widgets, short-cuts whatsoever running there)
I do use APW widget pack - Twitter & FB updates at 3 hours. GReader (with Google Reader syncing every hour). 2 Contacts widgets.
In addition to it, I also have the PowerAmp 4x2 music widget. Homescreen has Simple Calender widget, A "Make youw own clock" widget, a 1x1 Beautiful Widget Weather.
Dunno if the widgets are causing the drain or not.
Like you remarked, my battery drain ATM is around 1-1.5% per hour, with Wifi On and everything running and syncing (as above)
The standby time has been pretty decent. Whereas I am happy with charging everyday, if I could reduce the AndroidOS overload, I cud brighten up my screen a bit more
Dunno wat to do now. I don't wanna root now or try any techy stunts. The phone is only 2 days old yet.
Wud appreciate if anyone can guide me around. I will try to FORCE STOP the Wifi Sharing and Wifi Sharing manager, along with Social Hub, and EMail apps/services tomorrow.
Wud be amazing to lose 2% over 8 hours on standby. Awesome.

[INVESTIGATION] Battery drain bug in 2.3.4 (JVP build for now)

It seems that our beloved Samsung did it again!
Now we can enjoy a fully functional, long waited, Gingerbread 2.3.4.
Although some sources say that it is only a leak, the JVP build seems to behave really well, according to the reports of many users.
Gingerbread 2.3.4 was build in order to fix some Android bugs and make the interface even faster. We have seen that the second task is a success, the user experience and crazy Quadrant scores being the best witnesses. But what about the first task, are there any android bugs in this build? Maybe we could find out together.
The key purpose of this thread is to find out if that Android OS bug, which made Gingerbread users a hard life, is still present.
You can help this investigation by keeping an eye on the battery stats and reporting the consumption (in percents, of course) of the Android OS. It is even better if you can add some screenshots.
Please don't forget to mention:
- The ROM and kernel you are using.
- Some apps or games you are using (known to fire this bug on previous builds).
- Whether you have autorotation on or off (some users reported they had no drain if kept off on 2.3.3 builds).
- What type of usage you applied to the phone (not really necessary, only you are kind enough).
If you have any kind of suggestion regarding some modifications for this thread you are welcomed to post them. It will helps us become more efficient.
Thank you very much for your effort!
EARLY CONCLUSIONS*:
- Battery life is indeed an improvement on JVP 2.3.4
- The Android OS bug is less aggressive. The reports show a maximum consumption of approx. 20%. We can't say for sure if we can talk about a bug anymore. Anyway, the drainage is not so bad, comparing to 2.3.3 versions.
- The Android System consumption is a bit scary (15-20%) especially after a flash. However, it tends to stabilize in time.
- A clean flash, factory resets, avoiding apps restoration with Titanium or similar, reducing consumers when you don't need them always helps. With or without battery draining bugs.
- JVP is a better alternative for previous versions due to improvements for battery life, speed and stability, even if it's a beta release. So you should go for it, it really is an upgrade!
*The statements above are based on reports and poll results collected until now and they may change. I take no responsibility if you will find those informations incorrect or incomplete. Flash JVP at your own risk, you could loose data or brick your phone, although there aren't reports that say that. Follow the instructions and you should be ok!
is this a new craze insted of train spotting or stamp colecting ....battery watching ....most of us have got a life and have better things to do then watch how much a battery uses ...do what i do charge the phone and enjoy these phones do use loads of battery
Updated with 2.3.4 I9000XXJVP,CSC = I9000OXAJVP and kept it on without sim and without even touching but fully charged. The battery life was just for one and half days.
Android OS running at 3%
using Damian's GTO Alpha kernel for JVP and Brotuck's gingerMod ROM.
Autorotation off.
Consistent q scores in the 2600 range, phone running very smoothly and very fast in daily use (internet, twitter, pics, camera, messaging, phone), 130+ apps installed, no issues. Seems a much better base firmware than any of the 2.3.3 variants.
It's a bit early to investigate this stuff.
Wait for Samsung to release 2.3.4 sources and devs to make some stable kernels based on this.
Until this time many stuff can be broken (well, you're free to beta test though ).
batery is much beter in 2.3.4
no since i flash JVP 2days ago!

Keep in mind that after a reflash the battery life will stabilize after a while.
In my opinion, the cell standby may be the cause. If left without SIM, Airplane mode off, your phone will continue to search for signal and this really drains the battery.
If you can make a test again, check the battery usage and post your conclusion.
Thanks for your contribution!

This kind of activity is normal in community, especially here in XDA.
It will be useful for those kind of people who don't like to experiment in order to find some answers.
We could do like you but, what if we need to charge it again, after 8 hours, without using the phone?
That's why this "new craze" exists, because we want to avoid that kind of problems.

You're right but the 2.3.4 concentrates on fixing bugs, so even in beta stage we should see some changes.
Anyway, the thread is intended to test the firmware regarding this problem, so it can become an indicator for people asking weather they will experience this problem of they can enjoy using their phone without even thinking about this.

Comming from Froyo JPY to stock deodexed JVP, I have noticed a higher battery drain.
I lost 13% overnight, I had 21% battery use on cell standby (6hours of use). and I noticed something very strange, android system has a 18% battery use with only 5 minutes running, WTF???
I'm using stock deodexed rom from ramad, Dark core kernel and screen off animation. that's all I've changed to this rom, no games, and a few apps like titanium backup and atk.
When I tapped on the android system there was a huge list of included packages, I will list them here, maybe one of them (or all together) is causing that huge battery use:

It seems that you have a normal consumption on Android System. Also that app list is present on every ROM which has all system apps. On lite ROMs you can get a smaller list, because some of those apps are removed by the chefs.
Maybe your network coverage is not that good
After a flash, the battery needs stabilization, until then it can drain fast. Try to recalibrate it. Please tell me if you need a good guide.
Try a lite ROM. Maybe you will experience a good Android System consumption.
Thanks for the feedback!
Look at the poll results so far 72% say they have no battery issue, so it must be the apps on your phone that are at fault for any unusual battery drain.
Look at your own apps first before you blame the rom, mostly it's not the rom that's at fault.

When you're not really using your phone, Android System will have a higher battery use percentage, because nothing else is using battery.
Long periods of idle, you will see higher Cell Stanby and Android System percentages.
The more you use the phone, those percentages will lower.

Good job! Enjoy your phone!
turn off data connection or wifi when youre not using them
and it will least even longer...
This is what i had with the previous JVO (2.3.3) and not using any task killer anymore. I moderately used the phone, made some calls, wrote some SMS, had blutooth on in the car, listening mp3. Ah, and i set display brightness to "auto" always, i don't use the manual setting with lowest brightness value anymore.
But i also can get the battery down in less than a day...
I'll give the new 2.3.4 a try.
It's funny to see that there is always somebody who needs to torture the board with reinventing the battery wheel. Strange battery behavior usually shows up (and is often dependent on them) in threads with special roms or kernels. The only thing this thread will brings us is more of the same on how to save juice if you don't want to fork for a larger/extra battery.

Official ICS battery drain discussion thread

Hello, I know there have been a lot of talk around this problem(h2_hsic wakelock), but I haven't been watching the development of the issue lately, tried to find positive solutions on the matter via search .. with no luck.
So, my question basically is, is there official samsung ICS rom from any region which doesn't have this problem? Are they all spoiled? I've tried only the italian one, I see there are several more now!

Hello, I'm going to try the Polish fw, since its the last release on SamMobile. I'm getting the impression that the only solution now, with the officials is to use the so called A1 kernel.

Same problem here.
If i let the GSM on i get deep sleep. Did you try it?
Meanwhile, tried already XXLQ8, XWLP5, XWLP6 and also tried several modems. If i check my tablet every 2 hours (just switch on the screen and open CPU SPY, then close it), i'm able to have a total deep sleep. During night, after approximately 2 hours, there comes the l2_hsic again.
Still looking for a solution before flashing the a1 kernel.
With the Honey Comb i had no battery drain. Here it's approximately 1% per Hour if it does not enter deep sleep.

Yep more 2%. I have flashed the A1 kernel now. After some hours I found a really helpfull and easy way to do it. Even the Look here first page does not help so much, because it didn't tell you to first install CMW, then root (Still not sure if I have to) and then flash the A1 kernel. But aftr some reading it worked in 10 Mins. I will flash back to 3.2 if there is still some draining
Even draining with STOCK and A1 kernel
My tab starts draining again even with the A1 kernel flashed (See attachment). I think I will go back to Stock 3.2.2. if I don't find the reason for this.
And yes everyhing was switched of => Sync,WiFi, mobile data and GPS.
Same problem here - stock ICS + A1kernel. The drain stops when i kill all apps, but once you start using the device the drain will pick up and not stop again. Mind that my usage is mainly browsing and emailing. Cpu spy shows it's been in deep sleep most of the time. Any advice appreciated.

I noticed battery drain issue several days ago and adopted several methods to resolve it on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 3G P7500 running stock ICS 4.0.4 Italy version.(rooted). It appears to me that (h2_hsic wakelock) is the root cause for the battery drain in ICS 4.0.4 released for P7500 Tabs by Samsung. This issue should be resolved by Samsung forthwith to safe guard the interest of its esteemed customers. I hope all the members would also make similar request to Samsung.

Hello again,
this strange draining started somehow after reinstallation of all apps. I'm not sure, but could it be that the starting stopping behaviour is connected to the autosync interval of the facebook app? I switched it of now and lets see what happens.

My tab is still draining, even with A1 kernel. I think about going back to 3.2. I have already removed the facebook app, but it looks like there are other programs wking up my tab and I don't know why.

Now I've tried uninstalling the samsung puch service and removing my samsung account.

Could people who have managed more than 10 hours or 15 hours on their galaxy s3 post screen shots of their battery stats and include information of what special settings they used, what kernels and Rom they used and what battery you used and what they used their phones for like apps and games so people like me who only manage to get 6 hours out of their s3's can hopefully get more out of their phones.
(You don't have to say exactly what games or apps just that you used some)
Think it would be very helpful

Defiantly get more than that between recharges.
Stock deodexed Wannam ROM, with the below configuration basically.
I removed most Samsung stuff,
no S-voice (Google Now is enough), Kies (including kiesexe), tracking services, remote controls etc.
Look for the list of unneeded services found here somewhere and freeze what you don't use.
Your going to have to do that with most ROM's, even light editions don't remove everything.
Other tips, freeze Facebook when not used or use 'Fast for Facebook' instead.Too many others tips to mention they can all be found here but.
I leave Wi-Fi, GPS and Google services on here. Plus pesky Facebook (for the calendar sync). But am happy with battery so far...
Battery is now 68%, Screen time 56%
7.45hrs on battery.. No calls, just Tune in radio, YouTube, XDA, Firefox etc over WiFi. GPS turns on hourly for weather, along with syncing for 4 email accounts, Facebook, Twitter and G+.
Facebook, Twitter are system syncs NOT application syncs. I use Android Pro Widgets to display what the system syncs and only open those two apps when needed..
Swyped on GT-I9300 - XXDLJ4 - Siyah kernel 1.7b1 - JKay framework -

Thanks, I've tried only one Rom which was omega but that really didn't help my battery and tried the phenomenal extreme and shiyah kernels (found the explanation of dual booting a bit confusing)
Don't like the whole thing about wiping my memory for Rom installation as I've done a nandroid backup which backs up the state so if I install a Rom have to add everything back (not tried titanium backup yet though, might be the answer)
I don't have a facebook app as usually use chrome to visit it and don't really use s voice and haven't really used Google now as my battery seems to just drain by pressing buttons and if I play a game for even a short time my battery seems to drain 20%
Don't have GPS or syncs or any location settings on as thought that would drain battery and tried battery saving apps but they never gave my battery a better life.
I'll try removing some bloatware though as that might help a lot

(again, I'm not sure if these are what they should be - I've rooted my phone and put various (stock) ROMs on it and as far as I know I'm using the official UK BTU ROM because that's the latest one I attempted to install - although I've played around with the firmwares on all three of the Galaxy S devices I've had (S, SII and SIII) I'm still not very aware of all the functions of the various bits and pieces in ROMs and how they all go together!)
I practically always have Wi-Fi on, and I'm constantly checking facebook, emails, the odd web page, other social apps etc.
Phone usually goes through the full day without needing to be recharged and I tend to stick it on to recharge when I go to bed.
I am on stock and use green power premium. I get 1d16h with 100min call time, listening to FM radio tuner, occasional flip board and Gmail. I do not use Facebook but have outlook configured. I am sure I will get more battery life as I had rebooted my device and un/installed a few apps while trying out and spent a lot of time trying to setup Tasker which I will not be doing on a regular day.

Two good apps that could help to reduce battery usage are Tasker and Juice Defender. They can schedule turn on time for wifi/data for syncing, rather than having them on when phone is idle

I've got juice defender but yet to master it as it seems to be doing all sorts.
I put it on aggressive and it changes settings for WiFi itself and other things that I don't want it to do and now it's put itself back to balanced and it really hasn't done anything for my battery other than annoying me and playing games.
Think I'll uninstall it cause it ain't really helping me

I just read that after installing a new Rom or buying new battery the best thing to do is re callibrate your battery from 100 to 0% maybe for this after factory resetting phone not sure about installing Roms though but I rememner after installing a rom the battery seemed worse.
I also remember having better battery the first having my phone after callibrating it so trying that might be a good option.
Anyway that's my input.

You can wipe it from recovery (Delete battery stats option), you can install an app to that for you or you can delete the batterystats.bin file located in /data/system/ folder. You need root for all three methods and it is recommended to do it on a fully charged battery.
Calibrating battery means that you delete the batterystats.bin log file so you get fresh stats in the battery log in setting (im not sure if the option in recovery does anything more) so if you are not experiencing weird battery behavior (like phone shutting down at 30% or not fully charging) than this might hele other than that I don't think there is any benefit. But it is up to you if you want to try and see for yourself.

Also by letting your battery die from 100%, only have to do this first time though as you can then just charge your battery when you want an extra boost before you're going out.
I've found that after installing a new Rom or factory reset and just charging my phone from half way or at 30% my battery drains quickly from 100%

I did read somewhere it maybe has to do with roaming or WiFi.
Not sure what phone you have or what Rom or mod you're using as you have 4.1.2 jellybean which I'm guessing has only been released to nexus.
Sorry can't be more help other than check your applications and see what processes are running and what is keeping your phone awake.
It can even be a widget or launcher, maybe someone else can be more helpful.

I would go back to stock Rom and kernel if I was you to see if there's a difference, there are many reporting this with cm roms and open source roms or it could be the launcher you are using.

[Q] [SOLVED, kinda] Weird battery drain for no apparent reason

Hello all,
I own an international N9005.
Up until recently, I used the stock Samsung ROM with good battery life.
A couple of weeks ago, with no apparent reason, I started getting horrid battery life - in access of 10% drop -per hour- in idle (as opposed to 1-3%).
I removed more-or-less everything, disabled more-or-less everything but nothing seems to work.
Got root (there goes the warranty) tried looking for Wake-locks and nothing. The Note3 is 97% (!!!) awake even with everything disabled, and in the wake looks screen both user and kernel I only see 1-2 minutes (!).
Tried resetting the ROM, tried installing other custom ROMs (X-Note, Omega, etc). Nothing seems to work.
Currently I'm running Omera v20, with *zero* applications installed (including all the Google and Samsung applications beyond Google Playstore) and all external services (location, WIFI, et-al) disabled, my note 3 is still 95-99% awake, and the list of wake lockers is, errr, empty.
FWIW I'm ~100m from the nearest cell tower.
EDIT: According to battery meter, Android OS is keeping the phone up.
Any ideas?

Indexing your external SD maybe?
You could try the link in my sig and try again for your custom ROM.
First, thanks all for taking the time to answer.
I'm thinking about getting a new battery, but my gut feeling is that its not the source of amazing battery drain - ~20%/h while completely [!] idle (auto-sync/location/etc completely off).
I've attaching /d/wakeup_source in excel format sorted by count and total time - in-case someone has any idea what's completely broken.
As far as I can see, qpnp-vadc-ebd30a00, sec-battery-monitor, mmc0:0001:2 are the main culprits.
nicholaschum,
Before I attempt a complete wipe (as opposed to the normal wipe data / cache), how can I detect if someone is indexing my sdcard? (which may account for the mmc0:0001:2 in the wake lock dump).
- Gilboa
I know this is a long shot but try turning off developer options if you have it turned on(especially force gpu rendering). Somehow I found out that when I turned it on and the screen is idle. I get a battery drain. Not as big as yours. But not really sure because if I use the phone, the battery is actually pretty great(an hour of screen time is about 10% even more with internet apps like facebook youtube chrome etc.).
Clear cache. I know this is too common but it actually works for a lot of people.
Lastly, try airplane mode overnight and see if it doesn't drain. It might be your network that is causing the drain.

Already installed - together with WakeLockDetector.
Short update, out of pure desperation I completely wiped the phone (including sdcard), tried installing stock ROM and, err, Odin failed. Managed to get CWM running again and installed the latest CM nightly.
...
As weird as it sounds, going from NF4 based ROMs (including stock) to CM nightly dropped to idle battery usage to ~2-6%/h, a huge drop from ~20%/h.
I'll update and mark resolved if this situation holds (crosses fingers).

I heard there were problems with NF4 battery. But I haven't been on TW since ND4. No matter what on Note 3 TW the battery sucks. AOSP is great. But actually S5 port has the best battery.
Solved, at least for now.

I use Nova (and not TW)
Either way, latest nightly seems to solve the battery drain problem completely - using the same Nova and system configuration (widgets, active syncs, etc). Currently I'm at ~1.5-0.8%/h when idle with no issues going into deep sleep.
Seems that my specific model really dislikes NF4.
Thanks again for trying to help.
This thread has been quite helpful as I was suffering with a Battery Drain after the NF4 Upgrade.
Planning to go back to ND5, which was the last stable version.

I was thinking about doing the same, but in the CM 11 runs circles around both NF4 (duh!) and my previous ROM (not sure which revision it was) - plus I can actually get 2 days of standby time, even with the old batteries, so I'll stick with CM 11 for now.

Android OS consuming huge amount of battery

hi guys first of all i apologize for this post not having detailed info such as ss from BBS,GSAM and WLD and will post them later !!
and as always i guess with most battery related problems it happened suddenly and i really mean suddenly the day before yesterday everything was perfectly fine and i didn't have that ridiculous battery drain !!
i woke up yesterday only to find out that Android OS is taking more than 50% of battery usage with a drain like 20% over night
restarted many times and by the end of the day i installed GSAM and WLD (wakelock detector)
froze most of apps including the ones i installed recently but i didn't install that battery hog apps (nothing unusual) and also they didn't appear in partial wakelocks section of BBS
btw i don't use any fake battery extender tools or memory boosters it's just Greenify
i observed that sometimes when i unlock my device (i use knock code btw if that matter!!) wifi gets disconnected and reconnect again (wifi icon disappear and re-appear again in 3 secs or so)
i'll upload ss in a couple of mins
thank you
Edit: SS Added
and notice how it drained 5% in just 40 mins (20 mins SOT) !!!

I had the same problem with battery drain(although not as severe) along with huge data consumption when using a significantly modified(i.e. heavy debloat and ota disabled) rooted stock rom. I tried a few customs roms and dorimanx kernel(not at the same time), and even though battery drain wasn't as bad, they were are waaaay to buggy to be used everyday(especially the dorimanx kernel, it's really bad).
Just last week I tot back to KK and ota updated to the latest LP rom(lost root unfortunately). Then I uninstalled/disabled every app I could/needed. Everything is very fast, smooth, and stable again. I now lose 1-2% every 8hrs in standby with syncing and wifi/data enabled, bluetooth and nfc disabled. I regularly get 5-6hrs sot over 48hrs with moderate use and brightness on auto.
I do have a new battery though - my old one( came with my "refurbished" phone from freedompop) gave me 2-3hrs of sot - but that was when I first got it and before I started modifying anything.

How is dorimanx kernel bad? How many user downloads he has, lots and lots then are we thousands of user wrong using a bad kernel, come on . Maybe it didnt work for you. But out of those thousands of users cant be wrong. If it was that bad no one would download. Just saying , you should just say it didnt work for you.

Can you tell us what app have you uninstalled and disable ?
What have you debloat ?
Thank you very much
My G2 (vs980) has also been suffering from a sudden battery drain. Android OS and Android System seem to be the problem. They are now second and third on the list of battery usage, after the screen. Before now, they were never that high on the list. I noticed this last weekend, when I kdz to the latest update for the vs980, which is 3AA. After noticing this, I flashed the xceed kernel, then cloudy with dorimanx kernel, and the battery drain continued. I even kdz back to kitkat, still the same, then I flashed AICP 11, and still the same battery drain by Android OS and system. Finally, I restored a backup of stock lollipop 39A but, the issue continued so I turned on airplane mode and it seems to help a bit. I still notice battery life isn't the same as before. The os and system still drain more than usual even on airplane mode.
Kind of glad to hear I'm not the only one with this issue. I don't think I need a new battery, since I bought the phone new in April 2015 from Bestbuy.
Also Gsam, shows the temperature of phone between 80°-90°F, where before it would be in the low to mid 70s. One time, it even got up to 104°F, funny thing is, it doesn't even feel that hot in my hand.
Hopefully, we can find out what's causing this because I really liked the battery life on this phone. Even when people complained about the battery life being worse on 5.0.2, I was pretty happy with it. All my previous phones can't compare to the g2. Now I feel like upgrading though lol.

When I tried the version that was out a month or two ago it wasn't nearly as smooth as stock, even after conservatively messing with the kernel app settings. The worst was that it also cut out tethering and my flashlight when the screen shut off. Maybe the recent updates have fixed some of the issues, but I doubt it. Could be that he doesn't have access to the sprint variant which I have...
Either way, just because 'thousands' of people use it doesn't necessarily mean that it's good - 99.9% of those users have no idea how to code or how a kernel is written. Their knowledge goes as far as following picture guides online - which a 5 years old could do. Just look at the most recent change log - those 'fixes' were to glaringly huge problems that shouldn't have been made in the first place and people were blissfully using it the whole time. Think about how many thousands of other bugs their must be. Not to mention hacking up code made by professionals at huge companies could lead to many other problems. Obliviously the stock kernel has bugs as well, but it works and is fast and stable so I see no need for using a hacked together kernel made by one amateur that doesn't even have my version of the phone to test it on. I wanted it to be good - which Is why I went to the trouble of installing it, but it's definitely NOT.

I uninstalled ALL of the stock apps that can be uninstalled. The ones I disabled are aosp keyboard, app updates, browser, calendar, cloud print, favorite contact widget, google play books, games, movies & tv, newstand, google+, lg voice command speech pack, music, music(the widget - it always runs in the background even without being on the homescreen), notebook, polaris viewer, quicktranslator, swype, talkback, voice command. I would have liked to disable a few more but I'm not rooted so I couldn't.
I use nearly all of the google products like chrome, gmail, calendar, docs, keep, music, photos, news and weather,translate,etc...so having the stock lg ones enabled was redundant. I also only have the bare minimum of installed apps that I need. Nearly all of them are made my major corporations i.e Chase, BofA, ebay, paypal, freedompop, microsoft, swiftkey etc. I have NO games or any small apps that need a ton of permissions. The only small apps are feedly, print hammermill, privacy flashlight(240kb, no ads, no permissions) and bubble level(180kb, no ads, no permissions).
I also go through every settings in every app to make sure it's what I want. And I restart my phone every time I take it off the charger. IMO having a clean and no frills system that is set correctly is the key to performance and battery life.
I just want want to clarify that I average 4-5hrs per 1% in standby since it doesn't seem to hold as well as it gets closer to 0%.
theres this app that have lots of info on battery..
thx guys for adding your experience
i hoped moded kernels would've reduced that amount as they should have necessary drivers for wifi which was somehow got messed up but from your reply i guess i've to look somewhere else
idk how to put this, well this isn't a solution at all i actually didn't start working on it yet just thought to share what i found so far !!
so it's just a reference for any one whose luck was bad enough to have a wakelock like that !
1st of all in most cases neither the device nor it's battery are at fault *you need to understand that*
faulty battery doesn't show up kernel related wakelocks instead they drain without a reason so i hope ppl stop accusing battery in every battery drain thread!
2nd after understanding that you'll have to deal with the environment your phone is used in
to put it simple it's your router and all devices in your current network !! (idk though why not all devices get affected by that or why it just started now, tough luck yea)
those threads may help

http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/help/getting-rid-wlanrxwake-wakelocks-t2519294
what i'll try to do is add an old access point to my router and connect my phone to it as i don't have a replacement router right now!!
i'll let you know if things were improved !
hey guys
i thought to share what i did so far and before i go on there is a bad news and a good news !!
i would start with the bad news first !
-no rom could solve this issue so you don't really need to format everything and start from scratch especially if you didn't mess around too much and you found it started suddenly like here, i've tried couple of roms including latest CM13 build it wasn't that bad but it didn't solve the drain that much either !!
-now some ppl may see this bad and some may don't care (which means good!!) google services are the ones responsible for this drain
well man you didn't come up with anything new and i see you've got a problem getting straight to the point besides you talk too much
i'm sorry
now you have to sacrifice your google services background sync including "GCM" if you are using any services similar to pushbullet or notification mirroring you'd understand why it's important
anyway if you are good with that you may install and yea it works with latest google play services
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.playfulgeeks.gservicefix
and do as instructions (and believe it'll work if you did steps right)
if you prefer manual way then you'll need "app ops xposed module" and deactivate every "wake up" permission from google services
this guide may help but remember we don't have tools natively in our roms so don't bother downloading "shortcut maker" and go through your settings app to find "privacy guard" or "app ops" we don't have those natively like them
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/guide-google-play-services-battery-t2832525
i'll share some ss from stock battery stats
i'm sorry for my long post and i hope it'll help someone with same issue
idk if it solved issue completely but things are stabilized a lot now and i just lost 1% over night not 20% or 30% like before !!
and i'm using lollipop now so i guess it's not that bad for what i heard about bad lollipop battery since it's my first time trying it !!
and btw real SOT should be +40 mins so the real SOT is 2H-47M cuz i restarted my phone to apply that fix and for some reason battery stats doesn't stick between reboots !!
if anyone interested in trying that rom it's for D800 only btw and thx to @Swetnes for his work rom feels pretty stable and solid :good:

good luck everyone
