Download terminal emulator from the Market and type in
cat /sys/class/block/mmcblk0/device/name
Then hit enter.
Edit: There is a space between "cat and forward slash". No space after that.

Lol, nothing, just wait it out, i have the "bad" chip and my phone is fine. If your unrooted, it probably won't die before you are eligble for an upgrade. Unfortunatly, thats the best advice i or anyone can give you.

bad chip
So , well doesnt matter what method I would use to root and unlock? only wait and see ?

Ok, since your on Gingerbread, youll need to downgrade to froyo.
Use this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912
Then you'll need to root it once your on 2.2.1
Use this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996
I know its a lot but make sure you read all of it before you actually do it.
Oh, and GFree is a package that uses exploits to gain root. It also sim unlocks. I believe there is a youtube video on how to use GFree, it looks sketchy but follow it lol.
Here is the link for that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4B4y0CQUDo
There is a part two so find the second part.
Hit thanks if i have helped

I'm not here to bash anything, so don't take this the wrong way, but DO NOT USE THIS METHOD. I did the same thing after a while it will turn off your phone randomly and brick it. You probably won't believe me but you'll see, it has happened to a ton of people. I just don't want people to make the same mistake I did. DO NOT USE THIS METHOD.

doesn't this mean we'd have to revert back before we can do anything?
No, not really. Only if you wanted to go back to stock for warranty purposes.
So what does "a-off mean" and why does it matter.

it's S-off and it means the phone is truly unlocked. right now we can only do things from recovery, with S-off we can do anything we want and do it with the phone booted up.

if this S-off mod was done to the old Hboot wouldn't we have to go back and use the old hboot?

Just because it means there's the potential that we'll have to use your technique to revert the HBOOT back to .77 in case the new Unrevoked Forever method isn't compatible with .79.
No.
With nand unlocked, we can flash radios forwards and backwards, as well as kernels, roms, etc.
If you were wanting to remove the hacked SPL though, you would have to go through the typical reversion steps listed in other threads.

[Q] Does anyone know what this means?

And how to fix it!?
Basically for the last two days I have been trying to root my phone unsuccessfully. The problem is with the hboot driver and it not working. The first time i installed the driver it seemed to go fine, but after plugging my Wildfire into the usb I got a new hardware message and it was trying to find "ADB"..
Anyways unrevoked obviously did not find my phone so today I have uninstalled the driver and tried to update it again. At first it seemed to be going well, but then it asked for winusbcoinstaller.dll from disc.. I tried to link a picture but because of my low post count I cant.
Does anyone know what this means and how to fix it?
Many thanks in advance and sorry if its in the wrong section.

[Q] 2.3.3 to 2.2?

can someone point me in the direction as to where in these forums i can find how to downgrade 2.3.3 to 2.2 for my evo? or if its even possible? thank you...i hope.
I don't believe its possible...yet.
not possible as yet unless you have s-off. if you are asking for 2.3 root (hboot 2.16.0001) then the answer is no.

No it has to have been s-off first. Only way to do that is if you flashed 2.3.3 from XDA.
If you did the OTA and you're s-on you're currently stuck.
ok thank you.

Well the first question is... Were you rooted before receiving update? Is your phone S=off, what bootloader version do you have?
Quick answer to if you werent rooted before OTA, then no root is available at this time.

[Q] Atrix 4g. Any help would be appreciated!!!

First off im not a noob. i have/had a nexus s; captivate, att sgs2 all rooted flashed and the sort. my wifes atrix 4g is a mystery. it could be because i havent spent as much time with it as the other phones but anyway heres the prob: when she got her phone it was running either 2.2 or 2.2.xx cant remember but i rooted it using gingerbreak. then she did the gingerbread update on top of the root. here is the problem. the phone still has the supersuser app and looks like its rooted but its not. how do i remove all of the the components of the root then reroot? theres nothing wrong with the phone it works fine no problems whatsoever. a lil info any advanced users could use: system version 4.5.91.mb860.att.en.us running 2.3.4 kernel 2.6.32.9-00001-g41bc3e0 [email protected]#2 build# 4.5.91
any help will be appreciated. ill try to check this tread as often as i can. we just had a newborn 3 weeks ago and a 2yr old running around as well as working full time. feel free to send a pm with any question r possible solutions. thx
