spen lag and not precise - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

hi all im using kj4 uk note version and their isnt any updates for me as of yet but im having issues using the spen to draw, its the main reason i got this phone and ive had it for a few days but i just cant get the hang of the pen. i draw then the pen catches up with my on screen actions and then if i try to complete a line or draw a box using 4 different line strokes it would be very easy on paper to match up the corners of the box but on this device it not at all
is their anyway to improve this spen... ive installed sketchbook mobile and its worse then the smemo app

i am not the only one
Same results on my end and the center point where the pen starts to write can really need some calibration.. I dont really use the pen that much but it irritates me when I do want to use it and end up starting to draw or line something out of my "target"

open a S-memo, choose the eraser option.
while holding the pen on the screen change
the angle of the pen. You will see the tip
'move' inside the eraser circle. now get used
to the angle in which the tip is in the center
and your drawing will be dead on, and you will
be able to even draw in those 'seemingly dead'
corners aswell....

Click to collapse
The only thing i have to mention is to reduce the eraser size and make it small to be very accurate with finding you pen "golden" angle.
I hope this helps!

It is a software problem. The devs have forgotten how to switch on multiple axe systems for the same space depending from the angle/point you see the area. So they sucked it with a simple solution the just move the drawing area and not the tip of the pen. To prove that go to the SPEN setting and put left hand dominating and redo this test and you WILL see what happens on the left side of the screen.
And trust me Samsung or at the developers who did that knew because they fixed it, let call it so, i would say hiding it on memo they put a none draw layer on the EDGE to hide it, but they forgot the SPEN test and the photo EDITOR

There are points where you can't draw and hold the pen with every finger angle you want

Smart german you are right. Can this be fixed!?
No reply? Someone should try and find a fix for this thing
They probably will not fix it, nor anyone will because the ics update will fix this. Ics has pen input built in.
The issue is not present in older Roms, this is why i left kl8 and back to kk5, which is better, smother and dont have this problem of touch screen.
I noticed that this is happening when touching app icon on right side.

I think that you are wrong....because I moved back to kernel 5 especially to check this... And I think its the same.now I am back on kernel8
Can you post a screenshot to prove this problem doesn't exist in kernel 5?

How S-Pen really works [use your Note2 without touching the screen at all]

Hey guys,
yesterday night while playing around with my international Note2, I found something pretty interesting, and I was able to control the entire phone WITHOUT touching the screen at all, neither with my fingers nor the S-Pen.
Basically the phone doesn't recognize the S-Pen click/tap by the contact of the pen with the screen, the phone does recognize the "tap" when the pen tip goes back.
Now try yourself: with the help of *whatever you want* ( I used a poker playing card ), bring the S-Pen near the screen, let's say over an icon, and with the object you've chosen make the pen tip go back. If you're accurate enough, you will see the icon being pressed.
Now throw the object away and use your fingers, take the pen in your hand, keep the tip pressed with your index finger and have fun.
I don't know if this might be useful for some future development or has already been posted/discovered, I'm just sharing my experience.
Best regards,
PurPLe SKy
Wo! You're right... It works!!

LOL, ok, ok
I got my Note2 less than a month ago and I discovered that just yesterday, also the title of the topic didn't match anything relevant/similar
here's a funny trick you can play on other note (2) owners if they have a somewhat flexible case: attach a magnet to the back of the phone.
it won't hurt any of the electronics, but the s-pen will refuse to write above the magnet.
I figured that out when I got a nice 360 flip case with a not so nice magnet in the back.
it took me a while to figure out there was nothing wrong with my stylus.
How to use s pen without touch to screen please reply me

Note 3 - S Pen not registering bottom right corner

Hi all, I want to check something with you.
On my N3 the S-pen as well as the little blue circle do not appear in the lower right corner. Its a very small area but nevertheless it does not register.
Note 2 users have had the same issue, see THIS thread.
Can you check on yours so that I can rule out a faulty N3?
Thanks!
Same thing here. Though I can still scribble in that area in sketch pro.

That's a shame really. Doesn't affect it really but it would be nice if there was an option to calibrate the pen.

Even the *#0 menu, the spen test ignores that area, the same with the note 2.
I guess it's to avoid interference (if you noticed, it's the same corner where the spen slot is.)
Hello !
I got the same issue (if it's one...).
Envoyé depuis mon Snanfoïde n7000
Same here but i dont think this is hardware issue.to double check go to dial and type *#0*# then go to Spen hover.
Hi everyone,
I am having the same issue. I noticed it today when I played a bit with the Microsoft Remote Desktop in the landscape mode. The X button to close a window is at the exact spot. I was I bit annoyed that I couldn't close a window with the s-pen, but I could with a finger. So I checked in the test menu and I saw the problem there.
I was thinking of returning the phone as I also have the multi-touch problems experienced by multiple users of this forum. I will probably contact the Samsung support to check what they have to say about those issues. I really like the phone and those might be minor issues, but they can be quite annoying if you have an expensive phone like Note 3. I will check in the local shops if the phones there also have the issues.
EDIT: I have attached an image of the s-pen test menu. Don't mind the pink tint, as I used a crappy phone camera. You can see that the s-pen isn't detected in the lower right area. In my case, there here is also a small area in the lower left corner.
EDIT 2: I have spoken with Samsung support. They have told me that the inability to use this area with the s-pen is due to a design constraint. I have also asked about the multi-touch problems and they have told me that it is not intended to use more than two fingers.
Greetings and have a nice day.
I'm going to unbury this thread as I've noticed that my Note 3 (bought at 10 March 2014, so probably a recent built) takes considerably more pressure to activate the digitizer on the bottom right, pretty much above the speaker.
This is noticeable for instance on the . key on the Samsung keyboard. Apply the same light pressure as on other keys and nothing happens. Push it harder and it triggers. This becomes quite annoying while typing with the pen, especially for people coming from the N2.
If you like to use your fingers you'll be OK. No difference at all.

Just a note about the S Pen (pun intended)

So the other day I was using the S Pen to type out a text when I noticed that it was acting funny. I would get double letters and buttons on the keyboard would register while just hovering over the screen. I was getting very frustrated and couldn't figure it out. People online said to try to re-calibrate it or smack it a bunch of times.
So after getting nowhere from smacking the heck out of it, I realized that the S Pen doesn't function well with 3rd party keyboards.
I had installed the Google Keyboard and was using that. As soon as I switched to the the stock Samsung keyboard the pen functioned perfectly.
This may be common knowledge to some, but I just thought I'd give others a heads up, in case this is their first time using an S Pen, like it is mine.
Working fine with swiftkey

Biggest annoyance so far with this phone...

My first Galaxy device. I know it's been this way for awhile with Galaxy devices but making it so long pressing the back button to get to the menu/settings window was a terrible idea. I can't even access some in app options due to this unless I use the Assistant Menu feature. Sorry, but I don't like having the Assistant Menu button icon on my screen 24/7. We need root so we can hopefully customize the hardware key shortcuts.
Oh, and I also find part of my palm always in direct contact with the edge of the screen and then the screen doesn't register any touch input until I remove my hand. Have to get use to this. Coming from an LG G3.

I actually have issues like this with note 5 sometimes with no case. Bezels are so narrow, that when a bit of palm is on screen, other touches don't register .. It can get pretty bad and totally unusable.
So I was nervous about getting the edge because of this.
I took to best buy to try it out, do some testing and simulating some clumsy fingering of the device and see if it was worse..
Well I barely had any of the issues unless I tried very hard. But the big difference was, sure..it was possible to touch something like an icon if my fingers or palm overlapped, but it wasn't as bad as my note5 could sometimes get...meaning that with slight overlap on s7 edge, I was STILL ABLE to scroll and make other touches on screen.. Maybe they improved it, but IF its still a bit flaky, its very noticeable to you because its your first Samsung since they've made the side bezels super thin. I hope its not too bad. I usually just like to use a skin or a nekkid phone. But a case sounds like a must with the edge7 if touch detection is jacked. I pad was able to sort it, I hope Sammy can.

I have the same issue. Main reason why I took my S6 Edge Plus back. I messed with this phone at the store didn't have issues. I bought the phone, I catch myself having that issue when I'm laying down because I'm trying to hold it tightly. Again something I hopefully can get used too. Cause I love the phone itself. Coming from iPhone 6S Plus
my annoyance is not being able to change to the font of my liking
By far not having the options of " just once " and " always " to set app defaults.

Download the app "Better Open With". It fixes that issue completely to how it was before.
