Flash is a dying breed anyways. Considering the fact that they have canceled development altogether for mobile devices I don't we will ever see an official ICS flash app.
i don't understand what's going to happen to movies in my local news site or reviews on engadget or the best dunks of the week on espn? those aren't disappearing overnight so i think we still need flash at least for a little bit.

It will be moved to HTML5 right before your very eyes.
It will happen what is already here for iOS. In flash for desktop and in an Apps for mobile device
Looks like i am not going to upgrade my devices to ICS anytime soon, i use a lot of flash sites.
Well, I know what I'm not installing until Flash is available, if it will be available.
It's already been responded to that flash support will be added for ICS. I'd guess before the first transformer has ICS probably...

Rome wasn`t built in a day......
ICS will have Flash Support by the end of the year.
Adobe has one last project up their sleeves before they bid mobile Flash adieu: an update that includes support for Ice Cream Sandwich.
Earlier reports mentioned that Google believed Flash support for Android 4.0 was forthcoming, but an Adobe representative has confirmed to Pocket-lint that Ice Cream Sandwich will indeed get Flash support by the end of 2011...
....After that update goes out though, mobile Flash will ride off into the sunset. Adobe made it clear in their announcement that the app would only see security updates and critical bugfixes going forward. With all that manpower freed up, Adobe plans to refocus their mobile efforts on AIR and HTML5, the latter of which they have called “the best solution for creating and deploying content in the browser across mobile platforms.”....

Is it just me, or has the tendency for people to erupt in anger and/or frustration with the first rumor become more prevalent? Seems like people don't have even 5 minutes worth of patience to find out the real story.
I mean, seriously: did anyone really think Google (or Adobe) would let ICS go out the door without Flash support? That they'd drop it JUST LIKE THAT? Come on, get real folks.

I regularly lurk over in apple forums and I don't recall ever seeing the kind of kneejerk reaction there that I see here. After all, apple is perfect. Even if someone starts a rumor that says apple plans to kill 30 million puppies in celebration of the 30 million ipads sold, people over there would still be like "ya, those puppies deserve it!"
Just an observation.

Apple did a good job selling it's next product, as usual. it announced a product and with it a firm release date in the very near future.
In contrast, Google screwed up the FroYo release as much as they possibly can. Google I/O announced FroYo on May 20th, with no firm date for release. That was just a few days short of three weeks ago.
Okay, so I am not worried about it to the point that I am ready to go all iPhone on your butts, I am just pointing out that Google has a lot to learn about rolling out a product.
They absolutely do.
Google is acting like a bunch of freaking amateurs.
I'm not the least bit interested in the iPhone, but I am jealous that they guys running Apple seem more professional and capable than do the folks running Google/Android.
It's embarrassing.

Honestly, I feel the same way. Google I/O was great, but it was all just fluff. We didn't get anything solid. Nothing. Google can take some lessons here about giving people something they can hold on too. "Few Weeks" is not enough. I think one of the main reasons that people aren't out in front of Google with pitch forks and torches is that they "leaked" a 2.2 early release so we have a taste of it and something to play with.
All in all, I agree with you 100%, Google has a lot to learn.
On the flip side -
Apple introduced iAds today like they were the greatest thing since sliced bread. Well, hold the phone (lousy pun intended - deal), those little banners consume data. No biggie data is unlimit- whoa wait. Not it's not. Not anymore on Apple's carrier of choice in the USA.
I don't care how little data those little banners use - to promote a system that not only allows their use but encourages it at the expense of a user locked into a tiered data plan is reprehensible. Does anyone else see an ethical problem with this?
Then there is the practical issue - a user is at the hairy edge of his allotment without buying more data - well except for those pesky little banners that put him over the top. Nice job, Steve Jobs, you butthole.
Likewise, I think any Android PAID app should have all ad banners removed. I know this is a common practice, but it should be a rule. No app with banners should be available at all without a paid counterpart without banners, IMO.
Well sure we don't have a solid release date yet... but we also get more updates then 1 per year. Think on the bright side. At least Froyo 2.2 is already out, if not officially. I don't understand your complaining. Android can already do what the iPhone is just not catching up to.
If our Androids ran on Apple time... we wouldn't see 2.2 until next January. Again, be happy you don't have to wait that long. Be lucky we get what we get. Plus 2.1 runs great anyway.

No, not complaining, stating some facts.
Apple = Solid release dates announced
Google = Vague mentions to releases that are coming "soon".
What should Google do? Follow the Apply model? Announce it 4 months ago, which is what Apple did, then wait until you release a new phone (which actually have hard dates) to launch the new OS... so if Google did this, we would be waiting until the Nexus2 to get FroYo. Sounds great guys! Not...

Simple facts...
Apple= Announcing new phone!
Google= Software update
Two different things. Google gave a firm date for the Nexus One.
And when has Apple ever given a firm date for a software update/bug fix? Oh, wait, they haven't... they have only ever given firm dates for new phone releases, and then said the exact same stuff Google has, that the new OS will be available shortly for other models.

I am just saying that Apple has their act together when it comes to product launches. Google does not. People had a much better understanding of what's coming and when with Apple's Keynote than they did at Google's. It left a lot less speculation and release anxiousness on the table. That makes for happier customers.
No doubt I'd rather be using the version of FroYo we are already looking at than iOS4. That wasn't my point.
Since Apple is now in the ad business (some vague 60% number thrown out there), why not get into the hardware business google?
HTC is a good manufacturer but lacks the innovation needed. Sony designs well but moves at a snails pace and makes horrible decisions.

I wouldn't be upset really. Tom Petty did say it best when he said "waiting is the hardest part". However if Froyo isn't finished, then we need to sit back and chill for a little while longer. I would be really mad if we get it (example) July 4th weekend and absolutely nothing has been added or changed.
Looks like we are all in wait and see mode..
Google needs to get it's act together on android. Microsoft is going to come after them, not apple not RIM. Microsoft and Google are aiming for OEMs and OEMs have already complained about google's way of releasing android updates.
I was shocked when Andy Rubin said that they don't have road-maps for version release. Google needs to look at Mozilla for their planning.

And if there are no consequences for screwing up, there's no reason to improve.
Of course, the real question is WHY they had a loss. I obviously think they've screwed up plenty of times - see the lack of Euro Xoom updates and locked bootloaders in phones - but it's hard to say how much effect those particular choices had. There are also lots of boring and simple reasons for a loss, like business restructuring or increased product costs.
Motorola was ahead of Apple http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ROKR_E1 but was never able to make an impact like Apple did. This shows a lack of vision and leadership. The Xoom again is light years ahead of the Ipad in my opinion in terms of HW, but still cannot shake the ipad in terms of market penetration. Last night I was watching the HP tablet add... the key point they made was ..oh we can play flash! sounds silly to us, but my friend (non-geek) was excited saying finally he can watch those foreign language movies on that website which use flash...
Xoom was priced at $600, it did not have a working micro SD solution but now other Android Tablets are coming I think it is kind of late.
For Android in general Motorola has and continues to be too slow releasing upgrades. In Canada in MAY !!! the upgrade to 3.1 !!! is coming soon !!!! it is August. Here is a clue, soon means tomorrow or even later in the week NOT MONTHS !!!! They get Canada 3.1, then so what the latest version is 3.2 it is such a thing that stops any sane person from buying Motorola.
For Android Phones MOTOblur nobody wants it but Motorola
We can't even get 3.2 on our 3g Xoom.....so when ICS comes out we are going to be the last to get it..but this is not just moto Verizon has their hands in that part. But I believe moto should push Verizon if not to just keep us happy but they dont
I think we, by that I mean the XDA and hardware enthusiast, only represent a fraction of Moto's or any other hardware developers sales. The average person probably doesn't realize they haven't received the 3.2 update much less that ICS is in the pike.
Yes I am sure they are aware of us and we are important to them but by no means are we the majority.
When the Xoom finally released Moto was already at work on the next device and the next beyond that.
They don't put much of their resources into supporting a device that has already sold. They want you to buy the next one. Unfortunately building relationships seems to be a thing of the past.
Just my two cents worth.

I may go that route myself, Samsung generally makes good products. Quality near Sony's without the megalomaniacal "make our own standards" in every package. It really sucks the patent crap between Apple and these devices. I'm really hoping that existing patent laws get annihilated soon, but considering politicians are all on the dole I don't see it happening.

I agree!!!
Asus has some hardware QA problems, but if you blame them for firmware updates, don't ever go near non-Nexus Samsung, non-Xoom Moto, or just any other android company out there! Asus firmware updates are the best by a mile. Even the Xoom had lousy updates up until ics.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium
Firmware updates... well, can't blame them, isn't Motorola owned by Google now or something?
Last I heard Google bought Motorola Mobility which is I believe their branch that makes their mobile devices like their Android devices. I assumed it was so they could release official Google Experience Devices instead of having Samsung make some of their devices (didn't Samsung make a Nexus for them?).
So it would technically get the update faster. Even though TF101 shipped with Honeycomb it came out later than Xoom, wasn't Xoom the first to Honeycomb also?
I don't see what separates the TF101 from the Xoom, is the TF101 not a Google Experience Device in reality or just by name/licensing? I don't see any major changes they made to the UI like Samsung did with TouchWiz. Do they also consider things in the backend? Maybe the bottom row buttons Asus changed was a problem? But really it seems like stock Honeycomb to me on the TF101 with no UI changes.

sorry, but i think my english is just not good enough to understand the meaning of this post and its relation to my comment...
but according to the part where you said you're here for updates on ics:
"buuuuhuuuhuhuuuuuuu, still no ics for the TF... WHY THE HELL? WHAT IS ASUS thinking??? buhuhuuhuuuu, i'm dying... buuhuhuhu"
should be pretty much as up to date as this thread is ^^

2 simple things to do:
1. get a xoom
2. stop annoying people with ur first world problems aka whining about a "delayed" update
seriously, another thread about this sh*t? how can some of you make such a big fuss out of ics? do you think yout tablet will make you coffee in the morning with ics? is it just to brag in front of your friends? or do you want to show the whole world that your benchark is now 100 points higher?
if you want to show who's the boss, in good ol' days we unzipped our pants and slammed it on the table ^^

it's hard to tell which threads contain useful information or updates when they are named like e.g. "Xoom beat the Transformer to ICS"
my heart goes out to the galaxy tab owners.......
can't believe how fickle some of you are considering how new ics is in tablet form.
will be interesting to see how many people complain about bugs when it does land and how many people moan that they dont like the new features. probably the same children that have thrown the toys out the pram about the wait........sorry how many days has it been now??
seriously.

Look at the pasting they are taking from their TF101, and prime owners!
I was reading that earlier. TF101 owners trashing them for not getting it, and Prime owners complaining about the bugs. lol
I would like to know who is allowing ASUS's marketing team to post that crap.
LOL. Bad question to be bringing up until after they release updates that fix the Prime and bring the TF101 into the ICS fold (hopefully stable).
That is some of the worst timing I've seen.
i come here once a day and hope to see a thread that says "ICS is RELEASED!".
L to the O to the L.
"What do you LOVE the most about Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich?"
could be a hint on the release date...

Two theories:
1.> Samsung hacked ASUS Facebook account and trolled a bunch of users.
2.> Some guy working in ASUS PR Department, ready to quit, on his last day decides to get even because someone stole his stapler.
Must admit I laughed at the irony of them asking us what we like most about it when alot of us don't know anything about it till we get it, I just sat there laughing as I added my own QQ to the end of the thing lol.
In future I think avoid ASUS, according to the aussie website for the TF101 its update-able to ICS and has been listed as that for about 2 months despite it not being true lol.
Was very pissed when I tried to hunter down how to patch it to ICS 2 months ago all because website says it can only to find out some idiot updated the product page months too early.
Wouldn't the ASUS site saying that when its not true be considered false advertising and/or bait and switch because the product you buy isn't update-able like the product info says?
yeh i had to chime in on that one...what a stupid question. But that would be cool if it were a Valentines day release (love) not likely tho they want to fix all the bugs that prime has get it stable and then release them together i bet
I don't trust Facebook/Twitter sources... theyre usually just somebody who does not know a damn about what they are saying.
As someone who waited 4 months for a GB update on my incredible from the first "expected" date... We will see it when we see it.
not that its a solid source - i had a chat with a sony rep regarding the tablet s and he has said that they are expecting ICS on their tablets by the end of Q1....... from his understanding from speaking to reps from Asus the mid February estimate is correct.
Ive spoken to the Asus rep in the past and hes pretty clueless so id never post up anything he tells me......... for example: he didnt know what ICS was - and when asked about the Prime just before it was released he had no idea what i was talking about Goomba
Facepalm for ASUS.
Maybe, just maybe, they will reconsider their approach to product releases and release date announcements. Let's face it, if they'd not released ICS for the prime before it had been properly tested, and if they hadn't promised ICS for TF101 before Christmas then they would have got the positive responses they were probably expecting.
They couldn't delay ICS for the Prime, because everybody was talking about the poor hardware design.
This problem starts earlier, when they rushed the Prime's hardware design to get it out on market first.
If they hadn't rushed the Prime, folks would've been a lot happier. Me included.

True but then on the flip side companys that are behind other companys in getting stuff out loose alot of customers and thats why they rush a junk one out the door asap cause it makes more monies which is the only reason company exists in the first place.

That only works for a certain amount of time, though. If you get a reputation for making bad products, people stop buying them altogether. I'm sorry, but taking a feature off the spec sheet because you found out it essentially doesn't work, but you don't want to put an investment into fixing it--and it could be fixed, for sure, the question is the expense--is the definition of making a bad product.
I'm curious, did anybody get a full refund (including sales tax, return shipping costs, etc.) from Asus for their GPS not working? They may have done, which would at least slightly mitigate the issue, but I've not actually seen any reports of that.

I'd like to know how the people writing for asus don't end up committing suicide after all the rude people yelling at them (about something they have no control over)
I am guessing that ICS will be released the 18th at 12:03:57 PM
Anyone that wants to make another guess?
