Hi Guys
Tomorrow I upgrade from Dell Streak 5 to Samsung Galaxy NOTE !
Bit unsure so please convince me I am 100% right doing this I am 99% sure
Love the Dell Streak hoping I am gonna love the NOTE even more for the next two years
Any Streak owners out there made the same move ?
I'm just waiting for the white Note to make an official appearance in the UK and then I'll be doing the same ... Trying to justify to myself that I need that extra 0.3 of an inch but the overall performance compared to the Streak and future android updates are the clinchers for me

been using dell for year, Note is much better, you won't be disappointed... dell is good, but note is a lot lighter and faster...
I had the Streak for a while and while it was good, the Note is a lot better in my opinion. You won't regret it.

I had the Streak and really loved it. I would flash every new Streakdroid rom that DJ Steve made. But it reached a point of diminishing returns where no matter how good the new ROMs were the device performance was not improving much. So I swapped it out for a Galaxy SII over the summer and didn't miss the size so much. But when I saw the Note I knew I had to have it. It is so much better than the Streak, faster, better screen, and I love the SPen. I can go into a meeting or seminar and take notes on the Note and not worry about carrying a separate notebook. Even though its not noticeably thinner than the Streak, it just feels better in your hand, mostly due to the difference in weight.
So, basically, my advice is to go for it. You will love the Note and not regret it for a moment.
+1 from the good old Streak camp

I owned a Dell Streak.
The Note takes everything to the next level performance wise. The screen alone is worth the leap.

The difference in physical screen size pales in comparison to the difference in resolution! IMO, the Streak should have been 1024x600, or qHD, at the very least.
Regards,
Dave
I'm also a refugee from streak land.
I loved the Streak, but was disappointed by Dell's lack of marketing and support.
My first 2 weeks with the note blow the streak out of the water. The screen is brighter and crisper. The UI is responsive and it seem likely that Samsung will support the device with updates for far longer than Dell.
The only downside so far is the touch wiz UI being aimed at portrait use only. I know other launchers will offer that option, but I've heard that they are a bit slower. When i get time, i will have to try them out.

it looks cool ;-P
I like how it has 2 different cameras depending on which pic you're looking at.
Just can't wait to see Galaxy S VIII
I'm all for new stuff but am i the only one who'd like to see a 4'' screen version packed with all the latest features? We seem to be getting several solutions for huge screens but nothing for people who felt 4'' was just perfect. Granted, they're thin and not so cumbersome as inicially expected but there's a limit to how much you can compensate a big screen with lack of thickness
If a 4'' updated sgs (2/4 core with 2gb ram and voodoo like sound and actual working gps) came out I'd get it over any other phone with bigger screen. Am i alone?

Of course not, just poor Photoshop.
To be honest, that doesn't look legit. Especially since it's on a Chinese site when Samsung is a South Korean company.
the site who originally shared this pic. Clearly stated that this is made by a fan in there community and is not a leak . This is indeed made by Photoshop cs5 or any other such software.

you are not alone. thumbs up for 4" screen
I think the reason for gaining larger and larger screens is the manufacturer's obsession on pushing higher screen resolution but unable to make the pixels denser

nothing official yet
just a leaked poster with galaxy series
I don't think it's a leak, more like a concept. There must be a border around the screen else you will trigger the touchscreen every time you hold it

Okay I'll edit this later with all the known stats but for now please help me decide which is should blow my load on, the note 2 or the padphone 2.
In brief
amoled vs IPS
5,5 vs 4,7 + 10.1
Exynos vs S4
Polycarbonate (plastic) vs something better
16gb+SD vs 16gb (both may do bigger sometime circa 2113.)
Buy now vs Buy Dec (knowing Asus buy April or buy a Lemon)
Help please, I little stopped myself buying the note today because of how much better the padphone 2 looks to the PDP1.

Galaxy Note its an unique device.. You can not compare it to anything.. And everything depends on your needs and likes... I can not take anything less than 5.3" Wich its my note 1(waiting for my note 2 to arrive) specs wise the note 2 its the best device to date out there and even if later someone releases something better/faster in processor terms still can not match the 5.55" RGB super Amoled screen

Because this is the only Phablet out there, and it has some cons such as: old CPU and GPU (if comparing to Snapdragon S4 Pro with Adreno 320 GPU), no support from CM (yes, this is a deal breaker for me!), and I personally don't really like SAMOLED screens because of low brightness and bad whites, also they burn in, camera is also not the best out there today (look at the PadFone 2).
The only pros I see for this device is: huge screen, huge battery, sd slot, replaceable battery and Samsung's AWESOME features (S Pen, Popup Note, Popup Play (I know the last two wont work with CM, but they are still there with TW roms, and I can always switch ))
So for now, I don't know what to choose
If the Note II will have CM support (ahm ahm Exynos documentation), I will definitely get it

It'll have a decent screen, its lighter than an iPad 3 (not fair as the screen is far superior), excellent performance, good battery, probably decent camera.

If you look at Asus record as far as android devices are concerned, there are many negative things to say. I had a TF101 and it was crap and looking at all the issues people keep having with their Asus android devices a miracle will have to happen for the padphone to work properly. I have had a 7.7 galaxy tab for a while now and i can count on the fingers of one hand how many times a program has FCed on it. Asus will probably paper release the Padfone 3 six months after the 2 just like they did with the Padfone 1. ..

My Verizon Nexus has burn in on the corners where the Waze icons live. It's not bad, I can't get a good photo of it, but they are there, and quite noticeable when the screen has a darker color across them.

Older / newer (processor term) doesn't mean anything.. Those are 2 different technologies.. It's like comparing the newer AMD against the "older" core i7 xtreme just plain bull****. Note wouldn't be any faster or smoother with snap dragon s4.. The gpu keeps the name but it has lots of improvements over older versions.. And to be honest even with my N7000 I can play any game in the play store...
About cm support.. Tw at this stage has no match feature/smoothness wise.. Why would I flash a very basic flat android when I have a better launcher made by samsung? (Btw if you like aosp looks just install nova /apex)
Camera its not better for mega pixels but the lense and my note does take greate pictures... And I'm not a professional photographer and If I were, I wouldn't use a phone to take pictures so that's just plain dumb.
SAMOLED its great.. I've owned s3, gnexus note 1, no problem so far.. And note 2 has RGB matrix so the little things that bothers me from pentile are now gone.. Bad whites? What do you do with whites? Everyone avoid whites.. Battery raper color...
Low brightness.. Wonder if you spend most of your time under the sun because that's the only condition in which you would need higher brightness and even so my Amoled devices have done well under sunny days..
You are trying to convince yourself of getting anything else but you are not looking at it in the right way... Note its an unique device.. Until now no matter what technology its out there nothing could match note 1 not even s3 or HTC one X why? ... Plain simple massive 5.3" screen/unique features only note 2 could take the crown and so will note 3...
With note devices just 2 things can happen or you hate it because of the size and would never get 1 or you completely love it and would never switch to anything smaller... Thing its that you gotta own the devices for some weeks to figure out that
Cheers

Came from a S3 LTE...Loved the S3...LOVE the Note 2 more...lol. The speed, battery life, screen, all much better! The size at first was a little big, but after using it a bit when I pick up my S3 it seems so small. The note 2 is well worth the upgrade IMOP.
Having used S3 and now note 2 I would say n2 is a far better phone bar couple issues. Screen resolution and camera are better on s3 if you can live with that then go for it however I would recommend waiting for HTC's Butterfly DLX before you makeup your mind. If I had a choice and both butterfly and note 2 where available I would definitely go for butterfly, purely due to far superior design and specs

My now sold Galaxy S3 LTE had the best Amoled screen (in terms of color reproduction) I've ever seen. Absolutely no color cast! My Note 2 has the worst LCD in terms of color reproduction, it is completely yellow...
I see no difference in the camera whatsoever. I believe they are the same hardware, camera wise. As far as the screen, when I set my S3 beside my N2...N2 wins. The pentile of the S3 is just not as good...IMOP.

multi tasking (split screen), lets me watch videos and surf the net. Forget that popup video player. It blocks the screen and is more of an annoyance. split screen video watching and web surfing is definitely the real way to do it.
bigger screen. You get used to the size. The S3 starts feeling uncomfortably small in about a week. You want to be using the Note 2 when making that realization.
S Pen...AirView on webpages totally rocks.
S Note...ability to have a device to write on as soon as it is out of your pocket is a big deal.
Battery life...is as good as you can get for a smartphone.
You do have to get used to the size a little. It is uncomfortable in my jeans when walking up stairs and sitting, but it is a small price to pay for an amazing device.

I also came from the LTE S3. Everything about this phone is better (screen, fluidity, speed, hardware, etc). Go for it if the size doesn't bother you. I love it.
I usually change phones every couple of months, but this may be the only phone I've ever owned that may hold me over until the next version releases.
Also came from the att s3 to the att note 2. You can't compare them. The note 2 smashes the s3 in every way. The screen is so much brighter. The loud speaker is at least twice as good. It's way faster. Everything on this phone is perfect except s note should open faster. I rate it 9.8/10

Actually the screen brightness is identical but it is much faster than a 1gb S3.
Loudspeaker is the best but the most important thing is that the Note 2 will last 8 hours of screen time with no problems!! That is just amazing!

All AMOLEDs suffer from poor readability in sunlight. That is one of the tradeoffs vs LCD. I have read the N3 is slightly brighter than the N2, but not significantly better in sunlight.

How can the screen of N3 be brighter if according to gsmarena test the old Note 2 had brightness at 100% 402, and Note 3 at the same 100% level only 379 cd/m2. The Note 2 was already less bright than original Note 1, I had to root it and very first mod I put on it was app called A brighter Note, that increased the brightness about 10% up. I really want to see the Note3 screen and compare it to Note 2 or Note1.

What do you mean the old Note 2? Are you talking about the original Note? That's old.
But the Note 2 is not even a year old and it was the most high end device you could get. It still is a high end device, not as powerful as the newer Note but it can hold its own. It has a great display fast processor and a pretty good GPU. I've used the S4 and you can't tell any difference in speed in task world (of course benchmark's are going to be higher) but that's just how it is as tech moves at a very high rate of speed.
Just to think that in about 9 month the Note 4 will be all the hype and it's going to have a 4k resolution display, 5+ GB of Ram a 64bit processor, a bigger display by about 1.5 - 1.9 inches. And it's going to be about the same size of the Note 3 just a little taller or wider but noting noticeable. It will also have the new Samsung 2.0 design, so it will most likely be aluminum and gorilla glass. But either way it's going to be different. I personally don't mind the design Samsung currently uses since it's very easy to take the battery out if you need to do fast swaps, ect and do on.

Are you working for Samsung that you know all this? Because if you are not on their development team, do not post speculations and wishes what the Note 4 should be. What is there will be no Note 4 at all?
Read my post again carefully, I am simply asking about brightness of the "new" Note 3 that has been announced vs the "old" Note 2.

Are you working for Samsung that you know all this? Because if you are not on their development team, do not post speculations and wishes what the Note 4 should be. What if there will be no Note 4 at all?
Read my post again carefully, I am simply asking about brightness of the "new" Note 3 that has been announced vs the "old" Note 2.

I pre ordered the note 3 from big red and I'm super excited but how much better is the screen and resolution compared to the note 2? I can't see my note 2 screen well in the sun so I'm hoping it's a bit better on the 3
Thanks for any feed back

T.B.H I think that answer will have to wait until all of the mad scientist on this and other forums get the phone in their hands and they start testing the crap out the phone with different variables. Otherwise you will not get the answer you are looking for, or one that is correct.
Its less than a week away, and more info than anyone can possibly process will be 'known" about this phone for the user group to digest and regurgitate...

4K display will be overkill on a screen that size (not to mention a huge battery drain). The ppi is already post retina and I don't believe for a second that 4k content will be mainstream in 9 months so even more pointless to up a phone display that much. A RAM bump is possible but I don't see it getting 2 GB, maybe 1 GB. 64-bit processor, well that should have already happened, looks like Apple beat them to that first but at least none of us are really missing anything as I doubt many apps really take advantage.
The biggest laugh is the display increase. While I wouldn't be surprised at a Galaxy Mega with that screen increase, the Note certainly will not. ESPECIALLY if you claim the phone design will have nearly the same dimensions. The screen only got a very small bump from the Note 2 and that was largely from removing some of the bezel...and there's not much left to get. If they go completely flexible display to go true edge-to-edge they might get another .5" but not more.
