[Q] Will LTE upgrade be compatible with ATT LTE?

Just as the title implies, I am curious if the free LTE upgrade offered by motorola will be compatible with ATT's future LTE network.
I am one of the lucky ones that got the 25% off deal and a contract free $600 xoom (if it ever gets here!!!). I have a family plan through ATT and would rather just add to that then have to pay multiple carriers for another data service.
Actually I mostly plan on tethering it to my cappy but would love to have an iPad like data plan through ATT that i could activate/deactivate as needed...
So anyone have a clue if the upgrade will be compatible with ATT LTE network?

Verizon's LTE setup is entirely 700mhz, and as such the verizon xoom will only support 700mhz LTE. Verizon has nation wide 700mhz coverage.
AT&T has a fairly large 700mhz spectrum but not over the entire country.. in some places it may be 1700mhz instead which will not work. I am unsure if the xoom is unlocked, but if it is, an AT&T sim card should work in 700mhz areas.

Do you know if this goes for any European carriers? I'll be spending about a month in Germany (mostly Berlin) and some time in Sweden during the latter half of this upcoming summer.

You have to check from provider to provider.. 700mhz is a fairly recent USA only thing due to the spectrum sales.

There are actually three xoom SKUs one verizon uses, one GSM (international 3G, basically) and one WiFi only

As a T-Mobile user...

So as far as my research goes there are 2 options for the GS3 on t-mobile.
One is buy the international version and wait for t-mobile to upgrade their network which they say will be out by the "end of the year."
The second is pick up a gs3 from WIND Mobile, Mobilicity or Videotron (Canadian carriers that use the same frequencies as T-Mobile).
Is the second option even viable or should I just get the international version? To put things in perspective of why I want to upgrade now, my g2x was stolen a few months ago and I've been suffering with my 8900 Blackberry....a phone with 2G speeds and the processing power of a rock and I just cannot take this any more.

One question is the chip the North American version will get, which is probably the S4 Krait, it has very good performance and probably more battery efficient. Sound quality should be excellent like the HTC One S. Not to mention LTE support too, which T-Mobile is unveiling next year.
With that said, I always go for the international version, its released first for one and generally has more developers. I buy my phones at full price and int' version generally has better resale values. I don't think you have a lot of choice if you are in contract.
I can tolerate the 2G until 1900mhz band works with T-Mobile, I only need data for Google Maps, I get on WiFi otherwise.

Funny. I broke my N1 and am stuck with a BB curve 3600. It's been a month or so now....and I believe I've been punished long enough!

I wouldn't be able to tolerate the 2G speeds. So I will be getting it through mobile when they release release it. Having carrier warranty is a big plus for me too.

well I'm sure there will be canadians that would be willing to sell their phones out of contract, full price. I wouldn't be locked into a contract either way.

whats 40 bucks when you have the top phone working on your network ahead of everyone else right?

i would think it would be the international version that WIND Mobile, Mobilicity or Videotron would be getting, sense they dont have LTE.

did you check the radio bands included in the international model?

yes, they dont work with t-mo till the end of end of the year. no one wants 2G service.

Why won't they work?
I read the International Version can run on either T-Mobile (USA) or AT&T network, since the International Version of the S3 uses the same spectrum. It won't be possible to use LTE, but HSPA+ is possible... so I read.
Don't know if you specifically meant the Canadian version, because the International SG3 uses "850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100 mhz", for use with "3g (hspa＋ 21mbps)" (= T-Mobile).
Can you provide a few more details on why it's not supposed to work, as you say ??

Cause it doesn't list 1700mhz, which tmobile needs for the down link.

The 1700 mhz band is not necessarily needed. I just checked some other sources, and they say it's only needed for LTE - which T-Mobile won't have until some time in 2013 anyway. HSPA+ is good enough for speedy downloads on the 1900 mhz band.

LTE is not even in the picture

I believe t mobile has had a SGSIII go through the FCC in the last week. I believe they will be getting their own model.

I believe that is correct, by the end of next month tmo should be selling it. I have a feeling that it's going to be the same as the international version.

Has anyone read this article about the relase date. My contract is up this week but im waiting untill its released. Seems like the speeds will be 4g but no quad-core processor

Exactly true for me. On verizon tho.

I can deal with edge speeds as WiFi is everywhere, plus T-Mo is refarming their spectrum - the Int'l Version should be compatible with 4G by Q4

Yep. I was contemplating selling mine and getting the LTE version (on contract) but HSPA+ is fast enough for Netflix in HD. Fast enough for me! Don't need the carrier bloat, contract extension and battery reduction.

I'm getting 5-8 Mbps down and 750-1,000 kbps up on Tmo in NYC with my N2.

so what would you guys say? should I go for the Tmo version for LTE or international and skip the carrier bloat? I only have a 3G phone right now, is the increase in speed of LTE over HSPA+ a big enough deal? also will the international version work on Tmo HSPA+ or only on AT&T?

U should consider on battery consumption..i heard lte using high consumption battery..better ask community from att for note 2 thread it self..

Uhh... if you want to use it on T-Mobile expect 2G speeds unless you're in an area where they've started or finished the 1900 MHz refarm (even if they do, it'll be pretty much limited to a city or county, but anywhere else you won't get 3G/HSPA speeds at all)

Also, the T-Mobile version of the Note II has support for AT&T HSPA as its HSPA radio is a pentaband (so it'll work pretty much everywhere else on HSPA), also the radio of the T-Mobile version is DC-HSPA, or more commonly known as HSPA 42mbps whereas the Internaltional and AT&T versions have HSPA radios with support for only 21mbps. The T-Mobile version also has LTE bands for AT&T and the eventual T-Mobile LTE network, but is currently DISABLED in the software, so we'll have to wait to get that unlocked (I also heard there'll be requirement of a LTE SIM card, but I can't say that for a fact yet).
In essence, if you're going to spend ~$700, get the T-Mobile one, at least you'll have warranty, better signal on HSPA, LTE support later for T-Mobile and AT&T, and as a result, you'll get a better resale value when its time.

thanks for the info! I'll prob get the tmobile version after all. I am in a refarm area according to your link, but I wouldn't want to be restricted to my area and lose good speeds when I drive somewhere else.

Exactly, achu, are you sure it's possible to get LTE working on T889 on AT&T's network in the future? Please be certain when you state so, because we already have enough mis-info here on the forum thanks to the Samsung's decision on making *this* many variants. (already 14 or so)

Guys, I have the tmo version. This thing is amazing, and now I'm thinking of buying another one to send to my brother in the philippines. Not sure which would be the best model to buy, tmo US version or international version? Anyone from the phils who can cobfirm the bands use and iis it hspa or lte or something else??

I have an international N2 bought in France (N7100XXALIH), and I am having trouble to get the H+ in Atlanta with tmo even though it's fairly well covered. I am stuck with Edge (which is quite frustrating) and tried to flash a few radios without any success. The tech guy from tmo told me that only tmo-N2 can use H+ so what you wrote is encouraging. Did you guys use a specific modem? Or did it work straight out of the box? Please help.

Just put your phones mode to wcdma it will only force h+ settings> moresettings>mobile networks > network mode choose wcdma if ur area has h+ it will pick it up otherwise no signal wont default to edge

I did this already and, as you mentioned, the phone defaults to no signal if no h+ is fetched, and is rendered unusable. However, my friend is able to pickup the h+ network with much more ease using a tmo GN1 (both phones operate on WCDMA in this case). So I suspect something with the radio rather than the hardware, no strong statement here. I tried to flash icsblaze and others without any success (actually had to recover my system several times due to major crash). Are there any tmo radios available for Jelly Beans?

I read through the forum, didn't find a sold answer if SHV-E300S with Exynos 5 (Octa) will work with LTE in US!
Can anyone please let us know...

If you want to:
-Pay 200 dollars more expensive(import tax + local seller commission)
-Have a bigger size(korea version is thicker than us one) and have stupid korea restriction(sms limitation, etc...)
-Take a phone who only support Korea 4G frequency and imcompatible with all other country
You can surely go for this version. No problem!!!

I'm using a app called SKT Hidden Menu with my SHV-E300S. You can change the network channels to work in the US.

Hi, since you have the korea version, please show us more pictures about its size, what difference does he have other than the fact he get overclocked processor and compatible LTE? Some physical difference? Bigger than us one? Thicker? Some restrictions? Do you mean that with your app, you can use 4G LTE in the US and in other countries? Also where did you buy your phone? How much does it cost? Thank you.

The overclocked processor settings was dropped before it's release. It's now 4 cores at 1.6 and 4 cores at 1.2. I'm guessing because of heat issues.
Just doing a backup will make the phone heat up quick. Plus, the battery life isn't good.
I should have waited two more months before buying a S4.

I too want to have the octa core S4 with LTE to use in the US and don't want to settle for anything less. Some sources say that the S4 Exynos octa-core supports 20 LTE bands, but often responses from people say that the Korean LTE S4 won't work with US LTE bands. Wiki contains some info on the S4 and LTE bands but I'm a noob so it's not clear to me why it is a definite no for LTE in the US.

I'm targetting to use the S4 on Tmobile LTE. So according to that info Tmobile supports 6 LTE bands, some of which are also listed under the K, L and S variations of the Korean S4. To me that sorta implies that Tmobile LTE would work, but then I'm a noob and not sure how that works out. I don't know how reliable the Wiki info is so it'll be great to know. I've also seen sources that say the Korean S4 supports LTE bands 1/4/7/17. The info are scattered around and carriers don't specifically release these info so that makes things even harder.
But assuming the wiki info is reliable, if you can explain how it works or not work would you please enlighten the rest of us. Thanks.

i have a shv-e300s too, and i have used lte because of skt hidden menu by switching to option lte all on the network mode because it doesnt have the option lte band 1 like your app do. and a few days ago my lte suddenly stopped working and i don't receive signals from my network when i switch to lte all. do i need to root it first? im from the Philippines by the way and my network use band 1 for lte thanks bro

I looked at some specs somewhere for the Vodafone S5, and it apparently supports all of AT&T's LTE bands. If this is in fact true, I'd much rather buy one of these because they allow you to unlock it. Does anyone know where I could get one of these for the US/verify the specs? AT&T uses 2, 4, and 17 for LTE (2G/3G are the same throughout all models).

The real question is.. does it support carrier aggregation?

AT&T said that they aren't using carrier aggregation to improve speeds or bandwidth for consumers, but to "more efficiently utilize the spectrum and meet users' data demands as more users utilize LTE".
They specifically stated that advertised download and upload speeds won't change.
Because of this, I honestly don't mind if there isn't carrier aggregation on the Canadian models.

It's bands are fully compatible with AT&T.
It'll work with no issue.
