You have to install the OC Kernel by ardatdat here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=897877
Or you install Urukdroid (our only rom) with the OC-Kernel (i think this would be the better option)
What do you want?
I could give you instructions
Well from what I have read I could go upto about 1.2 Ghz to give it a little more zip. Is the rom any good?. Would probably go for the kernel. Ideas?

The rom is very good
but when you just want the kernel..
first: what firmware version do you have?
Now you say the roms good maybe I should give it a go. How much of an improvement is it?

Much
You have EXT4, that makes everything a little faster, you have root (Chainfire for HD games...) and such stuff, you can overclock, and with the libq modifacted kernel from sibere you have a real speed boost
i would try it
Ok will give it a go can you point me at a noob proof tut. Would really like to give it some extra speed.

Here i haved copied the installation instructions for you:
Code:
Step one
Assuming you have already installed SDE from Archos:
Download and extract installation files from archive UrukDroid_1.0-EasyInstall.rar. Inside you should find three files: initramfs.cpio.gz, zImage and UrukDroid-install.tgz
Flash initramfs.cpio.gz and zImage from SDE boot menu:
power on (2) Archos device, hold up/+ volume key (1) until you see "Archos AXXXX - Boot Menu",
choose with Volume +/- (1) "Recovery System"->"Developer Edition Menu"->"Flash Kernel and Initramfs",
connect Archos to PC (5) and copy zImage and initramfs.cpio.gz
press power button (2) shortly, you should see Archos flashing new kernel
if flashed properly, press power button (2) shortly to reboot...
Boot to SDE:
power on (2) Archos, hold up/+ volume key (1) until you see "Archos AXXXX - Boot Menu",
choose "Developer edition"
You should see "UrukDroid 1.0 Installation framework" title. Please choose simple install method. When asked to, connect Archos to PC (5) once again and copy UrukDroid-install.tgz, disconnect Archos from PC properly (umount, safely remove device etc.) and press power button (2) shortly. Now EI will check installation file and prepare it for next step.
Later, you will be also able to choose whether you want to copy /data partition. It's recommended not to - but you have this option. For advanced install method - look below.
After reboot you should see UrukDroid 1.0 boot up screen (if it happens to boot to stock OS, reboot once again and go to "Boot menu", choose "Developer edition").
You should see some progress information on bottom of the screen. For few minutes you will see installation message with progress bar. Few minutes later, after some postinstallation procedures you should see UrukDroid boot animation and shortly after Archos setup wizard.
If with first run "Archos configuration wizard" creates "Force close" errors, please reboot device (hold power button shortly for more than 1 second, this will bring "Power menu" and press power button long until "Reboot" message will appear).
Congratulations! you have just installed UrukDroid
Here is a video how-to:
Thanks, will give it a try later and will post back to let you know how I get on.

Are you sure you downloaded the correct files? You want to use Urukdroid 1.0, not 0.7. The link is here: http://sauron.pourix.com/UrukDroid/UrukDroid-1.0/UrukDroid_1.0-Install.rar
The install instructions are here: http://code.google.com/p/urukdroid/wiki/Installation
It shouldn't take more than fifteen minutes from the point of having the SDE installed, to having Uruk fully running.
Well your probably right, don't think I started with 1.0 . I started with the easy installer but I think it was 0.5. Do you think this is the problem?. Will give it another try later with 1.0, is your link to the easy installer version?.

You said it was an A101, right? It should work fine. What method are you using to install? Easy or Advanced? Do you have an SDcard in the slot? When you tried with 1.0, what was your exact procedure. In other words, more details please...
Could you tell me how to OC 1.2 with Uruk 1.0 ?
Hi,
I'm new here and new with Android too . I'm a PC guy. I've had Urukroid 1.0 installed in my Archos now (in internal). I'd like OC to 1.2 GHz but I don't know how to do it with OC kernel by ardatdat. Can you show me? Thanks!

The ardatdat kernel is not compatible with Uruk, that's why he said either/or. As of a couple days ago though, there is a new alpha OC kernel for Uruk: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1017593/ArchosGEN8/UrukDroid-1.1/UrukDroid-1.1RC1-kernelOC.tbz2

Nook Color Mac Issue

Trying to root nook color using directions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358051
I download the apk file and it comes up with the blocked dialog. I must be completely stupid because after running apk, it tells me to press "setup" and their is no "setup" available. I tried as well going to setup through N button->setup but the things mentioned in instructions are not there.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Probably because that's for the Nook.

This is the 2.3.2 MIUI ROM
Everything in this ROM is working well, there aren't FC and the screenshots finally are working!
To have the Market working, you have to flash through CWM the latest version of the Google Apps, then, if the market isn't there, you have to manually install it
So, now enjoy your FULL WORKING MIUI ROM!
Thanks to sewa2k and akalos for the help

Hi, the screenshots are working well (it's also written in the first post =)), i haven't had any type of FC or bug, some applications are in chinese caracters, i don't know how to see if logcat works... The ROM is really fast and smooth, it seems that everything is working well
Hi, just a confirm Screenshot works also for me in 1.12.16 with terminal emulator or root explorer script, but not from notification bar (not a big problem) just weating for your review:
- about logcat just write logcat inside terminal emulator and press enter
- power buttom give 4 way reboot (normal-hot boot-bootloader-recovery)?
- what applications in chinese? (in 1.12.16 no one in chinese and it's very important for me)
- from maps, compass streetview works?
I'm testing 1.12.16 and all working fine inside this beatiful rom (no limits fps, root, busybox, sms, missing call, compass running street view, good sound)

In the SMS app all is in english, but in the favorites and recommended the phrases are in chinese (it's not so important, these are the predetermined phrases) and holding home the app manager/app killer is in chinese, but if you know that the botton to the left is the app killer and the botton to the right is the app manager you won't have problems
When you first install the rom there are 2 superuser, but when you tap on one, it opens and after a reboot there is only one and it works without problems =)

I updated from the official 512 using CWM 5.0.2.7, try this, maybe it works =)
I reinstalled it manually formatting system and it worked! I'm very impressed with this ROM, so far everything is working well and as always Miui is very elegant . I only have to test consumption, the previous ROM managed to suck only 3%/hour with 3G always on, let's see
Btw does anyone know what the Chinese apps do?? There are only 3 apps that have remained in Chinese but I don't know if I can safely remove them. One seems a clock, one a network traffic meter and one I absolutely don't know.
A last thing: the search button isn't seen as it should but it opens the camera instead. Not a big problem, but do you know if it's possible to change its behaviour?
Thanks a lot for having taken us this ROM, is a very nice addendum for the U8800pro!

[Q] No option to install NTGApps after root?!?

Hi,
Just purchased a Nook Touch Glow w/ software version 1.2.1 installed. Went through the rooting process twice, just to be sure I did everything correctly...
Problem:
-- NT is rooted OK, and "Nook Manager Main Menu" shows "More->" option...
-- Selecting "More", however, does not allow me to install the NTGAppsAttack packet, as it is supposed to (according to the instructions).
I am using the same versions (0.5.0) of NookManager and NTGAppsAttack.
The NTGAppsAttack package sits on root of the SD Card (which has NookManager on it); both unzipped (in Folder), and as .zip - just in case.
Only options in "Extras" menu are "About NMgr", "Back", and "B&N Apps"... and nothing else.
-- Any idea why I don't get an option to install GApps?? --
Thanks...
Thread moved to General as there is no Q&A section for this device.
[SOLVED] No option to install NTGApps after root?!?
**Solved!**
As much as I like all the great xda brains posting their hacks and mods, the installation instructions could -sometimes- be a tad more precise... :cyclops:
In the end, I am very grateful for everything posted here, of course... including the cardiac arrests I experience on the way to the finish line
Thanks to STRAYGECKO for responding to the post of another guy (eventually right above my issue in the "General" section), I was pointed to a post in the "NookManager" thread... and following that one also solved my problem.
==> This post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41174407&postcount=52
Solution:
Copy the entire "Custom" folder -as extracted from "NTGAppsAttack"- on the NookManager SD Card (on root level)... basically overwriting the existing "custom" folder, incl. all sub folders.
Now, when you boot up with the NookManager SD Card in your NTG, you will have the "More" option, including "Install NTGApps" in the next step (="custom")... - BINGO!
Another thing that's really confusing:
When you are asked to install "SearchMarket" from the Play store, don't try to do it on your NTG. Do it from your PC and have it install remotely under "Phone".
Unfortunately, doing this right on your NTG almost works, too, and the app not installing in quite some time drove me nuts... -- Oh, well. I survived... and so will you

can't re-register: help please
I followed the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1675706 and successfully rooted and installed android on my new NST Glowlight. Sadly, I didn't take a back-up image of the device before rooting.
After I got it working I decided I would like to use my main Google account rather than the alternate one I had used, both for Barnes and Noble and for Android on the device. I thought that I could delete my account from the device and start again, so I used the trick of resetting the device by holding down the lower left and right page turn keys for 30 seconds then choosing to reset to factory settings.
Since doing this, every time I attempt to re-register with Barnes & Noble it tells me "ERROR Sorry we're having trouble setting up your Nook, please shut down your device and try again". I have tried using Clockwork Recovery to wipe all the partitions it can access. I went to the Barnes & Nobles site to see if I had a device registered and although I have an account there with the Gmail address I used it says there is no device registered, so I can't "de-register" from there.
I tried the hold down the power button for 15 seconds after the screen flashes black and repeat six times, and nothing doing there.
Suggestions appreciated. Thanks!
@dc72,
Well, you have a couple of options here.
First, if you don't absolutely need to have B&N on your Nook, you can bypass the sign-in step by holding the top-right hard button and sliding your finger right-to-left across the top of the screen at the "Welcome to Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight" screen, pressing "Factory", holding the top-right hard button and tapping the bottom-right corner of the screen at the "Factory" screen, and tapping "Skip Oobe".
Second, if you do need B&N, try using the NookManager "Restore factory.zip" feature to factory-image-wipe your Nook.
:good:
Thank you!
Brilliant! The first procedure got me in to the ereader. So I know I can reinstall android now and bypass B&N.
Ideally I would like to have it as it was out the box again though. I don't have a back-up image as yet and because my device is now rooted I was not sure that NookManager would be able to create a clean one.
I don't want to mess things up any further than I have, so can you confirm that in my particular scenario, on the rooted NST Glowlight, I can create and restore a Factory.zip?
I was under the impression that since I have rooted I can no longer create a factory image. I will await your investigation and response before meddling further. Thank you!
EDIT: Actually I'm sure you have already thought of all that, so I'm going to trust you and go ahead with your suggestion to use Nookmanager. I'm sure it will work exactly as described! Thank you so much!
EDIT 2: I don't actually need B&N at all and would kind of rather not have them pushing books at me I have no interest in etc, so thank you greatly for the method to bypass that! Can you tell me will I be able to install 1337 rom from this thread now with my NST Glowlight in it's current state? I'm a bit reluctant to install CWM over the top of the existing recovery system so would try it from the micro SD I think.

@dc72,
Glad my suggestions helped!
One thing you need to understand, though - factory.zip is not something that can be created or modified. Factory.zip is the original factory image that your device came with out-of-the-box.
Backups are the things that can be created and restored. You can create a backup absolutely any time, even if your device is rooted. In fact, creating a backup when you first root is a great idea, because if something messes up in the future, you can restore the backup that's already rooted, and you won't have to go through the rooting process all over again.
EDIT - Yes, you most certainly can install 1337 ROM over your current rooted state. You will need to just follow the installation instructions to the letter, and then you'll be good to go.
So to install 1337 I have to install CWR to the actual Nook? Considering that with your help the standard recovery has pulled me out a hole I'm not sure I want to loose that at this point.
Can 1337 be installed using CWR from SD, what is the reason it's advised to install it to the Nook directly, and can the NST Glowlight still be reset to factory the way you directed me earlier after following the current 1337 install instructions?
Much appreciate your help and instruction!

It doesn't matter whether or not CWM is installed on your NST - you just need to be able to boot into it, which, of course, can be done by simply writing the image to the sdcard, turning off the Nook, plugging the sdcard into the Nook, and turning the Nook back on. Installation is recommended, but optional.
The Nook can be factory-image-reset using the NookManager method whether or not CWM is installed as the default recovery. FYI, I personally also have an NST GlowLight, and I have had CWM installed on it for many months. It's much better than the stock recovery.
You're a star! I will take your advice and go for the 1337 install with CWM installed on the Nook. I also have a Kobo touch with android installed on it, and really like the interface they have used. It works really well! I got the NST Glow for the light and the text looked clearer in the shop... Looking forward to trying the 1337 upgrade! Big thanks!
I just purchased nook glowlight new.
I cannot find what version it is (is not listed in the box).
B&N online also keeps the version number obscure.
Can't find out how to find the version in the settings.
It has the white frame. have some questions prior to my giving up and returning.
.1. How do I find out what the model number is?
(assume it is the BNRV500 but am not sure).
2. most of the memory I find out after purchased is reserved for B&N downloads (2 gb) so there is only .5 gb for my own personal supply.
If I cannot root to unlock the 2 gb, I will likely return the thing. Can I unlock the memory via rooting, or is there another way to do this?
3. How do I root the thing (if it will unlock the memory).
Thanks
11,000th post in the Nook Touch General forum!
@leiko49,
Answers to your questions in red.
I just purchased nook glowlight new. Good choice!
I cannot find what version it is (is not listed in the box). If you mean the software version, it's 1.3.1.
1. How do I find out what the model number is?
(assume it is the BNRV500 but am not sure). I have an idea, but I don't know for sure. Can you tell me if there's a Device Info page and/or an About Your NOOK page?
2. Can I unlock the memory via rooting, or is there another way to do this? I think this has been achieved before, but I'm not 100% sure. If so, it's probably beyond my level. Search these forums a bit.
3. How do I unroot the thing (if it will unlock the memory)? Unrooting can be achieved by a simple factory reset.
Thanks
unlocking memory
I have the BNRV500
Will rooting this unlock the memory?
Thanks!
Is it possible to use the current screen as the sleep wallpaper? As in, instead of displaying a wallpaper when the Nook automatically goes to sleep, simply show the last static image on the device. For example, you're reading a book and you put the book down for a few hours. When you come back the last page is still on the screen, but the nook is asleep. You don't have to wake it up to finish reading the page/map/flashcard etc. One of the primary benefits of e-ink is that you can have static images displayed indefinitely without additional battery drain, it would be nice to take advantage of this instead of just using it to display standard wallpapers.
@leiko49, no, rooting your Nook Glow will not free up any memory - rather, it will take up more!

This can be achieved in two ways (thanks, @nivieru!):
• This app, which takes a screenshot every 01:50 and uses it as the screensaver; or
• Editing /system/framework/services.jar to not use the screensaver when the Nook sleeps, which is discussed here.

Hi jun, there are two ways to achieve this,
the first is with this app, that takes a screenshot every 110 seconds and makes it the screensaver.
the second is by making the screensaver invisible, which is a bit more complicated than installing an app. It is detailed in this thread

Hi there, First, nice job creating this useful thread. :good: I'll thank and like in a min...This is not my device and I'm trying to help someone out. My question to clarify, if I may:
Since simple factory reset unroots, by using the factory.zip Restore via Nook Manager, am I all set for a warranty claim? She had a custom launcher on here, with Kindle reader and other apps, obviously superuser in there, etc. I went through factory.zip via Nook Manager, and the device is reset. Like, "Hi, welcome to Nook. Press this button to begin tutorial..."
Since this device isn't familiar to me, I have to ask if I'm missing something. On some devices there's more to do, things to "re-lock" and all that. Using factory.zip, has the superuser app been wiped, and anything else that indicates tampering is removed... so this should be all set for warranty return? Thanks in advance. :highfive:
Edit: @thenookieforlife3 - I just noticed that your goal is to join the RC team. Good effort!

Great to have an RC in here!
First of all, thanks for the nod - I do try to help everybody I can with this device, as it's my specialty.
To answer your question, if you execute the "Restore factory.zip" NookManager feature, it very literally doesn't just wipe the device - it restores the entire device to the image it came with from the factory, hence "factory.zip". Since, of course, when it came off the assembly line, the Nook had no Superuser or root mods of any kind, the Nook is 100% back to regular, and is all set for a warranty claim.
On the subject of the warranty claim, however… I just hope B&N is still accepting NST devices. They stopped selling them a while back. Just keep this in mind so that you're not too disappointed when/if the lady at the help desk says "Oh, I'm sorry, but we don't accept Nook Touches anymore."
Hope this helps!
EDIT - @erikalin, thank you for the RC encouragement. :good:

Thanks for confirming. Yeah, I talked with the girl at the desk of the local B&N by phone re: warranty claim. It's all set - they just need to get it in hand, thus the restore. Since I don't know this system at all, just wanted to see that I wasn't overlooking anything. Good luck XDA-ing. :highfive:
Unfortunately the ONLY way to get a NST with/without glolight from B&N is through warranty exchange, when I did it a few months back I received one in a sealed certified pre owned box that appeared brand new without a single mark on it and the second one was in fact a sealed brand new device.
