Alien #4 is the best. Very stable. And good battery life. It doesn't have OC kernel, EXT4 etc but its stability is unbeatable.
I've experienced widget missing, rebooting, etc issues in other ROMs, but not Alien.

Aura is good. My personal fav is The DarkSide by Nottach. It's got some personal tweaks of his and that special black-oriented theme that drive it home for me. Right now, I'm fiddling around with that new 1.4GHz kernel just because I'm that kinda guy, and it requires CM7 so I have the FP reader version on right now (nightlies don't do it for me).
how about a ROM with webtop running?

Problem with Google apps after installing CM7
We all know that CM7 is the best. I installed it exactly as described, but after I install the package with the Google apps, none of the apps actually show up on my phone.
Any ideas?

I have been using CyanogenMod for a while now, but I want to give Sense another try. I have a couple quick questions.
- Are there any Sense ROMs that are a fairly decent balance of fast and stable? I can deal with the occasional force close if the ROM is significantly faster than another, but I'd say stability is more of a priority to me.
- I don't particularly like the Sense People and Calendar apps (I've found they're a bit slower than the AOSP apps). Can I just install the AOSP versions without major stability issues? If yes, would the Sense dialer still be able to pull from the AOSP Contacts app?
Thanks in advance.
Edit: I omitted one thing. I'd say that stability is the most important aspect, followed by battery life. I know battery life is mostly determined by the kernel. Can anyone recommend a good Sense kernel as well?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I would try WarmZ 2.2 or Incredibly Re-Engineered both of those are sense 2.0 and are stable and fast. I liked both. But it's up to you!
Kernel wise, the kernels they come with worked great for me.
SkyRaider 3.5 w/Lou's #8 - slick....
4.0 is due out very soon.
Nils business z with ziggys latest bfs wo havs kernel is very stable with xcellent battery
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Z ROMs are nice, and quick, but there's been a spattering of reports on phantom calls and reboots. Hence, I would not say they are fully stable and dependable. There are also some quirks when using some apps (e.g. swype keyboard).
In my experience, you need to stick with 100% incredible framework if you value stability and reliability. I am a huge fan of both IncROM and Magnolia. They are both very fast in my book, and everything works out of the box, so to speak. When SR 4 hits in a few days it may be great as well.
To your question about contacts...
No, you cannot simply install AOSP versions onto a Sense ROM. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I've never had any issues with swype on z roms or had any random reboots or phantom calls (I'm not even sure exactly what that refers to). I've usually used the warm z nightlies. Guess it just depends on the phone/rom.

yeah, the issue I'm referring to is more of an annoyance. You know, how the Sense copy/paste functions cover up the Swype word choices when you double-click a word to correct it? It's the little things....Still, I am very torn between Z-ROMs and Inc ROMs because I do like many other things about the Z.

I use Swype. I also ask annoyed by that issue with the cut and paste option blocking the word choice/edit on MIUI. I assumed it was part of Gingerbread. Not so?
Edit- pls excuse my blunder. Of course Warm Z is not GB so that answers my question. Then again MIUI is AOSP and also has that.

My strong recommendation would be Magnolia. Options are superb.. battery is splendid... and the developer entertains personal requests.

New user here, I'd just like to say Hi. I'm usually on the Moto Droid forums. Just got my Nexus S 4g today and I LOVE it.
Rooted running CM7 Nightlies.
I just had a few questions
I understand this phone cant do 720p. Is there a hack that can?
Does RenderFX help battery life? if so, which setting?
What are some roms/kernels you suggest?
Also, ill be working on some Themes for the Nexus S, (I'm a theme designer).
I usually make themes that make the phone look like another phone (iPhone, x10, Atrix 4G)
I'd also like to thank XDA for providing such an active user-base.
Think of a theme and ill try to make it, Thanks
Best battery life rom I found was oxygen. I thought I was going crazy because the battery life was so good. Its great plus you can download voodoo and it has netarchy kernel. Plus its aosp more than stock. Miui is most beautiful theme rich rom but battery life sucks. Cm7 was OK for me just kind of buggy. So I stuck with oxygen. Oh and nope...no camera hacks yet. No HD video or zoom. Sorry.
Hope this helps

For my TASTE, I like decks 1.3d since I had the least amount of issues with, none really. The kernel I have had the best luck with is Matr1x 6.0 cfs. I like the fact that it has voodoo if needed, bln and bld now. Since I updated to 6.0 I have had no lockups or reboots period. I don't change the speed or volting just the govenor (sp). They are smooth together. But for what its worth phones might not like the same thing as another.
I have tried just about every rom on xda for the ns4g.
Decks
Miui
Ice and fire
Stock rooted
Oyxgen
Kings
But I don't want to try cm7 as to battery life when I get well over 12hrs of use daily and no nightlys cause it seems like something is always broke. No offense to either or anyone, just what I prefer.

On the MIUI discussion. Has there yet been a MIUI published that has an App Drawer built in, or has the capabilities of using one? I tried MIUI a while back but could not get past it not having an App Drawer. I know I move the apps to a folder and have the folder docked but this does not work quite the way I want it to, that and I have over 130 apps, and this takes a long time to move them to a folder. To be honest it is the only thing holding me back from using MIUI again.

For one yes you can use any launcher you want and have an app drawer and second there is an alternative app drawer in android developement forum and the market.

Market launchers certainly work fine with MIUI ROMs.... Plus, if anything, you can just make a folder for all of your apps, set it to "arrange alphabetically" and just put all of your apps in that folder.

ok, no miui app drawer. if you have 130 apps then i would suggest you sort them by use/function in folders. ie. Social/Tools/Games/etc.
other then the miui.us version all the roms you see are themed variants with additional apps/build.prop tweaks. most are setup by Nick and his team.
i usually just download stock miui, and rip the build.prop out of nicks rom edit it to suit my needs, strip out the crap apps i don't ever use zip and install.

MIUI doesn't have a built in feature to set CPU speeds. But most other CM based roms does have such option built in. Look for something like Performance->CPU in settings. There you can set a CPU governor too

Pretty much any Gingerbread rom you install is going to be stable.
The dev's have worked a long time with it and the main difference is features now, not stability

Most stable rom is CM7. I wouldn't do any of that modded CM7 stuff just regular old CM7 from http://get.cm. CM7 runs great, gets the best benchmarks, run the smoothest, gets the best battery life, and is completely stable. I haven't even had one crash on any app yet and I've been running and installing the latest nightlies for 2 weeks now. I love CM10 but for me I just got tired of the glitches/horrible battery life/overheating/no video camera/stability problems.
