list your apn settings, ill tell you where you've gone wrong. i'm on prepay and it's working very well.
Thanks. If you can help I'm grateful eternally lol.
Thing is it WAS working then just stopped a few days ago!
Don't get it.
Was working on the Broadband settings..just Broadband name and broadband apn...that's it.
Anyway.I'm using the conventional apns now:
Name: AT&T APN: wap.cingular Proxy: leave blank Port: leave blank Username:[email protected] Passwordi dont have one)CINGULAR1 Server: leave blank MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com MMS Proxy: wireless.cingular.com MMS Port: 80 MCC:310 MNC:410 (note. this could also be 310, 41 or 15) APN Type internet and mms
You need to put wireless.cingular.com under the first proxy and change the mms proxy to 66.209.11.32. Everything else is fine.
Leave the username, password and mms port blank. that worked best for me. what that guy above wrote doesn't work, i've tried it; he might be talking about post paid.

You'll get the same speeds with straight talk and AT&T since straight talk uses AT&T network. It just comes down to how congested you're network is.

Is activating the sim ON a dumbphone necescary if we are using custome apn/settings?
Ive never done this but, isnt it more likely to be flagged if ANYTHING is different from activation phone to GNOTE?
I want to just buy a SIM from ATT claiming I have a GOPHONE ? and that would require ?"medianet" will that work?
AND obviously if this fails I buy a Straight Talk phone with SIM?
You will definitely need to activate that sim in a dumb phone or they will catch it right there.

well ive been a user of the 5.99 t-zones deal for a while. I used to use it with my tilt with no problem as well as other phones. But i seem to be running into a brick wall with the g1. No matter what i put in as the apn settings it sends me to the "you must upgrade to the g1 plan."
One of the weird things is that anytime i do this:
Name: T-Mobile US
APN: wap.voicestream.com

MMC: unchanged (for me it was 310, I believe it is based on your location)
MNC: unchanged (for me it was 260, I believe it is based on your location)
APN type: Not set
and change the apn to http or https it autotomticly cuts off my data. No matter if its 3g or edge. the icon just goes away. is anyone else having this problem?
sorry to reply without any help or solution, i just wanted to ask if you could add the country that you're referring to when you mention T-Mobile in the thread title.
(T-Mobile US / UK / GER / WHEREEVER)
it just helps people quickly see if the thread is any use to them or not, or if they can help.
thanks, sorry i couldn't help though.

i don't have a g-1 but try APN: epc.tmobile.com with no proxy or port. i also have the t-zones plan and use this on my diamond so i don't have to use a proxy server.

Nope. Same reason a G1 won't work on AT&T 3G. Doesn't work. It sucks, get over it, move on.
It's offtopic now, but 3g does get working on an unlocked iPhone. I know at least it does with Tmobile. The Gevey sim works flawlessly.

I don't see how that would work- at least not on 3G speeds, AT&T and T-Mobile use different 3G bands.
However, I haven't been in the loop lately, maybe it is possible

Edit: I'm also curious about The Jimi Hendrix quote you got wrong in your signature. On purpose?
Ok first off the iphone 3G will work on T-mobile but not at 3G speeds. You will be able to get on the internet but it will only be over EDGE. T-mobile uses 1700mhz and 2100mhz and At&t uses 850mhz for their 3G. The iphone runs off 850mhz for its 3G but also uses 1900mhz for EDGE. Thats why it works on T-mobile.
Back to what OP was asking. You can no longer use t-zones with your G1. T-mobile has blocked that. Thats why you got a message saying you need to upgrade your service. As of right now there is no way around it.
I am on ST using At&t Sim, however I just received my N4 2 days ago and would like to switch to a T-Mobile Sim(which I have from ST). My question is this can I switch in the middle of my monthly plan? I have tried to call them to ask but no luck. I saw am option on their website but don't want to do it of its not the correct procedure. Any one ?

I haven't attempted yet but it sounds like you can access your account from their website and activate the T-Mobile SIM from there, thereby continuing your current service.
I cannot get Straight with T-Mobile to work, can anyone share their working APN settings, I have tried the ST website and it doesnt work.... I've been on hold with them for over 30 minutes... maybe you guys can help me quicker.

I had a similar issue yesterday although it was with an AT&T sim. I tried every single APN setting imaginable and my data still would not work, whereas calls and texts worked perfectly fine. I tried calling customer service but they did not help -- they wanted to troubleshoot my settings but I was using my ST phone to call them so I couldn't. Instead, I opened a support ticket through Facebook (facebook.com/StraightTalkWireless), click Support -- or e-mail them). They responded by saying "Changes have been made to the account, please turn your phone off and on to update." My data magically worked. It took a few hours for them to respond, but if you try a bunch of APN settings and nothing works, try that.
I've finally got data and MMS sending and receiving working on my Nexus 4 on net10. Just wanted to share the APN settings that worked for me to hopefully help someone else out since it took me a bit of time to get working.

If you're on Net10 with an AT&T sim card they say upfront that they throttle you at 1.5gb of data in any given month. I have yet to be throttled, but i'll probably hit 1.5gb this month with about a week left so we'll see what throttling is all about. Not sure if they just slow down the connection or completely cut it off, but I should know soon enough!
Be careful!

I hit some arbitrary limit before they had the 1.5gb cap. I was throttled and it stayed that way for months. I got jerked around by the phone support, email support and even their Facebook page staff for hours trying to get it lifted. It finally took a call to their "executive escalation" call center to resolve. I found that number on Howard Forums. The one that worked for me was 8008765753.

Usually extremely slow, ~4KB/s (kilobytes). Sometimes a little better, like ~10KB/s. Pretty useless.
Just posting some information in case it helps other people who might be searching like me...
The settings here from Net10 (scroll to "AT&T Network settings") result in no data:
http://www.net10wirelessphones.com/FAQ.html
The settings here from Net10 (click on "Phone Programming" and then "IF YOUR CARRIER IS AT&T") allow data, sms, and MMS:
http://net10sim.com/support.php
HOWEVER with these settings I still have intermittent data issues. For example:
Open Chrome, go to google.com = fast
Search for something = fast
Click the first result = hang, data connectivity lost (Chrome times out and says I am offline)
The settings here from xda behave the same as above:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40188181&postcount=49
To be clear: sms, mms, and data "work" with the xda settings but I still have problems with data dropping. So I'm actually using the settings from "net10Sim.com" instead because they behave the same and require less editing.
I've put in a request with Net10 support to get real, valid, official APN settings but who knows if I'll really get anything.
Seeing the same thing on straight talk...
Now straight talk and net10 are sharing the tfdata APN settings... (Some straight people have been migrated to this tfdata, some are still on att.mvno)
Its really hit or miss... and seems to get better at night..
I can do a speed test and get 6 Mb down in Tulsa ok area, then not be able to load a web page.. I can tell when its acting up because the plus sign next to the H cycles.. On At&t and Net10 (At&t simm) for me that did not used to happened until just a week or so ago. Tmobile's + sign would cycle all the time. Now when I am having difficulty with a page loading I see it cycling.. When things are going "good" (fast page loads, consistent speedtest.net tests) + sign doesn't cycle at all.
Its frustrating to say the least..

I got this all the time, it means the phone can't connect to Google services... Usually also means internet is broken or to slow, when it happens to me nothing would load for several second. Switched to AT&T GoPhone and haven't had a single issue with that again.

It's only been the past month or so that it's been doing that, before that it was fine. I've seen on another thread that the apn settings have changed after the roll out of LTE or that I might need a new sim card possibly.

To be honest, mine started doing it in early August (although MMS has never worked) and I gave up after 4 hours on the phone with their tech support telling me it was an issue with my phone and not their problem. Switched to GoPhone and haven't had a single issue since.
Not sure if this is it either, but an AT&T wireless tech (I work in telecom, this is an actual tech that works on switches and tower sites), that the towers give priority to certain customers like AT&T post/pre paid accounts over MVNOs and if the equipment gets busy it will actually block "nonessential" services like data to lower grade APNs. He said they have seen traffic increases much more than expected from MVNOs in the last couple months... Take it for what's worth I guess.

No. This should work out of the box. I was on the phone myself with AT&T and Google for two hours. It's a simple matter of AT&T changing the data plan to LTE, but they won't do it because they do not recognize the IMEI as an AT&T phone. No need to change APN settings. AT&T is basically screwing us. In the coming days I see a LOT of complaints coming. The customer service reps say there is nothing they can do, the network people say there's nothing they can do. Complete nonsense. Now, if you had an LTE data plan PRIOR to switching out phones you're probably going to be OK. It's those of us that were on 3G that will be screwed.
EDIT:
Well, after speaking with endless reps, I found one who was willing to actually do her job. She was sympathetic, did some research, and put in a phony IMEI number that allowed her to upgrade my plan from 3G to LTE. I guess the moral of the story is be persistent, hang up on the reps that say there's nothing they can do and keep trying till you find a rep willing to do their job properly.
By the way, I kept my unlimited status, no worries there.
FUNNY:
I had a call from a sales rep before the issue was fixed. Her solution was "why don't you return your phone, go to an AT&T store, and buy one of ours?"

and yes, i did choose the radio button for it.
they sent in some form to allow ATT to recognize my IMEI which might allow LTE to come in.. i asked about the plan and everything and no one said it wouldnt work... altho i had feared some people might have been told otherwise.

You don't need the PTA APN anymore. Just one named phone.
Here's what I have that works perfectly on LTE:
Name: (whatever you want)
APN: phone
Proxy: not set
Port: not set
Username: not set
Password: not set
Server: not set
MMSC: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
MMS proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Auth Type: not set
APN type: default,supl,mms,hipri
APN protocol: IPv4
APN roaming protocol: IPv4
Bearer: unspecified
MVNO type: none
This worked perfectly out of the box for me. I was reading somewhere that they don't really use the PTA APN anymore because that was when they were first turning on their LTE network and now this "phone" APN auto detects and works normally.

right, the issue is i didnt have an LTE phone prior. I had a 3g GS2 so my plan isnt configured to work on the LTE network.
for the Iphone they were honoring the old unlimited data plans for 30 dollar a month just changing the name of the plan to the new one (same price, still unlimited, upto 5GB before throttle)
someone just did this on the phone for me and i did get data using the phone APN now (no more using the old 3g only APN)
hopefully when i get out of the building i work in i can get some LTE reception and see if it worked.

If you haven't had an LTE phone prior, you probably don't have LTE data enabled through AT&T yet. What data plan are you on specifically? Does it say 4G for Smartphones or LTE for Smartphones? I'm thinking you're going to have to talk to AT&T and get them to switch your plan...

thats what they just did. they had the LTE plan unlimited for 30 a month they grant to grandfathered data plans when the iphone 5 came out
i am getting data on the PHONE apn now but still no LTE speeds...
i will call back later on in the day if i dont see LTE speeds coming in (speed test now only gave me 4 down)
they also apparantly sent in a form to get the IMEI covered by ATT which would guarantee they can provide :LTE speeds
went by att store and the guy there said it happens all the time with devices from south america (im in miami)
went to the back, grabbed an IMEI off a boxes device. applied that to my account... BAM ... LTE
I had the same problem with a rep telling me that the phone can't be found in their system. From the research I've done, it looks like you can give them any IMEI number off of a AT&T branded LTE phone and their system will switch your plan over.
Here's a good thread about it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2021401
NEXUS 4 APN Settings
Has anyone seen APN settings like theses and can you explain why they work?
Name: Straight Talk
APN: wap.tracfone
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.32
MMS Port: 80
I live in Columbus,Ga using a T-Mobile sim on straight talk and tried everything I could find even ST customer service and nothing worked well. Then 1 night on straight talk CS chat the rep gave me this and now I get HSPA+ and 4G all over the area. What I don’t understand is the APN: wap.tracfone and the MMSC with cingular in it. All of the other APN’s I found at XDA, the net or straight talk never used those two items. Also I am using a hybrid radio flash but have been using various combinations of APN’s and radios since I got the phone and the APN is what made the difference.
I'm in Tmobile classic plan and my data has been slow the past week or so, not sure why. I am gonna try this APN just to see what happens, it is working, but I'll see how fast it is.

if it's cingular, then you probably actually have or they converted you to, AT&T

Thanks, that explains the cingular and Straight Talk does have, or had ATT, sims I have a T-mobile sim. I still don't see how an ATT APN works with a T-Mobile sim.
MMSC = multimedia messaging service center. Data does not use this unless it is MMS related. How is your MMS working? The other fields could be standard and you would actually be going thru T-Mobile for data.

My data is fine now, where before I was getting no data Again with this new APN I am getting data coverage in my area where until I changed to this APN I could not get coverage. I even asked at the local T-Moile store about coverage and they said that in my specific area coverage for data is not good but w/this change I am a happy customer.
was working. may be my fault i try again

Any status report on whether this new APN configuration improved T-Mobile classic plans Data speed?
