its really confusing and disappointing that samsung is like selling different kinds of phone in one name. And with that, its so hard to customize it because of major hardware differences..

The home market will always get the LTE with the TV module version. Thats what they did with the SGS II as well.
The 1.4 Ghz version with the physical home button is their international version which is sold ALL OVER aside from the U.S.
the "Old School" 4 Button one you refer to is the U.S version. Its specified that all devices they sell will have the 4 capacitive buttons to follow a schema. Also the U.S version will get a Snapdragon processor. As to the reason behind why the diff processor is unknown to me. I am sure there is some tie up or standard set behind that.
Same was the case with the SGS II variants. Aside from the ATT version of the original SGS II (not Skyrocket).
Majority of the people wont MOD their device and those who do, will come to XDA to obtain the proper MOD / ROM for their specific device.
The buttonless version it's the US at&t LTE note. Basically the same as your Korean.

The reason Qualcomm CPU is used is because it supports 4G LTE, and the Samsung Exynos does not. Sadly the 1.5Ghz Qualcomm CPU is considerably slower than the Exynos chip. Qualcomm is Cortex A8 chip, Exynos 4210 is Cortex A9 chip, which is more effective and faster.

Its not an att note. Its north American, Canada is getting the exact same version on all 3 major carriers BEFORE att even gets it. So call it north American or i717.
And why its different from n7000? Because samsungs CPU doesn't support lte. So they have to use a different CPU till they have a working lte exynos cpu.

I read lots of Korean galaxy note forum through internet and lots of people in Korea have bought international version of galaxy note because of the hardware differences and other reason is that Korean version of note comes with LTE which is amazingly fast. I mean its super fast as I saw the demo of it but you have to pay a price for it!! since its just started recently. However, because its new and there are lots of places in korea where LTE coverage is an issue as well and that is why lot of people have bought international version of note as 3g data plan is unlimited whereas LTE is not...
Samsung made so many editions. Does 1.4g CPU 2- core and 1.5g one 1-core?
I live in Montreal where Rogers is one of the first to start lte. Definitely already using it on skyrocket. Can't wait to get my note in 2 days haay.

Lucky you to have LTE deployed. In France we have to wait another two years for a reasonable deployment.
It will leave me enought time to play with my non-LTE Note and wait for a quad-core LTE version ;-)

That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, LG’s Optimus LTE2 is no longer the only smartphone to come with 2 GB of RAM and Samsung’s SC-06D could steal the spotlight from the recently unveiled LG phone in Korea.
In terms of software, the Samsung SC-06D will run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with TouchWiz 4.0 UI on top, as well as with the “Docomo Palette UI”.

Most likely you would be limited to WCDMA connectivity if you privately imported one of these. (Unlocking is not a problem, DoCoMo unlocks brand new phones no question asked, just pony up 3150 yen)
International LTE bands are a total mess. Over 40 unique band allocations at last count.
I am holding onto my SII until the fallout of how similar/different the hardware ends up being with respect to custom rom development gets figured out. (DoCoMo SII was similar enough to the standard I9100 for most roms to be tweaked into working, though there were digital-TV and GPS issues and the partition sizing was a little different)

According to T-Mo news, a user agent string leaked, possibly indicating that a T-Mobile version of the Note II is on it's way. The model number is SGH-T889, which would make it ten digits higher than the original Note, SGH-T879. The phone is also packing a 1280×720 resolution, and running Android 4.1.
Also, on the T-Mobile S III board here on XDA, another user noted that a minor update to the SGH-T889 is already available on Samsung-Updates website, which means the Note II could be close to launching soon. I'm guessing we'll hear more in the coming weeks.

Yes I am very excited for T-Mobile version, since the deal with AT&T was cancelled, Tmobile is definitely stepping up with their lines of smart phone The biggest news and rumor would be that Tmo version (I dont know about other carriers) will still carry Exonys quad core! unlike the galaxy s3 where they downgraded the CPU. Now thats very exciting news when any ETA for the galaxy note 2 for TMO? I heard lastest November but I hope they release them in October.

Maybe a little research would tell me this but didn't they switch it in the gs3 so that the gs3 could handle 42 mbps network?
Or was that only for the gs2?
Wouldn't the cpu seeing as its same as the gs3 international one exynos still not be compatible with T-Mobile 42 mbps?

Can any of you smart fellas offer an educated guess on what the new line sale price will be? We (my company) will be switching to T-Mobile at the end of this week. I can buy the S3 for $125. I mentioned that I was interested in the Note 2 as well and the rep is offering to let me purchase the Note 2 at the subsidized price when it arrives. He will be getting me a "loaner" for now, if I go that route.
Just trying to weigh out the difference. I have a fairly large phone-nerd streak in me but if I am looking at an additional $250, I may have to scratch my head a bit on the decision. The S3 looks pretty sweet.
Any advice is welcome.

I know this thread has been asleep for a while, but with all the crazyness happening with HSPA+, LTE, etc. for Tmo, If it is possible to get the INT version of the n7100 and get LTE in 4-14 months, that makes an investment in the Note 2 a very wise choice....something I like to do.
But something does bother me. Although I haven't confirmed this, but I read somewhere that tmo HSPA+ is not available for the Note 2. Which seems kinda weird.
Can anyone clarify this?

The N7100 is the international version and if you buy that for Tmobile, you won't get HSPA+ or LTE as it only has HSPA+ (for AT&T, but if T-Mobile is refarming the 1900MHz band in your area, you'll actually get HSPA+) and no LTE bands.
The T-Mobile version, coming out later this month, will support both the current HSPA+ (On T-Mobile on the 1700mhz AWS spectrum) and the LTE bands that T-Mobile plans to use for their LTE rollout.
In short, wait for the T-Mobile one, and get it.
I believe that the AT&T and T-Mobile Note II will be essentially identical. I believe that since Samsung is using the Exynos in the US versions that they're using the same Qualcomm modem in both, so on AT&T it can take advantage of LTE and on T-Mo it will allow the HSPA 42+, and then it will be able to use LTE once it starts rolling out.

They didn't downgrade the CPU in the US Version of the GS3. The international version does have the Exonys Quad core but its the last(older) generation of that chip. The US version came with a duel core S4 chip with 2 gigs ram... which if you actually ran tests, it runs crazy fast and even faster than then Quad core Exonys. This Galaxy Note 2 has the same Exonys Quad core(older version) as the int GS3 and also 2 gigs of ram which make it crazy quick.

What actually makes it quick is the architecture of the S4 chip itself which uses 28 nm transistors for less heat and power consumption as well as the fact that it's based off both the A9 and A15 ARM reference chips whereas the Exynos is A9 based only, so you also get the benefits of the better architecture. However, the Exynos 5 (A15 based) look to wipe the floor with anything on the market currently.

Well, the modems/radios are pretty much band-agnostic, meaning you could probably re-program it to work with any GSM carrier around the world (as long as the chip supports it). That's why the ATT OG Galaxy Note could be reprogrammed to be used on T-Mobile
I understand that they crippled the s3 because of issues with lte compatibility. (even though the korean version has quad exynos and lte)
However, I was under the impression samsung had worked this all out with exynos in the note 2. Also didn't either three or ee or whatever it was in the uk say they would have lte on the galaxy s iv, but only the us variant gets snapdragon? This makes absolutely no sense to me. Samsung is alienating a rather large market.
Now don't get me wrong, i am under no circumstance saying the snapdragon 600 is a bad processor, i think its really great. The gpu is really good too. However, When i think samsung, I think of exynos as its staple, built in-house samsung optimized processor. Also, i think we can all safely assume that the octa will be more powerful do to it being a real a15 quadcore (with the a7 power savers) and not just having a15 like characteristics. Furthermore the sgx 544 has been shown to be a more powerful gpu than the 320 other than not have open gl es 3.0. So i'm confused here. Is there something I'm missing? Am i the only one thinking this?
ps. Anyone hear anything about the exynos 5 quad? Why not use that?

I'm not sure about the LTE specs, if the exynos 5 octa supports it or not but what i know is this: The snapdragon 600 will be PLENTY. It is a very very powerful processor. The only reason i'm going for the exynos 5 octa version is because it is the international version and it is the one that would get all the dev support, more roms and faster updates. But as far as performance goes? They will be identical. Nobody is crippled here
Most likely supply issues those 8 cores don't make themselves then again the lte issue could have sprung up again because this isn't a traditional processor

Yeah, I read what you wrote. I would assume it is in fact a limitation of LTE. Maybe they don't have a version of their current gen chip that is compatible with LTE bands used in the US.

The international one won't even work on verizon (it takes a sim card and is gsm. Verizon is a cdma network that just uses your esn)

Are you sure it will get dev support? I thought cyanogenmod quit developing for the international s 3 because Samsung wouldn't release some code for the exynos on the s 3 international version.

Any gsm network...att, tmobile..etc
Any cdma carrier will not work with international phones...Verizon, sprint...etc

When i got my Droid 4G from Verizon, i got a card in it. Was this a SIM card? I thought that is what she said it was. From what i just read here, i shouldn't need the card for Verizon.

It says in that article that the international one has LTE Band 5.
Look at the list of band frequencies : http://www.radio-electronics.com/info/cellulartelecomms/lte-long-term-evolution/lte-frequency-spectrum.php
This is the European band (around 800-850mhz).

It shows that alot of europe uses LTE 800, and alot of japan uses LTE 850. This is even further confirmed by the fact that Italy is confirmed to get the OCTA version, and 2/3 of their major networks use 800mhz LTE.
However, I have reason to doubt this article. It says the T-mobile version uses Band 15. Band 15 is 1900MHz. T-mobile LTE uses AWS (1700/2100, AWS band). It makes way more sense to assume that the Snapdragon version contains AWS LTE band 4 (this would cover all of Canada and most of the US)

thanks that makes alot more sense. It's just too bad samsung didn't use a seperate modem or plan for that in advance.
Just remember that the snapdragon will be a plus for development. As many developers have sworn off the exynos chip

Yeah, that's the one thing the us version has going for it. Not sure but i thought i saw a post from one of those developers that they would not develop for either though...hoping it was just that one.

That card is to access verizons LTE networks ....its not a sim like att/tmobile
Will people quit posting worthless threads about the processor already!? The snapdragon is going to be better in reality because it clocks faster and wastes much less battery combined with lte. Plus, developers hate exynos and won't develope for it.

I would assume the us version would get more support from developers such as CM since samsung won't release the codes of the exynos based processors, hence not being able to run it up to its full potential. So with the S600 that shouldn't be the case. No?

So I'm really confused here. I'm planning on getting the Note 4 when it comes out and here in Europe, I get to choose between the Exynos model (64-bit) and the Snapdragon 805. So is 64-bit really THAT important for Android L? I don't really care about development support for the Snapdragon 805, I just want the more powerful device. Both versions will feature an LTE modem only the Snapdragon one is Cat6 and the Exynos one is Cat4. In my country LTE is just starting to roll out so that doesn't make any difference for me. Should I get the Exynos model because it's 64-bit?

So I'm really confused here. I'm planning on getting the Note 4 when it comes out and here in Europe, I get to choose between the Exynos model (64-bit) and the Snapdragon 805. So is 64-bit really THAT important for Android L? I don't really care about development support for the Snapdragon 805, I just want the more powerful device. Both versions will feature an LTE modem only the Snapdragon one is Cat6 and the Exynos one is Cat4. In my country LTE is just starting to roll out so that doesn't make any difference for me. Should I get the Exynos model because it's 64-bit?

don't get your hopes to high about 64 bit CPU. From the screenshots of the Exynos Note 4 CPU uses ARMv7 instruction set and for the 64 bit functionality ARMv8 is required. So looking at this and lack of any official work from Samsung I highly suspect that it will be 32 bit CPU with more cores. Also it doesn't make sense to release two so different CPU version since the Exynos version will be eligible for Android L update, but Snapdragon will not(or at least it was the rumor that Android L will work only on 64 bit CPU)

I think I might be skipping on the Exynos and go with snapdragon since that what I can get locally in Canada, a big disappointment for me since I wanted to get 64 bit Exynos (for android L )

It looks like a substantial victory, sometimes >30% in some benchmarks for the Exynos. Does the Mali GPU similarly dominate over the new Adreno?
My big concern is the development of the Exynos vs the Snapdragon; concerned that there maybe CyanogenMod and AOSP based ROMs might have issues with the Exynos version (they had difficulties I remember with the Note 2)? Samsung I remember had really poor documentation for its Exynos SOCs, which could be an issue.

What carrier are you on? Any idea if the Exynos version will work on Wind Mobile?
To be honest, this phone seems underwhelming in some ways. The Note 4 did not offer water proofing and it was not a huge upgrade over the Note 3 specs-wise. Plus the lack of ARMv8 instruction set SOCs ...
But the issue is there really isn't much competition in the Android phablet space these days. The One Plus One is unobtainable for most of us and well the others are not on par with the Note.

I'm with Fido, probably will have to get unlock Note 4 once it will reach Canada. But assuming that Wind Mobile has Note 3 its highly likely Note 4 will come to the Wind Mobile as well, maybe with some delay though.
All the great things about better performance of Exynos vs Snapdragon is awesome of course, however will you really notice the difference in usage ? I have SGS3 international which I compared to the north america's dual core didn't see much difference in performance of everyday tasks. In addiction to that most of the places don't have LTE-A so snapdragon is pretty much has no gain in network speed and will perform the same as Exynos(at least in Canada where we have only LTE network)
So now the question really is whether its worth going through the pain of getting international Note 4 region locked, deal with it , pay extra $$$ for the Exynos which lacks 64 bit instruction set and in terms of everyday performance you won't notice the difference ?
What I really wonder about is the difference in battery life between those two versions ?

Instruction set ARMv7 is in ARM Cortex A53 and ARM Cortex A57. I have been play with HTC Desire 510 64bit for a while in shop. Installed Antutu and it show ARMv7 in details.
ARMv7 is read from OS as Android 4.4 is 32bit.
IF Exynos 5433 is 64 bit, we will have more with Android L

i got confused by OS readings, seems like I have made solid decision to go after exynos version. Now the hardest part is to wait for it to become available :/

I don't know about Canada but here in Europe I get to choose between the both models if you're not buying it from a carrier. Last year for the Note 3, the Snapdragon one was just a little bit more expensive than the Exynos model.

last two galaxies that I owned I got from online store ... so depends what you call wildly expensive, but definitely it will cost you some extra $$$. Does any one know which region Exynos version will belong ? from the website that I got my international SGS3 they told me that most likely they will get Snapdragon edition .....

Will the Exynos and Snapdragon versions support the same LTE bands? More importantly, will there be an Exynos version that with UMTS pentaband support (including 1700 and 1900 bands?) There are barely any states that supports Cat6. Most don't even support Cat4. Take a look at this:

If you look at the dates you can see that many countries are only now receiving Cat3.

I bought my unlocked International Note 2 from Expansys.ca and it was at least $100 cheaper than the carriers, including priority shipping.
I'm likely going to do the same with the Note 4.

Just pre-ordered from Expansys. Looking at my Note 2 order, I got it the day after they shipped with the express ship option (approx. $27). Hope this comes out soon! :victory::victory:

I paid for express shipping as well. The only issue is that they dont mention which model it is. I have emailed them to ask.
For your Note 2, though it was unlocked, was there any type of carrier branding on the case or in the OS?

For my Note 2 there was no carrier branding, other than the Samsung logo on the top of the device and on the back. Worked like a champ on Virgin Mobile, but this model (N-7100) doesn't have LTE. It'll be nice to have it on the Note 4!
From experience from having exynos galaxy phones and the same phone with snapdragon I always found the snapdragon phones to be more reliable and have less delay but when I had the exynos S4 the camera sensor and audio chip was better (wolfson vs qualcomm). This was important for me but I will not get a exynos phone again as Qualcomm in my opinion are the leaders in Chipset. 801 being a let down though due to overheating!
