Phone Cannot Read Any SD card - EVO 4G General

Hello
I have been running CM7.1 for the past few days without any problem except missing Wimax keys. This morning I decided to restore an old froyo sense nandroid backup to see whether 4G would work in that. I restored this clockwordmod backup using the RA_Supersonic recovery.
After the recovery completed the restore, my phone entered a boot loop only making it as far as the "4G" splash screen.
I wanted to try the restore again in the recovery, but it then could not mount my SD card. USB-MS from recovery was also not working so I could not connect to the card from my computer.
I did a "clear storage" from Hboot. Now, my phone actually makes it into the OS and I can do things in the OS, but only for about 1-2 mins before the next boot loop. Thus, during each boot loop, I have about 2 mins in the OS to try whatever I can.
When in the OS, file explorers like Astro cannot read my SD card anymore (the error says something like "cannot create cache"). The SD storage option in the settings menu also says the SD card is unavailable.
When I connect the phone to my computer, nothing happens, no option appears to set as mass storage.
ROM Manager cannot load the newest clockworkmod recovery because it needs an SD card to run.
I have tried another 2GB SD card, same thing happens.
I have tried to format the 8GB SD card using 1-pass zeros, still doesn't work in the phone.
Both of these cards work on my computer with a card reader.
Do any of you have any suggestions for me?
I'm not sure what else to try.
Thank you.

Thank you very much, this worked for me!
I had to download all the adb and fastboot files to be able to fix my SD card.
My USB was also not working from the OS, and even though my SD was fixed, I was still in a boot loop so I could not use terminal emulator to fix my USB - until I flashed a Mik rom which was more stable. CM 7.1 was not stable for me, it was also boot looping. I then accessed the terminal emulator from the Mik rom and fixed my USB.
teh roxxorz, if you feel like it and have got some time to kill, could you explain what the original problems were with my SD card and USB, and how I fixed them? For educational purposes...

4G not working even after restore to old backup
Now back to my original issue that started all this messing around... 4G not working.
I've now used clockwork to restore to some old clockwork backups I have, stock froyo from January, stock gingerbread from July.
In clockwork, I first restore the backup, then I go to advanced restore, and choose to restore the wimax.
4G is still not working: Scanning > Connecting to Sprint > Scanning > Connecting to Sprint > Disconnected.
In "about phone", the 4G mac address is not shown.
Wimax Key Checker says my EVO RSA key is present.
Any suggestions for this one?
Thanks in advance.

Nandroid restore left other stuff around? (No ADB, No SD) [SOLVED]

Hi all,
I think I've managed to partially brick my phone, the bizarre thing is that it still mostly works, but I've lost PC connectivity, Wi-Fi and the SD card!
Had my Hero (on Orange UK, standard Orange ROMs) for a while, so thought it about time to play with rooting it and trying some new ROMs out.
Installed Amon-Ra's recovery image (v1.5.2), did a nandroid backup, copied everything obvious off the SD card to my PC (usual precautions).
1. Installed Amon-Ra recovery 1.6.2 - all ok
2. re-flashed with the rooted "stock" HTC image 2.73.405.66, and latest radio (JU6.35.09.26) - all looked ok for a few days
3. decided to try out one of the android 2.1 roms (BeHero) - that got stuck on the boot logo for about 50 mins, so figured that wasn't working.
So tried re-flashing the 2.74.305.66 as that was still on the SD card. That kept re-booting, so I gave up and restored my nandroid backup.
Then things really went wierd!
1. On boot-up I get a notification that the SD card has been removed, even though it is there. Will try to get a clean one, and re-format on the PC, but I'm guessing the partition table has been corrupted?
2. Wi-Fi doesn't work - it just says "Can't start Wi-Fi"
3. If I look in the ROM settings, I'm clearly using the rooted 2.73.405.66 and latest radio! My nandroid backup should have been the default Orange ROM and old radio, and I've definitely went back to that in terms of apps, setttings, etc... Not sure how I still have the new ROM!
4. No PC connectivity (this is a bummer), when I plugin I get "USB device not recognized" on the PC, and the phone claims it is "charging (AC)", I don't get the usual notifications about USB mounting or syncing. So ADB/fastoot don't see it. Not sure if this is related to the SD issue, or the ROM version (maybe I've got a mis-match somewhere)
Other than that, the phone works fine, I can sync with google, internet (though that is a bit flaky), and download apps. Battery life seems to be down to 1 day though, so maybe I still have some android 2.1 stuff lurking around.
Without an SD, I can't download any ROMs though, and without a PC connection, I can't use nandroid or try to debug it that way... Guess I'm stuck?
Anyway, just curious if anyone had any suggestions.
Cheers.
Dan
did you do a wipe before you restored the nandroid restore? if not then thats the problem, always do a data wipe before restoring nandroid backups
have you tried reflashing the radio? also try to wipe after restoring the nandroid, just in case.
edit: valid point about wiping BEFORE flashing. what i meant is that if that doesn't work, try to wipe after restoring as well and see if it boots then.
cheers, no I didn't do a wipe as I figured the nandroid restore was the whole of the ROM, so it would overwrite everything.
Done a wipe now but still no joy. Can't reflash anything without SD or PC access...
Still confused as to why the restore has clearly left a newer ROM in place...
can't you just enter recovery do a wipe and then re flash the rom. recovery should have access to the sd card regardless of what state the rom is in.
I thought you should have tried it, but on a second read, did you try mounting the SD card through recovery?
Hi,
I just tried that again, and even the recovery tool can't mount the SD card, I have re-formatted it and have a clean 2Gb one as well, neither can be seen from the recovery partition.
Looks like I've managed to get it in some really bizare state, my gf says I should have left it alone, don't think I'm ever going to live this down

Have you tried powering up WITHOUT the sd in, then once it is fully loaded, insert ur SD and see if it picks anything up.
just tried that, no joy...
the loss of PC comms is confusing me too, even in recovery mode... might have to claim I dropped it and send it back to orange!
Eventually managed to sort this out, the phone had gone into some strange testing mode, that disabled the uart (USB) and the sdcard.
Found a really useful post on Modaco's forums, search for "No ADB & No SD", look for post #81.
Turned out I had to use fastboot oem enableqxdm 0 to turn on the SD card (at which point WiFi magically started working again!), then reflash the SPL (scary!) which allowed the mystical command "fastboot oem eraseconfig" that also re-enabled the UART and USB connectivity was restored!
As a bonus, I now have SPL 1.76.2007 which has the fastboot holes in, and allows me to remote boot a recovery image. Previously I had 1.76.007 which was locked against that (so had to reflash recovery).
Just goes to show there is almost always a way back!
Excellent,... I this may just help out others.
Do us a favour though pal,... press edit on your 1st post, to change your thread title. Maybe "Nandroid restore left other stuff around?... No ADB, No SD,...... [SOLVED]

Corrupted SD Card Investigation

Hey guys,
With my SD card corrupted, If i put my 16GB microSD card in and flash I9000UGJG8 the phone boots, without any SD cards showing up, now here is what I am thinking.
1. Instead of flashing the stock I9000UGJG8, I am going to try a pre-rooted complete rom (2.1) using ODIN. Know of any?
2. Once I get the phone up and running with a pre-rooted Rom, repartition using linux / terminal / adb.
I need help doing the above as I am not an advanced linux users, anyone with this kind of knowledge willing to help me, perhaps we can help a lot of members in the community who have this issue.
yes, I know, I know all this has a chance provided it is not a hardware issue. I suspect its a software issue.
Ok Step one is done, heres how I did it.
1. Flash I9000UGJG8 using odin, before restart pull out EX SD manual copy Clockwork Recovery rename to update.zip also copy Tayutam's rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=774950#)
2. Insert SD card into phone and boot to recovery, choose apply update.zip, phone boots to recover 2e again, select apply update.zip and you boot to CWM.
3. While in CWM choose apply .zip form sd and select Tayutam's.
4. Now I have booted into a rom with root.
Now to figure out step 2 help, please
I found this - http://androidandme.com/2009/08/news/how-to-manually-partition-your-sd-card-for-android-apps2sd/
My friend has this problem and coudnt return the phone because he lost the receipt.
Just to check - you have /data but not /sdcard ? In this case, it can't be corrupt, it simply isn't formatted. This is easy to fix using parted.static binary.
This is only if you have a /data but not a /sdcard.
yes that is correct,
I have /data.
Can you help me format the /sdcard?

Just flash any good ROM via ODIN or Kies. It will be back. You might lose the data, I am not sure.

Hers's how I do.
When I have a costom ROM installed, want THIS ROM, I put my phone into download mode, fire up Odin, select 512 pit, select reparation.
Just as its restarting, pull battery, again put into download & flash your ROM thru Odin, here no pit no repartition your pda, modem, csc, & you are thru
Hope it helps.
Is this the same issue when the phone still boots but gives the error message saying " Internal SD card Damage, Format required" ??
I had situation like most where phone would power off after the initial logo.
Now, I had a 8GB external microSD card which I used with the phone from the beginning ad added storage but have been removed since phone not booting up.
When I for whatever reason decided to put back the external microSD card in hope that maybe I can put the ROM file in there to flash to different ROM or something but I couldn't because in recovery mode, either internal or external sdcard would not mount.
But! when the external microSD card plugged in, I was able to fully boot the phone into the OS. (I tried both JG8 & JH2). But once it was booted into the OS, I would get a message in notification bar saying something about 'can not mount internal sdcard' or something, plus can't mount external sdcard either.
So the phone was working (to a limit) other than anything else that required sdcard storage.
I mean, I tried repartitioning from Odin and such and there was no difference. Same result.
Oh by the way, without the external microSD card, I was not able to do 3-button combo to get in to Recovery Mode but I could get in to Download Mode.
Only way to get in to Recovery Mode was to insert the external microSD card.
So at least you can fully boot into the OS. Mine does boot but I get a black screen. Right after the flash completes on first reboot, as soon as it hits the recovery menu, it fails to copy factory data over to the internal SD card and complains about not being able to mount the internal SD card. This seems to be a common problem to the non-international versions of the I9000 (specifically I9000M)?
Thanks ragin I will give you method a try and see what happens.
My friend's still does not work. Repartition or not, tried so many roms, still boots up but after the blank logo, it is just completely blank screen but the back button or menu button are lit when pressed. Even with an external microcard in, it still wont boot. I think the internal memory card is corrupted as indicated on the recovery mode
It says
E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
(No such file or directory)
E:copy_dbdate_media: Cant't mount SDCARD:
copy default media content failed
That is the error that comes up right after flashing the phone with any ROM that are known good. And when reboot now is selected, it just shows blank screen right after the samsung logo shows up
That is the infamous internal sdcard corruption that quite a few Bell users are experiencing (see the thread in the general section). I had it once - I repartitioned and recovered; the next time it happened there was no way of fixing it. Tried many ROMS, repartitioning etc. I sent it in to Bell and they had to replace the motherboard.
I really hope there is a software/firmware fix but I don't have high hopes... good luck.

in windows/linux when you have a drive that does not have a drive letter or is courupted you go into fdisk/gpart and fix it, why cant we do that in Android.
Flash drives dont just get corrupted where it is unfixible, I could see loosing the data but a low level partition and/format should be able to fix it.
Just my 2 cents
so no progress? i flashed Doc's JK3 rom, and my phone died within 2 days of flashing it.
i guess i'm going to read up on fdisk and gpart, and see if i can get something going.

Strange Brick?

N.B. I have S-Off (but not full radio), an overclocking module loaded and clockwork recovery.
My phone has been working absolutely fine the last few days overclocked to 1.3. Today I downloaded megajump (a game) and played it for a bit before the screen went blank, so I did a battery pull reset. Since then I have been unable to boot fully, it makes the HTC sound and gets stuck at the HTC screen.
Occasionally when I reboot it it starts up clockwork recovery but I'm not sure what to do with this and how to initiate this recovery stage to start with.
I know the answers to this problem are in the forum somewhere but I'm struggling to find where to start. It seems an odd issue as it has been working fine (including switching on and off etc).
N.B. Shortly before this problem I updated ROM manager from the market
Thanks in advance

Hook your phone up to the comp with it powered off, type in "adb logcat" into your computer's Terminal, and display the results.

Ok so once it boots into Clockwork recovery you have a couple of options, first did you ever make a back up of any of your roms? If yes , scroll down to backup and restore and select it, next choose Restore, It will give you a list of any roms you have backup before, choose one and it will restore to one of those backup roms, option two if you have a complete rom zip file on your sd card you can choose install zip from SD card, choose zip from SD card, apply and your good, if you dont have a rom zip on your SDcard you can put one there by selecting mounts and storage in Clockwork recovery, Mount USB storage, and put a rom on the root of you SDcard, then go back and run my option two that I just gave you, If for some reason you cant mount the sdcard, shut the phone down, remove the sdcard, use a card reader to install a zip to the root of the sdcard and then follow option two.
Remember before you flash anything wipe data/ and cache.
Panic over, having reset it numerous times and left it for well over 30 mins, it has now managed to load up properly.
Very strange!

Phone ate my SD Card

So, i've been running CM7 for a few days and i noticed some issues with sprint coverage in my area so i decided to restore my sense rom backup i made before flashing CM7 to see if updating my PRL would do anything (doesn't hurt to check right?)
i restore the backup and boot the rom (MikMik Sense 2.1 3.0 hybrid 2.45) and it doesn't boot properly (loads walpaper and notification bar but no unlock ring) i reboot it once and no luck.
so i reboot into recovery and mount USB mass storage to copy a fresh sense rom on to my SD card and my windows 7 box pops up and says the SD card contains errors (like after a dirty disconnect) and all my stuff is gone except a folder for recovery (TWRP)
lot of my stuff was backed up except for a few pictures from yesterday and all my texts. (using SMS Backup)
i don't THINK the SD card is bad, this is the second time my phone has done this (two different cards)
i'm running a tool to try to recover data from the card then i'm gonna test the snot out of it and see if it's bad or not.
i know i know i should backup all the time, luckily it was only a few days worth of stuff that i lost (and all my Nandroid backups) just the point that my phone ate my SD card.
needed to vent. *puts the hammer away before something gets broken*
Edit: one thing i should mention, recovery took a LOOOONG time (25 or 30 minutes) to create / verify md5 when i backup my CM7 install using nandroid (using TWRP 1.0.3)
I have a similar problem with my wife epic phone. So I try to restore back to stock but then it brick. So I had no choice to send it in for repair and they successful restore it back to stock. The best thing to do is restore back stock completely when everything else fails.

I've had this happen to me twice while on synergy. What worked for me was to pop my sd card into a sd adapter and then a sd card reader and then back up all my info to my pc. Then a simple format of the sd card which will erase everything. Then put all your stuff back onto your sd card. If you were partitioned then run the band, once completed while still in recovery you'll have to repartition. Then reboot and you should be good to go.
All this with amon ra v2.3
Hope this helps.

Cannot get back to OS.

So yesterday I rooted my Atrix and loaded CM7 on there. Everything was going fine. I then started seeing errors saying that my SD was unmounted or not found while in the OS. I tried looking it up and all I could find was that I should try formatting so I wiped everything off it, didn't work. So now I went into ClockworkMod recovery to reset to factory and now it's not booting up to the OS at all. It just sticks at the logo screen where it says "Unlocked". I am able to get back to recovery screen but that's it. I can't access the SD card at all because it's empty and it can't find it.
Anyone have any ideas as to how to fix this?
Reinstall CM7. you can enable USB mode from recovery, just copy the CM7 zip back on from your computer, and you should be good to go.

Did you wipe the internal or external?
If I were you I would do a complete fastboot wipe and flash another ROM. That way you eliminate a bunch of possible problems.
When I try to mount USB storage, it says "Unable to write to ums lunfile (No such file or directory)"
Also, I wiped the internal one. I don't have an external SD. And how do I do a fastboot wipe?
Do you think it might work if I got an external SD card and put the files on there? Then try to flash CM7 from it?
