The only real upgrade point in my mind is the arm 11 processor. Would make a big difference in capabilities.

Seems a shame it's not 1ghz though

I think you're getting mixed up. ARM11 = ARMv6 Cortex A8 = ARMv7, No difference all smartphones nowadays use ARMv7. But ARMv6 is commonly used in budget droids

yes, i would have thought it was a better upgrade.
but i think this phone is for people who dont have the original and want a phone thats cheap with decent specs.
kind of like the htc desire s compared to the old desire

Had a quick look and ppl want a lot more for the S and the Desire ...almost twice the price. So the Crescent is by far the best option at the price.

I suppose, but its very similiar to the desire to desire s upgrade;
They beefed up the CPU slightly, added a front camera, and made the design nicer

the blade is a great phone, but the battery is appalling .... Hope they fix that in the new version.

minimal changes, even I will not buy ... leave ZTE Blade

Going from G2 to Xperia Mini Pro

I have had the G2 for well over a year now and recently felt the need for a change. In my opinion the G2 is one of the best physical keyboard phones of its day; the next phone had some big shoes to fill.
Physical keyboard either slide or candy bar style
GSM based
Hspa speeds
Android 2.3 or later
Decent battery life
Not too big
Faster processor than the G2
After searching diligently for the right fit it came down to these two phones:
Motorola pro plus - candy bar style
Larger body
Bigger battery
1Ghz processor
HSPA
Xperia mini pro - slider style
Compact design
Front facing camera
1Ghz processor
HSPA
The reviews for the Motorola Pro plus on youtube were pretty good but not overwhelmingly so.
The Xperia mini pro had a bit more reviews and seemed to hold up well for different types of users.
So i ordered the Xperia mini pro and can say that i am not disappointed. The size and speed of this phone are what set it apart in the physical qwerty domain. The user interface that Sony has layed on top on Android is quite impressive and very intuitive. If your thinking of getting a new qwerty do not hesitate with this one.

DON'T
This is what a downgrade is.
If you want a change and a physical keyboard, at least buy a Motorola Droid 4.
To exchange Z with any other phone is just unnecessary.

Just root and overclock your Vison and done.
Vision's screen is much bigger, the phone is less thick, higher resolution, much more internal storage and so one.....
I don't understand why you didn't just get the xperia pro, which has the same specs, except it has a bigger and higher res screen. Anyway, if he's happy with what he has now, then let him be happy, it was his choice to get a different phone and whether it was an upgrade or not is irrelevant since he's happy with it.
I also see it as a downgrade rather then a move across sideways. The Xperia mini pro replaced the Xperia x10 mini which was very much regarded as a mid range phone. The Desire Z however during its release was regarded as a high end phone and the extra features show that i.e higher resolution screen, Gorilla glass, faster hspda speeds & better battery.
However I can understand why you wanted to update to a newer handset and keep with a physical Qwerty, after all they're becoming instinct :'(
Update almost two weeks using the Xperia mini pro.
So far it has been a really good experience and i have just upgrade to ICS. Battery life has been about average but bought two other Sony batteries for like 20 bucks shipped on amazon. Photos look really good on the phone with outdoor shots captured having amazing vividness. Keyboard is even better than at first, getting used to the layout. See photo below. Keep in mind i could have gone with the samsung captivate glide but really wanted something that fit easily in the hand and was not too bulky... This delivers.

Xperia SL
Got my SL couple of days ago. I had Galaxy SII earlier. Although, SII is a beast but this isn't a bad deal at all. Great phone, Superb Excellent display.... It rocks....
Couple of things which I didnt like are :
1. The buttons are not responsive. Sometimes you have to click 2 - 3 times to get it work. But I got a trick that instead of pressing the button, just swipe it downwards and it works like a charm.
2. The usb connector is on left side which is sometimes very awkward. Should have been at botton like GSII.
Rest all is cool....
It is still a sexy A$$ phone! I saw this phone a month ago & I still like/want it.

CM10 run perfect and the hdmi out is good?
This device is still using the Qualcomm S3, which is a cpu from carrier locked SII, its hopelessly underpowered regardless of clockspeed. It'll have trouble with newest 3D games and some HD movies. The Galaxy Nexus OMAP and SII Exynos 1.2Ghz are faster. And this thing is still running ICS which is not acceptable being released today.
One thing Sony need to do for people to buy their phone is keep up with the hardware and software technology.

Yea, it seems to be a Sony Mobile trend to release outdated stuff. I guess they rely too much on their "Sony" reputation, and not enough on actual quality. Shame, they could do so much better.

I guarantee you it's more like .8MP. I've seen China phones that were 12MP but in reality were 1.2 at best.
And if you've ever used a decent smart phone, let alone an S3 you would definately notice the difference. The knock-offs are horrible to use.

If it turns out to be a real phone, then it will be amazing. If If it just ends up being a rumor then that isn't too bad. The LG Nexus is supposed to have similar specs (1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro, 2 GB RAM, 4.7 instead of 5 inch HD display, etc.). The best part is that the 8 GB LG Optimus Nexus model will retail for 299$ and the 16 GB version will retail for 349$.
