[Q] 2.3.3 to 2.2? - EVO 4G General

can someone point me in the direction as to where in these forums i can find how to downgrade 2.3.3 to 2.2 for my evo? or if its even possible? thank you...i hope.

I don't believe its possible...yet.

not possible as yet unless you have s-off. if you are asking for 2.3 root (hboot 2.16.0001) then the answer is no.

not yet if u find one please share.

you said unless its S-off... is there a means to turn it off and root from there?

No it has to have been s-off first. Only way to do that is if you flashed 2.3.3 from XDA.
If you did the OTA and you're s-on you're currently stuck.

ok thank you.

Sorry.
Sooner rather than later it will either be unlocked from HTC or hacked or both.

How to unroot nexus one?

i wanna make it as the factory rom. can i do that?
Nope, pretty much we are stuck with root (i've been trying to find a solution as well)
same question, different day...
You can unroot it and restore back to stock rom, but your bootloader will remain unlocked. There is no way to re-lock the bootloader as of yet.

Follow this thread and it should put you back to stock excluding the bootloader.

Why don't you just do it? If your N1 ever has a hardware issue, HTC is repairing them, bootloader locked or not.

Unrevoked Tweet

Does the S-off on the bootloader mean we'll be able to load unsigned roms with nand access?
Yes.

but it does allow you to write to /system without shutting your phone down with Root Explorer! That radio looks pretty good too!

Screenshot shows that this is running on Hboot .77, that's a bit disheartening :\

doesn't this mean we'd have to revert back before we can do anything?
No, not really. Only if you wanted to go back to stock for warranty purposes.
So what does "a-off mean" and why does it matter.

it's S-off and it means the phone is truly unlocked. right now we can only do things from recovery, with S-off we can do anything we want and do it with the phone booted up.

if this S-off mod was done to the old Hboot wouldn't we have to go back and use the old hboot?

Just because it means there's the potential that we'll have to use your technique to revert the HBOOT back to .77 in case the new Unrevoked Forever method isn't compatible with .79.
No.
With nand unlocked, we can flash radios forwards and backwards, as well as kernels, roms, etc.
If you were wanting to remove the hacked SPL though, you would have to go through the typical reversion steps listed in other threads.

Has anyone found news about 2.3 for us???

I wake up everyday looking for news about 2.3 getting released. I am on 2.2.1 so I lost the ability to root. So i hope this comes out soon and if anyone has any info please post.
Officially it should come out in "coming weeks" as this tweet suggests - http://twitter.com/googlenexus/status/16974464310845440.
But there's a way to root your 2.2.1 anyways. Follow this guide:

Just unlock your bootloader.
I have tried the super one click no luck
Other than unlocking, which is the preferred and safest way to do it. You could just follow the guide that was linked here. I did it for my friend just last week because he was afraid of the official way to root for some reason. It worked perfectly.
Yeah I did it the rageagainstthecage way.

Works fine for me. Did you get stuck at the looping problem after following the steps in the OP?
The way around that, as many of us have discovered, is to turn the phone off then run SuperOneClick and select 'root'. Turn the phone back on once 'waiting for device..' is shown in the program and then just leave it until it finishes.
Ensure USB debugging is enabled before you get started and that your PC has the required drivers installed. (Check Device Manager).
To be fair the Original Post needs updating as the instructions aren't very good without the above being mentioned.

Dumb question but, does that method allow you to install custom roms (e.g. CM7) without unlocking the bootloader, thus keeping the warranty?

Using exploit to root allows you to get rooted device without unlocking the bootloader. However, I cannot tell you 'your warranty is kept' for certain(as long as bootloader is locked and you can revert to stock, I think it's okay).

This does not unlock the boot loader....... and, yes you can flash roms once rooted.
Good luck on that warrenty buisness.

If you do revert to stock there should be no way to tell you ever modified the rom, isn't that right?

His question isn't about relocking the bootloader. But as long as you reflash the stock ROM and recovery, then I don't think there would be a way to tell without further examination. Regardless, HTC isn't too strict with the warranty claims, as many members on this forum have claimed warranty and sent back rooted phones to HTC. You should be fine.

that's 3 weeks. "coming weeks" being a PR equivalent of more than a month, we should be waiting for gb another 2 weeks at least...
It's only 5% of GB, but you can have the keyboard from it. A definite improvement and works perfectly on my N1 with 2.2.1 (no root needed):

[Q] Does anyone know what this means?

And how to fix it!?
Basically for the last two days I have been trying to root my phone unsuccessfully. The problem is with the hboot driver and it not working. The first time i installed the driver it seemed to go fine, but after plugging my Wildfire into the usb I got a new hardware message and it was trying to find "ADB"..
Anyways unrevoked obviously did not find my phone so today I have uninstalled the driver and tried to update it again. At first it seemed to be going well, but then it asked for winusbcoinstaller.dll from disc.. I tried to link a picture but because of my low post count I cant.
Does anyone know what this means and how to fix it?
Many thanks in advance and sorry if its in the wrong section.

Well the first question is... Were you rooted before receiving update? Is your phone S=off, what bootloader version do you have?
Quick answer to if you werent rooted before OTA, then no root is available at this time.
