Just got my note and I'm curious if your s-pen need pressure before it starts writing.
Before I got the note, i had the impression that I could just let the tip touch the top of the note and it will register already, but now I have found out with my new note that it really does require pressure, more than the pressure from fingers to register writing and or pressing buttons.
Did I get the dud or is this how it is suppose to be?
either u got a dud, or you are holding the pen too tightly and pressing the button on the side while u are writing

So pinching the top of the pen (not writing hold) with no downward pressure and letting the tip of the pen just glide on the Note is suppose to register writing already?

I once read that if you wrap celotape round the bottom half of the black section this helps it stay in, and its clear.
The ammount of time you need to wrap it around depends on how loose it is.

I noticed that my s pen tip for the galaxy note 2 is wobbly and loose compared to the s pen tip for galaxy note 1. Any of you having the same issue?

yes me too, but i love the sensitivity of it . very sensitive compared to note 1
I've had a replacement N7100 handset and this second pen has a wobbly tip also. If you shake the pen, can you hear the tip/ spring inside shaking which stops when you hold the tip?

The tip should be loose or else it can't detect the pressure. It won't fall out.

Some galaxy note 1 owners had problems with the tip getting jammed/stuck, and the pen forever thinking they are drawing..
I suspect that's part of the 'loosening' of the tip.

I appreciate it has to detect pressure but it's as though the nib drops freely out of the pen by 1mm and then when pressure is applied, this 1mm is taken back up leaving the very end part to actually offer and resistance against the pressure. This is the second one I've had (first faulty handset replaced) and i'm almost certain the first S Pen didn't rattle like this one does. It also moves from side to side slightly.

i noticed gn1 pen slot is more secure like when u put the pen into the slot it gives a audible click, while on my gn2, no click only some friction, both pens feel secure when they r in the slot but gn1 one is more solid, is urs the same?

Its normal. I loosened mine and I had to adjust the potentiometer in mine to lower the sensitivity of Airview. It was writing 2 inches above the notepad!

Ok, this might be nitpicking and may cause some to roll their eyes. But regardless, something that's a little annoying to me and wondering if some/most/all S4s are like this as well. When the phone is laying on a flat surface like a table, the phone is tilted such that the right side is higher than the left. When I press the left menu button, the phone is flush with the table and there is no movement, but when I press the right back button, there is space between the phone and table and the phone wobbles as a result. Ideally, the phone should have a tiny bit of play when pressing buttons on either side, not no play on the left and a big gap on the right side.
I then removed the back cover to take that out of the equation and it does the same thing. So then I removed the battery. Now, the phone has a tiny amount of equal play when pressing buttons on either side as it should be. When looking at the battery cavity, the cutout is positioned a little towards the menu button side of the phone and as a result, puts a little more weight toward that side. Since the phone is relatively light and the camera protrusion acts like a pivoting support when the phone is laying on a flat surface, I'm guessing the weight of the battery is causing the phone to sit crooked.

can confirm mine is the same but don't take that as a definite seeing as i dropped a 26 kilo weight onto mine so might just be that:laugh:

Yea it's getting to be a little annoying when I use the phone on a table. Whenever I hit the right side of the phone, it makes a *clack clack* sound hitting the table. My old S2 GT-I9100 seemed to have better build quality.
Did you know there is a plastic bridge that sticks out across the rear speaker mesh that is designed to stop the phone sitting down on the table surface so as to prevent the speaker being blocked?

Yea I noticed that, but in my case, taking off the back cover pretty much does the same thing. So I take it you have this same "problem" with the phone not sitting flat and wobbles when you press the right side of the screen?
No because I use a dual skin Case ie phone is not naked.

Heh sorry for making you realize a problem that you wouldn't have noticed had I not mentioned it. Yea it's as if the body is slightly tweaked or the camera assembly wasn't perfectly soldered to lie flat or something. Don't think it's completely the speaker hole bulge because it does the same thing with the back cover off too. With the battery out, it's better.
Normally I don't experience issues with my phones that I've seen online. Especially the whole "gapgate" Note 4 problem! But today I noticed my home button making a loud click noise when pressed. It was also a bit hard to push down. So I took a regular paper towel and put some alcohol on it. Just enough to make it damp. I then wiped the home button and around it. Then I used a can of air and blew over and around it. No more click and it's smooth as ever! Just thought I post this in case anyone else came across this issue. *Try at your own risk*
I did the same on the 2nd day of release having my note 4.. Had some juice on my hand from my son and wiped over the fingerprint and it got some between the button.. Alcohol seems to be the best for this as it dissipates leaving no liquid behind..

Strange, my home button never did this, though I've noticed some home buttons appearing recessed and some elevated above the display of the phone.
My home button won't sink in though it still register touches and fingerprint scanner works fine.
Unfortunately wiping the home button didn't correct it. I'm having it replaced under warranty.
Mine did the same for the first 2 months. Then it went away

It's not supposed to make a very audible click. Mine started doing it months after it purchased and it stopped a week shortly after. Very weird.

So if you guys have seen me around, I am one of the guys who was on the forum about Note 4 bezels and replacing them. I replaced my Note 4 (black) with a gold bezel and power/volume buttons. Which definitely was easy as heck to do. Anyways, the point I'm going to mention is this:
The power button is supposed to be clicky, but not like those found on iPhone or Samsung S6/S6E. As they said prior, you can place alcohol into that area and it will help that problem with a sticky button. What I presume is some of the adhesive that keeps the screen down on the main board (NOT REFERRING TO THE LCD ADHESIVE TO THE GLASS) gets in the way and makes it sticky. The adhesive is some weird mix between some silicone or whatever. It feels almost like tar, in terms when heated its stretchy but pretty stiff when back to normal temps.
As for the dropping of the home button, that is caused by the mUSB port not being pushed up enough by the bezel. Basically, the mUSB port is not applied enough upward pressure by the bezel to keep it sitting flush. What is interesting is that this can also constitute to something where the home button is mushy and doesn't click. Not in the sense of "sticky" but as the point of just no tactile feedback, such as a click feeling or sound.
As for the "gapgate" issue, I just placed some silicone in between the cracks, between the glass and the aluminum bezel, and pushed it in. Then grabbing a cloth and removing the excess while smoothing the stuff in the cracks by going in a single direction. Let the stuff dry and its golden. Remember to tape off the earpiece, mic holes, and other stuff.
If anyone needs some pics on what I said above, let me know and I'll try getting those in.

anybody trying this alcohol treatment to the home button, I strongly suggest you turn off the phone and take off the battery while doing so. before turning it back on, also make sure it's totally dried off. you can use a hair drier to make sure....

Thanks for this! Mine has always been that way. Painfully loud click. Like I broke something. Used an alcohol wipe (phone off) and I get a nice soft press now. Click is like my wife's Note 3 now. Much, much better.
I found the best solution... an app called " Swype Home". With a little swap from the home button to the screen acts like thehome button and goes
even more faster than clicking.. and it fixes the obsolescence of the button... works like a charm.

I'm trying to understand how the microusb port is blocking the button, is there any way you can explain it, and is it an easy fix? I just got a used note 4 and the home button doesn't click in.
Has anyone found a fully functional alternative stylus? The included Realpen feels like a $0.50 toy and does not include any buttons or an eraser tip. I've tried two alternative styli, a Toshiba tablet PC model and a Samsung Note stylus. These both work fine on the drawing pad, but do not work using the "Anypen" feature on the screen. Is there a stylus out there that works on the screen and drawing pad?
Also looking for an alternative. Only found some for the digitizer, not for the screen.

I actually went out of my way and bought the one he suggested which was Lenovo Tablet 10 4X80F22107. I purchased it on NewEgg for $107 CAD. (Might be cheaper in US)
I have been using the stylus for a year.
So far, I feel its a lot better than the Real Pen. It is a lot lighter and feels like a real pencil because it uses two times more in pressure sensitivity than the Real Pen. The stylus is not too big or heavy as I can be taking notes up to two hours. It comes with two side buttons, and an eraser button that I actually use as an eraser when I'm taking notes.
Only down side of it so far is the nib is made of plastic. I notice that the nib appears to be wearing out the more I use.
If you have some money to spare and want to feel more comfortable

The Note Pen have replaceable pointers, are they compatible with the yoga pen ?
the galaxy note pen is much smaller and also the pointer. I use it for write directly on the keyboard surface and when i write on paper I take the yoga pen, and so I don't have to change the pointer of the yoga pen. BTW the note 4 pen only writes on the keyboard surface, not on the display
