My MyTouch 4G has been working with 4G since I got it (November 2010). Now, 4G will not turn on. It just stays at turning on. After a little bit, the 4G icon (I'm on 2.3.4) will appear in my notification near my signal bars, as usual. But my 3G WatchDog isn't active, so my 4G isn't really on. I've rebooted, pulled the battery, but I really don't want to factory reset....If anyone can help, it would be really appreciated! Thank you!
EDIT: Please someone help, I really need my mobile network for things!
Don't count on 3G Watchdog to tell you the status of your system.
Check your mobile network status in Settings/About.
Check that you have correct APN in Settings/Wireless/Mobile.
Turn off and on mobile data.
Check your connection data, ping your DNS servers or Google DNS (8.8.8.8), ping www.google.com and see if it translates to IP.
If nothing helps or you don't know how to do stuff - back everything up and factory reset the thing.
If you're not rooted - temp-root and back the apps up, and then factory reset.
And the best thing might be to wait - there might just be cellular data problems in your area.

Hey. I have an HTC Magic (32A) from Rogers. I followed the guide on the CM wiki for rooting my phone and installing CM 6.1.0. The installation and such went without a hitch; it's working fine, except my data connection no longer works. WiFi works perfectly fine, though. It's just a shame because I'm now paying for a data plan that I can't use.
I read around here that it's usually an issue with the APN info, but I triple-checked it and it seems all fine and dandy. The "Data connection" option is also checked, as it should be.
The only thing I can think of at this point is the ridiculous 911 debacle, but the Rogers waiver form for reactivating data says my IMEI is invalid -- this seems like a very common issue, but I'm a bit weary of calling tech support since I have a rooted phone.
If it's even possible at this point, I wouldn't mind even reverting back to my stock 2.1 state, except I didn't make any backups with nandroid first. Any help would be appreciated. Here's my version stuff:

Have you tried popping your sim card into another 3G capable phone, and see if it can manage any 3G traffic?
If so, then it is not a provider / data enable issue, but rather a phone issue.
If you installed CM, then your APN should have been set automatically (CM comes with a big list). If you messed with the APN and saved it, you might wanna check it a 4th time
Have you tried the 2g/3g toggle button in the power widget that comes with CM?
Have you tried the settings of the power widget that comes with CM, where you can configure the toggle options for 2g/3g?
Do you even have normal "g" (GPRS)?
Do you live in a concrete underground bunker? Have you got good enough signal for data traffic?
Data service enable from your network provider is usually to the SIM, and not to the phone (where you IMEI resides).
I think if they block the phone based on IMEI (or don't recognize your IMEI), then you will have no connectivity (both data and voice/txt).
Thanks for the reply!
I tried putting the SIM card into another phone just now (a Nexus One, unrooted, stock ROM), and it's the same thing: voice/text works but no data.
I've had no luck with the APN list from CM. I tried another list I found on the internet somewhere but that didn't work either. I've since reset it back to the CM default.
Tried the 2G/3G toggling, didn't work.
I've never even seen the data icon that shows 3G or regular G. Is there a better way to check if I have a GPRS connection?
I've tried it at multiple altitudes. Right now I'm sitting in an office and I've got all four bars on my signal.
My uncle happens to work for Rogers; I asked him about it and he said he'll send me a list of instructions on what to do, in case the problem is indeed on Rogers' end. If it works then I'll post it here for y'all.
I've read the other posts about this.. But they didnt mention anything of my issue.
I'm having a hard time keeping bars up... Bad service in my area for Tmobile...
I have a tmobile prepaid card in currently. it is active. I also have a Blackberry fully unlimited sim. Neither have worked..
The phone is a tmobile mytouch 3g. i have no idea what OS is on it. can't get past the Google login screen
The "Four corner touch" rumour isn't working.
changing APN settings hasnt worked.
Even if I manage to keep 2-3 bars, and the little Edge logo up, it says my connection is unreliable... or says I don't have a network connection.
Tomorrow I am going to drive into town to get full bars and full edge/3g with my blackberry simcard if I can't figure something out tonight.
Sorry if I'm forgetting any details. I'm very tired!
Please help if you can =/ I know nothing about Androids.. I'm an iPhone/blackberry girl.

I've been having the same issues with my myTouch 4G, wonder if there's a network issue. Any rate, don't see anything obviously wrong unless there is actually something up with the tower your feeding off of. Did you take the drive to test?
Totally forgot, because I ended up returning the phone the next day as it was giving me issues. [freezing up]
I did drive in to town, and was able to log in, and update & enable wifi.
if you're running off of edge/3g only when first setting up your phone, it looks like you need a 100% signal. the two data arrows need to be lit up fully, I noticed if they blink, my log in always fails.
Switched to Mytouch 3g Slide, works like a charm.
Hi, since I got this phone and I've been having problem with the data connection, wifi is working fine, but 3G is not, it shows the 3G symbol but keep switching to H symbol and back again to 3G constantly, i never been able to surf the web or do anything online on 3g connection since i got it.
I tried putting in the setting from my provider and got the samsung network app thingy but nothing helped, even after updating to NoDo.
This is really bothering me i cant enjoy the phone when im outdoors, i switched back to my iPhone 3gs temporarily.
I really hope this can be solved.
I'm thinking if there is some way to make the phone only works on 3G and turn the H off.

H is for HSDPA and is far more faster than 3G. I reckon you run ADC on startup using samsung tools and hopefully the problems with connection will be resolved. Alternatively contact your sim provider for network configurations.
Here it also switches between H and 3G, or well it did on my other wp7 phone my (european) omnia uses 3g+. That's normal; the H mode probably eats your battery alive, and it only switches to it when your data connection is active (i.e. data is being transferred)
Your problem appears to be an Access Point problem, you can configure one yourself at the mobile connection settings page. (bottom). Check the web for the settings you'll need.
You see most phones are configured automatically by their providers, but the omnia probably isn't supported.
Hope this helps
the APN for China Unicon is "3gnet"
just add it your 3g connection will work.
Hello all,
I have resorted to posting here as i have trawled the web for a solution without any luck. Here is my problem hope you can help.
I have a nexus 4 and am currently in Spain. After traveling abroad and not using data roaming i came back to Spain to no mobile data connection. The usual tricks of restarting, toggling mobile data airplane mode didn't work. It was quite frustrating. I went as far as to cancel my contract and go for a prepaid card - Lebara as they have a decent data tariff - but the problem persisted. I have configured the APN, gone through all the restart procedures, even factory reset the phone twice and nothing helped.
Mobile data is switched on. I have the APN set up as needed. However, the H E H+ never appear next to the bars on top no matter what i do. I have ordered another SIM card from a different operator in desperation but it might not be here for another week.
I really hope it is not the phone but now I really don't know. I am taking suggestions...
Thanks
PS one thing I just noticed is that if I download apps from my browser the device is listed as vodafone nexus 4 although I have never been on vodafone. This might have some relevance

Go to the dialer, press*#*#4636#*#* this brings you into new menu. go to the phone information to see to what network you are connected. if you scroll down you can force the phone to use 3g (WCDMA only) see if this work. this seting will change when the phone goes into reboot.
also if you happen to have the "3g bug" connecting to a wlan might help as stated by some users.
For me starting the hot spot function does the trick.

Thanks for the advice endet. I have done this but to no avail. When I switch to WCDMA only in the field GPRS service it says connecting for about a minute and then disconnected. After restart it is directly disconnected. I have toggled between GSM only and WCDMA only and restarted the radio. Played with the other settings in this screen and nothing. Only once did I get brief flash of the H on top but trying to replicate the steps didn't lead to anything.
Starting tethering didn't help either...
Could be something with my IMEI? Or CellInfoListRate?
Hi all
The past 2 days I seem to be having an issue with intermittent 4G coverage...
It will connect to 4G but have a small X next to it in the top menu. I receive no internet however.
What does the X mean as I can't find the answer anywhere, and is it an issue with my phone or my service provider?
I am on EE UK and running 7.1.1 Beta NPF10C
I have restarted, turned on and off airplane mode, reset my APN to no avail.
Anything else you need to need to know I will provide
Thanks in advance
I have had the same problems occasionally & I think it's an EE fault. It basically means you have a 4G connection but no internet access. Toggling mobile data off, waiting a minute or two, and re-enabling seems to get a new connection.
