I have read so many complaints and rants and raves. But all in all have seen most of them fixed with roms and kernels. This is a pretty pointless post but I just wanted to see one with people that are happy with their evos. I got mine at bb on launch day and still rocking it.
Sent from my Evo using XDA app.
Happy? I just proposed to my Evo.
Although nothing will beat my first phone (Sanyo VM4500)...the EVO is the 2nd best phone I have owned
++ I got mine on day one. Just did OTA updates and turn off all radios until I need them. I can go 3 days before a recharge with moderate surfing, texting, and phone usage. I read XDA forums mostly to understand how the phone works and how to avoid problems, but I think the stock EVO used sensibly, just plain rocks.
I'm not one of those who walks down the street with my phone in my face, nor do i walk through the mall with it glued to my ear, nor do i care about email push. I can understand how battery life is an issue for some, but for a dinosaur like me, it's the best Smartphone I've ever used. In fact, when you think about it, it's actually more powerful and capable than the Win 98 computers we were using just 10 years ago!
Android is a great os if:
You are a min / maxer and can take things into your own hand with root and custom roms.
The issue comes when you are not willing to do the above but still expect certain things out of the box.
The average mindless cow with little clue will do just fine with any os.

I agree that unfortunately this device does not come out of the box set up well for the average "phone" user. Getting the most out of the EVO or Android in general is not for the faint of heart or impatient (or stupid) people.
That said, I too am almost ready to propose to this phone. Two more paychecks and I can afford the diamond crusted engagement case I have on lay-away (that was a joke..)
I would say best phone ever but to be honest I don't think of the evo as a phone, at all. It is truly a pocket sized computer that comes with a phone and is sold by a phone company. It's nothing short of revolutionary.
I got mine launch day from Best Buy too, been loving it, no root or nothing and no problems.
If you use the evo stock, you don't have problems, just battery, but if you root the phone, the problems start!
Sent from my EVO!
I got mine from launch day, been loving this phone already. I've rooted and don't see much problem at all. I think if you know what to do after rooting then most problem.can ne resolve easily.
I've tested so many rom and still can't find much problem at all.
This indeed the best phone i've own.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I'm still using stock from the day I bought it, the 2nd week it came out with all the OTA updates. No root, yet! I get 14 - 18 hours per charge with pretty heavy usage. People just need to read and tweak.
I love my Evo and my girlfriend loves it when I bring it to bed with us.

Just? Dude, we've been happily married since launch
I just started a similar thread before reading your thread.
I'm rooted, running baked snacks 9.6 (the latest was slow) with the netarchy-toastmod FPS fix and overclocked with setcpu. I leave gps, wifi, and 4g on continuously just because I can (I rarely get 4g reception in San Marcos TX). Last night I didn't even charge the phone and I still had 50% battery life when I woke up. I get 55 frames per second consistently (stdv 5-6), and 5-point multitouch (I can play 5-note chords on piano app). It is blazingly smooth and fast. I spent hours downloading apps... probably have like 70 by now and it's still incredibly fast.
I love how I can just go to Google Nav and say my location and it understands me, and loads the destination onto the gps. In fact many apps I can just talk right into the phone and it just translates it.
I completely customized the home screen. It's pretty much my dream phone post XDA help. I have yet to find a single flaw. And it was a lot of fun learning how to root, flash roms, install kernels, and customize. It's like building your own PC and tweaking it to perfection. But then again I like projects and customization so the android community and xda community is definitely the place for me. The developers here are so awesome.
The difference between the EVO out of the box and the EVO in my hands is so large it may as well be called a different phone and it's all thanks to open source, sharing community.
I guess it's obvious I've become an EVO junkie by now. Iphone's are smooth out of the box, but so boring. What's to play with?
I compare the iphone to an xbox360 and an EVO to a PC computer. The former works out of the box (mostly) but you are limited to a closed system. The PC can be endlessly tweaked and customized.
Anyway, cheers!
The Evo is a great phone, and a great development tool.
I have had mine sine i/o, and my network is big red. It's created quite a powerful duo for me. No 4g, but I don't really care about that. I don't even think it's in my area, but I'm not even about to map check it.
This phone has allowed me to get back into android programming etc without hassles, and I've been doing more and more things every day. I look forward to being able to release roms, themes, etc as well, once I get the hiccups polished out
As for the Evo, really, if it wern't for the XDA community, I don't think it would get as much play. I know I would have ditched the phone has it been a case of the Droid X, etc. It came down to the wire, and the Droid X was just days away. I made the choice to stick w/ the Evo, and stay far away from the Milestone boot loader.
I have the Evo to thank for a renewed interest in mobile technology and programming that I have not had, since the Touch Pro 1 days.

What did it take to change the MEID to make it work? I have a DroidX and hate it, I figure I can get a cheap Vz phone and port the MEID if I can find the tools.
Any way, good choice to stick with the Evo, I keep hoping to get one but Sprint sucks where I am at.

I didn't go that route.
You can still manage to make things happen if you bash your head against a wall long enough, and talk to a million different people.
But don't forget. You get no insurance, no support, no anything. They provide the service to you, that's it. Provisioning works with *228, no hassles, but the initial work has to be done by you. Pre-programming, setting up the intricate details and whatnots.
Side note: Why do you hate the Droid X?

If Vz won't accept Sprint phones then how did you get it to work?
And sorry I didn't see until recently that MEID thing was illegal, I actually cam back to delete it but I guess I am too late...
Physical buttons are my #1 peeve I despise the ones on the front and I constantly hit the camera button on the side.
I should not EVER have to hear a button click to press and the pressure it takes to push them could be measured foot pounds plus I have big fingers and always hit 2 at a time.
- There are no words to explain how much I hate physical keys, it takes all caps and vulgarity, you get the idea.
Also coming from an iPhone with great asian support built in, including hand writing, this has none and even on the market the apps to replace it suck (I am being generous here.) I used it daily on my iPhone.
No front camera.
When I turn on Wi-Fi my bars drop in half.

Hi everyone. I recently bought a Galaxy S (Bell Vibrant) for my wife, she saw it and really liked and i was pretty familiar with the specs and all that and all the good reviews so i jumped in and got it. Now since she has it (4 days) the phone has turned itself off for no reason twice and has also frozen a couple of times with one of them being when i was showing it to an apple fanboy (embarrassed). But anyway now my wife isnt very happy with it because she says it feels very light and cheap and she thinks it would break very easy and also complains about it turning off. Today she saw the icrap 4 in the store and she liked it and now she wants that . She says it feel that it wont break easy and its stylish . Now i dont like the iphone at all and i really dont want to return the SGS and get that but i want whats best for my wife. I just read so much on this forum about all the problems people have with this phone turning off, freezing, lag, screen problems, gps, touch buttons, bad audio quality and a few more... I wonder on the screen i dont know if it will last a year before it starts tint issues burn ins and so on. Now i want to know do you guys think this phone would last at least a year two and do you think all this stuff will be sorted out or should i get her the icrap 4. I really dont like that iphone but it seems suitable for my wife as all she wants is somthing that works takes decent pictures and looks good. Please let me know what you guys think as this is really pita.
Sorry for the long and confusing post..
you keep the SGS and get her the "iwantwhateverybodywantsphone"
SGS is not for the normal person
SGS is for people with computer knowledge and linux understanding and windows haters
SGS is a amazing phone if you know how to use it, and keep it clean, the same techniques used in windows works the same in Android, and it does wonderful stuff
ironically in windows those solutions never last, in Android you do it once, and it remains forever set.
no GPS problem, no lag, no lag fix, no freeze, no turning off on its own, it works perfectly on JH2
your description of the phone "turning off" could be either a battery problem, or the phone ran out of memory due all the background apps no closing off and releasing the memory back
Shes got her mind set on the Iphone4, get it and live happy. If not she'll be whinning about it til contract is up or divorce (which ever is faster)

Yes i know how it is with Android as i am pretty familiar with it. I have a X10 myself and i love it to bits, i dont think im ready to switch it for an SGS. However i am not doubting the software of the SGS but the hardware, my main concern is the screen, i see a lot of people here that have problems with it so my concern is durabilty and lifespan i also see a lot of people on here who sent their phone for repair numerous times and that scares me. Now my wife is not set on the iphone as she is not a big fan of apple herself and shes heard me ***** about how bad and limited it is all the time but she just wants a reliable smartphone that she can depend on and not have it crap out by itself for no reason. She likes the SGS but she also likes the design of the crap 4 and she asked me if that would be more stable and not give problems. I told her that i am waiting on a update (froyo) and all the bugs will be probably fixed. Anyway like i stated before its the hardware thats is troubling me. Do you guys think it will last, more specifically the screen. Also can you recommend me wich firmware to use and wich lagfix? as i see there is a few out there, or should i wait for the official froyo release? Thank you for all your help, i really apreciate it.

Haha yes that is true. But the wife doesnt really care about the iphone and she is not set for it completly or somthing. She just said she likes the design lol. And if it would work better to get her that. So i am pretty unfamiliar with Samsung phones thats why im doubting it. I know all previous samsungs were crappy and buggy as hell and with weird menus etc.. So now we have the SGS wich is the first phone that i actually like from Samsung but i still have my doubts thats why i am asking you guys.

Wow....
I'm sorry but some of your posts are ridiculous.
"SGS is for windows haters and people with Linux undersanding"?
WTF
I'm sure the Bell rep makes you fill out a pre-requisite form before you take away a SGS to make sure you have Linux knowledge and hate windows... Thats how they are marketing the phone too...??
This phone is being marketed to the main stream.
And as far as JH2 being perfect. Guess what? When my SGS died I had already updated it to JH2. I got it back from repair on Friday, its JH2 still, and it has turned off on its own twice now. Fresh from being wiped and repaired. Just browsing these forums and seeing all the people with the same issues JH2 or otherwise is a clear indication that there are some serious issues with this phone. Oh, and my co-worker who picked one up after me has now had to send his in for repair as it died. Its his first smart phone, with all of 5 apps installed, so don't try to blame it on hacking or rooting.
You're apologetic fanboy like posts are getting tiring to be honest.
/rant
As for the original poster. Take it back and get your wife an iPhone 4 if thats what she wants. Apple fan boys drive me nuts too, I know, after my SGS died on me I have never heard the end of it..
Well i definitely see where you are coming from and understand your lack of interest on the SGS
but i'm coming from a total 180, and this is the perfect phone, everything came out as planned, from spec, to speed, to software, to features, to funtionality, to well you name it, everything works the way i expected it to work out of the box
way better than windows devices
i've been through a lot of smartphones before, and nothing comes close to the SGS, all previous "smartphones" were nothing but disasters and let downs
just the same way you think about the SGS i think about the HTC devices and the Blackberries, and the Treo600.
However the Treo650 was quite decent, albeit slow online but it was way better than its predecessor in every other aspect.
I still prefer PalmOS over Windows
put either Android or Palm OS on any device with good spec better than SGS and I'm all over it.
right now at this point in time the SGS is the creme of the crop, the supremacy, the top of the top
Looking forward to next years contenders

Hey there, I bought the i9000 on recommendation from two friends that were both iPhone users that switched to nexus ones and never looked back. I have been a blackberry user for about 7 years and gone through (destroyed) most of them. This is my first smartphone and i was looking for something with minimal buttons (to break) and a good screen and good battery life. I didn't realize i was also going to end up with a mini super computer! Lagfix not only solved all lag issues, it now performs like a pack of rabid monkeys... on a touch sensitive leash. I have had no issues with the screen, rebooting, or any other hardware related problems. Any issues were related to my inexperience with android which is how i found this place. Just be careful... so while i can't give you any further information about the hardware, I have to warn you that there is a lot of information about rooting Vibrants that doesn't apply to the i9000 even though they are relatively identical, most importantly the recovery hotkey combination.
Anyway, I'm getting off topic. My i9000 is rooted with MCR Script lagfix, GPS fix, and SetCPU on Performance. Its lightning quick, bloody bright, and about 1000x more than I ever could have hoped for out of a smartphone.

I am on my second Bell i9000m GXY S. Me and my girlfriend bought one just over a month ago.
Mine suddenly died. I had done many flashes and other such things on it, but that wasn`t the cause. The cause was a bad MoviNand chip. Samsungs chip that runs the phone. Before I even modified the phone I was having Force closes. Random reboots and other errors. Having to do battery pulls to get your brand new $600+ phone to work is ridiculous.
I came to Android from Blackberry. Being an apple hater I had no other real choice in my market.
My second Galaxy S (replacement under warranty) came in today. Before I touched anything root it had 2 force closes. It froze once so far under heavy use.
My girlfriends is completely stock and after a couple weeks has random reboots, and other errors similar to mine. I fear her phone will go the same as my first (and likely second) did.
I love the phone but the i9000m seems very buggy and unreliable. I can`t use it for an alarm because 1 out of 20 times it will freeze in the middle of the night. Hers too; which is stock.
It seems to be more of a problem with the Bell variants of the phone, as I see other bell users with the same problems more often then American customers.
I would really wait to make any permanent impressions on the phone until Samsung releasestheir Froyo FW update and possibly fixes the bigger problems with the i9000m.
So I wouldnt push you one way or the other, but be prepared to take that galaxy s off your woman`s hands and buy her a crapple. I may be taking my girlfriends and getting her a Desire HD or whatever HTC releases next in my market. HTC for my friends seems to be rock solid. Again thats just my view and I am probably inaccurate since I don`t own an HTC.
If samsung doesn`t fix the GPS bug (which I have run into on both our phones--- one stock and mine on several roms) and the crashing (stock) on the next couple of updates I will not be buying Samsung again, but will be sticking with Android. I have tried to use the GPS in 3 provinces and 4 states and its really accurate for me less then half the time.

Say what? Froyo isn't released yet. Nothing is forgotten before you actually have an officially released product on your phone. Stop being a retard and don't pollute threads with problems about inofficial firmwares. 3g is not entirely perfect on the released firmwares, but it's definetely there.

and disable all the apps that you don't need to be running in the background all the time
it doesn't matter how "smart" are the smartphones now in days, it's still a freaking computer, if it's not optimized, it will just go crazy
i don't even have a task killer installed, as it's not necessary, as long as you maintain the list of apps you allow it to run in the background then the rest is smooth sail.
i9000m stock JH2, no lag fix, the only fix installed is the SMS time fix

X10 is a stylish phone, its heavy and looks durable. So why not try to switch (assuming she doesn't mind using your "old phone" .. , and you two are on the same network / phones are unlocked)
Being a sgs owner I would recommend you to return it, it has too many issue straight out of the box. This phone requires alot attention, fixes, patient and time. It does have the potential to better then any mobile out there at this time but only if you posses the aforementioned qualities.
My advice get her desire HD or desire, she will appreciate it more then an iphone.
HTC Desire is really popular within the UK even amongst the women because it is easy to use and is works brilliantly out of the box.

As everyone more or less said:
- install the lagfix!
A) if you're technically inclined, flash the rom to something stable and tested by many (yet unofficial and "beta"): JM8 + voodoo b4 (it's in the dev forum)
B) if you're not, get one click lag fix from the market, it doesn't get any simpler! follow the program instructions, and be done with it
Let her play with it for a while with lagfix.
About the hardware quality, i got a i9000 (not i9000m), there's many different SGS and even with the same design might come from different factories etc etc.
Mine is extremely strong even being plastic, i'm very happy about that so far.
Also it's thin and light and has a big screen.
The iPhone4 has a smaller screen, and its a lot heavier than the SGS.
Additionally, you need to add a cover (bumper, case, etc) around the phone to alleviate antenna issues (granted you don't _need_ but it's very highly recommended), so you lose all the neat design factor.
After exposing her these arguments and showing up the lagfixed phone, let her decide. If she wants the iPhone4 (or Desire HD or what not), then just go for it and ebay the SGS many will buy it.
I've only had this Epic for almost a month and am very satisfied with it so far. But its getting pretty old looking on xda everyday to see someone new complaining about not having Froyo. You got what you paid for people, you bought a epic with 2.1 eclair on it, do you buy windows xp and then when windows 7 comes out you complain they won't upgrade you for free? There will always be something better and something new out there or up and coming you can't expect companies to sit there and keep working on things of the past they have to make money as well and they have to compete with each other and try to stay on top. I'm not saying I don't think they shouldn't release it for us I'm just saying you realy can't blame them for moving on with other phones as well. And if you think 2.2 is gonna make your phone that much better then go get a vibrant from tmobile bc I put 2.2 on my girlfriends phone last week and it didn't do much of anything for it, its just software sure your battery is a little better or the system runs a little smoother your not changing what you physically have the hardware is what it is and you knew all of this before buying the phone and if you didn't then you had 30 days to do some research and return it to sprint.

Alright, I'll bite.
most of us did not buy our epic's having seen a forum full of people dissatisfied with samsung's ability to upgrade their phones. I for one bought my phone on launch day. August 31st 2010. It was a sunny day, there was a nice breeze. I was young without a care in the world. I saw a phone with very formidable hardware and better yet, a promise from samsung that the device would see 2.2 in the very "near" future.
Now I don't know what you paid for your phone, but I paid retail price plus tax. If I had known I was actually paying for an education about what it exactly it means to buy a samsung phone I would have looked elsewhere.
that being said, theres one thing I can't stand and that is people such as yourself who waited until after people bought the phone and realized that and official update in a timely fashion not likely, accepted that risk, and then come here to rub it in the face of those who care about things like kernel sources, and custom roms to tell us about how we should all be as smart as you with your divine phone selecting savvy. I can't say that I speak for everyone, but I can certainly speak for myself when I tell you sincerely to gtfo.
yours truly, cozmonot
Ok to someone like yourself I understand that you did not know what you were getting yourself into and I'm not trying to say that someone such as yourself that bought the phone right when it came out doesn't have a right to be mad. I never said I had waited to buy this phone for any reason its just when I see ppl on here that say they just got the phone and now are mad they don't have 2.2 yet its disturbing. I understand we need kernals and source to make better roms and things, I myself am running Nebula and have been since the first week of owning this phone, so as with the rest of you I myself would like it so my rom can be further upgraded. The main thing I was trying to get at is that complaining about how we don't have it isn't getting us it I did not mean disrespect for someone like yourself and I don't think I have any better taste for phones than the rest of us we all chose this phone for whatever reasons but I don't think anyone chose it bc it was going to have 2.2

I agree in that people complaining here doesn't really accomplish much. Apologies, I probably shouldn't reply to threads when I'm angry and tired.
I think we need to make our voice heard by sprint and samsung if we want things to actually happen, and complaining to people in the same position can't make things any better. just look at the vibrant owners who threatened a lawsuit and got the mainstream blogs to post about the vibrant not having froyo, didnt they get the update like a week later? I agree with what you said in your second post and I wish I had known about what I was getting myself into back in August when i signed on the dotted line.

Actually, I did. Also, because of the slide out keyboard. If I wanted a phone forever stuck with Eclair, I'd have kept my Moment.
EDIT: I am not stuck on Eclair, but there are people who don't know about rooting and custom ROMs.

I bought the phone because of the hardware and because it was stated that 2.2 would be coming soon. I don't understand how people like you can just accept that You have the phone with the best hardware specs on the market at the moment and not be pissed that it doesn't have 2.2. While I agree that coming on xda and starting multiple threads on if FroYo is out is not the most productive way of dealing with the problem, bending over and submitting that because you paid money for the device and knew that it had 2.1 on is just a cop out.
To answer your question on what does FroYo add, here is just a few.
- What about all of the people who spent $30 to $50 on official samsung docks and can't even use it to the fullest without FroYo. IT EVEN SAYS ON DAMN PACKAGING THAT FULL FUNCTIONALITY WILL BE UNLOCKED WITH THE 2.2 UPDATE.
- What about bluetooth voice dialing, JIT, flash, and the updated google apps that come with 2.2, not to mention the speed increase. The FroYo update for the Vibrant doesn't count in this case because everyone knows that update was rushed because of the lawsuit business, and that lead to a bugged release.
And if none of that convinces you, the fragmentation of the market is the best example I can give. Do you know how annoying it is to find an app that you know your phone has more than enough power to run, but it won't even show up in the market because it only works on FroYo and up? IT'S THE ****ING PITS DUDE. For example there is this game that some (ex-sony I think) devs called Lame Castle that I really want to play, but it won't work on galaxy s phones without FroYo. Look it up on the market with Epic, it won't even show up. Now go on appbrain and its there clear as day. There are numerous examples of this, but this is the one that affected me that most.
So when you say that we should have know better and should not be upset, all I can say is that I hope you continue to enjoy the anal that samsung and sprint have given you so far. There's a lot more to come.
It was my first Android. It was cool at first, but just wanted FroYo and refused to get the Evo because the screen sucks and no keyboard.

I would have to say my favorite part about what you said was when you said Froyo for vibrant was rushed and has bugs. Because that could be us, we could have a rushed crappy edition of froyo. I understand that it makes it better and we can't do somthings without but if your life won't go on because you can't play some game on your phone (unless somehow you've got a job doing mobile gaming) then it might be time to look at some new hobbies or just pay your way out of contract so you can go get a phone with froyo that will make you happy as a little kid in a candy shop. But it must not be that bad if your willing to wait it out and hope one day you will wake up and see an OTA.

Anyways android is a grey point right now as with your reference to XP you could pay to upgrade to vista/7 (driver / hardware supporting of course) where with android everything is kept under wraps so by the manufacturer until weeks or sometimes months after their "official" software is released and only then can some reverse engineer everything to get what they need to develop.
Hopefully the future of android can be like computer operating systems. Manufacturers only make drivers that way google can push out their own updates or at least give us the ability to do our own.

About the Vibrant, their is no excuse for that buggy release at such a late push date. The carriers have had FroYo since November and and have taken their own sweet time working on it. To add insult to injury, Every other carrier with a Galaxy S phone has pushed out FroYo since November. They even started getting 2.2.1 about two weeks ago. Even the number five carrier in the states, U.S. Cellular, has had FroYo out for its captivate out for about a month and a half now. And guess what? That update went off without a hitch. I also like how you were able to boil down my argument into the my statement about Lame Castle, which in my circles is very important because I'm going to school for that kind of thing, and Vibrant update which I would have even if I didn't have months of knowledge on the situation here and everywhere else that Galaxies are sold. You just get your phone and feel like preaching to me on how I should just take this ****. I bought this phone months ago knowing I would be with it for two years and expecting on Samsung to hold up to their statement of by the end of the year. Its a month into 2011 and still nothing. If you find your epic fine on 2.1, all power to you. But their are people with docks, people that want to make hands free calls while on the road, and people who just want full access to the market, who have all the right in the world to complain over this mess.
Note: Make multiple threads on XDA is NOT the way to go about it though people.

I decided to get THIS phone for the desired features AND the promise of 4G and 2.2 before the ed of the year. While you are entitled to your opinions, I certainly don't appreciate labeling and especially not when you do it from the safety of your keyboard. It just isn't called for.

I didnt read the majority of the posts, I apologize....just want to put in my two cents and I guarantee it'll still be on topic.
People here have the right to rant. They have the right to be angry. They bought a true high end Android phone and are still on 2.1. That's not right... I have an Evo and an Epic...and the difference between 2.1 and 2.2 is really just the Flash (I'm not including what Samsung through in there based off of the leaked roms. Because some of what they through in there was just polishing up the UI and stuff). And Flash isn't really that big of a deal, its just one of those things that is nice to have. But thats beside the point. It doesnt even matter if the only thing different between 2.2 and 2.1 was a damn ringtone...a high end Android phone should be updated. If you don't update these phones, then why would someone shell out extra money to buy another high end phone that will share the same exact features as a low end phone? True the High end will be faster, but it really needs to have something to separate itself from the low end phone and that something should be the fact that it will always be supported...
And this is the problem with Android and this is what makes me sick about it. Android is great...but dammit...they need to relax on these phones and focus on the ones that are out now. They just keep on taking our money, and its going to get to the point where no phones will be updated, they will just keep releasing phones with the new update. And they know people will straight up go buy the new phone just for that update, just to realize that it aint even good. I started with the Evo before the Epic and if I wouldve went from the Epic to the Evo just for 2.2, I wouldve been pissed the hell off. 2.2 is not worth it at all...well, lemme put it like this: 2.2 by itself is not worth it. Although it aint worth it, this high end phone should still have it. If the Evo has it...the Epic should have it. The Evo will probably get Gingerbread and that'll be a damn shame...it won't benefit from it at all...
I mean, when you look at this 2.2 update from different angles, you can see why people rant and get mad. They have the right to...now if we could just put all of it into one thread that would be a lot better than multiple threads...but its w/e.
Also, does anyone else think that nothing else will top Android but Android will "destroy" itself? Android has already destroyed itself with me, if the iPhone hits Sprint, I'm jumping ship.
Sprint should offer an exchange program to go from Epic --> Nexus S 4g.
Because Samsung has failed to resolve long standing problems (dropped keys, tws, gps to name a few) let alone provide promised updates, they should allow Epic owners to exchange their phone for a Nexus, no charge. Because the nexus will be supported by google, it will have issues resolved in a timely manner and provide all promised functions.
It's a long shot, but if sprint actually cared about their customers they would do this and bury these epic's out in the desert next to the Nintendo E.T. game cartridges...
Update: E.T. was on atari...
Yeah it dosnt hurt to dream ha

Lol @ the Nintendo E.T. game cartridges. That game was horrible.
I'm 12 and I agree with this
Epic 4G.. the ishtar of phones?
I believe E.T. was for the Atari 2600. Worst. Game. Ever.
An exchange program would of course be nice, but they would have to do it on all phones. For example any time a second version of a phone comes out, they would have to offer an exchange for people who bought the 1st version right before the new one came out. (That always ticks people off , lol)
If only, if only. It'll never happen, of course.
I very well may be the only one, but after EB13 dropped, I've become quite happy with my Epic. Bought a Yoobao battery to deal with the whole "eating battery" thing, and flashed Syndicate. If nothing else, we can look forward to (hopefully) easier porting of purely Google-baked Gingerbread to the Epic?

It's not about getting acnewer phone. Its about getting a phone that isn't defective.
Basically, you have to choose between having a boring phone and a defective phone. Th nexus s hardware is going obsolete soon, but it is still easily the best android phone available. Similarly, the palm pre I had before, IMO, made every other smartphone os obsolete, but it too was defective. The epic hardware, at the time, but every other phone to shame, it just sucks that it doesn't work half the time. I really thought they would fix gps within a week or two and it would be ok, but here we are wiz months later and it is still broken.

If they fix the TWS and keyboard skipping thing (which only happens very occasionally for me) the Epic would be an exceptional phone. Since it looks like the developers here at XDA have fixes for both I'm not too worried. None of these are disabling bugs, it would be crazy to expect a free upgrade. I've been on stock EB13 with Genocide kernel and I'm pretty happy with my phone.
Besides, I'm not sure I'd be willing to give up my hardware keyboard and removable SD card. The Nexus doesn't really seem much better than the Epic.

This is what I'm thinking/hoping. Given how close the two are this should be fairly easy to port to the Epic right? Other than hardware keyboard, removable instead of fixed storage, and lack of NFC, the two are near identical afaik. Would love to see the Nexus S 4G rom ported to our Epic 4G since it would be able to do what CM7 can't: use 4G radio (which is why I refuse to run CM7, lack of 4G on a 4G phone is a deal breaker imho).

No, you're not alone. The only problem I've seen that everyone's complained about was the camera FC when changing to sports mode, and that was because I actually went to try and duplicate it. Everything else has been flawless for me. GPS has been fine since I initially got it working on DK28. No Bluetooth problems to speak of.

I understand that some people have had issues with their phones, but many have not, including me. My gps has always worked and I have always loved my phone. So, my phone is not defective. The phone I had before this was a blackberry Tour. I am not talking bad about blackberry (b/c I loved my curve) but that phone was HORRID. I couldn't get service anywhere, always dropped calls, and no one could ever get ahold of me. I called sprint an insane amount of times over that phone, they kept trying to fix the problem by sending airraves, updating prl , whatever.. anyway ended up going past my limit to trade it in and I just had to suck it up and get a new phone as soon as I could. I didn't get an exchange when a newer blackberry came out. My point is, if they did exchanges for this phone , they would have to do it for them all. This isn't the only phone that has had issues. They will all have issues. If your phone really is that defective, you should have taken it back, just like I should have taken the tour back.
They do have a buyback thing, but when they offered me $130 for my epic when I got the shift, I told them I would keep it for that money.

Hmmm.

o****.
I can't seem to understand why people hate their epics. Granted, I also want a nexus 4g... but I don't need it one bit. My keyboard doesn't skip, gps locks fast... basically every complaint I've ever read. Now that's not to say I've never had them. I seriously think the flaw to all the problems is in software. Keep trying new roms man. Im on midnight 4.1. My battery lasts a constant 20 hours, that's with brightness at a constant max with cpu at 1ghz with the undervolt, gps locks within 5 secs, no camera lag (actually it feels like its never taken pics and videos this well...)
Im sure this isn't everyone elsewhere experience but I think no matter what you issues Theres a fix. Im an idiot but my epic works the way its supposed to. The only thing I want now is gingerbread just so we can have hardware acceleration. I think theres a much bigger list of phones out there that deserve to be buried out in the desert, but this isn't one of them.

Ok I'm looking for some honest information without all the flaming n name calling so please be kind in ur responses.
I'm thinking about getting the iPhone bc I'm getting fed up with androids issues, I love Android to death, I've owned the mytouch 3g, Droid2 and now the EVO but I need a phone more stable without all the tweaking n modding to get things to work the way I need them to. Android has major battery problems n the only way to fix it is to buy more and/or bigger batteries, a lot of newer phones have gps n signal issues like the e4t and I just think Android has some kinks it needs to work out before they get to be reliable without having to root n flash roms, overclock etc. What I'm asking is for honest opinions on if I should step over to Apple for a year or so til Android gets there issues more worked out or just stick with this n wait?

Peace out.!!!!! Android rules!!!! Have fun with your apple......
If you really want to switch to the iphone, then go for it. Both Android and iOS have their problems. When Sprint got the iphone 4S, I thought about switching to it. But then I played with one in the store and was shocked at how tiny the screen was, and how awful it felt to hold in my hand. I live in Minnesota, so having the front and back made out of glass (along with the sides being metal) is a big downside because the device gets really cold in the winter. Plus I don't like the idea of having to sync the device to a computer. A phone should be able to be a stand-alone device.
On the flipside, my father hated his HTC Hero and switched to the iphone 4S a few months back. He's not really a techy guy, and he loves his iphone. The only downside is that the iphone 4s also has battery life problems, so I am not sure if you can escape that problem. In the end, it kind of comes down to a personal preference between the 2 OS choices. Both are matured enough that there doesn't appear to be a clear and obvious winner at this point in time.

I use my Epic for work and play. No way I could use an iPhone for the work part of the equation!

i switched to the iphone as well after deving some alphas for my evo that im going to make public soon i love android and i miss it a bit after 11 days with the iphone and 8 with the galxy s2 i see that ios is much more stable then android as its closed source and kept maintained and updated regularly by apple and the response and structure of the system is much more organized then that of android but i miss my open source allot i miss the apps and the roms and flashing and deving! i hate waiting so damn long for a god dang jailbreak !!! thats so hard to crack it takes teams to find and xploite its really agonizing to own a iphone 4s but if ur up to it u can stand the wait and the lack of change of roms and ios is lovely

I tinker too much to like the iPhone. Custom kernels, ROMs, etc. Then again I would probably sleep more if I had an iPhone ...
I can easily get 9 hours. Im not a heavy user most of the time, for example I am on 22% and I took it off the charger, probably 50 hours ago, but I havent been doing too much, 5-20 min convo's here and there, playing around with a few apps, streams a bit of music while driving into the city, a hundred txts or so. I have easily been talking on the phone for 6 hours straight and only lost 15-20%. Pretty recently, but I am also running ASOP.

Idk I just know my EVO isn't going to last much longer bc I need a phone that can last a good 9 hours n actually let me use it without watching the battery go down like the gas Guage on an old truck.

No u have 14 or 30 days to try it and swap or return it idk if sprint made the change from 30 to 14 days yet so check when u buy
Edit: and all u need for your evo is a new battery if yours is draining that fast its because it is old and has lost its spunk, u can buy a 3500 or on eBay you can get 3 1800mah slims for about 20$ with an external charger much cheaper than buying an iPhone that wont do anything you really want and wont let u use anything for work if your work uses windows cuz iPhone wont let u do anything related to Microsoft except check your email
I loved my iphone. But regretfully switched back to the evo due to financial reasons (ie: selling the iphone) if you're interested in getting one used I have listing on ebay for a 16gb. Look for the one in a lifeproof case

Have you tried buying a new OEM battery? Much cheaper than the iphone and that should help your battery problem. These batteries don't last forever
