maybe we can run metro app in low resolution? - Windows 8 General

first, sorry for my bad English
I found two url
http://touch.whatsontv.co.uk/video/...ideo/dzRGcA7wi-4&feature=youtube_gdata_player
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGayRH3WPwQ
it can run metro ui app in 1024x600 display!
and they used monitor setting 'external display'
then i guess 'maybe external display show single monitor, metro ui app run able?'
after i research how to setup external crack in single monitor, but im not found it
anyone know How setting external display in single display mode?

I think that was kinda obvious from the start. Limits like that are stupid.

I have a tablet that runs at 1024x600 and win8 Build metro works just fine on it.

There's a good post in the developer and hacking forum about changing the resolution.

(Q) DPI settings throwing apps scalling out

Recently changed my dpi to 200 and unticked compatability in spare tools. Question is the apps that dont automatically scale is there a way to manually make them fit the screen? Cant live without my full screen papertoss but dont want to go back to the ugly large 240 dpi
I'd bump this because I can't find the answer anywhere, maybe my search terms suck.
I noticed the same annoying thing.
BUMP, for an answer...

Im confused ... I use 200 DPI and all my apps do rescale perfectly full screen after spare parts compatibility un-check and a reboot. Even paper toss... Only thing i noticed with papertoss was that I had to uninstall it and download it again from the market...

Some apps are simply developed with 240 dpi in mind. Typically, it appears that they use Android APIs to draw bitmaps unscaled. Even though the Spare Parts setting allows them to "see" the higher logical resolution, the bitmaps are not scaled correctly.
Most of these apps can still be used (or played). There's not much to do except making the app developers aware of this problem.
Here are some apps with issues:
- Abduction
- GOTO lock screen
- Hyperactive Ninja
- Hello Kids
- Tower Bloxx
- Mini Shot Basketball

[BOUNTY] DPI Spoofing tool for individual Tablet & Phone Apps

I created a bounty thread for this tool in the i717 Galaxy Note General forums but wanted to make it know to the n7000 users too as it should work on all Galaxy Note models (And hopefully many other phones).
The Goal: A tool to spoof DPI at a per-app level to enable use of both Tablet and Phone apps without changing the default system DPI
Please keeping pledging in the original thread...

Thanks
Why would you want to use an app not designed for a certain dpi to work in a crippled way ??
It would be much wiser to find a way to change the dpi 'on the fly' as you can do in windows for example. Maybe Google will make it possible one day, as we can already run apps in 'window mode' in ICS

You're looking at it the wrong way around.
Telling apps like Gmail, YouTube and tablet specific Apps you have a Tablet DPI enables UI layouts specifically designed for tablet viewing, they are not crippled, they are enhanced.
The Note's display resolution makes it a perfectly capable mini tablet that can run UI layouts designed for tablets. Samsung insist the Note is a phone and have gimped the system by removing tablet support despite the device having a 1280x800 screen.
Some may prefer using tablet mode, others may say it's too small, this tool is for the former rather than the latter.
I have attached pics of the awesome tablet views of Gmail, Youtube and BeyondPod running on my Note.
yes but it makes no sense to run them in tablet ui if you are set on a dpi of 320 even in 1280x800...

In Android DPI is an arbritrary measurement, dont get it mixed up with PPI, all you have to do is tell the App you are at 200 DPI and it will display that way
If that were true, then there would be no need to reboot when changing dpi, it could be done on application level which is, as far as i know, not possible.
However I could be mistaking, i will catch up on it....
As I see it now you would just only get your Gmail in tablet UI, displaying only half of it's content because the rest will fall beside the screen.
I think its a great idea +1
Gmail tablet UI is awesome.

Don't get me wrong, i think it is a great idea as well.
But i doubt it is actually possible in the current android architecture
I don't care about UI differences. I want the stupid apps to install from the market.
So, far, they all look the same even when they're "incompatible". Typical lame crap.
It is done in the Asus Padfone, so it can't be impossible.
And how do you cope when the apps try scaling to the different LCD Density and half of the display is off the side of the screen, or things are bunched up in the corner of the display?
Wow, this is extremely needed thing! I realy like Tablet Mode on my Note, but can't use it because of many FCs. Sometimes I prefer Tablet Mode (Opera Mobile, Apex Launcher, File managers, Aquamail, Youtube official app and others), and sometimes standart "Phone" mode (Phone apps, S Memo, some small script apps, some games and others). Don't listen to those fools who say that this program is not needed.
This is exactly what I'm longing to see but I don't think it's possible for now as it's rather an OS related issue then just a software issue. I belive Asus padfone works only in low tablet dpi too. Apps only open in tablet mode . You can't change resolution on the fly

The problem is not changing the resolution on the fly,
but changing the dpi on the fly, keeping the same resolution
Totaly agree. I'd love to use those apps in tablet mode with spoofed DPI:
- Poeple
- Calendar
- Mail
- Music
- Calculator
- Settings
But the rest ? I really prefer phone UI for messaging, lockscreen, homescreen and the keyboard cause tablet keyboard is a nightmare to use.
There are some mods to force Settings.apk to work in tablet mode while in phone ui - but that's just wrong cause everything is ugly-huge and not readable. Would be great to force those apps to work AND display like in 180-200dpi while the phone ( and the rest ) works in 320dpi.
But is that even possible ?
That's it!
That is exactly waht I want for the Note!

Atrix Screen Color profile

Hello,
I`m new on this device and just make a color profile that seems to be acceptable.
It`s not perfect but usefull to simulate in photoshop how an image will looks like on the Atrix. It`s good for themers.
Just download attached file and put the .icc file in windows\system32\spool\drivers\color. Then in photoshop : CTRL-Y, go to menu display/image format and choose the profile. Also tick Keep RVB numbers.
As you can see in the attached picture, atrix screen is not able to reproduce all the sRGB color space, (very) bad screen ...
Note that if your monitor is not correctly calibrated this will not be useful.
Enjoy.
That's a very spikey gamut. I just made my own using a Huey and Argyll on Linux. I ran an X server on my Atrix and had the 'dispread' program display on it. My result is much more like sRGB, just transposed a little in the green direction.
I've attached the profile I made and screen shots of 'iccexamin' displaying the gamut of your profile and mine.

Thanks for that, I didn`t know about this linux soft and will try later.
What sensor are you using (mind is spyder3) ? Did you run a calibrate or profile only process ?
My first impressiom is that my profile shows me a better result in photoshop. I will test it with other images.
Calibration subject is a headache subject ...
A new and better profile attached.
@IanTester, I think you have a problem in your calibration process.
an other one. seems slightly better ...
What exactly do you mean by "calibration"? The documentation for Argyll says that calibration of a display means "1) Changing controls or internal settings that it has. 2) Applying curves to its color channels."
I've made a second profile using the same data as before but using a different "algorithm" argument with colprof. The previous profile used '-as', which generated a "shaper + matrix", this one used "-aX" to generate "XYZ cLUT + matrix".
I understand the basics of colour management but don't really know much about generating profiles. The dry and error-prone documentation for Argyll doesn't help much. Basically I have a shell script that I run to profile my monitor and it seems to work with the few colour-managed programs I have. Any help would be welcome.

Hello,
I just installed dispcalGUI on my Fedora partition. It seems to be a good calibration soft, easier to use than argyll ...
Then I tried to configure a remote desktop via VNC but it`s too slow. The image generated on linux arrives to late on the android screen ...
So I need your help too. What apps are you using to have a copy of your linux desktop on your phone ?
There are usually two modes when using a colorimeter : calibration & caracterization. Wee need the second one as it is just to use the profile to simulate the atrix screen. Calibration is to be loaded into the graphic card and correct as well as possible the screen colors. I don`t know any app able to load a color profile in android system, unfortunately.
Is it more clear ? Sorry for english ...
Can any one tell me of Software for windows that would allow me to output my screen via HDMI? I have the hardware but no available Linux terminal to run it.

There's no way to apply a color profile system wide in Android?
There kinda is. If you're on CM, you can go to Settings > CyanogenMod settings > Interface > Render effect. There you'll find a predefined set of somethings that can loosely be called color profiles.
Oh yeah I almost forgot about that one.

Nexus 7 + Pocketcloud/RDP

Have you tried using Pocketcloud/another RDP app on the Nexus 7? I'm looking for a new tablet to replace an ipad 2 that I use heavily to remote back to my VPS while I'm out of the office. I'm concerned the Nexus 7's 16:9 ratio makes it difficult to remotely control a Win7 desktop. The ipad2's 4:3 ratio is not bad while using Pocketcloud; even with the soft keyboard up in landscape orientation, I still have enough vertical space to be able to access menus, buttons and programs on the VPS. Using it in portrait format is a bit better (in that the "clipped" screen space is almost 1:1) but doesnt give me much lateral space to work with.
I understand the Nexus 7 runs on a higher resolution (1280x800) so even the landscape format should have more "vertical space" than the iPad, but just wondering how y'all feel about this. Whats your mobile VPS platform of choice?
I use an app called "2X client" to regulary RDP to my Windows boxes.
No real issues here. Of course it's not comparable with using a remote client on a PC, but IMO really OK.

tks hellcatdroid, i've tried 2x client too. you dont find the screen size too small for controlling menus, screens etc?

The virtual mouse works pretty well for me, if things do get too tight i use the pinchzoom.
Not sure about office machines, but...
I use Splashtop for connecting to my machines at home. The need for connecting to my work machine hasn't arisen yet, so I cannot vouch for that case.
Honestly, the 1280x800 resolution is perfect for the Nexus 7 in this case. Both our home media server and my programming box run at that resolution, making it feel slightly small, but still big enough to be functional. I can imagine that things will feel "smashed" if the machine you are connecting to is set at a higher res.
Have not tried using a mouse or keyboard over the connection yet, only their touch-based controls. Their interface does have a slightly noticeable lag, which can be confusing when typing/programming remotely.
Food for thought.
Side Note: I also own and use Splashtop on the iPad (1st gen). Using it on the Nexus 7 feels far more natural, less forced.

I need a fix for this please

when I connect my laptop to my TV through HDMI for the 1st time it automatically connects to a certain resolution. and that's fine because then I can select a different resolution if I don't like it. for example if my laptop connects automatically to [email protected] which is my TV maximum resolution then I can change it to... let's say [email protected] which is lower quality but is waaaay smoother 60 Hz is smoother than 24Hz.
ok, my question is... how can I change the output resolution of Note3's. I haven't seen a menu yet allowing you to do that. I'd rather have [email protected] or even [email protected] instead of [email protected] which is so laggy. and don't tell me the Note3 can't connect to a different resolution than 1080p because it obviously can. I've connected it to another tv and on that one it connects at [email protected] and also I can't change the resolution to that one.
is there a workaround that you can do to allow selecting other resolution than the default one?
.....
and it's funny because both Note 1 and 2 connect on my TV automatically at [email protected] and as a consequence they show no lagginess while my Note3 which was supposed to be an upgrade is in this case a downgrade...

!!WARNING!! Not my fault if you need to reflash. You're doing this on your OWN ACCORD!
Use a third-party launcher as TouchWizHome likes to crash. Open terminal if it's rooted (will only be able to change resolution with root) and use these commands:
NOTE: Do not use quotation marks when typing in terminal.
Resolution: Type "su", grant root, type "wm size 1080x1920" if you want 1080p, or 720x1280 if you want 720p
4.3 and 4.4 use "wm". Earlier versions of android use "am". Tablets are reversed and should need "1920x1080" as opposed to phones which needs "1080x1920".
PROTIP!!! This may mess with your Note 3 and you might have to reflash. Samsungs framework is NOT dynamic like Googles framework is. This might result in corrupted apps. If you want to change DPI without an app (AppSettings with Xposed works fine and lets you do it to individual apps) just change "size" for "density" and "1080x1920" for "480". 480 is default, so lower it to see how small you want things to be. 360 is the sweet spot for me.
ok... any other idea? I don't want to change the resolution of the launcher but the resolution of the output. I presume that method might change both and also requires root. I don't want to root it. any other suggestions?
